ummer is here! How many of you are excited about that? I'm sure there are a great number of you but there are also A LOT of us who are not fans of the high heat and humidity. We've jumped in with both feet essentially. Today marks the second day in what will probably turn out to be a 4 day heatwave. Now, a heat wave occurs when you've got 3 consecutive days at 90 or better. I think that's easily doable. It's important to remember to remain hydrated and avoid strenuous activities. If you're working outside, take frequent breaks in the shade. On another note we are uncharacteristically quiet on the tropical front. Not many years I can recall where we got 4 weeks into hurricane season

and not have a SINGLE tropical disturbance anywhere in the northern hemisphere. Crazy! But that's good. Saharan dust and high amounts of wind shear are to thank. Let's hope that continues into the rest of the season, though don't let your guard down, it's still VERY early in the process.

stood up! I stood up! cried 16 year-old Chloe Bryne on Saturday morning. Her joy was palpable as she jumped up and down on the sandy shore of the Brigantine Beach. Chloe, who has Down’s Syndrome, a prosthetic foot, and a contagious smile has been participating in the Heart of Surfing organization since its inception in 2014. Heart of Surfing's mission is to give those with special needs the opportunity to enjoy

the waves and the grandeur of the ocean. For some that means standing up on their surfboards for the first time. For others, it is paddling around on their board, riding a wave on their belly or even just experiencing being in the ocean for the first time. We meet our water enthusiasts wherever they are, and create a fun and safe experience for them. This past Saturday, Brigantine Beach Patrol along with the Brigantine Fire Department and Primal Surf Shop teamed up with Heart of Surfing to create a special event for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities to go surfing. The day was perfection. As the sun shone down and the waves lightly crashed on the shore, the special needs surfers were having the time of their lives. The volunteers were equally stoked to share the joy of surfing. As I walked around thanking the volunteers for

their time and service, they were thanking me even more. Bob and I often get a lot of the credit when it comes to Heart of Surfing but the truth is, we receive so much more than we give. The smiles, the excitement, and the sheer joy that we see in our surfers is unmatched. The people and organizations that come together to give of themselves with no expectations of getting anything in return is awe inspiring. Although it seems to defy reason, it is true that the more you give, the more you have. You have more joy, more compassion, more understanding, more empathy and more of all those invisible things that simply make us feel better about who we are. The coolest part of Saturday's event was

how many community organizations and individuals came together to make it happen. A community is only as strong as its ability to include all the people within it, disability or no disability. Brigantine took a stand for an inclusive community and it was amazing! Heart of Surfing started five years ago as a very small group and has grown significantly over the years. We've turned to the community for support to make it possible and we are overwhelmed with the positive response we have gotten from so many municipalities. Ocean City, Margate, Longport, Atlantic City and Wildwood in conjunction with Dean Randazzo are all hosting surfing events for those with special needs this summer. The surf community as a whole, including surf shops such as Heritage, 7th Street, Surfer Supplies, Jersey Devil and AC Surf School have all been so supportive. As special needs parents and founders of the vision, we can't thank you enough for making our dream a reality for so many.

What to Read this Summer On the Beach By Marci Lutsky

f you ask me if I watched the latest hot new show on Netflix, chances are that my answer would be no. If you ask me if I’ve read anything good lately, chances are that I could go on and on. At any given time I’m listening to a book while also reading one to two books. I keep track of all the books I’ve read on www.goodreads.com but if you aren’t following me there and want some summer reading inspiration, here you go. If you are looking to get completely lost in a book, I recommend Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. It is a beautiful story of a girl abandoned by her family in the marshlands of North Carolina and who finds herself accused of murder as an adult. This is a page-turner that you won’t be able to put down. My book club chose this for our last meeting and it’s great for discussion. Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor

Jenkins Reid tells the story of a rock band’s rise to fame in the sixties and the dramas that unfold between bandmates. It received high acclaim making me want to read it. While reading, I found myself wondering why it came so highly recommended but then I found the

ending highly satisfying and was sad when it ended. This is definitely a fun summer read, especially for music enthusiasts. If you are a fan of non-fiction, I can’t say enough good things about Becoming by Michelle Obama. I listened to it which totally added to the experience as it was read by her (not always the case in

audiobooks). It is such an interesting and inspiring story of how someone who came from so little still appreciated how much she had. I cried many times while listening and it further increased my respect and admiration for the Obama family.

I’m currently reading Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane, the story of childhood neighbors whose lives are forever affected by a family tragedy. I’ve stayed up many late nights with this one and find myself thinking about it during the day. I’m also currently listening to Jennifer Weiner’s new book, Mrs. Everything which tells the story of two sisters growing up in the sixties and experiencing tragedy and trauma.

Jennifer Weiner is always reliable for a good summer read and so far this one is not disappointing. Next up I’m going to be reading Keeper of the Lost Cities which falls under the genre of Fantasy Fiction. While this normally isn’t my first choice of genre, my daughter devoured this series and in an effort to follow what she loves to talk about, I want to find out what is so good about these books. Besides keeping track of my recent reads on Good Reads, I’m always filling up my Pinterest reading board with titles I want to check out soon. Summer Kicks Into High Gear With Full Events Schedule

Music Pier Hosts Springsteen and Broadway Tributes, Summer Concert Series

ummer has officially arrived, and that means Ocean City’s busy calendar of beach, boardwalk and downtown events is underway. From the popular weekly Farmers Market, Funtastic Tuesdays and Market Days in the downtown to Wacky Wednesdays, Family Nights and Mummers Nights up on the boardwalk, the schedule holds something for everybody. The Ocean City Music Pier also will come to life with the Summer Concert Series underway and a Springsteen tribute and Broadway celebration on tap. The local Ocean City post will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Legion by presenting “BRUCE IN THE USA,” the world’s No. 1 tribute to Bruce Springsteen, at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 29. My Journey Beyond The Waves….

he day was Saturday June 8th, D-day for the twelfth annual paddle for a cause. I woke up early and ready, it was show time! I had committed to doing the 22.5 mile Paddleboard Tour race around Absecon Island four months earlier. February I had started to feel a fire kindling deep within me, a feeling I hadn’t felt in a very long while. Being a former Surfing World Tour competitor, this fire always raged inside of me. For the past four or five years I had been going through a rough patch in my life; separating from my life partner / family whom I was raising two beautiful boys Dean Jr now12 and Chayton James 6 with. The fire within me was out and lost for quite some time. It’s a beautiful course but extremely grueling at times and it is very susceptible to adverse conditions such as wind and tides. Being WPA sanctioned event, the hard core crew shows up from around the country to earn point and some prize money. This event has become the Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation's biggest fund raising event.

