Styled Seasonal Fruit Incorporating fruit into floral arrangements is an unexpected way to bring a fresh look to your celebration, and it’s actually a time-tested look. During the mid 1500s, Dutch painters were capturing the entanglement of fruit, flowers, seashells with other found oddities. Seems like a worthy source of inspiration.

Dried Blooms We’ll be seeing a whole lot of dried flowers in 2020. “The use of dried flowers, grasses, and branches creates more texture in the arrangements and adds a sculptural component,” experts say. Another perk of dried flowers is there’s no need to worry about wilting on hot summer days.

The Dress Statement Sleeves Expect to see blouse-

sleeved gowns prominently displayed in many of the chicest bridal boutiques. It’s a bit of a throwback, but feels light and is easy to wear. “It’s bold and has a fashion edge to it, but it feels soft and quite bridal,” says designer Mare Sheffel.

Bridesmaid Dresses Uniform Frocks What goes around comes around. After a couple of years of mixing and matching fabrics, textures, and colors, we’re seeing a trend back toward one style for the wedding party. Universally

flattering, clean-lined silhouettes with v-necklines are the cut of choice.

Neutral Palettes You may have heard that wearing black or white to a wedding is a no-no, but you can expect to see plenty of ivory, black, and neutral-hued bridesmaid gowns at 2020 celebrations. One reason is that these hues truly allow vibrant floral bouquets to stand out.

Velvet Fabrics We’ve seen velvet take over furniture, linens, and the runway, and it looks like the trend is here to stay. “Velvet has made quite the statement this year, and we couldn’t be happier.” The dress expert also says that, since it photographs beautifully, velvet makes a great choice.

Makeup - Bronzed, Shimmering Lids The days of smokey eyes are over. “Brides want to look bright-eyed,” the makeup

artists say. “Bronze, champagne, or nude shimmery lids are the best way to make every bride’s eyes sparkle.” To take the look a step further, experts suggest applying a flesh-toned eyeliner to your waterline, too.

Planning The Perfect Beach Wedding

O

ur beaches offer a dramatic and romantic setting for your special day, allowing you to share your vows against the backdrop of breaking waves and Atlantic waters on the horizon. New jersey offers a few beach settings, and you can marry along the shoreline even if you aren't a New Jersey resident. While arranging a beach wedding isn’t overwhelming, it's best to handle these tasks far in advance to give you the best chance of securing your preferred site. Some towns, such as Cape May, allow you to hold your beach wedding without a permit, while

others, such as Atlantic City, require you to purchase a permit.

Prep Your Guests Make sure your guests know that the wedding is actually on the sand, so they can dress appropriately. This can be communicated with the invitation (included with the map/directions), on your wedding website and through word-of-mouth.

Feet: Some beachy couples are providing a “shoe valet” where guests can trade out their Ferragamo pumps for casual flip-flops.

Another nice touch is to have a de-sanding station—soft bristled paint brushes are a fun

way to wipe the sand from between your toes!

Eyes: Sunny days at the beach can be blinding, so make sure everyone knows to bring sunglasses, hats, or parasols—you don’t want them squinting at you the entire time!

Weather: Remind your guests to bring appropriate wraps, in case it gets chilly. It’s not a bad plan to have sweaters, shawls, sweatshirts or even blankets on hand, should Cousin Ann show up without her pashmina.

Alternatively, if it’s a high-noon ceremony in August, providing cool drinks (you can even order your own private-label bottled water!) and paper fans (we love them printed with wedding programs) would make guests more comfortable.

Dress Code A beach wedding is not the ideal setting for a formal ballgown or long train. Whether you opt for a tropical island sheath or a demure slip-dress, take advantage of the heaps of stylish fashions available to set a coastal mood. Light fabrics, such as sheer silks and chiffons, have a nice fluid movement to them, yet still look dressy.

If you’re having a platform set up as a wedding aisle, then your satin pumps will be fine. Otherwise, consider sandals…or why not go barefoot? Find a pair of bejeweled barefoot sandals and you’ll look both dressy and casual. You can save your high heels for the reception.

And don’t forget your own wrap—a filmy stole, lacy shawl or faux-fur capelet makes an elegant cover-up while keeping goosebumps at bay.

Loose, flowing hair may suit your freespirited style, but if there is strong breeze, you could be battling strands in your face.

Instead, select a wedding hairstyle that has at least the front part of your hair off your face. Loosely arranged up-dos are also a lovely choice.

