ayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray kicked off a music and cultural exchange between Harlem and Cuba’s capital, Havana, which has been crafted by the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce.

arlier this month, this nation has experienced three acts of needless and excruciatingly painful violence. On Tuesday night, officers killed Alton Sterling on the streets of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after confronting him for selling CD’s in front of a convenience store, wrestling him to the ground, and restraining his hands. Wednesday night on Facebook Live, we saw a member of the Minneapolis police force brutally shoot Philando Castile in front of his girlfriend and her four-year old daughter during a routine traffic stop. And then on Thursday night, a crazed and angry gunman ambushed police officers during a peaceful demonstration in Dallas -- a shooting that resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries. Today we remember Officers Michael Smith, Michael Krol, Patrick Zamarippa, Brent Thompson, and Lorne Ahrens.

The tragedy of all of this is that valuable lives were snuffed out, and families’

hearts are broken because their loved ones have been taken from them. There are mothers, fathers, siblings, spouses, girlfriends and children who are devastated, despairing, and weeping this morning, and their tears demand that we join them in wailing for the blood of their loved ones--blood that now mingles with the blood of Martin Luther King Jr., Clymenta Pinckney, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Shantel Davis, Sean Bell, Amadou Diallo, Sandra Bland, Walter Scott, and Officer Wenjian Liu. We all long for the day that America’s streets be safe again, and when violence will not be the American way. We long for the day when people of color will not have to fear officers because officers fear or hate us. We long for the day that mothers and fathers are not afraid to see their children go out the door, knowing that their child may well be a victim of drive-by shootings, gang violence, or police guns.

Today we pray for the Sterling and Castile families. We pray for the families of the slain Dallas officers.

And we yet pray for the families of Michael Brown, Aiyana Stanley-Jones, Samuel Dubose, Officer Raphael Ramos, and Officer Randolph Holder. We pray for the countless mothers who have had to bury sons and daughters because guns were in the hands of those who had murder in their hearts, and we pray for fathers who shed tears daily because they never imagined that they would have to bury a child. We pray that black on black and blue on black murders will cease, and we pray that police officers everywhere protect and be protected. We come against the spirit of violence that blacks first experienced at the hands of slave owners, and continue to experience daily in America. We decree that we will not be the perpetuators of violence against each other, innocent people, or ourselves.

We are weary of the killing, the injustice and the

hatred, but we will not be weary in well doing. We will continually cry out to the Sovereign God for protection for all people, and for the love and peace of God to obliterate the racism, hatred, and inhumane treatment of all people that is so pervasive in this world. And because we have faith in God-the God who brought Israel out of bondage, the God who brought us out of slavery, the God who released the people of South Africa out of the clutches of Apartheid, and the God who raised Jesus from the dead, we will continue to call upon that name. And we will pray until times get better, until justice and equality is our reality, and until The Kingdom of God has come. And because we are God’s people who are called by God’s name, we shall continually humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face, and turn from evil, knowing that only God can heal this land. “Heal the Land, Lord, Heal the Land.”

ome great home buying opportunities still exist in Harlem, especially in the area of Housing Development Fund Corporation Cooperatives (HDFC) coop units. However, most of these units required a 20% down payment. Therein is the problem for most prospective first time buyers. They do not have all of the money required for the down payment.

They have not been able to adequately save enough money for the down payment because of their monthly rent and other living expenses.

The majority of these units are designed for the low to moderate income buyer. But there is a catch involved with this purchase making it extremely difficult to complete. If, your annual

income exceeds the limit usually 80-120% of the area median income (AMI) you make too much money and are ineligible to purchase the unit. On the other hand, if you meet the income limit, you do not have the money saved for the down payment.

Most first time buyers with income below 80% AMI are eligible for the Home First Down Payment Assistance grant program through New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).

But there are still some additional requirements that must be met in order to apply for this grant: (1) be a first time home buyer; (2) buy in New York City; (3) complete the home buyer education workshop. HCCI is an authorized housing counseling

Harlem’s Own Keith Sweat On New Music, Staying Relevant & Advice To Young Artists

eith Sweat is marking his nearly three decades in the music industry with a new album.