it! My stomach became so nervous! I hadn’t felt that nervous feeling in a long time. There is something about competition day that I always struggled with to get anything down. This was different, I thought after all, I wasn’t in it to win it, my only goal was to finish the course. But it all hit me that morning! I had actually committed to doing this, it was all out there on social media it had gotten pumped up that I was doing this 22.5 mile race. The pressure was on and it all hit me that morning! Those negative thoughts start creeping in your mind. Am I ready?..Did I train enough? you can’t do this..your gonna fail..your gonna let everyone down etc. The pressure only got worse at the launch site when I learned that the Press of Atlantic City did a cover story, Wow! What if I fail now! What did I get myself into? After all I’m not much of a stand up paddle border. In fact, I had only been out on a board a couple of times for a short paddle since last Paddle for a Cause last year! My training was land based focused on intense interval training utilizing full range of motion and

After going through multiple cancer treatments Radiation and chemo, my lungs arenâ€™t very efficient so my focus on training was to get my cardio, breathing and endurance up to have a chance at finishing the race. We all lined up at the start line and then the siren blew, off we went! It was clear from the start, I was holding down the back end of the pack but it was really nice to share the starting line up with these guys for the first time! These guys are animals! For me the start wasnâ€™t easy. Before I entered the water I did a quick prayer getting down on one knee and asking the big guy upstairs to give me the strength! The race line started at the Golden Nugget and headed out of the inlet to the ocean. Tides and wind really play a huge factor on this around the Island race so every year is different. To prepare for a mission such as this you really have to spend some time physically and mentally preparing but your never ever completely ready. There is always the unknown factors that may arise. My experiance involved a fisherman catching me! Yes, his hook caught my leash while I was passing along the Atlantic City inlet Jetty. He literally reeled me in

up onto the rocks! Meanwhile the wind, current and waves were bashing me into the Jetty! I found myself in a moment of What do I do? Bight the line with my teeth, or hope the fisherman cares and cuts the line (no way) or try and unhook teeth?...or my leash up on the jetty while trying to not have the borrowed C4 expensive paddle board and paddle damaged on the rocks? Not only is this board top of the line expensive but it has sentimental value, un benonest to me this board was given to Chuck peola owner of Harbor outfitters by Greg Webber a friend and sales rep who had recently passed away from cancer. Greg was such a great person and supporter of the DRCF we made a Greg Webber annnual award this year to honor his contributions. Oddly, I ended up with this C4 12,6 raee board because Chuck had forgotten that I needed to borrow a 14 foot

race board. C4 stands for endurance, balance, strength and tradition. After jumping off my board and bashing around on the rocks I did manage to unhook my leash amongst the mayhem but I did get some lacerations on my legs from the barnicles, luckily I was wearing booties! I got back on track, only the fin lost about an inch on the Tip; sorry Chuck! I rounded the AC inlet jetty heading down beach in the ocean, that morning was drizzling and foggy but as I rounded the inlet jetty the sun came out and it was the most beautiful morning of the year! I stopped and did a quick instagram live post stating my progress thus far. At this point I was clearly in last place (thanks to that fisher man snagging me up! I might have won! Ha ha!) but it was amazing to be out there in the ocean all alone complete solace! My brother Joe was out

there doing water safety on a Ski, it was nice he was out there as I might not have been out there if not for him being a perfect match for my second stem cell transplant ultimately saving my life giving me that opportunity to be out there that day. Iâ€™ve always done a good job at suppressing my feelings, not showing emotions and especially the times Iâ€™ve spent dealing with cancer. Being out there and â€œon this missionâ€? sort of carrying the flag for other people dealing with cancer and hopefully giving them hope brought up some of those emotions and feelings I had suppressed. Not thinking about it or dealing with it, or acting like it never happened has always been my defensive mode. As I reached Margate pier, the emotions built; after all this is where my life basically started for me and also ironically where this paddle for a Cause started! Margate pier is where I grew up, my life centered around and where my surfing career began! I had to stop there! The fire inside me was growing more intense! It was a special moment I shared alone and then I went Instagram live for another update. I was so grateful to be out there and to be able to pay tribute to Mike May and the original crew that first paddled this event back in 2008 when I was in the hospital battling for my life! My life had oddly come full

circle! But the mission wasn’t even half way complete so off I went. It was a beautiful paddle down beach in the ocean as I rounded the longport jetty and passed by Ben Gravy at his famous “El Slamo” spot where he and his crew were getting some “Slamo’s” on their softies. I continued along rounding the point into the bay for now I still had the tide as my friend (but that was short lived!) I met up with the wind and current change after the longport bridge! The weather forcast was for increasing northeast winds throughout the day, this was a strong headwind and with the tide changing to low the wind would really push the water against me, I knew I had to keep pushing and that I really needed to get to the middle of the Island before the tidal push happened. I kept fooling myself along the way by saying if I only get to there it will get easier and the hard parts were over, somehow I actually truly fooled myself into believing that!? There were a few easier parts but short lived, the harder parts kept showing up and kept getting harder! Its an amazing paddle, you see a lot of wildlife and interesting things along the way and get to see things from a different perspective paddling along the course. When I launched that morning I packed food and hydration in my back pack I wore, I knew there was only two factors that would defeat me, Dehydration and or Tide + wind. I packed two banana’s, one apple, one 12oz bottle with scoop of electrolytes, one 12oz bottle with one scoop protein, one can of Sardine’s and two Gatorades that’s it! I made it to Ventnor Heights, where you make a turn and its out of the wind so I stopped there and ate my apple and sardines and some Gatorade I had finished the other drinks a while ago along the way. A cute little turtle swam up close - probably tasted the sardine juice I drained into the water. Made me worried, what if there’s a bull shark near by?! A lovely co real estate agent I work with told me the day before about the seals that were found in Avalon bays and went on to say how “you know what likes to eat seals right”! I actually thought at one point I saw seals! I was like holy shit and oh no! There are seals out here! Thanks Cindy! But when I got closer it was only buoys floating. Maybe I was hallucinating at that point! After I ate, I ventured on thinking now that I’m now basically in the middle of the Island the worst was behind and that now I was on the other side of the outgoing tide I soon found out that was not the reality. Theres a mile stretch to the Wonder Bar that was upsettingly brutal! I kept looking at the bulkhead to see if I was actually

