Vote. Vote. Vote . Your vote counts. Tell everyone you know to vote. This time next week the United States will be on a new path, regardless of the outcome of the election. I feel that much is on pause until after November 3rd. I don’t know how you are feeling - but right now, “I Can’t Breathe.” I no longer wonder why Hitler was able to do what he did and had so many blindly following. He separated children from their families and kept people in cages, much the way we are doing so today. I say “we” because we all know what is going on at the borders. Hitler had no empathy for lives lost. So many just sat by and let him continue to spread his message of hate. Too many embraced his messages. The Jewish community said, “never again.” However, here we are and I am mostly dumfounded by his Jewish supporters. I know I built this publication on “Good News You Can Use.” I am hopeful next week we can get back on that path. I am hopeful we will have the leadership we need to get through this Pandemic without losing so many more lives. I am hopeful there are more in America with integrity, consideration and common sense who will come out and be counted and show the world who we truly are.

We are entering a new “norm” – God help us all.

PONDER THIS! Just Do the Right Thing - VOTE

f there are four words that should pierce the heart and open one’s conscience, they are DO THE RIGHT THING. Perhaps if those four words were not so heavily associated with the ever-popular movie Do the Right Thing written by Spike Lee in 1989, it could have become a mantra of action for this present time, thirty-one

years later.

It is 2020 and we are still asking and begging people to vote. There is information available highlighting the great and grave historical efforts put forth by people of color in their fight for the right to vote and to be counted as citizens of these united states. Can we just do the right thing – VOTE. The presidential campaign is over, the presumptive nominees are set. The ballots have been printed and are ready to go. What more is there to do, but VOTE. And yet, the numbers show there are many still undecided. Are they waiting for a slip of the tongue from either candidate that will tip them over the bar? Pay attention people, all that needs to be said

has already been noted.

It has been written that on September 2, 1858, in a debate, Abraham Lincoln supposedly made one of his most famous statements: “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”

I receive it and I believe it. Donald Trump has preached his silly sermons to his own heart’s delight without any reckoning that he is revealing his true nature for all the world to witness. We never needed a light to see through him, because he has always angled his own light clearly on himself and it has become a beacon of spinning misconceptions and misin-

formation that cannot be denied by rationally thinking people. Yet, this man whose leadership has failed time and again continues to think he can fool the people who know him well and hoodwink those who are still on the fence.

On Saturday, October 24th, New York began nine days of early voting in a presidential election for the first time in history. I chose to make my way to my community’s early voting site on the first day to do my duty by any means necessary.

Yes, it takes perseverance, patience, but most of all determination to get the deed done. I carried a small folding stool suitable for momentary resting on the slow-moving line that

circled three times around 4 blocks before entering the designated high school gym.

Five hours later my ballot was validated, and my heart was delighted. I was proud to sport my “I Voted Early” sticker. I hope you will get to stepping to the poll as soon as you can.

THE NEW YORK LANDMARKS CONSERVANCY AWARDS EIGHT SACRED SITES GRANTS TO HISTORIC RELIGIOUS PROPERTIES THROUGHOUT NEW YORK STATE Mother A.M.E. Zion Church in Harlem Receives Sacred Sites Grant

T

he New York Landmarks Conservancy has announced eight Sacred Sites Grants totaling $140,000 awarded to historic religious properties throughout New York State, including $30,000 to Mother A.M.E. Zion Church in Harlem to help fund slate roof repairs.

Established in 1796, the Mother A.M.E. Zion Church is New York City’s first black congregation and the denominational center for the A.M.E. Zion Church.

In the 1800’s it was known as the “Freedom Church” for its role in the abolition movement. The current sanctuary dates from 1925 and was designed by one

of America’s first registered black architects, George Washington Foster, Jr. The congregation has a rich history of religious and social activism, reaching about 7,000 people a year through activities such as the Frederick Douglass Continuum, an annual series of performances, talks, and readings interpreting African-American history; meetings and programs of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the nation’s oldest African-American sorority; and meetings and programs of the National Action Network, the Civil Rights organization founded by Rev.

Al Sharpton. There are dance programs, concerts, educational enrichment, and homeless services offered throughout the year.

“We’re delighted our grants can help maintain these important institutions during this difficult time,” said Peg Breen, President, The New York Landmarks Conservancy.

