From the Editor T he plane landed an hour ago, but my feet are still not touching the ground. I'm on Cloud 9! today I had the opportunity to fly with the Full throttle Formation team, one of the flight performance teams flying in the Atlantic City Air show.Imust admit, I was a little scared. However, I knew it was a once-in-alifetime chance, so I did it anyway. It was an unforgettable experience and the views were better than I could have ever imagined. Full throttle Formation team is the largest precision formation air show team in America. they fly Van's Aircraft, an experimental aircraft, many of which were built by the pilots who fly them. the planes are very small, even smaller than my car. I was shocked. It reminded me of the plane s noopy flew in Charles shultz' comics. My pilot, Doug "Hollywood" Hallman, described it as the "Corvette of planes." I climbed in, shoulder to shoulder with him as I secured my harness. As we were waiting for takeoff the usAF thunderbirds zoomed by, heading for a practice run over Atlantic City. Wow! upon takeoff, we headed for the coastline. I could see clusters of homes and tried to identify my neigh borhood from this new perspective. the plane dipped and turned in synchrony with the others. I looked straight ahead in an effort to keep myself calm and fight off bouts of nausea. there were five other planes in our formation and it astound ed me how close the planes were to one another. I could see their wings in every direction. It was similar to five cars on a highway, but all flying at 1,700 feet in the air amongst fluffy, white clouds. the speed, sights and sounds sent my senses into overload. I have to admit that maintain ing my composure and trying to capture photos and video of the experience was a hard balancing act for tme.he best advice I got preflight came from occasionmeormilitary.duringhadDonaldphotographerKravitz,whoflightexperiencehisyearsinthe"Donoteatdrinkbeforehand."thatadvicesavedonmorethanonethroughout my 30-minute flight. When we landed I put my feet back on the ground. two of the pilots said, " she's got that smile, like she's hooked."theyare right. I want to do it again and again. seeing the world from that vantage point was life changing. Fear, excitement and exhilaration wrestled in my mind throughout my flight. Exhilaration won. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

By Cindy Christy Fertsch Photos by Donald B Kravitz Y ou heard a loud roar over home Mon day evening. t he u nited states Air Force thunder birds soared over s outh Jersey in preparation for the annual Atlantic City Airshow. the squadron landed at the 177th Fighter Wing in Egg Harbor township, Monday evening, August 22.t he t hunderbirds are considered the pride of the Air Force, demonstrating both their skill and their in credible capability of the Air Force’s premier multi-role fighter jet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon.“We are excited to fly over the Atlantic City shoreline,” said Major Lau ren schlichting, one of the thunderbirds’ pilots. “If you haven’t seen the show since 2021, it has been revamped. It’s even more exciting than before. We want the crowd to see the power and capability of the united states Air Force."

Major s chlichting says that she has always dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot and serving with the Air Force has been “a whirlwind.” t he major said that she is proud of every member of the team and that they have worked hard to reach a high level of performance. schlichting is the only female pilot on the team that flew in the Atlantic City Airshow. she hopes to be a role model for young girls today. “I found a role model and it shaped my life. If I could do that for someone, that would be great. there are over 130 people on the thunderbird team, but only 23 are women,” said schlichting. thunderbirds pilot Major Kyle Ol iver said that he loves the energy of crowds, especially on the beach. He flew in the Atlantic City Airshow last year, which he said was a beautiful backdrop for a show.Inthe summer of 2005, Oliver decided as a child to become an Air Force pilot and said that he hopes to inspire children today to fly with the thunderbirds in the future. " that is what the airshows are all about," says Oliver. When asked about the summer block-buster film "Maverick," schlicht ing responded "Of course, we watched it together as a squadron." Was it re alistic? " some parts were and some wereMorenot."than 500,000 people visit Atlantic City to view the airshow each year, many of whom travel from the Philadelphia region to witness the event. the Army golden-Knights and Navy’s FA-18 super Hornet team joined the thunder birds and performed incred ible feats in the sky. the theme of this year’s airshow was “A salute to those who serve.” Aerial ac robatics and parachute tricks began at 11:30 am Wednes day, August 24. t he show was sponsored by the greater Atlantic City Area Chamber of Commerce, led by Chamber President Michael Chait. photos by Donald B. It’s true that not all seasons are created equal, in this case in terms of length. But it is indeed summer that is the longest season of the year, lasting about 94 days according to the calendar. And while it may not feel like it, winter is the shortest season, lasting just 89 days. But when is summer officially over? Well, that depends whom you ask. If you ask the Father time, or the astronomical calendar, we have until mid-to-late september each year. this year, the fall equinox arrives precisely at 9:03pm on thursday, september 22nd. so according to the calendar, summer has a little less than four weeks left in it. Yet we all know that Mother Na ture doesn’t always agree with Father time, and some of the nicest “sum mer” weather comes in september and even early October. Late summer warmth often is not accompanied by the oppressive humidity that we see from late June through early August. And let’s not forget the warmest ocean water of the summer tradi tionally occurs in early september as well. With that persistent pocket of cold water off of our coast at times this summer, hopefully we saved the toastiest ocean temperatures for last thisYetsummer.there’s plenty of reasons to believe the best summer weather is still in front of us, as long as the tropics behave and remain quiet, as they have all August. granted, that’s not too like ly as september is of course the annual peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. But let’s not worry about any tropical systems until or when they form. With around 30 days above 90-de grees so far this summer, many have had their fill of the intense heat and humidity. If you have, then you’ll likely welcome september with open arms. It’s still warm, with an average high still in the comfortably warm low 80s at the start of the month, cooling to the still mild mid 70s by month’s end. 90-degree days and even an occa sional heat wave are still possible, but increasingly less likely. t hanks to our changing climate, we’ve soared past 90-degrees twice in early October in the last 15 years. so hot weather lovers can still get their fill, but comfort is usually king once the calendar flips to s eptember. Of course, climate change is a wild card that has made september (like most months) warmer than average of late. Of the top 10 warmest septembers on record in south Jersey, 9 of them have occurred since 2005. But one thing you can’t change in late summer is the slow but steady and increasingly noticeable loss of daylight. Yes, the days are getting shorter, at a faster clip in late August and september. We’re losing about two-and-a-half minutes of daylight each day through next month, so the later sunrise and earlier sunsets are more perceptible now. We’re already down about two hours of daylight, as sunrise is coming up around 6:30am in late August, with evening sunsets around 7:30pm. that’s an hour less daylight, both morning and evening, compared to those almost 15-hour long days we enjoy in late June. so the days may be shorter from here on out and the clock on summer is ticking, but there’s still plenty of warm days and warm ocean water ahead, not to mention lighter crowds. so we don’t yet have to say good-bye to the summer. Let’s just hope it’s not sealed with any tropical trouble.
e all know there are four seasons, fall, winter, spring, and the favorite for so many, summer.
Weather By Dan Skeldon W
Don't say good-bye to summer weather
As we quickly come up on Labor Day and the “unofficial” end of the summer tourist season in s outh Jersey, you’re probably thinking that those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer seem to fly by. Meanwhile, winter’s short, cold days and long, dark nights seem to last forever.

Cape May City was awarded a $195,536 grant for the engineering design and per mitting of the Beach Avenue flood miti gation project. the project includes final design to extend the City’s promenade/ seawall for seven blocks from Philadelphia Avenue and Madison Avenue to the corner of Beach Avenue and Wilmington Avenue. Sitting on the best docks of the bay
tis Redding captured the mood when he sang, “sittin’ on the dock of the bay watchin’ the tide roll away…”. t here’s something very peaceful about watching the gentle tide of the bay flowing by. If you own a boat, you probably know all the best places to launch from your neighborhood docks. For others though, local docks are little hidden gems. they are a great place for an early morning or evening stroll, a good spot to look out over the water to ponder life, or simply somewhere to walk the dog. the dock near my house is very calm ing and beautiful. I love hearing the marsh grass blowing in the wind, and watching interesting shore birds fly by. usually, fiddler crabs can be seen racing towards their holes as we walk along the gravel road. I love taking a bike ride to the docks with my chil dren, where they can experience the beauties of nature. Often, we are greeted by kids from the neighborhood. Whether they are crabbing, fishing, or trying to catch minnows, it makes me smile thinking of the pure and simple pleasures of living by the bay. When we are too lazy or busy to drive to the beach for fireworks on the Fourth of July, we simply walk to our dock. From there, you can see the 24th Street in Ocean City

fire works of Atlantic City, Margate, Ocean City, and (in the distance) sea Isle City. It feels like a real sense of community as the locals hang out to celebrate our freedom together with a big bang. One of my favorite memories occurred after the straight line winds of the 2012 derecho. We had been without electric for six days, while enduring a heat wave. As we were all gathered along the road waiting for fireworks, a rumor start ed going through the crowd that the electric had come back on. One by one our families raced home to find out we really could use our air condi tioners again. that was a happy night. Many people enjoy taking pictures at the dock. It’s so picturesque and, for the early birds, a great place to capture the sunrise. My friend, the resa, has taken stunning pictures from docks near her house in all seasons.Welove to take my dog to the dock. However, I don’t think he read the doggy books that he’s supposed to be a Labrador Retriever that likes water. He timidly puts his feet in the water and quickly walks out again. t he most immersed he became was purely accidental. We were all having a good old time until I turned my back only to hear a large splash. Once we realized our dog could in deed swim, my son and I laughed our heads off at our klutzy dog that had backed up too far and landed right in the bay. As I sit on the dock of the bay, it’s a time of refreshment. I think about how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful area. And I have to disagree with Otis Redding just a little. I don’t think we are “wastin’ time” one bit. Launching Dock in PleasantvilleSomers Point Boat Dock and Marina on Ocean Heights Avenue