making any headway and as long as I was I would keep going. If I stopped for a second the wind was so brutal in the open areas that it would instantly blow me backwards and turn me around. My mantra for getting through these though parts was “I Can, I Will” your mind will play games with you, those thoughts at those toughest times tell you to stop, this is to hard, you don’t have to do this, you gave it a good shot etc.. your subconscious mind will try to stop you, it becomes a battle in the mind, your subconscious mind has more control, but YOU have the ultimate control of your own mind! Testing that is incredibly empowering! I wanted to give up along the way, but I couldn’t because I knew that if I gave up, it would give those dealing with cancer the thought that they to could give up and I wasn’t going to let that happen! The final stretch was the absolute hardest getting to the AC inlet I was met with solid 15-25mph head wind I was barely moving forward I’ve already passed a few long stretches like this earlier “I can, I Will, I can, I will”! My Mantra! I prayed this day, not only at the beginning of the race but during when I didn’t think I could go on “lord give me the strength”! I felt sort of super human this day, in the back bay not at the start but more towards the end, my body became incredibly efficient, paddling non-stop. My cramps were gone. I kept going like a machine!? I felt like I was 25 again! I usually get winded easy so it was very surprising to me! The adrenalin must have been flowing thick in my veins; it was clear to me it wasn’t all me out there this day, Angels were watching over me out there! As I passed into the AC inlet on the home stretch, it finally got easy and was smooth sailing I finally knew I had the finish in sight. A big group lined the dock as I came around the final corner, everyone cheered. It was a powerful moment as I crossed the finish line! I didn’t listen to music or wear a watch, I was on a mission! I finished in 8 hours 6 minutes. It was the best and most rewarding last place finish of my career! But ultimately, finishing this race wasn’t about me at all, it was all about re-lighting the fire and giving back the hope to those individuals fighting cancer who’s fire within to fight has diminished or gone out. Stay strong, stay the course, I will I can! Special Thanks; I just want to thank all the board members, sponsors and everyone who came out to paddle to support this event! The event raised over 70 thousand dollars which goes to directly help and support individuals and their families who are dealing with cancer!

The Beginner’s Guide to Beachcombing By Steffen Klenk

tepping onto the beach can be quite an adventure. One of my favorite activities any time of the year is beachcombing. You never know what treasures will be found next. From sea glass, sharks teeth, seashells to driftwood, our beaches are filled with treasures of the sea. The word “beachcombing” first originated from an 1840 book by Richard Henry Dana Jr. titled Two Years Before the Mast. It was described as residents of the South Pacific Islands who would “comb” the beach in search of ship’s goods that had been lost at sea, shipwrecked items, which they used as goods for trade. Today, seashells are the most beautiful, sought after treasures. They were once home to various mollusks (slimylike creatures such as snails or clams). Their delicate bodies secrete calcium carbonate that hardens on their bod-

ies, creating a shell which continues to grow until the mollusk dies. Do you ever wonder why there is a single hole in a shell? While in the ocean, a moon snail attaches itself to the shell of clams, releasing an acid that causes the shell to soften. It then drills a hole using its long, sharp tongue called a radula, and eats the clam inside. Shells you can expect to find along our shores vary in size and color. Bay scallops, Atlantic ribbed mussels, oysters and razor clams are just a few of them. The most sought after shells are the Whelks, white surf clams, starfish and sand dollars, which are a real treasure if found fully intact. Other treasures include pieces of driftwood, sea glass and sharks teeth. Finding a sharks tooth along the beaches of New Jersey can be a rare find. Throughout its lifetime, a shark will shed approximately 35,000 teeth. Those who have an interest in searching for shark’s teeth may have some luck. best bet to do some fossil hunting. Before you go out on a beachcombing adventure, there are several items you’ll want to bring. • A watch as a reminder of tidal changes • Shoes with appropriate soles: Walking along our beaches is usually done barefoot, though some of the shells may feel too sharp. Climbing over rocks can also be quite slippery. • Containers such as bags, buckets or baskets • Hand sanitizer: Shells won’t have the most pleasant odor until they are washed at home. • Sunscreen • A shovel to dig for treasures; a grabber stick may be helpful As you scan the beach, there are a few important things to remember. Make sure there are no sea creatures living inside your collection of shells. If a shells feels just slightly heavier than normal, carefully check before placing it in your bag or pocket. The ocean is their

home too. Also, be alert for horseshoe crabs that have washed ashore. They may look dead with the underside up. If turned over gently, you may find it making its way back into the water. Be aware of slippery surfaces, undetected tides and fish hooks. Sadly, on some walks I have encountered items that do not belong along our shores. Please do your part to help make our beach clean and beautiful. Carry an extra bag to collect any trash and dispose of in the appropriate receptacles or at home. In an effort to prevent trash from impacting our oceans, families, individuals and beach clean-up groups can identify their findings with the Marine Debris Tracker. Launched in 2010, the website, marinedebris.engr. uga.edu, has logged over 1.5 million pieces of ocean debris, submitted by users worldwide. Marine Debris Tracker is supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). There are many shell and sea glass magazines for both adults and children that include endless ideas for family oriented activities. Shell painting, making wind chimes, even a fun beach game of shell toss are just some of the fun projects you can create. Whether you’re looking for art, inspiration, curiosity or general interest, beachcombing can be a fun activity for all. Be gentle with our shore life and protect our local wildlife and beaches. Adam Sandler plays ball with kids

efore Adam Sandler played the Hard Rock Atlantic City’s Mark Etess Arena on Friday, he took to the basketball court with some of the city’s kids. Abdul Hawkins and some of his friends were playing basketball on Pennsylvania Avenue on Friday afternoon when a car pulled up.

Abdul grabbed a short video of Sandler. “You guys hoop, we’re gonna hoop. It’s all good,” Sandler is heard saying. Abdul’s friend Jahlil Boston grabbed a selfie. “Pop out at penn ave,” Jahlil wrote on the snap, “that’s really him no cap.” Then Sandler offered a full-court game of five-on-five. “We were like, ‘Heck yeah, that’s dope!'” Abdul recalled. Abdul said Sandler was funny just like in his movies.

