But the progress that Obama made to address climate change in the United States and through partnerships with other world leaders could be undone during the next administration.

Trump picked Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Washington Post reported that, “Pruitt, who has written that the debate on climate change is ‘far from settled,’ joined a coalition of state attorneys general in suing over the agency’s Clean Power Plan, the principal Obama-era policy aimed at reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity sector.”

Despite his accomplishments, Obama acknowledged that there was still a lot of work to do particularly on the issues of homelessness, job creation, income inequality and gun violence.

“After I leave office, I intend to continue to work with organizations and citizens doing good across the country on these and other pressing issues to build on the progress that we’ve made,” said Obama.

Nationally, Democrats have lost more than 1,000 elected seats since Obama took office.

Democrats also serve in the minority in both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate.

Obama also said that Democrats have to promote their policies “where people feel as

if they’re not being heard and where Democrats are characterized as coastal, liberal, latte-sipping, politically-correct, out-of-touch folks.”

“We have to be in those communities,” said Obama.

“And I’ve seen that when we are in those communities, it makes a difference.”

Obama continued: “That’s how I became President. I became a U.S. senator not just because I had a strong base in Chicago, but because I was driving around downstate Illinois and going to fish frys and sitting in VFW halls and talking to farmers.”

In the 2016 presidential election, Trump was able to win the counties of Erie, Northampton and Luzerne in Pennsylvania; three counties that Obama won in 2012. Trump also flipped 22 counties in Wisconsin that Obama won during the last election. In the aftermath of Hillary Clinton’s epic Election Day loss, many political pundits have criticized Clinton’s campaign strategy in critical Midwest states, including Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin, that Obama won in 2012.

Obama said that the Democratic Party has to work at the grassroots level and has to be present in all 50 states, taking

their message directly to voters.

“I still believe what I said in 2004, which is this red state/ blue thing is a construct. Now, it is a construct that has gotten more and more powerful for a whole lot of reasons, from gerrymandering to big money, to the way that media has splintered,” said Obama. “And so people are just watching what reinforces their existing biases as opposed to listening to different points of view. So, there are all kinds of reasons for it.”

People care about their families, meaningful work, and they want to make sure their children have more opportunities than they did and Obama said that is the common ground where Democratic leadership needs to reach voters and speak to all Americans.

“People have asked me how do you feel after the election and so forth, and I say, well, look, this is a clarifying moment. It’s a useful reminder that voting counts, politics counts,” said Obama. “What the President-elect is going to be doing is going to be very different than what I was doing, and I think people will be able to compare and contrast and make judgments about what worked for the American people.”

Athena Moore Jumps into Race for Upper Manhattan City Council Seat in 9th District Special Election on Feb. 14

thena Moore, former Director of the Northern Manhattan Office for Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, today announced her candidacy for the City Council’s 9th District’s February 14 Special Election.

The seat, which covers Central Harlem, parts of East Harlem and the Upper West Side, is being vacated

by Council Member Inez Dickens, who is ascending to the New York State Assembly.

“As a City Council Member I will be a fierce leader and advocate to restore and strengthen the

pillars of a healthy community – affordable housing, education and employment for all of the communities in Upper Manhattan,” said Ms. Moore.

“I’m delighted to endorse Athena Moore who, as director of my Northern Manhattan Office, established its path breaking storefront facility,” said Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer. “She’s smart, talented, experienced, and knows in her bones the value of public service and the needs of Harlem. She will provide a fresh new voice on a City Council that needs one.”

As part of Borough President Brewer’s senior management team, Ms. Moore managed a diverse portfolio, which included constituent services and provided input on affordable housing, land use, budget and legislative decisions.

“I have over 20 years’ experience working in public service, government and nonprofit, at the city, state, and federal levels. I will bring my knowledge of housing, land use, budget and legislative policy to upgrade services and the quality of life for my community,” said Ms. Moore.

Before joining the Manhattan Borough President’s

Office, Ms. Moore was Director of Public Policy at the National Black Leadership Commission on HIV/AIDS. She was also previously Associate Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers-NYC Chapter and a consultant at the NYC Administration for Children’s Services. Ms. Moore also served as Executive Director of the Black Equity Alliance at the United Way of New York City, and as a senior manager for the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies. She began her career working for District Council 37.