'Everyday is Our Air Show'
I f you’ve spent any portion of your summer on the beach, you’ve seen them. Flying above the horizon line, small planes tow messages across the coast. t his beach tradition has grown and changed since its origins in the 1940s. High Exposure Aerial Adver tising in Woodbine has been commissioning aerial ads for the past couple of decades. When David Dempsey, owner of the business, earned his pilot license in the early 90s, he struggled to find“Iwork.gotmy start working for a ban ner plane company in Delaware. At that time, Pat Croce, the owner of the 76ers team, got an attitude from one of the aerial ad companies in Jersey when he inquired about an ad,” said Dempsey. “Croce reached out to our firm and rented out a private grass strip in Egg Harbor township so we could fly from there. that’s how I be gan to work from south Jersey with planes towing ads.” today, High Exposure Aerial Adver tising operates 16 airplanes with over 45 employees. they have flown 2,600 different ads this year from Virginia Beach to the Hamptons. On any given day, they fly 7 to 50 billboards or ban ners per day, working with customers such as insurance companies, univer sities, Wawa, Cape May Brewing Co. and other adult beverage makers, surf shops and law firms. “One of our biggest campaigns this year was for toe fungus,” said Dempsey. When aerial advertising was con ceived in the 1940s, companies would use bamboo rods and cotton letters. Most billboards were hand-painted. today, they are digitally produced in most cases. Aerial ads were con sidered a form of guerilla marketing, but in 2022, it is now included within traditional marketing budgets and definitions.“Weget a lot of personal ads,” said Dempsey. He explained that the COVID-19 pandemic boosted aerial ad sales because people couldn’t send a message in person. En gagements, graduation celebra tions, birthdays, anniversaries, and holiday greetings can be towed by planes for hours or even all day long so that the specific recipient can receive the message and post it on social media. High Exposure, prior to the pandemic, committed 2 percent of their business to personal ads. today, it’s almost 10 percent, doing 5-10 personal banners per week. A relatively-new phenomena within aerial advertising is gender reveal announcements. Dempsey explained that soon-to-be par ents will commission a “it’s a girl” or “it’s a boy” banner to fly above the skyline, or have the plane drop col ored powder from the cockpit onto the earth below. Most locals and tourists remem ber the courageous landing of a banner plane on the Ocean City 9th street Bridge last July. Engine fail ures caused the young pilot to land safely on the bridge when he realized he couldn’t make it to the Ocean City Airport. No one was hurt that day.

“Banner planes have a stigma of being dangerous,” said Dempsey. “ that could not be further from the truth. Flying is as dangerous as the pilot allows it to be, and almost all accidents are caused by pilot error. We have an excellent safety record.” According to Dempsey, High Ex posure Aerial Ads trains each pilot thoroughly through multiple mod ules and trainers. Each pilot learns at their own pace, with some requiring more time to nail the basics than others. “We have great supervision and we hold ourselves to high stan dards,” said Dempsey. some people believe that towing a banner or billboard makes a plane more unstable. the opposite is true. towing a banner or billboard stabi lizes the plane, creating more airflow and drag, acting similar to rudder on a ship.“there’s a lot involved in flying a banner plane,” said Dempsey. Once the plane has taken off, the pilot cir cles the airstrip and drops a grappling hook from the cockpit. t he hook falls at over 80 miles per hour to ward the ground. the pilot is tasked with connecting the hook between two 5-feet tall poles eight feet between each other. the pilot pulls the throttle and connects with the banner/billboard and tows it for hours at a time. Each message is much larger than someone might expect. On ban ners, each letter is over 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide with the overall banner reaching lengths up to 120 feet. Billboards range upward to 40 by 80 feet in size. surprisingly, the banners/billboards are made with a super light weight fabric and weigh only about 40 pounds. “ they can be folded into a large duffel bag,” said Dempsey. When it comes to aerial ads, marketing gurus claim that when onlookers view ads in a happy place, like the beach, they will associate the brand with good times. Less people are looking at their phones while they are relaxing on the sand, so it gives companies like High Exposure an opportunity to display ads. “Aerial advertising is recession-proof,” said Dempsey. “We always come back stronger than ever.”

Poly Outlet Depleted furniture inventory not
A s w e wrap up the summer season and move into fall, many shore homeowners and businesses are thinking of updating their outdoor spaces. When it comes to the indoor comforts of home outside, Ocean Outdoor Teak and Polly outlet is ready to help get the look you want with quality furniture that lasts. Like many businesses, furniture retailers have faced a shortage of in coming inventory, leaving families and businesses without quality products to make their space look the best. Retailers across the country say that shipment issues are the primary cause of the shortage. Because most patio furniture makers work ou tside the United States, tariffs and taxes along with other inter national issues have been on the rise. This creates is creating big problems for homeowners and businesses alike. For tunately, local buyers need not to worry since this is n’t a problem for Ocean Outdoor Teak and Poly Outlet. They have new shipments coming in every week. Truckloads of beautiful, modern furniture are available for customers to browse and purchase. “Because the outdoor season is relatively short here in New Jersey, it is important for us to stock enough furniture for our local cus tomers to have immediately,” says store owner Alice DiGiovanni. “We are ready now, with a full selection of colors and designs of both Poly and Teak furniture.”

Teak has always been the gold stan dard in outdoor tables and chairs but its new rival, Poly lumber furniture is quickly overtaking the outdoor market. Poly lumber is built mostly from recycled products and holds its color well. Com bine its color retention with stainless steel hardware, a variety of color combi nations and styles, and you may find that poly is the best choice for beach homes, vacation resorts or country living. It is extremely durable and resistant to nearly anything Mother Nature throws its way. Poly plastic furniture can be left outside in the summer and winter without any adverse effects. The plas tic is resistant to sun, rain, sleet, snow, wind, saltwater, chlorine and mildew. You can’t say that about furniture made from wood or metal. Poly furniture is low maintenance and easy to care for; it requires no special coatings, sanding or staining. It does not require hazardous chemical treatments to maintain its durability. Poly only needs to be cleaned with some good, old-fashioned soap and water. Tables, chairs, deep seating sets and pub sets are ready to go to their new home today. Poly pub sets are pop ular at the shore. Two seat pub sets start at $950 and our four-seat pub sets with a pub table start at $1,400. Pub and bar sets are great because they allow couples and families to see over deck rail ings so their view is not obsured. These sets have the potential to make Ocean City, Sea Isle, and Margate customers very happy. The popular folding Adirondack Chairs start at $299. They are perfect for fire pits on cool autumn evenings. The Adirondack chairs sit low to the ground and offer a casual, relaxed feel. Alice reports they are selling very well to campers that seek comfort outdoors. After 15 years in Somers Point, The Teak and Poly Outlet moved to Cape May County. They are lo cated on Route 9 in Ocean View/ Clermont Cape May County. It's a beautiful area two miles south of exit 17 on the Garden State Parkway (Sea Isle exit). “We have a much larger store here and a lot of room to expand, with large outdoor displays, and a large workshop to finish and refinish our teak furniture.” says Alice’s daughter, Allison. “Over the years you may have seen our furniture at the Ocean City Yacht Club, Cape May-Lewes Ferry, Hyatt Penns Landing, Beach Creek Oyster Bar to name of few. Our company has been in the New Jersey shore area for nearly 20 years. Our past stores in Cape May and Somers Point have been combined with one convenient store right in the middle, in Dennis Township. By Scott Cronick I
t’s been less than a month since the Press of Atlantic City – now owned by the corporate media giant Lee Enterprises – elimi nated my position after 28 years. the most common question? Did I see it Absolutely.coming?AsIwatched my longtime peers get picked off one by one – Lee laid off about 400 staffers across the chain’s 75 newspapers by May of this year and more have come since – I knew my number was going to be pulled sooner than later no matter how long I worked there, how loyal I was and what popularity I have been blessed to build in nearly three decades. It was a fabulous 25 years or so … but I wasn’t happy there for numer ous reasons that I won’t publicly get into.Iam proud of my tenure there, which started working as a reporter covering Egg Harbor township for the Current, which was an upstart weekly at the time. When the Press decided to sell off the Currents, for mer Publisher Bob McCormick saw something in me as a 23-year-old cub reporter and asked former Editor Paul Merkoski to find me a spot. I was the only one McCormick saved from the sale. He didn’t want to lose me. And I think about how Bob, who has passed away, started me on a path that I was proud to call my destiny. Merkoski told me there was good news and bad news: the bad news? t he only spot he had open was in sports, which I told him wasn’t so bad … I love sports. But the hours – 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. – sucked. But I was young, who cares? the good news? It came with a $10,000 raise. Damn, I would write obituaries for $10,000 more. And my life at the Press began. Eventually, I served in numerous capacities: news desk editor; At the shore assistant editor; At the shore editor; creator of Atlantic City Insid ers with former Editor Neil Borowski and I am sure some other titles I have forgotten.ButIwas super proud to even tually be named Director of Enter tainment Publications and Events by former Publisher Mark Blum after t he Press acquired Atlantic City Weekly. We resurrected that dying brand, with a big part of it being the events I created: Wing Wars, Burger Bash and 50 Bites, among others. But after COVID, Lee’s takeover and management changes, it just wasn’t the same. And I wasn’t happy. Life after The Press so now the big question is, “what’s next?” First, it’s a lot of contempla tion and waiting for the sting to go away. After all, the Press was cer tainly part of my identity. But I still have a very successful radio show –Off the Press with scott Cronick 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays on WOND Newstalk 1400-AM, 92.3-FM and WONDRadio. com – not to mention I am co-owner of tennessee Avenue Beer Hall in Atlantic City, a project that helped resurrect a three-block radius of At lantic City thanks to my partner Mark Callazzo’s vision - and money. But I get bored easily. so two jobs aren’t enough. s o, when s hore Local owners Bob Fertsch – a former Press sales rep, sales manager of the Current and longtime friend – and his wife Cindy asked me to be part of their team, it just made sense to contin ue what I love doing: Writing about dining, entertainment and casinos in Atlantic City and south Jersey for a locally-owned publication that has a heart.that will start next week when I share my interview with the scorpi ons, who perform at Borgata Hotel Casino & spa on Labor Day, and will continue with stories about all of the great things happening in our area, whether it’s the opening of Bobby Flay Burger at Harrah’s, reviewing concerts I am looking forward to like g reta Van Fleet at the Hard Rock, or sharing my thoughts on the industry as aAwhole.lotof ex-Pressers have said there is life after the Press, and it’s even better than I can imagine, and I am sure I will slowly come around to thinking like that. thanks to all of you who have reached out and given me support as well as new opportunities. shore Local will be just part of my next chapter that is writing itself every day. I hope to contribute to other media outlets in the state and nationally – a few are in the works al ready – present fun events like I have done for years, consult on projects that are in my wheelhouse … and who knows what opportunity will present itselfButnext.no matter what I do, writing will be a big part of my future. It’s not only my passion, it’s who I am.