“He was on my team, which was mad cool,” he added. Abdul was already a fan before Friday. He doesn’t have one favorite movie, but named “Waterboy,” “Happy Gilmore” and “Grown Ups” as those he’s liked. But his favorite 45 minutes is now the time spent playing basketball with the star. “Some of the kids didn’t play, but they enjoyed being around him,” Abdul said. “It was a cool experience.”

hen you hit a crisis moment, how do you know what to shift and where to make the shift? If you follow major league baseball, you know that the Phillies are in what many might call a crisis moment right now. Let’s put it this way. Where they find themselves at this point in the season is no where near where they thought they would be. So, what to do? What kind of changes need to come, tough decisions to be made? Where do you start? You know where that all falls? It falls on the leadership of the team from the front office on down to the dugout. It’s all about Leadership. You can’t hear it enough. Everything rises and falls on leadership. Whether we are talking baseball or the board room, so much of what happens and doesn’t happen in an organization comes down to that one truth. And here’s the thing, it’s not all cut and dry either. When you consider the situation the Phillies find themselves in, it can be quite a challenge. They had every intention that things were going to head in a certain direction this season and what happened? Unexpected injuries occur; unmet expectations by some of the players. And the actions or in-

juries of one player have ripple effects down the line on the entire team. It’s the same in business. That’s why it’s important that leadership be nimble, one step ahead of the game, always seeing what others don’t see. If you are in leadership in a company or even within your family, you need to have a kind of 360 sky-high view of things. But the question is how do you prepare for the unexpected? How do you as a leader make sure you are doing all the right things for your organization and your team? This past winter, my mentor John Maxwell came out with his latest book called Leadershift. In the book, Dr. Maxwell addresses all of this head on. He outlines 11 steps a leader must take in order to be who he or she needs to be. He addresses key “shifts” that need to take place mentally, on paper, in strategy and planning. The reality is as a leader, you need to be one step ahead of your competition. You need to be forward thinking in every area. Whether it’s on the baseball diamond, in the corporate boardroom, or in our homes, being ready to make necessary shifts is essential to winning with any team; sports, business and family. nterested in exploring a plantbased diet life? A diet rich in fresh vegetables, grains and legumes may slim you down and reduce your risk of cancer and other illness And cutting back on animal foods will remove a lot of cholesterol and saturated fat from your diet. Read on to learn more about a plantbased diet and find out if it's right for you. Priority is on whole or minimally processed foods (bonus points for local and/or seasonal). Keep in mind , Vegetables, grains, and legumes occupy the center of the plate..Eggs and dairy are consumed occasionally (if at all). Meat (if consumed at all) is treated as more of a condiment. My suggestion is if you want to try incorporating plant based meals do it for these reasons. If you like to reduce the carbon footprint of your diet. If You have moral or ethical objections to eating animal products. This one is big! You never met a vegetable you didn't like. You're worried about your cancer risk. Skip the plant based diet if You can't imagine life without (real) cheese as most people can not . You

feel better on a high-protein diet. Beans and legumes make you unfit for polite company. And, You're looking for a flexible, l ow - m a i n te nance diet. The idea is to be creative if choosing a plant based diet. And be sure to find some recipes that bring some extra energy to get through the day such a bowlful of this protein-rich super grain topped with a little TLC in the way of nuts and honey should do the trick. You can save time by making amaranth several days ahead, keeping it chilled, covered, and then reheating it with a little extra water. This is one of my favorite recipes. Enjoy! INGREDIENTS 2 cups amaranth 4 cups water 1/2 teaspoon salt Accompaniments: Broken or chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds; honey or pure maple syrup; milk PREPARATION In a 3- to 4-quart heavy saucepan combine the amaranth and the water.

Cover the pan and bring the mixture to a boil, whisking occasionally. Using a heatproof rubber spatula, push any seeds clinging to the side of the pot into the liquid then reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, covered, until the liquid is absorbed, 20 to 25 minutes. Stir in salt. Remove the pan from the heat and let it stand, covered, 5 to 10 minutes. Divide amaranth among bowls and top with nuts, honey, and milk. Mrs. McGregor‘s Garden

his spring I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow gardener who loves everything in hues of blue. Her beautiful garden has been planted to flow harmoniously with her grayish-blue house. Only flowers and foliage that blend with this color palette are used. She even cuts off the flowers of certain plants if they have the wrong color bloom, using them solely for their lovely silvery-green foliage. In addition to sharing a love of blue tones, we also have the common bond of fending off our garden nemeses. However, while I pull my hair out over squirrels, her bane is rabbits. During one visit, my friend Esther and I watched this lovely and sophisticated woman chase a baby bunny from her garden. As she was running down the street clapping and shooing

Given my own frustration over squirrels eating everything in my garden, I felt her pain. That’s the day my friend dubbed her, “Mrs. McGregor.” Like the farmer constantly chasing Peter Rabbit away, Mrs. M is always working to protect her treasured plants. One thing I was impressed by is how she creatively keeps the little critters from devouring her garden. Of course, she would never harm one of God’s creatures, but only wants them to dine at a different restaurant. When you take in the front yard, you see lovely little pansies and

various types of salvia whose bluish-purple flowers perfectly complement her house. But upon a closer look, many of these plants are covered in chicken wire. Her use of dark-colored chicken wire makes it an almost invisible protection. He, however, will need to content himself with the neighbor’s flowers. Mrs. M informed me that since that day, in addition to mending the fence, she has also added burlap to the inside of the fence to block the rabbits’ view of her garden.

Which Wolf Will You Feed? By Christina Sciarretta

here is a story that an old Cherokee Man told his grandson about a battle between two wolves. “A fight is going on inside of every man,” he said.. “It is between two wolves. One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” This is a powerful story that

beautifully illustrates the battle within us all. We are all capable of good: 100% solid gold goodness. We all are also capable of causing massive destruction. The small choices we make every day feed either the good or the evil and determine our ultimate life trajectory and I would argue that it begins with our words. Our words have the power to spread joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. When I think of these words, they bring a breath of fresh air to my soul. I think of people like Mother Theresa, who used her words to bring light and life to the World. As a result, she’ll be remembered throughout history as the Mother of Peace. Mother Theresa was a game-changer. She fed the good wolf. She used her voice to overpower the evil. I’m 100% certain that there were countless opportunities that Mother Theresa had to choose the other path. I even bet that if she had chosen to feed the evil wolf, she may have had some justification in doing so at times. But she chose to feed to feed the good - to SPEAK the good.