“Throughout the pandemic, they have continued feeding and recovery programs, as well as health and cultural offerings to their communities.”

er father survived Jim Crow and saw the evolution of the vote in America, so Lex Scott speaks from a unique perspective when she champions African Americans’ historical significance casting their ballots.

“When my father voted, his life was at risk,” remarked Scott, the president of the Black Lives Matter Utah Chapter.

“Black people were also filled with many obstacles that prevented them from voting.

Some had to be landowners; some had to be sponsored by white personnel,” Scott recalled.

“Some had to pay fees.

Some were tested. Many people died for that right. It is too important for us not to vote, and if we want to have a democracy, we need to participate in it. We can’t hope that situations will change. We have to be active in helping candidates get elected who will create that change.”

The fight for African Americans’ right to vote dates back to the late 1800s.

Freed Blacks in New York briefly held the right to vote before the Civil War, and there were similar instances in other Northern states.

“African American men were given the right to vote with the passage of the 15th amendment in 1870 as one of the Reconstruction Amendments after the Civil War, Brianna Mack, an assistant professor of politics and gov-

ernment at Ohio Wesleyan University, wrote in an email to BlackPressUSA. “The Reconstruction era ended in 1877 with President Rutherford B. Hayes explicitly ending federal oversight of Southern states to fund public schools, establish charitable institutions, raise taxes, and fund public improvements to incorporate newly freed Blacks into the fabric of daily life as citizens and equal participants in America,” Mack noted.

During Reconstruction, the Black vote’s influence materialized as African Americans won election to local, state, and national offices.

“Black men won election to state legislatures and Congress indicating an impending drastic social change,” Mack added.

“Starting in 1868, we see white supremacist groups, precursors to the Ku Klux Klan, use violence to suppress the Black vote, and fraud was rampant. Many congressional elections in the South were contested,” she continued.

“Such tactics were used because white political leaders quickly realized that African Americans are independent political beings whose participation in elections can upset the ‘balance’ that previously existed without their involvement. These political leaders could not appeal to Black people and/or Black people were not responsive to their appeals because their appeals were rooted in the subjugation of the

racial group i.e. for the foreseeable future, southern Democrats would/could not count on Black support.”

President Lyndon Johnson signed the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which reinforced the 15th amendment of nearly a century earlier. The Voting Rights Act outlawed discriminatory voting practices and effectively provided African Americans the right to cast ballots freely.

Despite the 1965 law, Blacks were still denied the right to vote.

In some cases, by violence and in many instances through suppression and misinformation tactics.

One year after the Voting Rights Act, civil rights activist James Meredith was shot and wounded during a voter registration march between Tennessee and Mississippi.

Undaunted, 4,000 African Americans registered to vote in Mississippi the day after the shooting as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Stokely Carmichael joined the march.

Suppression efforts have continued, and, in 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court eliminated the federal government’s ability to block states’ voting restrictions.

In doing so, the high court effectively struck down a significant part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which has led to restrictive laws that have primar-

ily affected African American voters.

“In a general sense, the power of the vote is absolutely critical to the creation and maintenance of an equal society, and that’s why ruling classes fought the concept of universal suffrage for so many years in Europe and the U.S.,” remarked Amber Dozier, the managing partner, and chief strategy officer of the ABCD & Company, a Rockville, Maryland-based marketing firm.

“In the case of African-Americans, voting is even more important because the laws of this nation have been historically designed in a way that leads to the de facto economic, cultural/social, and political subjugation or African-Americans,” Dozier added.

“The Constitution, a document that framed the legal and political essence of America, declared the African-Americans were three-fifths of a White person – all for the purpose of amassing political power through the vote.”

She concluded: “This demonstrates that the Black vote has power and has always been a commodity to those in power, even when we were deprived of that right.

Voting gives citizens, the power to shape the laws that govern their lives. In a sociopolitical climate where there is vehement debate over the appropriateness of saying ‘Black lives matter.’ African-Americans must vote because our lives and the sanctity with which they are treated depends on it.”

Housing Instability and COVID-19: New Help is on the Way (Statepoint)

T

he economic downturn caused by the pandemic has created widespread housing insecurity for both renters and homeowners.