P aintings by Nick g rassia. the show opens september 2 and runs through septem ber 29 . A 'Meet the Artists’ reception will be held on Friday, sep tember 9 from 7pm to 8:30pm. the gallery is located in the Ocean City Arts Center, 1735 simpson Avenue, 2nd Floor, Ocean City, NJ. Artist’s statement: “Always hav ing an interest and desire to draw and paint, it wasn’t until my retire ment after 40 years in the maritime industry, that I would begin in ear nest my artistic journey. Working primarily in pastel and acrylic, much of my work is heavily influenced from my career nautical experience. the myriad of sea and sky conditions and the interplay of the lines and shapes of vessels are fascinating. Even abandoned ships or boats, in various states of decay, have sto ries to tell. Not limiting my work to maritime subjects, I am inspired by some of my other life experiences. I enjoy experimenting in other media and styles, and look forward to the twists and turns my artistic sojourn may take.”
Ocean City Arts Center’s September exhibit features Acrylic & Pastel
Largely self-taught, Nick g rassia has always had an interest in art and occasionally dabbled over the years. Aside from work related caricatures and cartoons, he hadn’t done any thing for years. In 2013, he enrolled in a local adult art class. this rekindled his enthusiasm and sharpened his skills. Initially starting with graphite and colored pencils and progressing to pastel, then moving on to acrylics. A great deal of his work, though not all, is based on photos he took early in his career, vacation photos, and local subjects. Older vessels have more graceful lines and shapes than modern vessels, and present a more interesting subject in his opinion. When working on a painting, he of ten thinks of what stories a boat can tell, the places she’s been, the storms she’s endured, and lives of the crews who served aboard her. t he Ocean City Arts Center is located on the second floor in the Community Center at 1735 simpson Avenue, Ocean City, New Jersey 08226. Hours of operation are 9am to 9pm, Monday through Friday and 9am to 3pm on saturday. the Arts Center is closed on s unday. For further information, call (609) 3997628. I s it just me or did this summer seem to fly by faster than normal? the truth is, I say the same thing I feel every year.

It seems like many of the plans we make in May turn into a rush of “squeezing in” come August. the truth is, in many ways our planning paid off and in other ways, life got in the way and plans changed. But that’s okay. I’m grateful for the time we had as a family to at least accomplish some of the things we set out to Althoughdo. s eptember and La bor Day mean for many a different schedule or routine, it doesn’t mean you and I have to suddenly abandon our plans. For those of us who call the shore our home, sep tember and October are some of the best months of the year. the weather is still quite warm in the day and the chill in the air at night is refreshing and a welcome change. there are plenty of fall festivals, nice beach days and evenings to stroll the boardwalks and enjoy the many dining opportunities still available. If I’m being honest I love something about every season. I’ll have to admit that I’m reluctant to let go of summer and I try my best to cling to a few more warm days, but I get just as excited for fall. t here is something about getting back into that routine that is comforting. the chilly nights and changing colors of the trees, the back to school sales in the schools and the pumpkins on the neighbor hood porches. I love fall. But no matter how you or I feel about it, the change is coming. When it comes to fall, we pull out warmer clothes. We begin to turn off the air conditioner at night and it won’t be long before we turn on the heat. Just as with the seasons, our lives are constantly going through change. Careers evolve or change, relationships grow or grow apart, kids grow up and so on. I guess the question is this. Are you prepared and equipped for changes coming your way? Because change is in evitable. three things to consider and be aware of as you think about change.First recognize where you are in any given situation or circumstance. second, get a vision of where you want to go and what it will look like. And third recognize what it will take to get there and then equip yourself to make the journey. t he reality is you will always need to make adjustments along the way. But you have to start with a preferred ending and educated as sessment of where change will take you. Let me be the first to welcome you to a new season.

Rosé with a kick
By Michael Bray A t this point in the summer, most wine-lovers will have enjoyed their fair share of rosé. If you’re looking to explore a new twist on a classic wine, I encourage you to try the season’s latest, highly un conventional trend: Jalapeño Rosé. Yes, you read that correctly, and yes, it’s exactly what you think – rosé wine with added jalapeño slices. this unlikely partnership was popularized by south Jersey local and tiktok phenom Allyssa Marshall (@allyssainthekitchen on tiktok and Instagram), whose April video show casing her enjoying a jalapeño-in fused glass of rosé went viral. While I love innovation when it comes to wine and spirits, I was skeptical of this unusual combi nation. And the thought of adding something as bold as jalapeño to a refreshing and delightful rosé… let’s just say I had my doubts. But with hundreds of positive comments on Allyssa’s video (“ this is my new fa vorite drink!”, “It’s AMAZINg!”, “ this is life changing!”, and more), I had to give it a go. And guess what? I enjoyed it.
While I wouldn’t recommend this beverage for the spice-averse or for the rosé purists out there, Jalapeño Rosé offers a wholly unique flavor experience that you won’t find else where in the world of wine. While the aroma and taste will differ based on your choice of rosé, you will likely find that the spiciness of the pepper adds an interesting earthy compo nent to the fruitiness of the wine. You’ll definitely feel some heat, and the longer the jalapeño sits in the wine, the hotter it will become. Try It for Yourself In her original video, Allyssa uses the Beach by Whispering Angel, a light rosé from Provence, France with bright fruit impressions and refreshing acidity. t his is a great choice, and I think any light, dry French rosé will do the trick. I tried La Petite Bete Rosé by Domaine Clo (Loire Valley, France; $13.99 on sale), and its vibrant notes of exotic fruit and citrus were an excellent match for the pepper’s spice and vegetal tones.Once you’ve selected your rosé, pour yourself a glass, and add some sliced jalapeño. I recommend adding one or two slices to start to ease yourself into the tasting experience (if you enjoy the spice, you can al ways add more!). Add a little ice to your glass for an additional cooling effect.I’dlove to hear your thoughts on this non-traditional pairing. New favorite summer beverage? Not for you? Or have you experimented with adding other vegetables, fruits, or herbs to your wine? By Sarah Fertsch Staff Writer W riter and Event Coor dinator steffen Klenk and I continued our quest to complete and review every mini golf course on the Ocean City Boardwalk. this past thursday, we played three courses: OC Adventure g olf, tee-time g olf, and Congo Falls Lost City. OC Adventure golf Our first stop was OC Adventure golf. this course is owned and oper ated by the OC Waterpark, formerly g illian’s Island Water Park. t he course winds through the waterpark and offers cool views of the slides and children’s splash zone. We played in the evening, after the waterpark closed, but steffen and I imagined how interesting our experience would have been if we had seen sliders climbing stairs and splashing around in inner tubes. OC Adventure golf unfortunately left much to be desired. Empty drink bottles, food containers, and even waterpark towels created unexpect ed obstacles along the greens. Crispy autumn leaves made walk ing between holes slippery. Random puddles combined with dirt forced us to hop from green to green. the first part of the course is in a cavern with poor lighting; so bad that we couldn’t see the hole we were putting toward. some highlights included multiple waterfalls and playful lawn flamingos. the course wasn’t crowded so we could play through each hole quickly. Each hole was pretty standard with no real obstacles, except for golf-course-style sand traps and stone pits. the course was simple enough that I got a couple holes-inone.ultimately, for around $10 per per son, this course isn’t worth the price. I would say that this course was one of the worst that we played. tee-time golf Our second stop was tee-time g olf. With its colorful and largerthan-life animals and retro feel, stef fen and I expected that this course would be goofy golf’s twin. We didn’t expect that this course would be one of our favorites, but it certainly was. When we entered the course (which only costs $5 per player), we were asked to leave our drinks outside, which shocked us in the mo ment, but when we saw how divinely clean the space was, we understood. We had never seen a Boardwalk property so clean. In fact, the course operator was vacuuming between customers.Eachhole had a different theme, and almost every hole had a moving component, such as the Flintstones’ prehistoric peddle car, challenging players to put the ball past the dan glingOtherfeet.holes included an old-fash ioned biplane with a moving propeller, an octopus spinning its tentacles in front of a hole, and a “golf school” with an opening and closing door. Lucy the Elephant guards hole 2, and later in the course, golfers can play pinball by putting into a chute and watching the ball get struck by slow-moving levers and poppers. unlike goofy golf and OC Adven ture golf, each hole was mathemat ically sound, meaning that if you hit the ball into a specific slot, the tube through which your ball would travel would directly lead to a perfect holein-one.the course was level and easily passed through, with yellow brick roads, guiding groups from hole to hole. Hole 19 gave golfers the oppor tunity to putt into the boot-shaped home of the Old Woman Who Lived in a shoe and win a free game. And if you didn’t win, the ball would travel up a windmill into a tube above your head, looping back into the entry. It wasLostawesome.CityForourthird round, steffen and I walked south down the Boardwalk back to Congo Falls, where we played their second course, Lost City. Multiple signs warned par ents that this course wasn’t kid-friendly and rated P g . the course would be entirely indoors and air-conditioned. I remembered playing this course when I was in mid dle school. My friends and I shrieked at all kinds of popscares and creepy decor. We braced ourselves as we descended stairs toward the first hole. the space was large and tribal-themed. Huge trees masked pillars and popout bats or heads on stakes. Compressed air would shoot out, making us jump with surprise. All in all, there were few scary elements, limited to a skeleton emerging from the bushes, shooting compressed air, another skeleton with illuminated eyes trapped under neath plexiglass, and a moving giant tribal head warning golfers to turn back.Besides the spooky elements, the course had tribal designs, mummies hung from the ceiling, and waterfalls with bridges nearby. Each hole was pretty similar to the next, but most golfers were distracted by the pop scares.Personally, I felt that the course could have been scarier, given the signage outside. t he holes could have had more variety of obstacles and thrills. It was a pretty easy course and served as an excellent cover for rain or bad weather, especially if you parent teenagers. the AfterResultsthenight was over, steffen and I debriefed our mini golf games. Our favorite by far was tee-time, potentially beating out seaport for our No. 1 pick. s eaport has great theming and really feels like our home, Ocean City, but tee-time is perfect for families, especially kids. Lost City wasn’t very memorable, but was good enough for a night on the Boardwalk. OC Adventure golf needs some restoration and with a little tLC, could be one of the top mini golf courses on the Boardwalk. stay tuned for next week’s edition of Mini g olf Review, where steffen will write on our final three courses: Haunted golf, Pirates of the golden galleon, and Congo Falls solomon’s Mine. For now, may you hit a hole-in-one wherever you choose to play!