When planning a wedding, it can be difficult to know what to ask or how to prepare. After all, you don't know what you don't know, right? With so many resources and opinions out there, who can you trust to ensure you're getting valuable information that will enhance your wedding experience and not the other way around? We have asked the area's top professionals to weigh in on real information to help your day go smoothly. There is no fluff here, no promotional angle, no sponsors, just beneficial tips and tricks from those who have made careers working with couples on their big day. We are hitting all the major categories from photography to formal wear and everything in between. • Meet them face to face to get to know them. You're booking should be based on their personality as well as their talent. Confirm they fit your personality and vision for your day.

• Do they carry back up equipment? They should be prepared with back up's just in case something goes wrong electronically.

• How often do they upgrade? Every 3-5 years is standard.

• Are they nickel and <liming you? Do your research on package pricing and what's included.

• Ask them to show you examples of what the set up will look like on your day. It should look clean and professional.

• Ask if the DJ will be a 1099 subcontractor or W2 permanent employee.

• Ensure your vendor carries the proper insurance and licensing.

• Ask how many weddings a year your lead photographer does each year (30-35 is the average minimum for a full-time professi�nal.)

• Ask your photographer to see at least four full client galleries from the time of year you'll be getting married (around the same month and within the past year).

Make sure they are the full galleries the client received and not blog posts - this is not the same! If you can see a full gallery from your venue, that's a bonus.

• Ask about how they handle different lighting situations (inclement weather, after dark, indoors), and ask to see examples.

• Ask what the guaranteed turnaround time for all images (not teasers), how the images will be received, and in what resolution .

• Ask how many weddings they do a year (25-30 is the average minimum for a full-time professional.)

• Ask what the guaranteed turnaround time for the video(s) (not just a teaser), how the video(s) will be received, and in what resolution.

• See other full videos they have delivered on from previous weddings. If you can see a video from your venue, that's a bonus.

• Ask about their lighting, make sure they have appropriate lighting that won't take away from your wedding, but enhance it.

• Ask about the quality of their equipment . Current industry standard is 4k cameras with 3-axis gimbals.

• Ask if the lead videographer will be a 1099 subcontractor or W2 permanent employee.

• Ensure your vendor carries the proper insurance and licensing.

• Make sure they specialize in bridal hair and makeup..

They should be licensed, certified, and insured.

• How many weddings do they do a year? The minimum for professionals should be around 60-65 per year.

• How much time will it take to complete the bride and bridal party?

• How many individuals per artist? Make sure they have enough artists to support the size of your party.

• Ask about their products, they should carry a variety of hair and makeup products that are high quality and industry tried and tested.

• Don't skip out on your trial! It's the time to test out your wedding day look and work with your artist to ensure they get what you're going for and can accomplish it.

When planning your wedding, choosing the right entertainment is one of the most important, memorable decisions you’ll make!

electing the right e nte r t a in m e nt for your wedding can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be difficult if you know the right questions to ask.

In business, an executive considers both price and value when making an investment. Essentially, the same principles apply.

You’re making an investment into one of the most memorable aspects of your once-in-a-lifetime celebration and you must choose wisely!

Extreme quotes, both high and low are often questioned, but entertainment is not a commodity. No two entertainers or bands are the same and value can vary greatly between options. This is a topic I will delve into momentarily. Identifying quality and experience, aligning with your own unique style and knowing exactly what a quote includes is something that needs to be clearly understood when making your decision.

Among the most important factors to consider are budget and personal preference. Do you prefer a band or DJ? Some couples want live entertainment at their wedding while others find the style of a DJ-MC to be more compatible to their

own taste and the vibe they wish to create for family and friends.

Let’s start with choosing between a live band and a wedding-experienced DJMC. Strong arguments can be made for both and your preference and budget will play a major role in making this decision. A great band is impressive to watch, especially a wedding band with a full horn section for dancing, a strong backline and a variety of great vocalists. If this is your preference, be prepared to put 8-10 professional musicians on your payroll for a full day.

Some couples even go as far as hiring both a great live band and a DJ-MC for band breaks, but that greatly impacts most budgets.

According to a recent poll published on Wedding Wire, the average wedding band will cost anywhere between $4,500 and $6,500, while many can top $10,000

on the higher side of the scale. Hiring a popular, wedding-experienced DJ, whether it’s one individual or two, your investment in entertainment will certainly be more affordable. Most couples spend between $1,095 and $1,995 for a professional DJ or DJ-MC Team at their reception, but this can vary greatly as there are so many options. DJs are often asked to provide additional services, many of which add significant time, preparation and expensive production items such as elaborate lighting effects, decorative up-lighting packages, expert ceremony sound, and more. These features can add up, so make sure that you’re comparing apples to apples when comparing quotes.