However, advocates say that free and low-cost legal assistance and other support is helping people remain in their homes.

“The economic challenges caused by COVID-19 are putting a spotlight on the most vulnerable communities, which have been disproportionately affected by job losses, under-employment and housing instability,” says Eileen Fitzgerald, head of Housing Affordability Philanthropy with the Wells Fargo Foundation.

By the end of the year, up to 40 million U.S. renters may face eviction, according to re-

search from the Aspen Institute and the COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project. Black and Hispanic tenants represent 80 percent of those potentially facing eviction nationwide.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an eviction moratorium until the end of the year, tenants must still be proactive. Here are steps you can take to protect yourself, according to the National Housing Law Project: • Contact your landlord. As soon as you know you won’t be able to make a rent payment, contact your landlord.

• Gather documentation.

Retain all correspondence and receipts from your landlord.

Be sure to document phone calls and in-person conversations.

• Know assistance is available. Seek out community

services offering rental relief, food and health care. Visit www.Legalfaq.org to learn more about services available in your community.

• Seek legal assistance. An estimated 90 percent of landlords have legal representation, while only 10 percent of tenants do, according to Harvard researchers. This creates a glaring equity gap, as legal representation can make you more likely to avoid eviction.

Look into services providing free legal assistance and submit your declaration. The CDC moratorium requires tenants to file a federal declaration form to be eligible for the eviction protection.

What’s Being Done Fortunately, large-scale, multifaceted efforts are already underway to address the nationwide housing affordability crisis. As part of

its $175 million response to COVID-19, the Wells Fargo Foundation has provided over 1,200 grants to nonprofits, including funding grants to provide legal assistance for renters at risk for eviction.

Grants from the Foundation will allow 15 organizations that work to keep people and families housed through services and advocacy efforts to

expand their services.

Housing insecurity is an issue in communities beyond urban centers. According to Partners for Rural Transformation, of the 395 counties with persistent poverty in the U.S., eight out of 10 are rural and the majority of people living in them are people of color.

In response, the Wells Fargo Foundation has made grants

to community development financial institutions to help keep people housed in rural communities.

These efforts are part of the Wells Fargo Foundation’s $1 billion philanthropic commitment to address housing affordability solutions by 2025, which includes investing in strategies to advance housing stability, increase the supply of affordable homes and expand homeownership opportunities for people of color. FILM: Black Voices Are Loud and Clear at New York Film Festival

he lineup at the 2020 New York Film Festival (NYFF) included an impressive array of African diaspora films and the festival’s usual collection of international motion pictures.

Attesting to NYFF’s eagerness to hear black voices, the fest featured three main slate films from British director/writer Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave’’) that are part of a five-episode West Indian community-based mini-series “Small Axe.’’ McQueen’s homage to his Caribbean roots will appear on Prime Video later this year. Other NYFF entries will roll out in theaters, VOD and on streaming service – in months to come.

To understand the gravity of the problem, reflect on the findings of directors Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés and 2018 Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. How can an art form that is so dependent upon live performance survive when gathering in an indoor venue could harm/kill the audience? How would the nonprofit institutions and commerical theatre entities deal with the unmasking of deep racism by Black theatermakers who were profoundly affected by the murder of George Floyd? Where are we eight months into a new way of life? Theatrical content has moved online. New organizations that advocate for Black theatermakers have come

Black theater institutions have become bigger, bolder voices and places of import for the communities they serve.

• Communicate: Open a line of dialogue with your child about what they are experiencing, but be patient. Your child may be reticent to share everything going on with you at first. If your child is the one doing the bullying, work on identifying their motivations, so you can better address the root of the issue, and of course, continue to serve as a positive role model when it comes to expressing empathy and kindness

toward others.

• Keep kids active: When remote class time is not in session, it’s important to place an emphasis on spending quality time offline. Encourage kids to be physically active outdoors in order to raise levels of mood-boosting hormones and promote better sleep at night (something that may be suffering more these days as a result of additional blue light from screens).

If possible, arrange for socially distanced meet-ups with close friends, such as bike rides. Get kids involved in positive hobbies like reading, playing an instrument or art.

• Manage screen time: As parents know, actually managing screen time can be tricky. Kids are not always upfront about what they are doing online and

there are many hours a day where it’s simply impossible to monitor your child. However, new tools are proving essential in helping parents protect kids from the harmful effects of cyberbullying.