The Harlem native, who was raised in the Grant Houses on West 125th Street, will drop “Dress To Impress” July 22 - coincidentally his birthday. The new record, his 12th studio album, will feature appearances by R&B groups Silk and Dru Hill.

The Harlem News spoke to the Grammy award about his new music, his Harlem stomping grounds, and his advice to artists coming up in the industry.

Harlem News: Tell us about the new album. What

do you want fans to take away from it?

KS: Even though I haven’t put out an album in a while, I’m just trying to just

put out good R&B music. I want to put songs out that just last longer than a day.

Normally the songs that I write, people go back to

them years later. Whenever I do an album I try to do a great album.

Harlem News: How did you come up with your new single, “Good Love?”

KS: I wanted to create a song that was a Keith Sweat type of song. With the music and the narrative, I basically tried to make a type of song that I people wouldn’t stray away from what I’ve done musically, but had that Keith Sweat vibe to it.

Harlem News: Not many artists these days have enjoyed the kind of

career longevity that you have enjoyed. What is your secret to staying relevant?

KS: (Laughs) I think my secret for staying relevant is knowing what my niche is and staying true to that.

I think I gave people the same as when I first came out - or close to it - and I try to swing away from something that I know works and I think it’ll keep me relevant and it’d keep my core fans that I’ve had there. So what I try to do is not try to go into a whole ’nother world that I’m not accustomed to.

Just stay in the world that I know best. And if you’ve always been a Keith Sweat fan, then you’re not going to stay away from that, because I’m giving you something very similar to what I’ve done before.

Harlem News: What are some of your memories from growing up in Harlem?

KS: Just walking down the streets of Harlem, looking at the Apollo. And (hoping) one day to be perform-

ing in there, in the Apollo. I used to do that quite often, walk down the streets of Harlem. I grew up at 430 West 125th Street, Grant Projects. So, growing up around all of that, that’s where music actually came from. That’s there everybody would go for entertainment. For me, those are my memories.

Harlem News: What are some of your favorite places in Harlem today?

KS: It was Sylvia’s, walking up and down 125th Street. It was Denny Moe’s barbershop. That’s what I love to do, get my hair cut and everything.

Harlem News: What would be your advice to upcoming artists?

KS: Take it seriously.

Don’t try to do what everybody else is doing. If you try to do what everybody else is doing, you don’t become your own person. You don’t stand out. Find our own niche. What created my legacy was that I found my own niche.

utting for a Cure, a 501(c) (3) not-forprofit organization held their flagship event of the year, Cutting for a Cure, a 48Hour health fair and haircutting Marathon over the weekend. The event provides free haircuts, free medical screenings and wellness seminars, along with live entertainment and special guests.

The event kicked off at Denny Moe’s Superstar Barbershop located at 2496 Frederick Douglass Blvd (between 133rd and 134th streets) in Harlem on Friday morning.

“I walk through the community and I see a lot of us are in pain. We are in pain so long to a point that it is no longer pain, it’s a way of life…I decided to use my barbershop as a platform,” adding “there is

nothing wrong with stepping up to the plate and I have a platform.”

He was also motivated by the death of his father, who passed form cancer, but didn’t want to have the charity be solely for cancer. “The reason

why we do a 48-hour marathon is because I watched how (cancer) ravaged his body nonstop. It didn’t take a break.”

Denny Moe is thrilled to be making an impact on the community, and some mem-

bers of the Harlem community share their thanks with him. “He came to me and said “man you saved my life!”” he said of a man who got tested and was immediately taken to the hospital for a life-threatening ailment. Denny Moe has

not one, but two great mottos that came up in our interview, “saving lives one hair cut at a time” and “don’t wait to you get it, act like you have it.”

“We did this a few years ago and we think that it is such a great benefit for the community to bring out all these healthcare vendors to educate the community,” adding that it lets residents know what options they have. “People don’t know what they have available in their own the community, they don’t have to travel all over the place,” he said.

he Blue Room at City Hall was filled with young, high power energy on Tuesday, July 12th when First Lady Chirlane McCray and Azadeh Khalili, Commissioner on Gender Equity, hosted the first-ever Malala Yousafzai Leadership Award Ceremony, to honor local young women who have overcome challenges and grown into leaders in gender equity.

