S

augus Board of Health members have a tentative plan for closing the ash landfill located at the Wheelabrator Saugus, Inc. trash-to-energy plant on Route 107 – with the date and the logistics to be determined. The board voted 3-0 at its Monday night meeting to create “a post closure

subcommittee” that will meet with Wheelabrator officials to decide on when and how the landfill will be shut down permanently. Members of the committee will include, but not be limited to, the Board of Selectmen chair, several Health Board members – including the chair, representatives and/or residents from Precinct 10 – the host neighborhood of the plant, Town Meeting members, the town manager and Wheelabrator, according to Heffernan. “There will obviously be more discussion of who will be on it. There will obviously be more discussion with Wheelabrator,” Heffernan said at Monday night’s Board of Health meeting. “Basically, what we are looking to do is get Wheelabrator to the table and talk about a closure date.