Walker says this is just the beginning of how she plans to leverage BCGA to di-

versify both the pro-competitive gaming and corporations in the industry.

“Gaming is a $159B industry and 73 percent (73%) of African Americans ages 13 years or older identify themselves as gamers. Yet, only 3 percent of those working in the gaming industry are Black and a mere 1 percent are professional gamers.

Those numbers just don’t add up,” said Keshia Walker, founder and chairman, of BCGA. “There is a huge opportunity to diversify the gaming industry to be more reflective of its customer base while exposing young people to promising career opportunities. BCGA is

here to open doors and literally change the game of gaming.”

BCGA will launch its programming next month with “Military Play,” an online three-day esports and gaming virtual tournament.

Players will compete in Madden 21, Rocket League and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The Veterans Day weekend competition will honor all those who serve and have served in the military. Winners will receive cash and prizes.

Further, BCGA will make history this spring by hosting the first ever multi-city “Black College Con” and “Women Got Game” summits. “Black College Con” is scheduled

to kick off in Atlanta and take place during HBCU conference tournaments in February and March; while “Women Got Game” will take place in March during Women’s History Month.

Both innovative conferences will be centered around: dialogue relevant to Blacks and women of color in the gaming industry; esports competitions; and connecting Black and female college students of color with multicultural industry leaders for advice, mentoring, education, internships and career opportunities in gaming and esports.

How COVID-19 Has Changed the Way We Do Business Forever (Statepoint)

he COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed how business gets done.

And when it comes to midsized and small businesses, the importance of investing in new technology, facilitating remote work and maintaining a tech-savvy workforce has never been so clear, according to a new survey.

Conducted by The Harris Poll for CIT Group Inc., a leading national bank focused on empowering businesses and personal savers, the survey of leaders of U.S. middle-market and small businesses is designed to illuminate the intersection of technology and talent.

Compared to last year’s survey, significantly more leaders today believe con-

tinuous technological investment is a business requirement.

“The resiliency and flexibility that technology can deliver businesses has been convincingly proven

by COVID-19,” says David Harnisch, president of CIT’s Commercial Finance division. “Business leaders have taken that lesson to heart and are focused on making technology a fundamental part of their ‘to-

morrow thinking’.”

Most executives surveyed wish that they’d invested even more in technology over the past 12 months. In fact, more than three in four middle market executives believe investments in technology would have helped their company fare better during the pandemic. For small businesses, roughly half felt similarly.

However, there’s little

question how important technology will be going forward, with the majority of respondents saying it’s crucial to future success.

Seemingly determined not to repeat the mistake of under-investing, the majority plan to invest as much or more in their business over the next 12 months as compared to the past year.

Only 15% of small businesses say they may invest less this coming year, likely due to financial constraints resulting from the pandemic.

“Small businesses don’t always have the financial resources that larger enterprises often enjoy,” says Ken Martin, managing director of CIT’s Small Business Solutions group.

“When investments are imperative, borrowing or leasing may be the right

solution to acquiring the technology needed to remain competitive.”

When it comes to these upgrades, investments that make it easier for employees to work remotely are a clear priority. Over the next 12 months, 71% of middle market executives and 31% of small business leaders who plan to invest will spend on technology that facilitates remote work.

“It’s not just a matter of convenience. Businesses that empower employees to work remotely have a clear competitive advantage,” says Denise Menelly, CIT's executive vice president and head of Technology and Operations.

This is a trend that’s likely here to stay. Approximately a quarter of small businesses operating remotely expect -- and want

-- these changes to remain permanent after COVID-19 subsides, and about 40% of middle market executives expect the same, with some seeing it as a means to grow the company.

However, this digital transformation puts a premium on a tech-savvy workforce able to support customers and collaborate with colleagues remotely.

While many believe their current workforce has the skills to keep up, businesses are also substantially more likely than last year to say companies need to focus on hiring tech-savvy talent.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has created a great deal of uncertainty for small and midsized businesses, it has in many ways clarified what’s needed to remain successful in an evolving world.

“I’m really excited to be in business at this time.

It’s been very challenging, but also rewarding,” said Rosebud.