The First Lady introduced the award reminding who Malala Yousafzai is: a 15 year-old young girl who defied the Taliban in Pakistan demanding that girls be allowed to receive an education. She was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in 2012, but survived and in 2014 became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner.

anhattan Borough President Gayle Brewer, New York State Senator and Congress hopeful Adriano Espaillat, Assemblyman Herman D. Farrell, Jr., and Assemblyman and Esplanade Gardens’ own Keith L.T. Wright, along with Prestige Management staff members, including Ernestine Temple, Jeannette Washington, Horace Henry, and Arlyane McGlashan, joined hundreds of Esplanade Gardens residents and their guests for its annual Family Day on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

Residents and their guests were treated to complimentary hot dogs, cheeseburgers, popcorn, water and soda while listening to the sounds of a local DJ. Children were able to ride horses (YES there were two horses in Harlem), play in a giant inflatable bounce house, both of which had lines that were at least a dozen people deep, and much more. There was even a dance contest featuring kids of all ages, and the adults even got into the mix as well. Threatening skies and a brief downpour appeared to interrupt the festivities, but the sun came back out and didn’t keep the residents from enjoying the rest of the event.

Assemblyman Farrell discussed what the event means to Esplanade and Harlem in general. “It’s bringing back the people, over the years, the people who have grown up here and come back, it’s a nice thing. And it brings friends together. The summer In Harlem is wonderful because you’ve got people

from all over the city and the state coming back and talking to guys.”

State Senator Espaillat joked about the symmetry between his name and the residence he was in. “I look forward to working with you, I look forward to working with all of you.

My name is hard to pronounce but I think you can pronounce it because if you can say Esplanade you can say Espaillat, Right,” he said to laughter from the residents.

Continuing, Espaillat looked forward to the future after his big primary win. “I

hopefully will be your Congressional member this January…I hope to be a fighter for you, work with you to together to make sure that we tackle the issues that are important to all of us.

I’ll leave it at that because my Mom taught me never to get between a party and a meal.”

Harlem News exclusively spoke to the future congressman about his historic victory. “The District gave me the opportunity to follow in Congressman Rangel’s footsteps and be able to hopefully live up to his legacy and fill his shoes.

He also talked about the leadership that Esplanade needs from Congress.

Housing is a great challenge for everybody but I think Esplanade is a great example of when it’s done right. So how do you keep it going to make sure it stays this way, is the challenge,” he said.

Esplanade Gardens, which opened in 1968, is a six-building complex, each with 26 floors, located between 145th and 148th north and south, and Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.

From the joyous smiles on the faces on those in attendance, from those who just began walking to the elders, a good time was had by all. Prestige Management does a great job of entertaining the community as a way of saying thank you with their Family Day at Esplanade Gardens.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem Selected to Participate in Landmark Million-Person Precision Medicine Study

YC Health + Hospitals/Harlem announced the hospital has been selected among four medical centers in New York City that will be part of a nearly $4 million national (NIH) study in support of President Obama’s Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI)—a large-scale research effort to extend personalized medicine to a variety of human diseases. The award is estimated to total $46.5 million over five years, pending progress reviews and available funds. The aim of the prestigious study is to engage a million people in a significant research effort to improve the nation’s ability to prevent and treat disease

based on individual differences in lifestyle, environment, and genetics. Harlem Hospital will partner with Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC), Weill Cornell Medicine and New York-Presbyterian to ensure participants in the research represent the geographic, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic diversity of the country. On a local level, the goal is to enroll 150,000 culturally diverse volunteers/participants by 2021.

“The ‘participant-powered’ research that will result from our partnership with CUMC promises to help transform the way we achieve our mission to deliver equitable and

culturally responsive care to the city’s most vulnerable populations,” said Dr. Ram Raju, President and CEO, NYC Health + Hospitals. “Our collaboration with CUMC also underscores the critical role that the public hospital system plays in medical education and cutting edge research to benefit the communities we serve.”

“Using our credibility capital with the community and patients alike, we will leverage our relationships to engage, educate and invite participation into this landmark study,” said Ebone M. Carrington, MPA, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. “This important scientific inves-

Hospitals/Harlem one of the Principal Investigators selected for the NIH grant. “We hope that our participation will ensure that all communities that are affected by illness are included in this important effort.”

