Around the rest of the world, they call it “Fall,” but here at the Jersey Shore, we look forward to what we refer to as “Local’s Summer.” most of us who live here year ‘round spend the summer months in hustle mode. For many industries, including tourism and hospitality, businesses rely on the summertime for up to 75% of the year’s revenue. So, when fall arrives, we are more than ready to unwind and relax. the days are still warm and sunny. the ocean still offers comfortable swimming temperatures. the beaches and boardwalks are less crowded, offering us locals the opportunity to truly enjoy the beauty and wonder right here in our own backyard. there’s no traffic, the parking is easier, there aren’t long lines to our favorite restaurants, and shops are offering end-of-season sales. Needless to say, we love this time of year!
Festival season is in full swing, and this year’s lineup is overflowing with seasonal festivities. the annual Good Old Days Festival kicked off the season last weekend in Somers point featuring the traditional fare, family activities, live entertainment, and the premier of a new wine and beer garden. the fun continues this weekend as we look forward to several highly-anticipated events. the Downbeach Seafood Festival returns this weekend at Ventnor’s Ski beach with two days of food and family fun. Over at the Absecon Lighthouse, Seagoddess Healing Arts is hosting the Last Splash Fundraiser on Saturday to raise money for the marine mammal Stranding Center. Down in mays Landing, dog lovers will gather for “bark in the park” and on Sunday, Absecon community members will celebrate Absecon’s Creek Festival.
Wherever this weekend lands you, you are sure to have a great time! It is so incredible to live in a location that offers year ‘round fun. Fall festivals
are a wonderful opportunity to gather with friends, family, and the local community to celebrate the season while supporting small businesses. there have been many changes in the local business scene. called to adjust and enjoy. that’s what fall shows us - that as we say goodbye to some of our favorite things, we make room for the beauty of something new. the decisions we make today may seem inconsequential, but they are shaping tomorrow. We are fortunate to have a local business district with shops, restaurants, and services that we love and it’s imperative that we continue to support them. together, we have the power to create a great future for the next generation. Shore Local is a small business for small businesses. We believe that local is always the best option. this issue of Shore
Local is packed with events and opportunities to support local businesses in all ways. We humbly request that you take a look at the ads in this publication. they are the local businesses that, together, weave the fabric of our community. they are also what makes Shore Local possible, so please give them some love.