Then we have the timeless winner Hitler, who chose over and over again to feed the evil wolf. As a result, he changed history forever. You are in control of you, AND you have the power to change the course of history for your family. Every single choice that you make reverberates more than you realize. Let’s take your kids for instance: they are watching you. Every moment of every day, they are watching and understanding their world according to what you are teaching them (consciously or unconscious-

ly). When you feed the evil wolf, don’t think for one moment that they don’t see that. They will, and they will learn from you. Here is the good news: when you consciously CHOOSE to feed the good wolf… no matter how difficult it is… you’re teaching your children how to choose the good. You’re forming their understanding of the World. You only get 18 years with them and then they are off on their own for 60-80 years, and yet most of what they will understand about the world will come from your teaching. I don't know about you, but that shakes me to my core. I want to choose to feed the good wolf always, no matter what. I’m undoubtedly going to mess up, but when I do, I’m going to choose to pick myself up and get back to intentionally feeding the good wolf. I hope you’ll join me! A Life Well Lived ~ John Mazetis

eing deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage. John Mazetis had both. John was one of six children in a close-knit family. An avid biker, Grateful Dead fan, kayaker, hiker and all-around outdoorsman, John lived the kind of adventures most people only read about; yet his favorite moments were spent camping and spending time with his family. John loved dogs and had a soft spot for pit bulls. He always had one by his side and was especially fond of rescues. John was a man who gave much and asked little. Always there for a friend in need, John made a difference throughout his life. He volunteered at the Atlantic City Rescue and dedicated his free time to teaching and helping others. John c o u l d build or fix anyt h i n g . He had skills as a p l u m b e r, roofer, electrician , and mechanic, but he had a real knack for carpentry, and it was the job he most enjoyed. He took pride in his woodwork and loved designing and creating. John had a way of connecting

with people. He was always ready with a story, hug, or a helping hand. After breaking his back on the job, he became a student of Tai Chi, a practice that became his way of life. Through Tai Chi, John was able to overcome arthritis, a broken

back, three tumors and a knee replacement. His fondest Tai Chi moments were in helping people regain mobility. Although John achieved a high level of proficiency in his art and was given per-

mission to teach, he was incredibly humble. John’s students loved his energy, enthusiasm, jokes, and stories. His humor made him approachable and made people feel at ease. John was held in high esteem in the Tai Chi community as well in his group of friends. In the later part of his life, John co-created the Full Moon Drum Circle, a monthly event that brought young and old together in a celebration of the planet and our inner-connectedness. He made the drum circles unique by incorporating readings from the Tao, leading qigong forms and infusing beats from his favorite songs. John was the kind of person you could count on. He had a way with children, seniors, and everyone in between. A father figure in the lives of many, John was faithful, dedicated, reliable, and kind. We never know how many lives we touch, how our words make a difference, how a smile or simple act of kindness impacts another, but if the words of the people who knew John speak to something it is that his spirit lives on in the lives of those who loved him. In John’s words, “I hope you’re smiling.”

July 3rd HEROtini Tasting Will Offer Free Mocktails on the Atlantic City Boardwalk

ith Fourth of July celebrations fast approaching, visitors to the Atlantic City boardwalk can expect to enjoy live music, fireworks, and a day devoted to designated drivers as the HERO Campaign is set to host a special HEROtini Tasting. On Wednesday, July 3rd, bartenders from throughout Atlantic County will be serving up free samples of their own, unique HEROtini “mocktails” to raise awareness about the importance of safe and sober driving, while also trying to win the highly coveted HEROtini Cup. The HEROtini “Tasting” will take

place on the Atlantic City Boardwalk opposite the Tropicana from 11am to 2pm, and is a free event open to the public. To vote for your favorite HEROtini, visit www.herotini.org. Launched by the HERO Campaign over Memorial Day Weekend, the HEROtini Challenge is a summer-long contest between thirty-one Atlantic County restaurants and bars, challenging each to create the best “mocktail” in celebration of designated drivers. With creative names such as “The Shameless Sunrise” (Charlie’s), “Sober Summer Margarita” (Hi Point Pub), “The Meh-Hull” (St. George’s Pub), and “The Bee’s Knees” (The Doc’s Place), the contest is part of an on-going effort to promote the role of designated drivers, and the message of safe and sober driving with a positive, proactive approach so often associated with the HERO Campaign. For the folks who work in the hospitality industry, that’s a lot of days and nights of working without time off, but I’m sure the wallet or bank account is better too…!!! Since I last wrote, the Eagles have announced a pretty “anti-fan” decision that has me upset. The Phillies are in PHREE-PHALL (see what I did there?) The Sixers made a trade with Boston again on draft night, but I have a feeling this one will work out better. The Flyers trade down to get their man, but is it the right man? Two local soccer clubs are going strong for the summer. The Atlantic City Blackjacks lose a close one again, and…the ACBL is back in full swing. From the entertainment world, “Toy Story 4” is out, and I’m finally catching up with some network shows that have been sitting in the DVR forever. As always though, we begin with sports, and my thoughts for the week that was: ●● The Eagles are on my “you know what” list after cutting the number of open practices down during training camp to ONE. The Birds have continually reduced the number of training camp practices open to fans. They went from having

nearly all workouts open at Lehigh and a few at Lincoln Financial Field in 2012, to four at the Linc in 2013. Then, they cut back to just two 2 at the Linc and one at Franklin Field in 2014. The next reduction was just two at the Linc from 2015-18 and now, finally, just ONE open practice this year. And there’s a $10 fee. Sure, the money is going to the Eagles Autism Challenge, but I just feel like this was a “1-2 punch” by the Eagles where they not only scaled back the number of practices that a regular fan can attend, but also added a fee if you want to go. With all of my 700-level upbringing, I say “Boooooooo” on you Eagles for how you handled this…! Speaking of boos, they’ve been raining down on the Phillies and especially manager Gabe Kapler lately as the Phils are in total free fall these days in the standings. The stats on how bad they’ve been are flying so fast, it’s been hard to stay current as a new low seems to be reached each day. Here’s one for you that one change, according to my pal Bob Vetrone Jr., who goes as @BoopStats on Twitter, “The Marlins (27-46 before Friday) were the worst team ever (statistically) to come into South Philadelphia (CBP or the Vet) and sweep the Phillies (3+ games)” So, there you go, historically bad. The voices to fire Kapler are growing louder for sure. However, as questionable as some of his decisions have been (and there have been many), I also have to

put some of the blame on General Manager Matt Klentak. The GM is responsible for building the team and talent-wise, this team just isn’t as good as the Braves at this point. Let’s stay in the front office for a minute, but switch to the Sixers. New GM Elton Brand got the chance to put his first real stamp on the team as they traded with Boston to