As a senior, I attempt to fill my time with various projects and other obligations, but since our son, his wife and children recently relocated out of state, even more time is on our thands.hegreatest asset we have as humans is our mind, and if we can get out of our own way, we can use it to define our “purpose,” or at the very least if the word “purpose” is too restrictive, we can find our joy, happiness, and contentment.Weareextremely fortunate, in this infor mation age, that there is help literally at our fingertips. With a few clicks of the mouse, one can discover ways to ameliorate the feelings of loss of purpose and meaning. For example, a person can explore their creativity, change their routine, expand their horizons with new groups, people, volunteer ing or learning something new. they can lean into religion more, start a journal, chronicle important periods of their life or start the day with affirmations about what makes them feelWhatgrateful.isimportant here is that at least my father-in-law asked the question in the first place, and that is a healthy sign. It is a sign that he recognizes a need for change, and when that need is recognized, the mind becomes a fertile ground to embrace those changes. this transition may not follow a linear path, however. there may be ebbs and flows, gains and losses as well as a few course cor rections thrown in for good measure. My intention is to print out whatever ma terial from websites that I feel will aid him in his new journey, and then print out another copy for me.
In all of my years, I don’t think I’ve ever asked myself that question. It’s a question that I believe many seniors, especially wid owed seniors, may be faced with. But I never gave it any thought until he brought it up. I was working to buy a house, support my family, be a good father, husband, employee, etc. the concept of “purpose,” although it may have described my motivation, never really entered my mind. But as the obligations of going to work and raising children are no longer required, what replaces these obligations? Add to that the loss of a spouse, to whom one has perhaps the greatest responsibility, and the question of purpose becomes even more profound.

L ast December, my father-in-law lost his wife, my wife’s mother. she was a strong force in his life as well as in the lives of her entire family. Her absence created a huge vacuum, as you can imagine. My father-in-law came over to our home recently to have a conversation with my wife. My wife is the eldest child and also one who is given to deep philosophical and theological thinking, so it is no surprise that he came to her seeking her perspective.
I didn’t want to intrude on what I knew would be a deeply personal and sensitive discussion. While they sat on our porch, I stayed in the house to give them the privacy the occasion warranted, but not before I overheard a question he asked: “What is my purpose now?”

By Heidi Clayton have decided to commit to bringing a purebred puppy into life, the first step be finding a breeder. A google search of result in hundreds of How do know that you are dealing with a reputable breeder based off a a reputable breeder can take time, but with a bit of research, you can save yourself the heartbreak of getting a sick puppy or getting scammed.Hereare some tips to follow: A valuable resource for all things purebred dogs is the American Ken nel Club’s webpage, AKC.org. A detailed standard of each breed is available, along with links to clubs surrounding each breed. Don’t rush to the marketplace section of the site where anyone, including puppy mills, can post puppies for sale by paying a fee. I recommend finding a breeder that goes the extraEverymile.breed in the AKC has a club, and you can find those clubs via the AKC webpage. t he people in these clubs (like me) are fanatical about their breed, invested in the health, conforma tion, and welfare of the dogs. Clubs usually have a webpage with a list of member breeders and their contact information. Don’t be put o ff by someone who breeds show dogs or expect that you will have to show. Not every puppy in a litter will be a show dog, so don’t panic.getting a puppy from someone who wants to win at dog shows means there are generations of sound health and temperament on the ground and you get to see them. Ask if they are an AKC Breeder of Merit, which means they have bred multiple champions with a proven record of good dogs. Ask if you can visit them. Most breeders have more than one dog and you will get to see the whole family. A reputable breeder is willing to become a mentor who will guide you through raising your puppy and be available for questions or help. the most important requirement to look for in a breeder is that the parents of the puppy were health tested. sadly, I’ve met several golden retrievers purchased from “backyard” breeders who do zero health testing and who are breeding puppies with hip dysplasia or luxating patellas. Both of those conditions are genetic, painful, and often require expensive surgery. A reputable breeder will have made sure prior to breeding that the parents are free from genetic health issues and will happily provide you with all of those vet records upon re quest. Most breed clubs list on their webpages what health issues and tests are required when breeding. try going to a dog show where you will get a chance to see the dogs in action and talk with their breeders. Breeders love talking about their dogs and it’s a great chance to make a connection. A great show to visit is the Philadelphia Kennel Club Dog show, held every November in Oaks, Pa. this is called a “benched” show, which requires all of the dogs shown to remain on site and be available to the public. It’s also recorded for television. It will be held this year Nov. 19-20. It’s always well at tended and a great chance to meet beautiful dogs, connect with breeders and get their contact information. If you go, stop by and visit me and my bull terriers. they love to show off Next time we will focus on what to avoid when getting a purebred puppy. Please feel free to email fou ronthefloorschool@gmail.com with any questions.

That's Entertainment By Pete Thompson N ow I know that I’ve written a lot of these columns so far with a focus on movies and television, but let’s not forget a live concert now and then,Myright?girlfriend susan and I were for tunate enough to see Rod stewart at Hard Rock AC last weekend and he put on a phenomenal show for being 77-years-old. taking the stage and jumping into Robert Palmer’s 1985 hit “Addicted to Love” was a surprise for me, but it completely set the tone for what was going to be an upbeat and rocking show. We got all the hits, as Rod sang “You Wear it Well”, “ some guys Have All the Luck”, “Every Pic ture tells a story”, “Maggie May”, “Young turks” and “Do Ya think I’m sexy” in the opening set. And then he did something interesting. He turned it over to the backup singers to sing a cover of Blondie’s “Call Me”, which allowed him a break, and to change costumes. I thought that was brilliant. stewart came back out for an acoustic set, and that was a funny moment when he accidentally sat in the wrong chair, but was quickly corrected. In that sit-down acoustic set, they did “People g et Ready”, “ tonight’s the Night”, “You’re in My Heart”, and “Have I told You Lately”. then it was time for the final push, as the full band returned for three big ones. Again, during Donna summer’s “Hot stuff” stewart was able to make a costume change for his final outfit, and catch a break. then they ripped through “Hot Legs” and “ stay With Me”. Because of the pandemic, my girlfriend had been waiting to see this show for almost three years and stewart did not disappoint! Props to Hard Rock AC as well, as they contin ue to book the top names in music to appear at their property. since I started with Rod stewart, it’s an easy segue to talk about the David Bowie movie that’s coming out on september 16th called “Moonage Daydream”. Filmmaker Brett Mor gan has put together a 140 minute psychedelic audio and visual expedi tion that isn’t a documentary in the traditional sense. You could argue it’s not even a documentary at all, more like a long music video. But, I am extremely excited to go watch this (hopefully in IMAX at the tilton on 48 Definitely check out Moonage Daydream about David Bowie (in IMAX on 9-16-22)

