By Tara Vocino ard 2 City Councillor Ira Novoselsky was sworn in as a trustee at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home on Tuesday morning. n Saturday, Sept. 14, the City of Revere officially opened the Staff Sargent Walter A. McKenna and Private Claude Mercurio Memorial Park on the corner of Orchard Avenue and Crescent Avenue in Beachmont. Residents from across the city showed up to offer their support and honor the two World War II veterans, who were lifelong members of the city. “My grandfather and the Mercurios’ grandfather grew

up across the street from one another,” said Bobby McKenna, the great-grandson of Staff Sargent Walter A. McKenna. “On Memorial Day, Veteran Services awarded our family and their family with signs, and we didn’t know what to do with them. The Mercurios, who are landscapers, had the idea to put them in a park. It kind of steamrolled and seemed like a good way to honor both men,” he said.