pick a player out of the University of Washington. Wait, where have I heard this before? (Markelle Fultz). Hopefully Matisse Thybulle turns out to be the player that Brand and the Sixers brass envision. For now, we can only rely on the scouting reports that say he’s a defensive minded guy first, and the Sixers can certainly use more of those…! In hockey, Flyers fans were screaming on social media for GM Chuck Fletcher to take right winger Cole Caufield and his 72 goals in 64 games this season for the U.S. National Team Developmental Program, but instead, Fletcher traded down and took defenseman Cam York. York has drawn some comparisons to Rangers NHL Hall of Famer Brian Leetch. Let’s hope so as even

though Caufield is only 5-7, South Jersey’s Johnny Gaudreau at 5-9 has proven that undersized snipers can succeed at the NHL level. Fletcher did get a pick by trading down and ultimately that turned into Bobby Orr Brink, a smallish right winger who might also be able to light the lamp at a strong pace someday. Brink is going to first play college hockey for Denver University, a perennial powerhouse, so after a couple of years, maybe Brink will turn into a solid pro ●● With all eyes on the women’s World Cup in soccer, it’s a good time to remind you that not one, but TWO local clubs play games in our area. The Ocean City Nor’easters have been around in some shape or form since 1996. They play their home games at Carey Stadium right in the shadow of the big Ferris Wheel at Gillian’s Wonderland. Relatively newer are the Aces from the Atlantic City Football Club, as they’ve been around since 2017. Atlantic City FC plays home games at Silver Eagle Stadium in Egg Harbor Township for now, if you’re a fan of soccer, you should check them out…! Tough one for the Atlantic City Blackjacks as they lose by two 6361 at the first-place Albany Empire. The Blackjacks are at the Washington Valor next before returning home on Saturday July 6th against the Philadelphia Soul. Finally, don’t forget the ACBL, or Atlantic County Baseball League. There’s nothing better than a slight breeze on a Friday night at the Jerome Avenue Complex in Margate with the grill going and FREE baseball on the diamond. All games start at 7p. Just a few from entertainment as I saw “Toy Story 4” at the newly renovated Tilton Square Theater. It was very good, and most likely the LAST of the Toy Story franchise, so there was a sadness with the end of the movie. However, I’d say “Toy Story 3” will go down as the best of the series. Artist/Writer Belle Brett will be taking us all on a personal tour of Japan via The Great Bay Gallery. Belle’s recently published novel, Gina in the Floating World, set in1981 in Japan, serves as the source of inspiration for her series of collages, watercolors and photographs which will be on exhibit at the Gallery, 829 Bay Avenue, Somers Point until July 27.

In her artistic career, Brett initially focused on photography and darkroom techniques. More recently, collages, mixed media and watercolor painting have joined photography as mainstays of her artistic

expression. Belle Brett’s first novel, Gina in the Floating World, was published by She Writes Press in September 2018; it tells the story of a young American who undertakes a bank internship in Tokyo who finds herself exploring the darker side of the culture. AC Surf School is in session

s I walked up the ramp on States Avenue, part of North Beach in Atlantic City, I immediately spotted the surfers down on the beach. They were practicing their "pop-ups" on land before hitting the water. The sun was shining, the water glistening and The Wheel at Steel Pier towered just south of them. The beauty of the scene was that of a photographer's dream. To m Fo r k i n , owner of Atlantic City Surf School, was going over the basics and water safety with four new students from Galloway. After land drills, all four carried their boards and walked towards the ocean with their instructor. This beach has a long history with New Jersey surfers. The first pro surfing event in New Jersey was Circa 1966 at States Avenue, Atlantic City. In 1915, Duke Kohanamuku, after winning the US swim trials at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, came to Atlantic City and surfed the same beach. Duke went on to win two

EHT teen debuts winning anti-drug song at Atlantic City conference

ermaine Bethea prides himself on his lyrics. The Egg Harbor Township teen publicly debuted his anti-drug song, “Wasting Time,” at the 71st annual New Jersey Broadcasters Association Conference in Atlantic City on Thursday. His “tough love” take on the drug problem earned him a $3,000 music contract as the second-place winner of this year’s New Jersey Shout Down Drugs. The outgoing Egg Harbor Township High School junior had two days to put the song together after learning of the contest. Finding a beat was easy, he said. Bethea keeps files of beats he’s working on, and found an orchestral one he thought would be perfect, with a few tweaks. But he wanted to do something different for the lyrics, knowing many would take the angle of inspirational or emotional when tackling the drug epidemic in song. “Now I’m here to give you all a lesson I ain’t tryna raid your ear with a sermon of depression but the problem with our people is the evil in the drugs and the poison hidden in ‘em, fakin’ love and perfection…” “It almost feels like a tough love stance,” Behea said after the first of at least three performances he will do as part of his contract. “It’s a direct approach: it’s time for you to make a decision. You could be doing so much more.” The title is about the time wasted getting high and not fulfilling one’s potential. “It was great that Jermaine could share his message at such a prestigious event” said Angelo Valente, executive director of Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey. “Each participant from this year’s event has displayed not only creativity and musical talent, but also determination to make a difference in the lives of their peers through their passionate messages of substance use prevention.” Bethea, 17, said he always wanted to be a writer. He started out with simple poetry in middle school. By high school, he introduced music. “I’m not much of a singer but my writing is really good, I would say,” he explained.

His focus is on the art of music, Bethea said. “I’m looking forward to where else I can take it,” he said. He has performed in school plays and in the annual talent show. Although he missed this year’s performance because it was the same day as the Shout Down. Bethea already has collaborated with other upcoming talent in the area. He had a song he wanted to do at the Teen Arts Festival in Hammonton in April, and asked Imohimi Unuigbe.

Bethea was a freshman when he met the then-senior. “He’s beginning to go into his own sort of career,” Bethea said of Unuigbe.

Bethea is focused on doing the same. He has two jobs, and is ready for college, where he plans to major in film and minor in theater. It was theater that really gave him a place in school, he said. “In a way, it really started to shape and change my life,” Bethea explained. “Before I did that, I really didn’t feel like I belonged anywhere in school.” He sees a career in film making, where he can mix all of his hobbies. “When I make a music video I get to dabble in my love of film and my love of songwriting,” he said. And he definitely won’t be wasting his time.

