TRUSSVILLE —A Pinson man is facing a charge after police say he pointed a gun during a road rage incident. The charge stems from an incident on March 8. Trussville Police say they responded to a call in the 1600 block of Gadsden Highway.
BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham confirmed that 14 tornadoes hit Alabama on Thursday, March 14. There were two supercells that are believed to have produced four or more of these tornadoes. No deaths or injuries were reported. Emergency management officials credit that to early warning systems. Here is a list of tornadoes according to the NWS: An EF-1 twister with a 7.1 miles path hit Autauga County, just 10 miles north of Autaugaville, at 8:44 p.m. The path of the tornado started at Dawson Mill. It ended 10 minutes later at Vida Junction. A few homes had minor damage and several trees were uprooted or snapped off. An EF-2 hit Kim’s Corner in Elmore County at 9:32 p.m. It started in Holtville and traveled 8.5 miles. With 120 mph winds, the storm downed hundreds of trees, downed power lines and damaged many homes. Some of the homes lost their roofs and/or had collapsed walls. One car was moved over 30 yards. storm was observed crossing Lay Lake and spanning into a forested area northeast of Little Tom Road. This tornado is believed to have cycled and produced three additional EF-0 tornadoes. One of the EF-0’s produced from the Lay Lake Tornado was a tornado off County Road 56 in Coosa County. From 8:21 p.m. - 8:23 p.m., the twister snapped and uprooted trees. Trees were uprooted, and one family’s porch was damaged. An EF-1 in St. Clair County caused significant damage along its 4.71 miles path. Around 5:54 p.m., the twister touched down just west of St. Clair Springs Road, just west of Hwy. 411. 90 mph winds from the storm are being blamed on damage to chicken houses, damage to hundreds of trees, roof damage to homes and outbuildings and blocked roadways due to downed trees. An EF-1 hit the Allgood community in Blount County at 5:07 p.m. with 90 mph winds. It traveled 4.57 miles and was approximately 600 yards wide. Trussville PD and Fire earn badges for Honor Guard Academy By Erica Thomas Editor
TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Fire Department and the Trussville Police Department have come together and completed Honor Guard Academy provided by a renowned trainer. The training for ceremonial units provides first responders with a solid foundation in colors presentations based on the American military standard. John K. Marshall, “The DrillMaster,” has trained numerous groups across the nation to help men and women adopt a uniform technique for ceremonies including funerals, parades, flag raisings, and other events. He said graduates are now equipped to serve with other first responders across the country. “They’ve earned the basic certification. In two years they could invite me back out, spend three days in training, earn the next level patch and then ultimately, four years from
now, be master ceremonial guardsmen,” Marshall said. During a mock-funeral, graduates showed spec-
tators how pallbearers work together to move a flag-draped casket from
a church to a burial site. Mayor Buddy Choat was there and sat with Fire Chief Tim Shotts and Police Chief Eric Rush as
mock family members. The color guard and the firing party were incorporated
throughout the memorial. Just before the American flag was folded and presented to a mock family member, the firing squad went through the motions of the three volleys salute, which consisted of each member of the party raising their weapon and firing shots three times in unison. Marshall typically trains police and fire departments separately, but Trussville is unique in that the departments are working together on this training. This is the first honor guard unit for the city. They completed six weeks of training in just 40 hours. They are now certified United States ceremonial guardsman and they will eventually be able to train other units if they choose to do so. Chief Rush said he was impressed by the group and their hard work training for the certification. Marshall is the author of “The Honor Guard Manual” and other departments that would like to contact him can go to his website, www.thedrillmaster.org.