In the past this event has been a gathering of about 200 women at the Alhambra Ballroom. The event planned for March 19th was cancelled due to the Pandemic. The event was planned to be held at Alhambra on october 15th, however, since we are still

in the midst of COVID-19 and still need to social distance, the virtual event was planned. Pat continues

to communicate with the women weekly through her newsletter and recently started a Zoom meeting

NYPACE Helps African-American-Owned Businesses

I

a package which entailed e subscriptions, mail subscriptions, advertising and donations from those who wanted to make a contribution.

My 25th Advertising campaign was successful and provided me with revenue to help with several weeks of expenses. The campaign also prompted previous advertisers to alert me they planned to return upon the city reopening so we began to plan for that.

This was my second round with NYPACE. I sought out their assistance in 2018 when I was trying to recover from cancer treatment and surgery in 2017 where my sales had gone down substantially.

In 2018 they upgraded my media kit and helped me to focus on social media where I was able to successful develop another stream of revenue from

website advertising. As a matter of fact, with their help 2019 was my best year yet and first year that I had shown a profit.

NYPACE has also helped a couple of other African-American women-owned businesses in Harlem that I am aware of – The Brownstone and Sudsy Waters/ Mia Bathhouse.

Recently I was featured in Crain’s magazine about my experience with NYPACE. NYPACE also invited me to participate in their annual fundraising Gala which happened earlier this month on October 19th. As part of the program I interviewed 3 board members of NYPACE and asked why they were involved in the organization.

n March 2020 when New York businesses were closed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, I panicked as much as I believe most business owners. I lost more than $100,000 in future business contracts as my advertisers such as Macy’s Department store, Colleges, Theaters, major events cancelled their orders and plans. Since I have 4 of the 5 risks factors for COVID-19, I planned to stay in and wear my mask and gloves if I had to go out for essentials. My main concern was being safe.

Media was considered an essential business. After a couple of weeks I saw a steady flow of advertising coming from the New York City and New York State Dept of Health with safety measures. The Census also continued their ad plan, since we still needed to fill out the forms and there was a deadline that was not changing. I thanked God for this steady stream of business but I still needed more help to continue to publish weekly.

NYPACE offered me the opportunity to get assistance from a couple of volunteer consultants from their organization. I eagerly accepted the offer.

The team of 3 consultants spent 6 weeks speaking to me about my concerns and need for financial assistance. I had mentioned that I had been in business for 25 years. With the information about my upcoming 25th Anniversary they helped me to plan a 25th Anniversary campaign to be held in my August 20th issue. They recommended

Amid COVID-19 Pandemic, Stop the Spread of Flu (Statepoint)

A

mid the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, with hospitals and health care workers already overburdened, medical experts say it’s more important than ever to slow the spread of the flu. In a typical year, the flu causes tens of millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations, and tens of thousands of deaths in the U.S. That is why the Ad Council, the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the CDC Foundation have launched a new campaign, “No One Has Time for Flu.” As part of the campaign, Dr. Susan R. Bailey, M.D., president of the AMA, is sharing important insights about flu vaccination: • Flu vaccines are safe: The

flu vaccine is a safe, effective step that physicians and public health experts recommend to protect patients and their loved ones from getting sick with influenza. This year, doctor’s offices and pharmacies are taking steps to ensure vaccines can be provided safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The CDC recommends that each year everyone 6 months and older (with rare exceptions) get a flu vaccine early in the season, preferably by the end of October, before flu is spreading widely.

• Getting one is important this year: Because you can get flu and COVID-19 at the same time, it’s especially important for people with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of serious complications -- and their caregivers -- to get their flu shot. At the community level, the potential impact of

a bad flu season during the COVID-19 pandemic could be devastating. Getting a flu shot will help keep others healthy and help make sure health care workers and hospitals have the resources to continue to treat COVID-19 patients.

• Flu protection is especially urgent for people of color: Due to longstanding health care inequities, Black and Latinx/Hispanic people are disproportionately affected by underlying conditions which can cause both COVID-19

and flu complications. This results in much greater rates of flu-related hospitalizations.

Indeed, a new CDC analysis of 10 flu seasons showed that Black people were hospitalized at a rate twice as high as White people.