2019 is a Record Year for the "Hurley in the Morning" Charity Surpassing $ 900,000 over the Past 12 Years

ith two of our major 2019 charity events now in the rear-view mirror, I am pleased to report that cumulatively, the "Hurley in the Morning" Charity has had a record year. Regarding our 11th Annual Charity Dinner at Resorts Casino Hotel (with Fox News All-Star Todd Starnes) and our 12th Annual "Hurley in the Morning" Charity Golf Open, held this past Friday, June 21, 2019 at The Harbor Pines Golf Club; the "Hurley in the Morning" Charity has raised a record $ 100,000 thus far in 2019. Our growth as a local-based charity has been such a great joy to be a part of. The incredible generosity of our wonderful community has enabled us to raise more than $ 900,000 over the past 12 years. I have so many people to thank. First, my employer, Townsquare Media; our Market President Michael Ruble and WPG Talk Radio 95.5 FM & 1450 AM Program Director, Chris Coleman. Their support has been unconditional. Adam Sandler Delivers

Joking, Singing, Playing Music To A Sold Out Crowd

eople ask all the time what movie made Adam Sandler famous or discovered to lead to better roles? In 1989 he starred in his first film, "Going Overboard" He was later spotted by Saturday Night Live cast member Dennis Miller who got him an audition and Adam landed a job on the show first as a writer then actor, which lasted from 1990 to 1995. It was there that Sandler created such characters as Cajun Man, Opera Man and Canteen Boy, and other skits and short songs like "The Chanukah Song" and "The Thanksgiving Song " that made him a household name quickly. One thing is very evident after Friday nights packed house show at the Hard Rock was the fans truly

love him for being so diversified and entertaining in different forms. Half the sold out crowd gave him a standing ovation when he first walked out to the stage. The security was extra tight and no pictures were allowed. "The Sandman", as he has been called over the years has had an impressive and lucrative career since he was asked to leave along with his pal Chris Farley from Saturday Night Live TV show back in 1995 when the ratings were taking a dip. Sandler has appeared in over 40 films now such classics as : Billy Madison in 1995, Happy Gilmore in 1996, " The Waterboy", in 1998, "The Wedding Singer" 1998, the classic remake of the sports-comedy-The Longest Yard, in 2005, and has diversified to producing films, writing, and has his hands in voiceover's and several forms of production in the entertainment field, when he is not doing stand up comedy to sold out crowds. In fact, in 1999 he formed his film production company called Happy Madison Productions, Netflix gave him a four movie contract and he has never looked back. Sandler has two films out now in 2019,"Murder Mystery" and "Uncut Gems".

Former SNL actor comedian/actor Rob Scheider was a warm up act, and did a nice job He came out again later to join Sandler in several skits and short comedic songs. Sandler's stage was set with 5 of his guitars on stands, a keyboard player who played music for him while he sang his various styles of comedic songs, which he played on the guitar. Sandler is an excellent guitar player and also played one song on the keyboards as he sang to the large audience. He had a flashlight pointing out to the packed crowd picking out randomly different people in the audience and singing a few verses of comedic lines to them, adding value to the tight group that loved his every move. At times, you felt like you were with him in a backyard with a few friends. The audience loved hearing and seeing Sandler with his ability to relate and capture funny moments, along with his trademark Adias striped sweatpants, sneaks and the very relaxed and casual look he had on display all night. The Sandman gave a great show! He was hitting on all cylinders Friday night. Sandler was on a roll with short comedic songs such as a quick rapper" Phone, Wallet and Keys", "The OCD Song, "The Massage Song" and others. He also mentioned twice that he would come to visit AC when he was in College in NYC, and take the bus down to AC with his college roommate to gamble and

play blackjack, and usually lose, but always had fun. Sandler's poor wife, former model-actress, Jacqueline Titone and their two daughters (who all 3 have been in some of his films) were nicely abused comically and referenced to several times with different jokes about home life, things kids do, along with their cuddly dog. At the end of the show, Adam paid tribute to his SNL friend Chris Farley who passed away by singing a song in his honor and showing clips of how funny he was which brought the crowd to a standing ovation again. Sandler actually was invited back very recently to host SNL on May 4th 2019 for the first time as a host to help honor his former cast member Chris Farley. One thing of note about Adam Sandler is he is so authentic, and has given back generously over the years to charities. He makes time to connect with people, and I love the fact that he took the time to stop before the show this past Friday to play 5 on 5 full court basketball for 45 minutes, (get in a little cardio workout for himself), and hooped it up with kids from Atlantic City, and to give them a moment they will never forget the rest of their lives. Attack on Atlantic County lawyer sparks new legislation

he attack on an attorney in an Atlantic County courtroom last month has sparked new legislation. Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo and John Armato introduced a bill that would upgrade simple assault to aggravated assault when committed against an attorney while they are performing court duties or because of their status as a counsel. The move came after public defender Mary Linehan was attacked by a client charged with murder during an appearance before Superior Court Judge Patricia Wild on May 14. Robert Fountaine, 32, is accused of killing 68-year-old Thomas Hill on Feb. 11, inside the Inlet Tower, where both lived. As Linehan spoke on his behalf during

the May hearing, he kept interrupting saying he didn’t want her speaking for him. The judge told him to wait until his attorney was done speaking, but when he cursed at the judge, she ordered him out of the courtroom. That’s when he attacked Linehan, who suffered a separated shoulder. She returned to court a few days later with a sling. Fountaine wound up with a simple assault charge. But attorneys questioned why he wouldn’t be charged the same as if he had attacked a law enforcement officer or judge, when charges would automatically be upgraded to aggravated assault. “Sometimes these things don’t come to light until something happens,” Mazzeo told BreakingAC. “We like to be proactive. Unfortunately, in this case, something happened, and now we have to address it.” He said he and Armato, both D-Atlantic, have been working with Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner on the bill. “This incident illustrated how we are all vulnerable and the penalties for an attack of a public servant should represent the severity of the crime,” Tyner said in a statement. “I am happy that our legislators saw the deficiency in the law, as I did, and

The public defender assaulted in the matter that prompted this change was simply doing her job, and did not deserve to be assaulted while she was standing up for the very person who became her attacker.” Fountaine was in court again Tuesday, with his new attorney. Former Cape May County First Assistant Prosecutor Rob Johnson has been assigned the case. He told the judge Tuesday that there are likely three facilities he will be dealing with that have knowledge of Fountaine’s mental history.

Objective is a possible murder defense of diminished capacity or insanity. Fountaine was brought out, there were five sheriff’s officers in place and a plan to make sure he sat throughout the proceeding. “She’s filming me,” he said as he walked out to a reporter recording the appearance. “Tell her to stop filming me,” he added to Johnson in a whisper. “It’s illegal.” The brief appearance went off without any issues. As for the legislation, it will now go through the Law and Public Safety Committee, which Mazzeo sits on. “In our system, although criminal defense attorneys are our adversaries, we are all officers of the court seeking justice,” Tyner said in a statement. “Additionally, public defenders are particularly vulnerable because they do not have an opportunity to select their clients. “ In addition to the bill, Mazzeo said he would like to see attorneys trained for protection as well: “We have to protect them through law and protect them through training.”

