t is clear that climate change is the greatest existential threat that we face, and it requires bold action to transform every sector of our economy,” said Congresswoman Yvette Clarke at her panel on technology, climate change and New York. How technology is used to make New York more resilient and able to adapt to climate change was the subject of the panelists who work for the city at the interface between the digital world of analysis and the activity at a bus stop in Queens with the burning of fossil fuels. The West Antarctic Ice Sheet is of particular concern to scientists because it contains enough ice to raise global sea level by up to 16 feet, and its physical confi guration makes it susceptible to melting by warm ocean water. Recent studies have suggested that the collapse of certain parts of the ice sheet is inevitable. But will that process take several decades or centuries?