square theater) because just think about all the characters and personas that David Bowie transformed into. Ziggy stardust, Aladdin s ane, Hal loween Jack, the thin White Duke, the soul Man, the Blind Prophet, and more. For all of the continually evolving personas that marked the various chapters of David Bowie, the truth remains that at his core, very few people knew the real Da vid Robert Jones. In fact, he openly stated that his fans – adoring teens who worshiped the musician as the embodiment of the living saint of a new age – had never actually seen the real him. And that’s how he preferred it. I’m hoping this documentary…er…film, lets me peek behind the curtain a little bit. No matter what, I’m completely down for two hours and 20 minutes of one of the most complex music stars ever! Again, the movie comes out septem ber 16th in IMAX. Moving on to the box office now, where Labor Day weekend is the last gasp for studios to get one final big push. this past weekend, the anime film “Dragon Ball super: super Hero” knocked out “Bullet train” from the top spot, and it wasn’t even close. “Dragon Ball s uper: s uper Hero” was released in 3,130 according to Rotten tomatoes and earned $20.1 million to win the top spot. the new film “Beast” was a disappointment with just over half of what “Dragon Ball super: super Hero” got. “Beast” earned $11.5 million. “Bullet train” came in third with just $8 million. “ top g un: Maverick”, meanwhile, continues its run towards $700 mil lion. the tom Cruise sequel is now at $683.3 million after making another $5.8 million last weekend. It’s also now the sixth highest-grossing film of all time domestically, passing “Aveng ers: Infinity War”. speaking of the MCu, “ thor: Love and thunder” brought its total up to $331.8 million. Next weekend it will pass spider-Man: Homecoming to become the 13th highest-grossing domestic film in the MCu, and that is where it will settle for now. Finally, according to Rotten to matoes, “Minions: the Rise of g ru”, will pass $350 million this week. In its eighth week, it is just $3.5 million behind where “ t he s ecret Life of Pets” was and made about $600,000 more than Pets did the same week end. It still has a shot to become Illumination’s highest-grossing film, but the likelihood of that continues to drop. the bigger deal is the jolt it has provided to the family market, with a total that may not be replicated with

Pete has been the local "sports guy" at the Jersey Shore since 2004. After a decade with TV 40, he joined 97.3 ESPN radio to talk Eagles, Phillies, Sixers & Flyers with Mike Gill on "The SportsBash" from 2-6 p.m. Pete is proud to be a "voice" for the annual ShopRite LPGA Classic each June, and does emcee work for groups like the National Football Foundation, The Old Grad Awards, and The 200 Club of Atlantic County. You can hear Pete each Tuesday and Friday on 97.3 ESPN at 5:00pm, and if you see him out & about in the community, he requests that you please say "Hi". Send comments to PBrooksT@aol.com all the remaining films aimed at them this year. It has grossed over $850 million globally. From the streaming services, I’ve been urged to watch “ u n told: the g irlfriend Who Didn't Exist” on Netflix. It’s a two-part documentary about former Manti te’o which details his ex periences being catfished while he was a senior and star football player at Notre Dame. since the show started streaming on Aug. 16th, te'o has been met with an outpouring of support from fans new and old, and on Aug. 20, he posted a public message of thanks on his Instagram, saying “I just want to come on here real quick, just to give a heartfelt thank you to everybody that has come through and has shown so much love to me and my family, for your messages, for your comments," he says in the video. "I'm trying to go through all of them, and it's been so amazing to me to hear the battles that we're all facing, the challenges that we're facing in our lives at this time, and how the documentary has given some of us hope, the extra push just to keep going." te'o was a senior at Notre Dame in 2013 when, he believed, his grand mother and his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, died on the same day. How ever, an investigation by sports blog Deadspin discovered that Kekua, who te'o had only interacted with online at the time, actually did not exist. subsequently, Naya tuiasosopo, who has since come out as a trans wom an, confessed to being the person behind the Lennay Kekua persona. Afterward, te'o — once a star athlete beloved by the nation — became the subject of extensive ridicule. I’ve been told by my radio col league Mike gill (and others) that this is a must watch, so it is on the list! Elsewhere, I discovered “Night sky” on Amazon Prime. Created by Holden Miller and Daniel C. Connolly for Amazon studios and Legendary television, “Night sky” stars sissy spacek and J. K. simmons as an el derly couple who possess a chamber leading to another planet. the pacing is a bit slow, but the acting is incredi ble. For that reason alone, I’m already through 4 of the eight episodes in s eason 1. s adly, I just discovered while researching the show for this column, that there won’t be a season two, so if you’re looking for a short series to watch, might I recommend thisFromone? “regular” t V, we still have to catch up with a bunch of the game shows, and now are adding to the total since Jimmy Fallon and Keke Palmer have brought “Password” back to NBC. I also still have to watch “My Life as a Rolling stone” but am definitely waiting until all four air. We finished “ the Captain” , the excellent EsPN program on Derek Jeter, and I made her watch episode two of “Hard Knocks” on HBO, which she enjoyed. Plus, big-time boxing returned to Atlantic City last weekend, and two local fighters shined in the ring.
Mixing with the Enemy
● I did see one encouraging tweet from John stolnis from @t he goodPhight as he wrote “In 1983, the Phillies went 1-11 vs. the Dodg ers in the regular season. they then beat them handily in four games in the '83 NLCs . In the play offs, anything can happen.” He also wrote “If you want to feel better about the Phillies, consider: the Phillies next 19 games are against teams with losing records. their next game against an opponent with a winning record will be on september 16.” If you’re looking for good Phillies tweets, follow him @Johnstolnis
● As I write this, the Phillies are coming off a 4-1 win over the Reds where Noah syndergaard went seven strong innings and only gave up three hits. Other Chris Matuson, Rick DeKarski, PT and Eric DeKarski at Mets-Phillies

By Pete Thompson S o, I decided to check out the Phillies at home against the Mets last saturday on August 20th. But, I’m getting a lot of flak from some folks because I chose to bring three MEts fans to the game with me!
Sports & Entertainment
the Mets have been leading the National League East for most of the season. the Phillies and Mets rivalry has been around since I was a kid, but especially heated up in 2007-2010 when the Phillies were having all their success.Iwillsay this, it turned out that the night game on August 20th was a give away of a Phillies sustainable cap from PgW to all fans and by bringing three Mets fans, I guaranteed myself four of those hats! In a four game weekend series, I also got lucky by seeing the only Phillies win. Hey, if you’re going to pay all that money for tickets, parking & food, you hope to see a win! since I last wrote, the Phillies did lose three out of four to the Mets, but now look to be in good shape as their schedule eases up consider ably. the Phillies are also poised to get their star player back very soon. But, it’s not all good news as two more bullpen arms are lost to injury. Meanwhile, the Eagles win preseason game #2 and look to be clicking on all cylinders as they head into their final preseason game in Miami. sixers fans can relax, as Kevin Durant has come out and said he’s not leaving Brook lyn. things are mostly quiet for the Flyers right now, but they are keeping their eyes on some prospects playing at the World Junior tournament in Canada. On the local front, the high school football season kicks off with a “festival atmosphere” for the “Battle at the Beach” event at Ocean City High s chool. You should definitely try to check some (or all) of that out.
● Let’s start things off with the Phillies, as after the weekend was over and the dust had settled, they finished the year a paltry 5-14 against the Mets. What’s more disturbing to me, is that Zack Wheeler & Aaron Nola went a combined 0-7 in the games they played against the Mets. If the season had ended yesterday, the Phillies would’ve been a playoff team, and a #6 seed facing #3 st. Louis. However, after that, they would face….the ME ts . What’s going to happen if your #1 and #2 pitchers can’t beat that team?

● It will probably help if they get Bryce Harper back in the lineup. Also, as I write this, Harper is scheduled to begin a rehab as signment at triple-A Lehigh Valley. He’s going to play with the Iron Pigs on tuesday through s atur day, take sunday off and hopefully rejoin the Phillies in Arizona next Monday 8-29.
Also, s eranthony Domínguez is going on the injured list with his triceps soreness. t he Phillies backdated Domínguez's IL place ment. so, if he spends the mini mum 15 days, he could return as soon as sept. 2nd. Let’s hope!
●
● In football, the Eagles won presea son game #2 in Cleveland 21-20 over the Browns. Mostly backups in this one, but instead of going vertical like they did against the Jets, the Birds came out running the football. It was cool to see Boston scott with 10 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown. Kenneth gainwell carried the ball 11 times
than s an Francisco, the Phillies have a stretch here where they are playing teams like Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Arizona and Miami who all have losing records. Let’s see some wins!
One final piece of Phillies news and that’s the fact that Major League Baseball announced that the Nationals will face the Phil lies in next year’s Little League showcase game in Williamsport, PA. the Phillies were last there in 2018 against the Mets. Rhys Hoskins is the only current mem ber of the Phillies who was on that 2018 roster.
t hat’s the good news. t he bad news is that relief pitcher Corey Knebel’s season is over. He has a tear in his right shoulder capsule. He’s going to texas for stem-cell treatment to try to avoid surgery.