Black and LatinX/Hispanic communities are also less likely to get vaccinated due to a range of barriers. CDC data shows that in the 201920 flu season, Latinx/Hispanic adults had the lowest flu vaccination coverage (38.3 percent), with non-Hispanic Black adults next lowest (41.2 percent).

• Getting vaccinated is easy: Vaccines are often free or offered at very low cost. CBD Use and the Elderly

t is highly likely that 2021 will see the full Legalization of Cannabis use in the United States. Senator Kamala D. Harris committed to doing so during her debate with Vice President Michael R. Pence. The Trump administration legalized the farming of hemp and the use of hemp based cannabis products such as CBD oils on December 20th 2018 under the United States Agriculture Improve-

ment.

I believe the current COVID-19 health crisis has been a motivating factor in the cannabis legalization discussions in both State and Federal governmental bodies.

Medical and scientific studies have proven the effectiveness of cannabis use in individuals of all ages.

The villainization of marijuana for profit, was the foundation of the unjust federal marijuana laws. The current federal marijuana laws can no longer overshadow the many health benefits that can be addressed from cannabis use. Health issues that have been amplified because of COVID-19 especially for the elderly. Studies now show that seniors can benefit greatly by using hemp products such as CBD oils.

Recent studies show that the proportion of adults 65 and older using marijuana and hemp based cannabis products has doubled over the past five years. This is not surprising since many of these seniors are baby boomers who are learning that cannabis use has many more benefits then getting high.

Many studies have focused on the health benefits of CBD product use during the current COVID health pandemic the following I feel are the most important especially for the elderly. CBD use can alleviate many of the symptoms caused by insomnia and the anxiety caused by sleepless nights.

CBD us can assist with pain management studies have showed that health issues such as rheumatic pain

caused by arthritis and inflammation pain caused by sciatica can be naturally addressed by using CBD products.

Depression and Anxiety has been a major issue for everyone but in most cases the elderly suffer disproportionately for many reasons. Studies have shown that CBD use can provide mood-regulating effects that can help treat depression. There are ongoing studies that are showing CBD use can also be beneficial in treating OCD and PSTD. Research has shown that CBD use may slow down the cognitive decline associated with Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Studies have shown that CBD use can alleviate many of the conditions caused by harmful side effects of medications and help combat de-

pendency.

Marijuana use can be an effective therapy for those suffering from the side effects of Chemotherapy such as vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite and depression. Cancer patients were one of the first groups to experiment with the use of medical marijuana.

CBD use can help promote bone health. Osteoporosis develops due to a loss of vital minerals in the bones of the elderly making them fragile and brittle. Therefore, the bones in the elderly or more prone to breaking and fractures. Studies have shown that CBD use can help strengthen bones and promote the healing process of fractures.

There is still a great deal of education needed to reverse the misunderstanding of hemp and marijuana for both the medical community and the public. On Friday November 20th, the Onuwon Well-

The title and focus of the November forum is “The Clinical” State: Alternative Progression; Resurrecting Normality. The Clinical State virtual cannabis education forum will focus on four areas Chronic Care, Geri Active Care, Mental Health and Regenerative Care.

While the information given by experts on the medical use of Cannabis will be useful to people of all ages, it will focus on elderly use of CBD products to improve the quality of their lives.

Hide your eyes, move your hands, and BOO! These days, though, it’s a different kind of game with different rules. In “Heroes Wear Masks: Elmo’s Super Adventure” by Lillian Jane, pictures by Ernie Kwiat, there’s no BOO! to it.

The minute Elmo woke up this morning, he was “super excited... and super nervous!”

He put his hands over his tummy and took a

slow, deep breath. Today was the day he went to school and there was lots to remember!

He washed up and ate a good breakfast while Mommy let Elmo know what might happen at school. He might have his temperature taken, but it won’t hurt.

He’ll need to wear his mask, to keep his mouth and nose covered. He’ll want to remember not to touch his mouth or eyes or nose after he’s washed up. And he’ll have to stay a safe distance from his friends in school and on the playground.

Elmo doesn’t have to wear his mask at home while he plays inside.

He wears it whenever

he goes anywhere else, though. He wears his mask in school, on the bus, walking around, on the playground, in gym class, and at the grocery store. And he won’t be alone when he does it: Elmo’s classmates will be wearing masks.