He said he was deeply saddened and heart-broken over Bruce’s passing and that his thoughts and prayers are with his family every day. Wahlberg stated that one of his close friends had just lost his father in the past few days and commented that his spirituality and faith allows him to believe that they will have an eternity together whether we live a few years or a 100 years. “Always have joy and love in your life and try to do the next right thing and spread as much love as possible.” Mark urged. Wahlberg added that he and former Philadelphia Eagle Vince Papale, No. 83, speak daily and although the actor is a New England Patriots fan, Wahlberg gets an honorary pass as an Eagles fan. n June 23rd, Ed Burns Stadium at Holy Spirit High School hosted an annual flag football event to benefit the school’s former head football coach, Bill Walsh. Walsh made a huge impact at Holy Spirit as the head coach of its football program, winning a state title as head coach in 2007, and again in 2010. Since his diagnosis in 2016, the community has rallied together to show their love and support for him as he battles Lou Gerig’s disease, also known as ALS. Alumni football players come from across the region to play in the annual game, which is a fundraiser for Walsh’s medical treatment, and his family. When Walsh was diagnosed with ALS in 2016, Holy Spirit Alum Joseph Farrow started an organization called, “Walshy’s Warriors,” that can be found on Facebook. Farrow played football

at Holy Spirit under Walsh, and after hearing the news he wanted to to help. Along with other football alumni of Holy Spirit, they began an annual flag football event. The event also includes activities for everyone in the family such as a barbeque and live music. Area high-school football teams from Mainland, St. Augustine Prep, and Pleasantville came out to support Walsh this year. Walsh’s story has drawn interest across the region, attracting people as far as Philadelphia to come out each year. Some of the people who come to the event have never met Walsh. They’ve heard his story through the media, are touched by it, and want to help. “Even as he battles ALS, he is making an impact on people,” said Farrow. The numbers are still being tallied up from this year’s event, but Farrow estimates that the organization has drawn in around $18,000 each year. Walsh’s condition leaves him unable to leave his home and he is shocked when he sees the final numbers come in. This year, a bittersweet addition was added to the event, as Walsh’s famous jersey number 16 was retired from Holy Spirit High

School’s football program. It was Walsh’s jersey number when he was quarterback of the Spartans in the 1980s. Farrow says that his number has been deserving of being retired for a years. He makes sure that he stresses to people and Walsh, that his number isn’t being retired because of his illness. It’s being retired because of the impact his life has made on the lives of the young men that have gone through Holy Spirit’s football program.

Fundraisers for Walsh also go from the football field to the halls of the school, with fundraising events throughout the year. Walshy Warriors has also held a fundraiser and birthday event for Walsh at the Laguna in Brigantine. s parents, I believe we try and prepare our children to eventually go out and meet the world with all of its challenges using the tools we have so painstakingly put in place. Lately, it has become painfully evident that I have failed in one important area with my son: how to settle disputes with your marriage partner. I admit, though, that I am far from an expert on the matter. There is no manual such as "How to Argue with Your Wife for Dummies," which could go one of two ways: either the shortest book in history or in volumes like the Encyclopedia Britannica. I would suggest my own version: "How to Lose and Still Preserve a Shred of Dignity." I would think he learned a little just by being around us, but either he was too young to take notice or was away at college during a period I refer to as "the volatile times." There probably isn't a more fitting relationship for me than what my wife and I have had for close to forty years, but there have been times of tragedy and hardships that have prompted both of us to almost hit the EJECT button. In the end, counseling and love saw us through. Just like there is the Geneva Convention for rules of war, there are rules for arguments that, although not writ-

ten, should be observed if one is going to have a long, peaceful life. My son has been married for almost 7 years and has been learning this through trial by fire. He realizes where he first went wrong was when during one argument he told his wife to "calm down." He immediately saw the error of his ways and relegated that comment to the NEVER SAY THAT list. Since then, he has added to the list “you have to take care of your own things," then there is “you are just like your mother" and the ever popular "pump the brakes." One of my own indiscretions was during what I perceived as a long, shall we say, difference of opinion. I said, “We are done here.” To which my wife replied: “Oh, you think we’re done? I haven’t even gotten started yet.” My son’s list remains a living, breathing document constantly being added to and revised as time goes on. Truth be told, we husbands probably deserve much of what is handed to us because, speaking for myself, I sometimes get lost in my own head: quite often not a pleasant place. There are times when I don't even enjoy my own company, but I have learned and am still learning. Winning a war is only temporary, but battles and truces can last a lifetime if you are fortunate. JGA Tour – 20th Year of Junior Golf Events in South Jersey By Sean Fawcett

he JGA Golf Tour, now in its 20th year, announced the first event for 2019 and is about to hit the links on July 17th at Greate Bay Country Club. South Jersey's premier junior golf event program launched in May of 2000 and has offered great opportunities to local and regional junior golfers. Thousands of kids over the years have either learned how to play golf in JGA Tour events or have improved their skills and advanced to the highest levels in college and some professionally. The JGA Tour features two divisions for boys and girls to enjoy their golf in a fun atmosphere: the 'FUN'damental Division offers co-ed golf for beginners Ages 6 to 9, Ages 10 to 13, and Ages 14 to 18 with an extra low stress set up (9-holes, modified distances, 10 is max score, rules are slightly lighter, players can have a caddie, all awards extend beyond 3rd place to all competitors).

tional affair for 20 years with her husband, Les Kammerman, running the company that distributed her work to over 600 business and handling over twenty international product licenses. The artist has had showings at dozens of lighthouse museums around the country as well as at commercial venues such as Walt Disney World and Sea World. She also designed the grand opening poster for Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Florida and has appeared on QVC. After Super Storm Sandy severely damaged their Atlantic City warehouse, destroying half of Elias’ original work and print inventory, the couple decided to reset and simplify their life. Elias wanted more time to travel and paint without the pressures of a national business. The couple now spend their winters

in Florida, where Elias works and shows at festivals around the state. In the summer, they return to Atlantic City where they live in an historic boathouse on Clam Creek. This May, Elias opened a new seasonal gallery in Brigantine Beach next to her office and studio. Donna Elias’ Beach Art Show and Sale will take place on 31st street south, between Brigantine Blvd and Revere Blvd, from 10 am to 6 pm, Tuesday through Thursday.