● Finally, I want to give a “tip of the cap” to two local boxers who won in Atlantic City last weekend. Millville’s t homas “Cornflake” LaManna won the main event of the eight-bout Boardwalk Boxing: Rising star s eries card at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom inside Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. La
● s peaking of which, the Eagles are cutting down from 85 players to 80 as I write this. the big cut comes after preseason game #3 when they have to go from 80 to 53 on tuesday August 30th. Once those cuts are made, the league’s busiest waiver period begins. Most players who are released then go through waivers, and can be claimed by any of the other 31 NFL teams. Players who pass through waivers then become free agents. After the waiver period passes, teams can continue sign ing other players who got cut, as well as start building their practice squads (players must pass through waivers before being moved to the practice squad).
Deon Cain has several good catches for the Eagles at the Browns 164 St. James Place and Boardwalk, Atlantic City | (609) 344-9064 Delicous, Moderately Priced Food and a Cold Pint. Legendary Atmosphere, Indoors and Out.
● After a slow start to the tourna ment, Foerster has gotten red hot for Canada at just the right time. the big winger scored the opening goal against switzerland and fellow Flyers prospect Brian Zanetti, marking the third straight game with a goal for Foerster. In all, Foerster has three goals and five points in five games for tour nament favorite Canada, often dis playing his trademark heavy shot. the Barrie Colts product also has shown underrated playmaking skills, which often get overlooked because of his reputation as a goal scorer.

for 46 yards and a touchdown. the Eagles were up 14-zip after one, and I turned back to the Phillies, preferring to save the rest of the preseason game for the DVR and when I could watch it later.
● two players shined in the receiv ing corps as former Olympic hur dler Devon Allen used his speed to blow by the secondary and connect with Reid sinnett for a 55-yard touchdown catch. I’m not sure if Allen is going to make the team, but he certainly made his first NFL catch a memorable one. the other guy that stood out was Deon Cain, who led the team with 5 catches for 66 yards. Cain made several nice grabs along the side lines and certainly is making a case for staying on the 53-man roster.
● In hockey, the Flyers off-season moves didn’t exactly excite the fan base, but according to pub lished reports, there is a glimmer of hope with two prospects who are currently playing in the World Junior Championships in Canada. Emil Andrae and tyson Foerster are both playing leading roles for their teams at the World Juniors in Edmonton. Andrae, who is cap taining sweden at these World Juniors, has been as important to his team’s success as any player in the tournament. the 5-foot-9, 176-pound defenseman has been exceptional, leading sweden in scoring with four goals and eight points through five games and also playing solid hockey in his own end.
● this week, the Eagles are in Miami for joint practices with the Dol phins on Wednesday and thursday before playing their final presea son game on s aturday August 27th. the regular season begins on sunday september 11th as the Birds travel to Detroit for game One. t heir home opener is the following week as they host the VIkings on Monday Night Football at the Linc on Monday september 19th. ● Not much from the sixers and the NBA right now, other than the fact that Kevin Durant has come out and said that he is NOt leaving Brooklyn. the sixers were reportedly one of several teams that considered making a serious run at creating a trade package for Durant. t he Nets star, who formally made a trade request at the start of NBA free agency, has agreed to return to the Brooklyn Nets after a discussion with own ers Joe tsai and Clara Wu tsai, general manager sean Marks and coach steve Nash. Previously, Durant was determined to start the 2022-23 in a different desti nation, canvasing the league and considering the sixers, Phoenix suns, Miami Heat and Boston Celt ics. High-ranking members of the sixers were reportedly interested in Durant and felt strongly about engaging in talks to acquire him.

Manna (32-5-1, 13 KOs) won the main event with an eight-round unanimous decision over Mexico’s saul Roman (46-16, 38 KOs). the three judges scored the fight 7873, 77-74, 77-74. ● Meanwhile, Holy spirit graduate Justin “ t ime” Figueroa earned a first-round knockout to win his professional boxing debut. Figueroa (1-0), is a lifelong Atlantic City resident, on the Atlantic City Beach Patrol, as he threw some strong jabs and fast punches to make quick work of Ohio’s tavaris smith (0-6). that fight was over in 1 minute, 34 seconds, after which, Figueroa did “the worm” dance in celebration. I t was early morning of August 30th, 1964 and Atlantic City re gion was abuzz with the news. t he Beatles were coming to town.Word got out fast without t V news and before cell phones or social media. the source was from the band’s pro moter george A. Hamid Jr. announcing on the radio that the Beatles were coming to Atlantic City by bus and staying at the shelburne Hotel. this news got to the city fast and locals raced towards the hotel to welcome the band and see them in the flesh for the first time. What they had not known was that the Beatles arrived in secrecy right behind their backs. Just the night before, August 29th, the band took a helicopter from New York City to Bader Airfield. From the airfield they drove south to a Cape May hotel. Around 2:15 pm the next day the Beatles took a fish truck to the At lantic City. they arrived at the LaFayette on North Caro lina Avenue without incident and stayed there before their show. the entire seventh floor was given to the band. Word soon got out about where they were staying-which led fans to surround the building hoping to see the band. While staying at the hotel, John Lennon and Paul McCa rtney wrote the song Every Little thing, which appeared on the Beatles For s ale album at the end of 1964. During the filming of “ the Beatles Off the Record” McCartney was quoted in saying “John and I got this one written in Atlantic City during our last tour of the states. John does the gui tar riff for this one, and george is on acoustic. Ringo bashes some timpani drums for the big noises you hear.” Fans spent most of the day wait ing for the band to come out of their room. It was not until 6 pm that fans were alerted that the doors to the show were opening at 8:30. In the blink of an eye the line was wrapping

By Jerry Kanefsky T he National Association of Realtors Existing Home sales Report, which measures closings on existing homes, showed that sales were down 5.9% from June to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.81 million in July. Year over year, sales were down 20.2% from July 2021's 6.03 million. When we take a look at inventory, housing inventory is up slightly to 1.31 million units from last month's 1.26 million. t his is a seasonal increase in inventory that happens between spring and summer every year. Parents want their kids to start school at the beginning of the school year so they have to get their houses on the market. We are also starting to see the month over month uptick in inventory decrease and perhaps crest which usually happens around Au gust every year. In the previous report, inventory increased 10% month over month, but at the end of July the increase in inventory was 4.8%. Another aspect of inventory that is being overlooked is that even though there are 1.31 million existing homes in inventory, 563,000 are under contract. that's 43% of inventory already off the market! the actual number of ac tive listings or actual inventory is 747,000 homes! this also speaks to demand. In a normalized market about 25% of the inventory would be under contract! When we put all of this data together, we can see that it is still a strong housing market that has a lot of opportunity. Even though Existing Home sales did come in a little soft and we are certainly not in an inventory boom like the media has been reporting. It still speaks to the strength in home pricing and demand for homes. It's simple economics 101 of supply and demand. With inventory being so low and the demand being so high, that is why home prices continue to point higher. Jerry Kanefsky of Advisors Mortgage Group has been a loan officer since 1992. How does turkey compare to beef and chicken?
Divide
●
Nu trition By Nancy Adler P eople often go to turkey for a better alternative to beef. turkey is fairly comparable to chicken in nutrients but both its white and dark meat are slightly leaner. skinless boneless tur key breast is the leanest. there aren’t major nutritional dif ferences between ground turkey and beef. the nutrition panel for ground beef is very comparable. If you eat a serving of turkey that has 70 to 80 milligrams of cholesterol, you are getting about the same amount of cholesterol as a serving of most cuts of beef. I do believe turkey is the healthier choice because it has significantly less saturated fat and fewer calories than beef. turkey has a marginally higher protein content than chicken. turkey has 29 grams of protein per 100 gram a while chicken has 27 grams of protein per 100 grams. On average, turkey has fewer calories and slightly lower fat content. therefore, it is the poultry of choice for many bodybuilders. Beef contains creatine, which is important for the production and maintenance of your muscles, turkey contains tryptophan. Both turkey and beef are good choices for your daily protein intake. turkey gives you less cholesterol, beef gives you higher amounts of Processediron.meats have high amounts of salt, and most are high in saturated fats. When it comes to deli meats, turkey is better for you than salami because it doesn’t have saturated fat. But it still has a fair amount of saturated fat so it isn’t as heart-healthy as fresh sliced turkey breast. Like everything, balance and portion are the keys. enjoy my recipe from my cookbook “ Nancy’s Recipes for Life” available at my Linwood office location and Capellas Oil and vinegar store in Ocean City. lb. ground turkey ( 99% fat-free) 1/3 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs 4 tbsp. Y our heart is pounding. Your beautiful day on the beach is turning into a nightmare as you realize that your wedding ring is gone. You try to retrace your steps but it feels hopeless. Much of your path was in the surf and the tide is coming in. You’ve lost the irreplaceable. Do you search up and down the beach? Maybe you can call your friends to help search, except you’re down the shore on vacation and they’re back at home. You could run out and buy a metal detector except the nearest web hit for “metal detectors near me” is Dick’s sporting goods in Mays Landing. Even if you dropped $150 for a cheap one, do you really know how to use it? You’re feeling panicked. thankfully there is help for peo ple who find themselves in a missing jewelry crisis. It’s called Ring Finders southFoundedJersey.by John Favano, the expert detectorist and recovery specialist says has more than 200 successful recoveries and counting since he began using his hobby to help people a decade ago. “You lost it, I will find it,” Favano states on ringfinderssouthjersey. com. “Almost 10 years ago I decided to make metal detecting one of my hobbies. then I started doing recov eries to help people. “I started doing this because peo ple often approached me for help finding things while I was out metal detecting on the beaches,” he told shore Local. “It felt great help ing them get their lost and sentimental items back.” He said seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they are reunited with something they feared had been lost for ever brings him joy. Favano, 47, does metal detecting and jewelry re covery as a hobby. His day job is as a corporate chef, His website and social media are filled with stories of peo ple who lost, and with Favano’s help, found engagement rings, wedding rings, class rings and other items they feared they would never see again. Many a bride or bride-to-be cry the moment the successful recovery is revealed. He’srecovered rings in seemingly impossible conditions including snow, below 10 inches of beach sand, and in the ocean, day or night. If you lose a valuable item, the first thing you should do is mark the location. Look for a marker that can help you reference your location. If you are on the beach, don't move the sand around continuing to search for the lost item. Moving sand will make the ring get buried deeper, Favano said, making it harder to find. Whatever you do, don't post about it on social media. Your best bet is to call“PeopleJohn. reach out to me by phone, text, email and messenger-calling is always the best,” he told shore Local. “I ask several questions about how and where the item was lost to get as many details as possible to help me locate their lost ring, cell phone or