According to the NIH news announcement, the PMI Cohort Program is one of the most ambitious research projects in history and will set the foundation for new ways of engaging people in research. PMI volunteers will be asked to contribute a wide range of health, environment and lifestyle information. They will also be invited to answer questions about their health history and status,

share their genomic and other biological information through simple blood and urine tests and grant access to their clinical data from electronic health records. In addition, mobile health devices and apps will provide lifestyle data and environmental exposures in real time. All of this will be accomplished with essential privacy and security safeguards. As partners in the research, participants will have ongoing input into study design and implementation, as well as access to a wide range of their individual and aggregated study results. (And How To Get Around It) • College Specific Books: Colleges have started asking students to buy college specific books. They take a commonly used textbook and have it printed with the college name and course number on the cover.

This gives the book a new ISBN (International Standard Book Number) that is typically only available at the college it was made for.

The workaround: Ask the professor if it’s OK to use the book’s common version. “The common version will be available online and, in almost all cases, be much cheaper and apart from the cover, it’ll be the exact same.

When you rent or buy it online, you’ll be able to rent or buy it used from anybody,” Manns says.

• Book Bundling: Students are sometimes required to buy a “book bundle” with extra class materials that add to the cost. “These bundles often include items the professors aren’t even using,” Manns says.

The workaround: Email the professor or wait until the class starts and ask if the professor will be using the supplemental material. “If the answer is no, then buy just the textbook online,” Manns says.

• New Editions: “This problem has been around a long time,” Manns says.

Publishers release new versions of books every few years, even though little changes. Usually, buying an older edition gives you the

information you need. Older editions often cost less than $25.

• eTextbooks: eTextbooks are usually more expensive than buying a book used or renting it, and they typically expire after six months or a year.

The workaround: Shop around. Most eTextbooks are available from multiple sellers. If you have the option, go old-school and buy the hard cover or paperback, which will typically be much cheaper. “That way you can keep it if you want, or you can sell it later,” he says.

• Timing: Sometimes students don’t learn what textbooks they need until a couple of weeks before classes start, giving them little time to shop around.

The workaround: Don’t worry too much about getting your books before classes start. If you don’t mind a little inconvenience, then wait until you’re a couple of days into the school year before buying. “The professor might even tell you that you don’t need the book,” Manns says. If it’s required, you can shop online and still have the book within a couple of days.

Now all she has left to do is hit the college bookstore with her list of required textbooks. Don’t be surprised if she comes out crying.

A recent study by the United States Government Accountability office showed that the average prices for textbooks have risen 82 percent in just 10 years.

Many expected that internet access would help bring costs down, but the college textbook industry appears to be keeping students from saving money by using such tactics as college specific books, book bundling and eTextbooks, all of which raise prices.

Luckily there is something you can do about it.

You just need to do a little homework before classes start. “There are many ways you can save when buying textbooks that the college textbook industry doesn’t want you to know about,” says Chris Manns of the price comparison websites CheapestTextbooks.com and TextbookRentals.com. Both free services help students locate the cheapest prices for millions of books.

Physical Therapy

hysical Therapy also known as Physiotherapy (PT) is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialty that remediates impairments to promote mobility and function in patients. A physical therapist will design a program of physical treatment to meet the special needs of the patient. I was first introduced to physical Therapy during my two month stay at The Amsterdam House rehab facility.

Brijesh Patel was the therapist that worked with me. If you follow my articles (www.theartof-

warogers.info) I wrote about my strange accident that resulted with me having thigh to ankle cast on both legs and a boot on my right foot which had four fractured toes. Neither my doctors nor my PT therapist had seen a case quite like mine. Brijesh had to be very creative to develop a physical treatment program due to the uniqueness of my injuries.

It was hard and at times painful work, but my basic condition improved.

Brijesh often told me that the real hard work would begin when I got home. I did not understand him until the boot and casts were

removed, after 42 days, I finally got discharged from the rehab facility. Learning to walk again turned my home into an obstacle course not to mention walking around the block.

My next physical therapist was Sang Yun an inhouse PT who designed a plan to help me get around the house and around the corner. After learning how to get around Sang gave me a discharge and recommended an outpatient PT facility. One sound piece of advice that Sang gave me that I would like to pass on is “try to make sure your outpatient PT facility is as close to home as possi-

ble”. Lucky for me the Park North Physical Therapy facility was one block away from my house.