Why so much, you may ask to “just play music for 5 hours”? To clarify this misconception, an experienced wedding entertainer

will spend up to 10 hours in most cases, from your initial consultation through timeline preparation. A professional doesn’t just “show up”. He or she wants to get to know you, understand your vision, musical taste and prepare a detailed timeline. Then, on your wedding day, they’re preparing again, rehearsing and arriving hours before all guests to ensure everything is setup properly and working flawlessly in advance.

Then the “5 hours” begins, followed by a few more hours of breakdown and travel home. When it’s all said and done, your DJ will likely invest 20+ hours into making your celebration the best that it can possibly be. Spectacular receptions don’t “magically happen”. They require a lot of work, preparation, stateof-the-art equipment and again, “wedding-specific” expertise as opposed to the average party.

If you must cut corners to stay within a certain budget, DON’T skimp on the entertainment. As a wedding professional, I hear many horror stories, but by then it’s much too late. Here’s why… In today’s digital age, entry into the industry is EASY. Everyone has access to music and some parttimers stream (and pray for strong wifi) and many use pirated music of poor sound

quality. Inexpensive gear is now available at retailers like Sam’s club. While that is fine for the small backyard party, inadequate gear inevitably results in static or total failure. He popped the question and you said Yes! Then you picked the date, the perfect venue, and now you are finalizing all the pieces that will ensure that your wedding day matches your vision. You will soon begin to think about how your photographer will help capture all of these details and show your personal love story. As a wedding photographer, helping create an amazing artistic record of your day is my top priority. In this article, I’ll give you a few tips on how to help make sure that your wedding photos are as perfect and stressfree as possible. These tips don’t involve spending hours on Pinterest choosing poses or crafting lots of awesome signs and props. (though feel free if you are crafty or love looking at #weddinginspo). These four tips will help no matter what kind of wedding you are having.

Engagement Session - Surprisingly, the first and best thing you can do to help your wedding images is to schedule an engagement session with your wedding photographer. This is a time, well in advance of your wedding, that you get together with your photographer to make portraits. These photos are often used for save the dates, wedding web-

sites, and decor for your home. They are also a great chance to get in front of the camera as a couple and prepare for the big day to come.

At my studio, we love doing unique and involved engagement photography sessions. Typically we’ll choose a location based on your favorite places and spend an hour or two getting to know each other.

Beyond all the awesome images we get to make together, this helps out tremendously on the wedding day. We build a great rapport so that when I show up on the wedding day, we are well on our way to being old friends. Also, it is a chance for me to teach you a few poses. They may feel a little awkward at first, but this is part of the process.

We work together to show you what looks amazing and see what poses work for you as a couple. On your wedding day, when stress is at a slightly higher level and time constraints are a little tighter, having this experience will make things flow much more smoothly.

Timeline - It's my job as a photographer to work with you and other professionals involved in your wedding to help create and stick to a timeline for your day. On

the wedding day, this is one of the biggest factors that contributes to amazing and stress-free photos. You can help yourself out by allowing for plenty of time to do everything that you need to do on your busy wedding day. Timelines and photos go hand in hand. If we have a little extra time, we can do more fun and creative things. Most importantly, if you are feeling rushed, it may show in your expressions. Your wedding day isn’t one big photoshoot, but a lot of little events that you share with your closest friends and family. We hate to have to rush through any of those moments because we’ve run out of time.

Fittings and Trials This goes for the guys and

the girls. Make sure your wedding attire is fitted properly. It will be tough to show your real personality if you are fighting to breathe or if your dress is falling off.

This goes for shoes as well. For sure rock those flawless heels if that’s your thing, but make sure you can wear them without wincing in pain. Make-up trials are also important.

This goes back to the timeline so that your hair and makeup team know how long it will take to achieve the look you are going for. It also prevents surprises on the wedding day. Be sure to speak up during the fittings and trials to get things the way you like them.

Plan,plan,plan, then let go - This part is most important. Make great plans, chose great vendor partners and then when the day arrives, go with the flow and have an amazing time. My job as a photographer is to keep you on schedule and create beautiful candid moments as well as some fun artistically posed images.

The absolute best wedding photos are ones that show true love and happiness.