keys.”Rings get lost in different ways. they get taken off while applying sun screen, or fly off during an innocent game of catch with the kids or a quick romp in the surf. sometimes items are recovered in a few minutes, sometimes much longer.Favano grew up in Northeast Phil adelphia, resides in North Wilmington and spends his summers in North Wildwood.Heranges from greater Philadel phia and suburbs to southern New Jersey, Delaware, and the Atlantic and Cape May County shore. By Steffen Klenk P rior to the advent of com puter technology, forty years ago, Pete Zakroff was busy writing short stories about his encounters through life. During the pandemic, with little to do, he began putting his stories together. “I started with twenty-five, and I had a lot more to tell.” soon, twenty-five became fifty, and before he knew it, there were well over one hundred stories. that’s when Zakroff said “let me stop right now and publish the hundred.”Afew short months later, the Ocean City resident published his first book of memoirs, titled “101 tales of a Middle-Class Middle-Child.” the book looks at some of his life’s experiences told through humor and lessons. Zakroff grew up in Philadelphia’s West Oak Lane. As a young kid, he was inspired by the stories of Will Rogers and his common-sense ap proach to life. During his teenage years, he was influenced by several late comedians, from Dave Barry to the legendary george Carlin. Zakroff says it wasn’t just for his comedy, but his storytelling. “He could spin a story and make you laugh and blush at the sameFortime.”many years, Zakroff watched Andy Rooney’s wit and sense of humor on the CBs News Magazine show “60 Minutes.” It was upon pur suing a career in journalism at temple university that Pete learned that the best writers wrote about what they knew.Over the years, Zakroff has pub lished several “how-to” articles for various publications, focusing on specialized audiences in industry, business, labor and education. From writing sales presentations, tributes, and training presentations, he has done it all, with a total of over 1,000 presentations covering a wide range of topics.PeteZakroff’s magnificent skills came to the test when he pitched an episode of “ the twilight Zone” to the show’s creator Rod sterling. A few weeks later, he received a letter back from Hollywood, and while his idea was not used, he was given a personalized photo of sterling and a note of encouragement to continue writing. “I didn’t know about agents at that time, but it was an idea that I had,” Zakroff says. More than 60 years later, Zakroff assembled some of his own life ex periences and self-published his first book of memoirs in september 2020. the book comprises of 101 anacdot al stories beginning from Zakroff’s childhood up to retirement. His recent memoir, “Another 101 tales of a Middle-Class Middle-Child”, is an extension of the series. With more life stories and adventures, Zak roff adds to the events that shifted his life, from living and raising a family in south Jersey, to experiencing life in south Carolina, and settling in Ocean City.Chapter 6 of the book is dedicated entirely to Ocean City. Zakroff recalls the many places, now just memories, including Booker’s and Dairy Queen, along with popular establishments such as Kessel’s Corner at 28th and Asbury. Details of humorous experi ences and the many friends he has made in America’s g reatest Family Resort are included in this memoir. Each chapter includes illustra tions that emulate old family photos, carefully created thanks to the help of his daughter, Laura Zakroff. Each illustration is striking to the eye and acts as a pictorial tribute to Pete’s interest in photography. A graduate of the Rhode Island s chool of De sign, she has self-published nearly a dozen books and has received critical acclaim and honors for her creative talents.Zakroff’s latest memoir is a great mix of humor and nostalgia, providing readers a small trip down memory lane. “Another 101 tales of a Mid dle-Class Middle-Child is available for purchase on Amazon, with additional copies available at the Ocean City Library. Steffen Klenk is a multimedia journalist. He resides in Ocean City and enjoys capturing the eclectic moments of shore life.

Peggy did leave one spell intact that everyone, even to this day, can thank her for. the Pine Barrens were once known for the wonderful crops of cucumbers they produced and led to many a fine jar of pick les being put up by “Pineys” for years and years. One year, during a particularly hot summer, many folks, while picking their cucumbers, became wracked in pain from the leg and foot cramps they suffered at night from picking all day in the hot Jersey sun, and processing the crop into jars of pickles. sleep was impossible, and folks were unable to continue with their work due to tiredness and leg cramps.
"S he sure were a witchitty one, was that Peggy Clev enger" is how a whole lot of conversations were started down through the years when the sub ject of Peggy Clevenger came up. Peggy was a known sorceress, shapeshifter, and all-around spell-casting witch who was known to live in and around the Pasadena area of the Pine Barrens, not all that far from Chatsworth, back in the mid 1800’s. Witnesses were fond of telling stories that had her changing into a rabbit as well as a lizard, and for showing dragon flies how to sew the lips of sleeping children together as they slept in the night.

Another one of Peggy's 'talents', as it were, and one that was useful and actual ly got her what little acceptance she had with the "regulars" that lived in the Pines, was her ability to fix broken fruit jars.
At one o'clock sunday afternoon, or, as it's known in the military, thirteen hundred hours, you would carefully dig up the dirt from the hole to find, magically, a com pletely whole and repaired fruit jar, save for any slight imperfections resulting from any tiny missing pieces or slivers of glass, pre-burial, and, incredibly, the number “13” was actually engraved on the bottom of the jar. these fruit jars, with the number thirteen engraved on the bottom, are now highly collectable by antique ware enthu siasts and jar collectors, and are, in some collector's circles, known as "Witch jars", or "Clevenger jars", not to be confused, however, with Clevenger g lass Works products. Many of Peggy's 'fixed' jars have been destroyed over the years. Folks that made moonshine in the Pines would never use a 'thirteen' jar because they thought them unlucky and would cause a visit by "the rev-nooers", leading to a blown-up still and a trip to jail. Others destroyed the "Witch jars" because Peggy, they said, was in league with the very Devil himself, what with her shape-shifting and other evil goings-ons that surrounded Peggy and her presences in the Pines.
Peggy heard of the cramp maladies being suffered by her fellow peoples of the Pines, and came up with one of her best secret spells: For the muscles that ball up And scream out in pain Quench with thy sour-y brine And sleep quiet again. to this very day, anyone who has suf fered leg cramps in the night, or in the day for that matter, knows that a couple swallows of pickle juice will relieve even the worst case of leg cramps in about ninety seconds, all thanks to a secret spell cast so many years ago in the Pine Barrens by none other than Peggy Clevenger, the “Witchitty Witch of the Pines”!

Fruit jars, even though they were made at many glasshouses in the Pine Barrens, were expensive, and folks hated throwing them away after they accidentally cracked or smashed them to pieces. so, for a bit of food or a promised future favor to be done, Peggy would repair broken glass jars with a very special process and spell. First, you’d have to make sure you had all of the pieces gathered together and take them to Peggy's cabin in the woods. then, you’d dig a hole thirteen inches deep in her back yard at midnight on a saturday night as Peggy held a lantern so you could see and put the pieces and the lid into the hole. then you'd cover the hole back up and stand aside with your eyes closed. Peggy would then stand on the filled-in hole and say the following spell with her arms outstretched in the night: “Now in this dark hole lies this jar, Where all its broken pieces are. Past twelve plus one more hour seen, A brand-new jar with scar 13.”