’ll say it one more time, summer is here . . . Yippee!

That means that it is time to take a much needed break before summer ends and the end of the rest of the year begins.

Whether you decide to get away for a weekend, a week or three months; unless you plan to stay home you can look forward to packing a suitcase with everything you will need to be reasonable comfortable and fashionable while on holiday. Did you say that you seem to take everything but the kitchen sink?

That won’t work in these days of airport security measures and check in procedures. As a seasoned traveler, I take great pride in—never checking luggage and always traveling with one carry on and a small tote, regardless of the length of my stay. Ask my former colleagues at Essence!

Whenever we traveled for sales meetings or on business in general . . . everyone else would arrive at the airport laden down with more luggage and stuff then was really needed! While they spent a lot of time standing in line to check bags, I went straight to the gate, had coffee and read the morning paper! After arrival I went straight to the car and checked into the hotel . . . my colleagues were still waiting in baggage claim. Packing light just makes sense.

Most people make the mistake of trying to take too much.

Whether you are traveling on business or vacation . . . chances are that you will never see those people again; so why worry about having a completely different outfit for each day?

Get creative by expanding your traveling wardrobe’s accessories instead of taking your entire closet.

But why take it from me?

Here are a few packing tips from Samsonite™ that you might want to keep in mind while packing for your holiday: Know the airline’s carry on limits to be sure that your bag will fit overhead. Nothing is worse than being forced to check your carry on because it exceeds allowable dimensions.

Be sure to check the weather conditions and pack accordingly.

wrinkle easily to avoid having to iron or dry clean while traveling. If you must, check to see if the hotel offers laundry services.

Eliminate packing unnecessary items like bulky robes and toiletries that are provided by the hotel.

Utilize every inch of space.

Pack your underwear, socks and accessories inside your shoes; this will also help shoes

keep their shape.

Store essential items in a removable laundry bag, toiletry kit and shoe bag for an even more organized suitcase. Leave non-essentials at home.

I have another rule that I adhere to: Whatever doesn’t fit in the bag . . . stays behind.

So far, I have not ever regretted leaving anything, in fact; traveling light gives me more time to enjoy my trip. When the excursion comes to an end, unpacking is a breeze! Pack and go . . . it’s easy. Think about it.

Spiritually Speaking: Demand Your Inheritance

T

his column is all about not putting limits on a limitless God. In church, the sermon was all about how we, as finite creatures, do a pretty good job of trying to put the infinite being of God into some way, shape or form that we can understand. The problem with that is we can’t do it. Our brain won’t let us comprehend all knowing, all powerful, everywhere since before time began and after it stops. You see the terms “all,” “before,” and “after,” presuppose there is a limit to time and space and power and understanding and things.

It is the way of a finite being which happens to be us. These are human characteristics and it is how we have come to rationalize life. It begins at birth.

It ends at death. But does it?

Pastor was teaching that as long as we operate that way, we limit what we think we’re able to do. His point and mine is don’t put man’s limits on God’s promises.

You see each one of us has an image of ourselves on the inside of who we are and what we can do. It has been shaped by friends and family, situations and circumstances, what we want and what we have. For many of us that image is in direct conflict with what God sees and knows He has placed within us. Let me put it this way. Would you ask a homeless man for $100? Of course not! You wouldn’t ask, because you wouldn’t believe he had it.

is greatness in you, dare I say you wouldn’t ask God for it. And there’s the rub. I am now of the opinion, it’s time for all of us to put demands on God. I am not being arrogant or presumptuous. I am trying to be humble, respectful and obedient. God has been saying forever to ask him. As a matter of fact, He says, ask, seek, and knock. In each instance your action is promised a positive reaction.

Don’t ask. Don’t get. I’m really talking about mustard seed stuff here. Your faith dictates what you ask for. Do you have enough faith to take the limits off God and to ask Him; to demand from Him the inheritance that is yours as delivered by the finished work of Jesus Christ?

