Show of compassion for MHS teachers School Committee crafts a level-funded budget

By Barbara Taormina

$74,200,150 budget, the same as last year. Mertz pointed out that a level-funded budget is the same dollar amount as this year without any additional money to cover next year’s negotiated raises and other contractual obligations. Cuts are needed to cover those costs, and there are other unknowns and uncertainties at play. “We don’t know what the budget situation will look like coming down from the state in the next few months,” said Spadafora.
