After high school, Bill proudly enlisted in theUnited States Marine Corps where he received the Korean Service Medal with 4 stars, United Nations Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal for his eff orts in the War. Bill was the owner of the Barney’s Tire Centers in Malden for many years, the past president of the Malden Rotary and recipient of the Rotary InternationalPaul Harris Fellow Award. In accordance with the CDC’s current restrictions on gatherings due to COVID-19, all Services will be held privately. A Memorial Service to Celebrate his Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of fl owers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 970025, Boston, MA 02297.

In 1935, Ruth knew he was fi nished. Poor health and weight problems reduced his capability. He played few games and was not the star he had been.
Babe Ruth had outstanding statistics as a ballplayer. Over his career of 22 seasons, he hit 506 doubles, 136 triples, 71 homeruns and 2,873 hits, and he had a batting average of .342. He played in 2,305 games and scored 2,174 runs and had 2,213 RBIs, 8,399 at bats, 2,062 bases on balls and 1,330 strike outs, and he stole 123 bases. Ruth played in two All-Star games, seven World Series championships, was AL MVP in 1923, AL batting champion in 1924, 12 times home run leader, six times RBI leader, and AL ERA leader in 1916, and is in the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame as a pitcher.
