TRUSSVILLE – The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club has announced a scholarship award for a recipient from Restoration Academy (RA).

Kayla Patterson is a senior at RA. She is a visual artist and a member of the tennis team. She plans to attend UAB this fall to become an art therapist, using her gift as an artist to help others.

The Rotary Club is pleased to present Kayla with a $1,000 scholarship to help further her education. Kayla and her mother were on-hand at a recent Rotary meeting for the presentation.

Proceeds from rotary fundraising events, including the coordination of a golf tournament for more than 25 years, go toward the club’s many projects. Those projects include leadership opportunities for local high school students, Dr. Seuss books for local elementary students, ribbons at City Hall in recognition of Veterans’ Day, lunch for campers and staff at Smile-a-Mile, trees planted at Civitan Park, and more.

The Club has recently funded the new clock tower in downtown Trussville, benches at the walking track at Cahaba Elementary, and playground equipment at the Mall in historic Trussville.

The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club meets at First Baptist Church Trussville on Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. For more information on the Club, or to help with one of our projects, please ‘like’ us on Facebook (Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club) or email Diane Poole at dianepoole1225@centurytel. net.

Trussville To Go announces winners of 2021 T2GO Scholarship

From The Tribune staff reports

TRUSSVILLE — The winners of the 2021 T2GO Scholarship were announced after an essay contest by Trussville To Go.

Abby Weems, of Hewitt-Trussville High School won the $2,500 scholarship.

Trussville To Go is a local restaurant delivery company servicing the greater Trussville area. The T2GO scholarship was formed by Ben & Amanda Short as a way of giving back to the communities that have supported T2GO’s mission of delivering local meals.

“We are excited to give back to the community in the form of this scholarship and want to thank our restaurant partners for trusting us with their food delivery needs,” said Ben Short. “Without our partners and this supportive community, we wouldn’t be able to give back in this way, so I want to express our thanks for everyone that played a role in making this a reality. I also want to congratulate Abby on a very well-written essay and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors.”

In the scholarships’ first year there was a two-way tie and Isabella Weyerman (Hewitt Trussville) & Marques McKinney (Clay Chalkville) each won a T2GO scholarship.

Interested in applying for next year’s T2GO scholarship? Mark your calendar for August 15th, 2021, as Trussville To Go will announce next year’s essay topic online at www.t2goscholarships.com and via the Trussville Tribune.

Local GEICO representative gives back to educators

From The Tribune staff reports

BIRMINGHAM — Greg Armstrong is giving back this week.

Representing the local GEICO office on Chalkville Mountain Rd., Armstrong is buying lunch and giving out hundreds of reusable grocery bags to the entire staff of three local schools. The ‘thank you’ gesture was made in response to the challenges those educators and staff members faced this year in the midst of a pandemic.

All three principals are sending out a heartfelt message of gratitude from Armstrong to every teacher. That message can be seen below.

My mother retired as a teacher/educator in middle Georgia, and throughout my life I saw how mentally taxing the role can be. You not only have the responsibility of our children’s education,

but also their safety. And you own a great piece of who they are/become as people. Your influence is greater than many will ever know. And throw a pandemic on top of everything else, and how you’ve reacted to it amazes me.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for everything that you do!!!

Please take as many of the reusable grocery bags that you think you’ll use, and I hope you’re able to enjoy your summer.