I ’ve never been thin, necessarily. there have been times in my life where I was athletic and mid-sized, but I’ve never had a thigh gap or only one chin. My bas ketball coach would pull me into her office and tell me that I'd play so much better if I dropped 20 pounds. After a devastating knee and ankle injury, I lost my motivation and my muscles. I gained a little more than I’d like. After moving home from college, I was given an opportunity to get my fitness back. I started listening to podcasts on wellness and joined a Crossfit gym. My progress is slow but steady, and I am proud to say that I am moving in the right direction. I know that lots of people feel overwhelmed by starting a fitness journey. Well, here is my advice as someone who doesn’t have a sports Illustrated body. From unfit person to unfit person trying to better their quality of life, here are my tips for improving your strength and stamina: Choose to be uncomfortable and persist I joined a Crossfit gym almost a month ago, weighing double what the average athlete did lifting weights beside me. I didn’t look like a Crossfitter, and even when I wanted to run away and eat an entire bag of chips, I chose to stay. When my peers were sprinting laps outside around the parking lot, I jogged from one storm drain to the next. When the workout prescribed pull-ups, I did rows with rings. When everyone else kept moving, I was on the ground, sweaty and panting like a dog. And yet, I came back day after day, confident that I will one day do that pull-up or race around the build ing. Not being the best but enduring makes you a winner, no matter your fitness level. Choose to look clueless, exhausted or weak. Be realistic to motivate myself, I watched re runs of the NBC show, “ the Biggest Loser.” I cringed as I watched coaches verbally abuse participants and force them to exercise for over six hours per day. s ome contestants lost 37 pounds in one week! Rapid weight loss risks weight regain and puts stress on the body. to make fitness sustainable, strive to lose 2-4 pounds per week and exercise 3-5 days per week. If you are craving something sweet, have only one instead of an entire box. Moderation leads to longterm success. Find a cheerleader. No one can succeed alone. My mom and I bond over health and wellness goals, congratulating each other on choosing balanced meals or moving the needle on the scale. At my Crossfit gym, the group cheers on ev ery person, no matter how slow they are moving. the app in which we log scores allows athletes to comment or like each other’s results. If you are starting a fitness journey, consider posting about your progress on social media or partnering with your spouse or friend to keep accountable to ex ercise and eat well. Do what you love. No part of life should be dreadful, well, maybe except taxes. Exercise comes in a variety of forms, from surfing to kayaking to rugby to pi lates. Ask yourself, “What means of movement will make me smile?” If you played sports in high school, join an adult league. If you love anime or video games, try cos play. Even taking your dog for a walk around the block will boost your metabolism and improve your cardiovascular system. Con sistency is key, though, so make sure that your strategy works for multiple days per week. Set yourself up for success. For some people, this looks like meal-prepping for the entire week. For me, I like to pick out my gym outfit the night before everyday. the fashion compo nent makes me feel creative and drives me to “show off my look” to my peers during our workout. I make sure to do my laundry regularly so I always have options for mixing and matching. Consider deleting unhealthy delivery apps, buying new sneakers, always taking the stairs instead of an eleva tor, and stretching before exercise to promote joint health and flexibility. How can your higher brain set your self up for success? Do it for you, not for anyone else. In the end, only you will benefit from positive changes to your health. You may want to please your partner or garner compliments from your co workers, but when they fail to notice, choose to be enough for yourself. set aside some time to consider your “why.” For me, I want to fit more comfortably in roller coasters (which I love), be able to go for a long hike with a group of friends, and get rid of my sleep apnea. I also wanna do a pull-up for the first time in my life. And by choosing to lean in and make time for yourself, you can get there and reach your goals. Just watch me.

Personally, I was infused with a sense of hope that everything wouldn’t be burnt to a crisp. this break from the relentless heat and the revival of plants renewed my own enthusiasm to keep moving ahead. Late summer is a good time to analyze issues that have cropped up, but also to enjoy some of the treats of August. As we savor the last few weeks of summer (though it hurts me to say that out loud), we see some interesting things hap pening and should be aware of the tasks at hand. When temperatures were holding in the 90s, some plants went into survival mode. You may have noticed a decline in the amount of flowers blooming, while other plants bolt ed and went to seed. But in August, cooler temperatures bring some surprises to the garden. Your tomatoes and other vegetables that seemed stuck on pause will perk up and give it another go, and flowers that were almost forgotten begin to rebloom. In my own garden, it’s like a mini spring. My New Dawn roses that give me such joy in early spring are making a cameo appearance, offering a few late summer blooms. Meanwhile, late season flowers that have been waiting in the wings have started to bloom. My false sunflowers have finally opened as well as Rose of sharon, while pure white gardenias bask in the sun and garden phlox finishes strong. Chrysanthemums, that I should have trimmed back, are showing the colors of fall. It’s like a happy collision of all the seasons of bloom. But some plants haven’t fared so well. As we recover from recent heat waves, it’s a good time to take an analysis of the garden. You may see brown leaves and stems that have succumbed to the heat. In most cas es, it would be best to remove these damaged parts from the plant. Removing the bad parts will help the plant focus its energy on good leaves and roots. As you trim, you may notice fresh healthy leaves hiding under tired, brown, bugchewed leaves. Keep an eye on plants that have suffered from the heat, as weakened plants will be more susceptible to diseases and “bad bug” infestations. Continue to keep your plants well-watered since hot weather can still be an issue this time of year. You want everything to grow as healthy as possible before winter sets in. In addition to doing damage control, assess what worked and didn’t work. If a favorite flower got scorched, perhaps it should have been planted in an area with more Beautiful flowers from the garden of Andrew and Sam Fagerman in Ventnor. 72 August 25, 2022

shade. You may also consider a differ ent variety that is more heat tolerant. On the positive side, what worked really well and why? Every season is different with many variables, but lessons can be learned with each success and failure. Looking ahead to the following season, take cuttings of cold-sensitive plants like coleus. taking cuttings can give you more of a good thing and the small plants will be more manageable indoors through the winter. For perennials that you want to multiply, divide and take cut tings now so that the roots have time to become established before winter. though deadheading flowers is a good way to promote blooms and keep things neat and tidy, this time of year you’ll want to allow some of your flowers to go to seed. Left alone, some plants will freely self-sow and their seeds will benefit from the cold temperatures that winter provides to soften their hard outer shell for the following spring. You can also collect seeds to save for planting indoors when you’re ready. Just leave some for birds and other wildlife. One of my favorite gardening moments comes from watching goldfinches pluck the thistle-like seeds of purple coneflowers. Observing the vibrant yellow and black birds balancing on the purple-pink coneflowers will help you forget about your troubles for a while.Another way to appreciate August is to enjoy our gallery of gardening pictures from our readers. “I am having a terrible day. Every thing that could go wrong has gone wrong. I haven’t been able to catch a wave, even though I have worked so hard, because I am too scared. the other surfers made fun of me. I feel worthless. I am discouraged, and my heart is so heavy.” Annabella replied, as she dropped her chin once again and began to weep. Waverly’s heart felt heavy for the girl. she reached into her satchel and pulled out two pieces of treasure from her collection. she closed her eyes, sprinkled some sand, and kissed the treasures. “Open your hand” she said to Annabella, drawing nearer to her.Annabella opened her hand and Waverly began to place each treasure in her palm, one at a time. “Annabella, I have collected these magical trea sures from the depths of the sea. they are full of power, so you must keep them safe, and they only work on those with a true Mermaid Heart.
The Legend of The Jersey Shore Mermaid

By Christina Sciarretta A ccording to Jersey shore folklore, magical mermaid treasures are hidden in the sands of the south Jersey shore beaches, meant to be found by young girls with true mermaid hearts. Local surfers report having seen glimpses of the shimmering mermaid tail, playing with the dol phins along the coast on every south Jersey Beach. this is the story of that mermaid.Along long time ago, a beautiful shimmering mermaid, named Waver ly lived at the depths of the sea off of the Atlantic City Coast. Waverly would swim up and down the coast of the south Jersey shore, from Brigan tine to Cape May, collecting magical sea glass and unique shells and stones from the bottom of the ocean floor, dreaming of one day getting to speak to a human girl. she was fascinated with humans- how they moved about on the beaches on their legs, dancing and jumping and running. One day, as Waverly was collect ing her treasures in the sea, she came upon a young surfer girl weeping on the jetty. Waverly knew that she was not allowed to speak to humans, but she had dreamt of this moment for so oh, long. she tried to keep swim ming, but something in her heart was pulling her back. she swam in circles trying to talk herself out of speaking to the little girl, but her heart was so broken for her. At last, she decided to follow her heart. “Maybe this is my chance to fi nally meet a human girl!” she thought. she clutched her satchel of treasures and swam up to the jetty. the surfer girl, who’s name was Annabella, was startled when she saw Waverly, but Waverly quickly reached her hand out to Annabella to show her that she meant her no harm. Annabella crept closer to the edge of the jetty and sat down slowly, mesmerized by the magical beauty of the shimmering mermaid.
“Little surfer girl, I could not help but overhear your weeping. tell me why you are so sad.” Waverly asked, propping her arms up onto the jetty.

Can you promise me that if I give these treasures to you, that you will keep them safe?” Waverly asked. Annabella lifted her eyes and gazed at the magical treasures in amazement. she nodded sheepishly. Waverly placed a piece of smooth sea glass into Annabella’s palm. “ t his one,” Waverly said with a smile, “will give you courage. A true mermaid is always courageous. Nothing can scare you if you have this magical piece of treasure. I bet this will give you the courage you need to catch that wave.” she placed a smooth stone in her palm next. “ this stone will give you the power to achieve your wildest dreams. I know this is true, because for my whole life, I’ve dreamt of talking to a human girl. Every time I’d find a magical sea stone like this, I’d pray that I would get the chance to talk to a human girl one day. With this magic stone, my dream has finally come true. I get to talk with you! And now, I am giving it to you. With this magic stone, you will ride the largest, scariest waves in the world and you will show those surfers that you have true mermaid power.” Annabella wiped her tears. Her lips began to form a smile. Waverly began searching in her satchel. “Ah ha!” she exclaimed, “ I have found the most magical treasure of all, and I am giving this to you as well.” s he drew a magnificent shell from her satchel, sprinkled a bit of glittering sand, and kissed the little shell. “ this treasure”, she said, “will give you a kind heart. this is the most important treasure of all, Annabella. A kind heart is very difficult to have sometimes, especially when others aren’t kind to you, but for those who have a kind heart, come incredible blessings. these are the three trea sures that every mermaid must have: courage to face any fear that comes your way, the ability and willingness to chase and live out your dreams, and a super kind heart that always turns around and swims back to love theAnnabellabroken-hearted.”looked down at the three treasures in her hand and then looked back at Waverly with tears welling up in her eyes again, except this time, they were tears of joy. “ thank you Waverly. I don’t know what I did to deserve these beau tiful treasures, but I promise you I will keep them forever. With these treasures, I am getting back into the water and I will take that wave. You
