His 1957 Porsche Cabriolet will be on exhibit at the First Thursday celebration tonight in downtown Leeds. “I always wanted one of these cars,” Stegall said. “Finally, after my kids grew up, I got one. It has been a real joy. And now it will be on exhibit this week. I’m pretty excited.” A collaboration of the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce and the Redevelopment Authority has led to the First Thursday Street Fest on the Parkway that is Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

The next two First Thursdays are May 2 and June 6. Leeds First Thursday Street Fest is a family friendly celebration of local businesses and the growing downtown district. “This is a great way to enjoy the city’s historic downtown charm with activities for the entire family,” Stephanie Corwin with the Leeds Redevelopment Authority said. Leeds residents and visitors are invited to come downtown to spend time with friends and family while supporting the local community. The event will include a Porsche night sponsored by Eurasian Auto Services. There will be a racing Porsche, Stegall’s vintage 1957

Porsche and many more. May 2 will be Corvette Cruise night. “Local businesses downtown will be open for shopping and there will be serious deals for shoppers,” Corwin said. “Make sure to stop by your favorite stores or visit a new one, including Mum & Me Mercantile, Pants Store and LA Salon & Boutique.” Restaurants will also be open like the Three Earred Rabbit, as well as food trucks. Arts and craft vendors, live music and street entertainment are included. “We would love for you to support our small businesses and experience our vibrant and growing downtown,” Corwin said.

Wintzell’s Oyster House opens to big crowds BY KARIM SHAMSI-BASHA Leeds Tribune Staff As big as the restaurant is, the wait was about 45 minutes on the first night Wintzell’s Oyster House opened last week. The restaurant famous for seafood specials has nine locations in Alabama, including downtown Mobile, West Mobile, Saraland, Cahaba Heights, Greenville, Montgomery, Guntersville, Fultondale and now Leeds. Wintzell’s is the second sitdown restaurant to open in Leeds in the last two months. Three Earred Rabbit opened its second area location in downtown Leeds in late February. Wintzell’s restaurant dates back 80 years and has stood the test of time because of its seafood options, Manager Frank Hall said. “We sell a lot of fried seafood, shrimp and oysters. We have a tremendous steak that's very well received, a 14-ounce ribeye hand cut,” manager Frank Hall said. “Our biggest seller is the oysters. We sell a ton of those, and the fried green

The restaurant seats 200.

Hall said it's usually just small tweaks. “We might do some seasonal things with desserts and

appetizers. But you know, we've got a pretty strong core that many people just love,” Hall said.
