Editor’s Note: For this week’s interview, we sat down with Virginia “Ginny” Atwood, a retired nurse and longtime Saugus resident, to help celebrate her 100th birthday. She was born on Dec. 10, 1919, in Salem, Mass. She spent her younger years in the Salem Children’s Home and later moved to Melrose. She is a 1937 Melrose High School graduate. She decided to become a nurse and went on to study for her RN license at Whidden Hospital in Everett. She worked as a nurse for

wo former Everett residents, Attorneys Jason R. Scopa and Peter E. Flynn, representing the Stigmatine Fathers of Waltham in a marathon mediation session with retired Judge Stephen Neel and Waltham city officials achieved the highest settlement ever achieved against a city in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The city of Waltham, with the support of Waltham Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy and City Council President Paul J. Brasco, agreed to a total settlement of $30 million to be paid to the Stigmatine Fathers of Waltham. The Stigmatine Fathers are a Catholic organization with historical roots in Rome. The

property taken by the city of Waltham for a new high school was the location of the Stigmatine campus and sanctuary which had been in their possession for 100 years. The property was taken in July 2018 and the litigation was intense involving numerous issues regarding valuation, relocation, fair dealing, environmental issues and the Massachusetts School Building Authority. The case was unique in that after the city made the taking within weeks they brought a Complaint against the Stigmatine Fathers claiming that the taking was legal. Ultimately, a Superior Court judge ruled that