I understand this can be tricky stuff. And it’s not easy. We put obstacles in our way when it comes to simply receiving the grace and blessings of God. I’m merely pointing out that we have some say in this. We have a spiritual obligation to not limit God. The solution is to recognize those things we do that are subtle, but devastating to our achieving God’s purpose for us. Fear limits God. If you think the answer will be no, you won’t ask. Unbelief limits God. If you don’t believe it’s possible, then all things become impossible. Disobedience limits God. If you disobey, you don’t think you have the right to ask for anything. And comparison limits God. If you feel unworthy and less than those who have more, you’ll accept what

you have and nothing more.

How? Why? By negating a willingness to believe that we are truly blessed and highly favored, made in the image of almighty God and destined to be great for Him. You know there is fear of failure and fear of success, both with the same result. I call it, “the do nothing”. It’s comfortable and you can handle that. Who wants to expect everything when the world has taught you that you don’t deserve anything? My proof of what I’m saying is in Matthew 4:11, after the devil tempted Jesus with everything in the world and He refused in the name of God. “The devil left Him and angels came and attended Him.” In the name of the devil, Jesus was aware enough to say, no, thank you.

And because He knew where

His blessings lay, God sent angels to attend Him and in God’s name gave Him everything the devil had promised.

Think about that.

Are you making any demands on God? He’s just waiting on you to recognize He’s your God, daring you to ask so He can give. Without the question, without the demand, it’s an unfulfilled dream, a mountain too big to move, a desire never met.

And this I know. Psalm 37:45 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the lord, trust in Him and He will do this;” You gotta believe.

May God bless and keep you always.

“The Education of Kevin Powell”

Y

ou never knew what you didn’t have.

There were times in your childhood when cereal was supper because there was nothing else. When birthday toys seemed gently pre-loved, hand-me-downs were new to you, and you were none the wiser. Your family didn’t have much and you never realized it then but in the book “The Education of Kevin Powell” by Kevin Powell, getting schooled later was rough.

Born in the spring of 1966, Kevin Powell entered the world and, though his mother had moved to Jersey City from “Down South” to escape it, slid directly into poverty. They shared a rat-

and-roach-infested apartment with Powell’s aunt and her son, and their us-againstthe-world closeness was “something safe, something magical…”

At age four, Powell “did not know what the word ‘drunk’ meant,” but he learned at a party, and was beaten by his mother for getting drunksick. At age six, his grandfather died, but although Powell barely knew the man, he understood that he was a wife-beater. At thirteen, he impulsively joined a fight and lost his cousin, who angrily shunned Powell for the rest of their lives.

As he grew and matured, Powell began to realize that

his family was poor. His home turf was bleak and there were times when it seemed like a dead-end, but his mother told him that he needed an education to become something.

She’d never hugged him. He received no physical affection from her; in fact, she beat him regularly. She said he wasn’t “gonna make it,” but she got him a library card anyway.

Books opened up his world, he hungered to read, and he decided that he wanted to be a writer.

But then life intervened.

Powell went to college, but his temper got him into trouble time and again. He joined a mosque, but left it just as quickly. He’d learned

to hate White people, and that got him into trouble, too. He found success in the entertainment world, but he started to drink and commit petty crimes; he hit bottom, then hit it again… until a search for his lost past gave him what he needed.

Imagine, if you will, that you’re in the ring with a pro-wrestler.

He picks you up, and slams you to the mat. Then he does it again. And again. That’s what it’s like to read “The Education of Kevin Powell”: a series

of literary body-slams, over and over and over.

Part of that effect comes from Powell’s style: there are times when he pulls out a sense of childlike innocence that’ll make you chuckle uneasily. But beware – there are teeth behind the wide-eyed schtick, and his next memory gnashes them.

In a way, that can be quite relentless – but it’s also very interesting and oh-so-entertaining.

I thought for a minute that I wouldn’t recommend this book (now out in paperback) but I ended up liking it a lot.

It’s an up-and-down journey with humor and strength, and if that’s what you need, then

Bottom line it’s a winwin for residents who have more resources to buy fresh and affordable produce while saving money, and the local/

regional farmers that provide the produce can continue to support the community while providing for their families.

Here are some important facts to remember about Health Bucks: The Health Bucks season officially begins July 1st and lasts until November 30th when harvest and availability ends.

To be eligible for Health bucks, you must be eligible for SNAP/EBT (Supple-