President Gale Brewer, former Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, and Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts III, pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, to name a few.

Solomon started performing at Harlem’s historic New Amsterdam Musical Association and on Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater. His biggest gigs include performances at the United Nations, the 2009 U.S. Open, MetLife Stadium and Madison Square Garden. A year after joining the Cotton Club All Stars as lead guitarist at age 13, Solomon recorded his first album, Embryonic.

Q. How does it feel to be here in Harlem, your own community, to receive this prestigious award bestowed on you by your peers, the Voza Rivers - New Heritage Theatre?

Q. What would you say to encourage people to come to see your August Wilson’s Jitney?

A. The main reason is that August Wilson is arguably – and if someone wants to argue they should come to me - the greatest African American playwright this nation has produced, and the greatest American playwright of the last three decades. He has accomplished things that no other playwright accomplished.

He has written 10 plays and all of them are now going to Broadway - and it took a lot of push to get that final one there- but he is deserving of all the attention and any day when that curtain goes up, the most important message you need to hear that day is going to be on that Broadway stage at Friedman Theatre, is called Jitney.

For Women Artists: In 2017 “Insecurity Is a Waste of Time”

T

his profound advice came from one of the world’s most famous fashion designers born on New Year’s Eve in 1946, Diane Von Furstenberg.

Eighteen months before she was born her mother was a prisoner in Auschwitz. As a Holocaust survivor, her mother always taught her that fear was not an option. Due to her mother’s teaching and inspirational life, Von Furstenberg says that any time she was faced with a problem, though she might have been terrified, she knew facing them and taking them head on was the best road.

Diane Von Furstenberg’s life should be an inspiration to any female

artist or designer. Her life is one of the impossible fairy tales that become real, yet it is also the life of a determined woman.

Diane was born to a mother who had only weighed in at about 95lbs in Auschwitz, taught her daughter to be fearless and the little girl grew up to marry a prince with a determination to have a career of her own, in spite of her Princess status. She did it with class and with other women in mind. Her wrap dress made women’s lives easier to get ready for work or play. Her design became in demand across the world and is now in the collection of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

portance of being counted in next year’s census.

Dr. Dukes acknowledged that there are many troubling issues facing all Americans in 2017, but said the NAACP will tackle them head on, like they’ve done for the last century.

“That’s our advocacy role and we’re going to step into it like never before,” Dr. Dukes said.

“We’re going to keep America great and make it better. That will be the role of the NAACP. We’re 108 years old, and we will not be moved. We’re not going back. This is our moment to shine.”

How Martin Luther King Jr.’s Life Was Saved at Harlem Hospital T

he Museum of the City of New York celebrates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with performances by The New York City Gospel Choir, a family program dedicated to the activist legacy left behind by several civil rights heroes including the great man himself, and a display called Saving Martin Luther King Jr.’s Life in Harlem.

On September 20, 1958, Dr. King visited Blumenstein’s department store in Harlem to promote Stride Toward Freedom, his newly published account of the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott. As he autographed copies of the book, he was stabbed by a mentally ill woman. His life in danger, King was rushed to Harlem Hospital at Lenox Avenue and 136th Street where he underwent an operation. An x-ray revealed that the blade was resting against King’s aorta—the slightest jolt, even a sneeze, could have been fatal. Dr. King spoke of the incident in his last public speech in 1968, saying: “If I had sneezed, I wouldn’t have had a chance later that year, in August, to try to tell America about a dream that I had had.”

Saving Dr. King Jr.’s Life in Harlem presents three photos and a painting, which together illuminate ways in which Harlem’s history is intertwined with that of the nation’s battle for civil rights. The display also shines a spotlight on Harlem Hospital, which paved the way for African-American doctors in New York.

cational ways to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Whitney Donhauser, Ronay Menschel Director of the Museum of the City of New York. “New York City’s story

On Sunday, January 15, the Museum’s rotunda will be filled with the musical stylings of the The New York City Gospel Choir, who will mix

gospel classics, Motown hits, and contemporary favorites to provide a musical exclamation point for the weekend. Performances will be every hour on the hour from noon until 4pm.

