Wisconsin State Fire Fighters Memorial
On April 16, 1996, then Governor Tommy Thompson signed into law, legislation designating Wisconsin Rapids as the site of the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial. Governor Thompson said “The State Firefighters Memorial is a tremendous project that will make sure we never forget the courage, bravery and dedication of our firefighters. Wisconsin Rapids is an ideal location for this memorial because of its central location in the state.”
The Wisconsin State Fire Fighters Memorial is located in Ben Hansen Park on the southwest side of Wisconsin Rapids along the west side of the Wisconsin River. You can find the park on State Highway 54/73 in Wisconsin Rapids.
At the Memorial Park you’ll find a Memorial Wall of Honor and Memorial Bell Tower that serve to remind us of the sacrifices made by our fellow Firefighters. Legacy Stones also provide us with a reminder of these sacrifices as you walk through the park. The Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial wall is made up of six black marble plates containing the manes of firefighters from Wisconsin who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Powers Bluff County Park is our most popular winter recreation area. Conveniently located between Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids in the town of Arpin, Powers Bluff is the place to be for downhill skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, cross country skiing, fat tire biking, and snowshoeing. Tubes are provided with your tow ticket. Concessions are available in our heated shelter. Wood County also has groomed multi-use trails at Richfield 360 County Forest and Nepco Lake County Park. If touring the countryside on a snowmobile appeals to you, Wood County has over 250 miles of beautiful, scenic trails. These trails are maintained by 9 local snowmobile clubs.
Ice fishing in Wood County is also very popular. Wood County Parks and Forestry maintains parking areas for those venturing out on the ice at our Nepco, Dexter, and South Wood County Parks. Each of these areas have restrooms open year-round.
