As the owner of the Leeds Tribune since September 2018,
I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the people who make Leeds such a caring and impactful community, which includes many of this year’s graduates. Senior Night awards ceremony highlights successes of the Leeds High School Class of 2019 Leeds High School seniors were recognized for a variety of accomplishments and awards during the annual Senior Awards Ceremony on May 19 at LHS auditorium. arships to attend four-year and two-year colleges and universities in and out of state for academics and sports. Representatives from colleges, including Jacksonville State University, Auburn University and Jefferson State College, were in attendance
to present scholarships to the seniors. Local businesses and organizations also presented scholarships, including Millennial Bank for its first time, the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce and Lady BUGS program.
Leeds High School students received $2.2 million in scholarships for 2019. Teachers and administrators named the top students in each subject, from history to English, science and math. Leeds native and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley

wasn’t present, but the size of his donations for scholarships was apparent. About 20 students received scholarships through his endowment, which is renewable, meaning the students can apply each year to receive another installment.
Seniors with the career technical fields were recognized for completion to become electricians. Two seniors will be joining the military after graduation and were recognized for the money they will receive to attend college after service.
AP Calculus teacher Kyeong Cox gave her students trophies for their dedication in the class.
Julia Jones, left, and Ben Davis, right, were named top students for grades and good character.