On Monday January 16, the Museum invites families to participate in Activist New York Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a family program where children and parents will discover how New Yorkers have fought for freedom and equality over the past 350 years. After learning about the Civil Rights movement in our city, participants will create their own protest poster to inspire change for an issue of particular importance to them.

This program takes place on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in his honor, from 11am to 2pm. Family programs are free with Museum admission and for members, geared to families with children ages 6-12 years old, and include a snack. Programs are designed for adults and children to complete the activities together.

Young Blacks Benefit from HPV Vaccine, Experts Say

H

igher rates of cancers associated with the human papillomavirus (HPV) occur in African Americans compared to Whites, according to a nationally renowned physician Dr. Alison Moriarty Daley.

While some Black parents have concerns about vaccines for HPV including that their children are too young to even consider sex, health experts say that the vaccine – particularly Gardasil 9 – does more than help prevent the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus.

“It’s a safe and effective form of cancer prevention,” said Daley of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, an organization with its headquarters in New York.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States, Daley and other health experts said.

Of the estimated 79 million Americans currently infected with HPV, half of those newly infected with HPV are between 15-24 years of age, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The vaccine is recommended for girls and boys between 11 and 26 years old.

“Acquisition of the HPV virus happens pretty quickly after the initiation of sexual activity. So that’s why it’s important to vaccinate early to prevent the virus before anyone’s exposed to it,” she said.

The link between HPV and cervical cancer is irrefutable, Daley noted.

“We know that HPV is the

cause of cervical cancer,” she said. “And even just last year, there were 12,900 new cases of cervical cancer and 4,100 deaths attributed to cervical cancer.”

Reportedly, HPV is also linked to certain cancers of the mouth, throat and genitals in both men and women.

The original recommendation of three doses of the HPV vaccine was amended in October to just two doses for children younger than age 15.

Older teens and young adults still require three doses.

The rate of those contracting HPV-associated cancers varies by race and ethnicity, African Americans are hit hardest — men and women — according to officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Black women had higher rates of HPV-associated vaginal cancer than White women while African-American and Latino women had lower rates of HPV-associated vulvar cancer than White and non-Hispanic women, according to the CDC. ● Rates of anal and rectal HPV-associated cancers were also higher in Black men when compared with White men, but lower in Black women when compared with White women. ● In all races and ethnicities, men had higher rates of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer than women while Black and Latino men and women had lower rates of HPV-associated oropharyn-

In order to boost HPV vaccination, doctors should be more assertive when bringing up the topic with parents, Noel Brewer, a health and behavior scientist at the University of North Carolina, told NPR this year.

Brewer knew from earlier research that doctors contribute to that low vaccination rate because “doctors should be more assertive when bringing up the topic with parents,” especially when children are 11 or 12 when it’s recommended the vaccine be given.

Also, because the vaccine is more effective at ages 11 and 12, the CDC now recommends only two doses instead of three. However, if children don’t get vaccinated until age 15, they’ll still need the full three doses.

“The HPV vaccine is an amazing tool to protect our younger generation against many types of cancer,” said Dr. Margaret Stager, a pediatrician with Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland and a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Strains of HPV are responsible for the vast majority of HPV-related cancers, she said.

It can also cause cancer in the back of the throat, so it’s an important vaccine for both girls and boys, Stager said.

Preventing cancer should be the critical take-home message for parents, she added.

“HPV prevalence has already decreased as much as 65 percent among vaccinated youth, dramatically lowering the odds they will face a life-threatening form of cancer in adulthood,” Stager said.

Tips for Coping with Cold Sores during Winter Months

t’s winter, which means it’s also the season for colds, the flu and stress, all of which can trigger fever blister and cold sore outbreaks, which may make many people feel embarrassed. The reality is that this mild affliction is very prevalent. Fifty percent of people will experience cold sores by the time they are 20 years old. Moreover, eight out of 10 people carry the (HSV-1) virus that causes the sores, so people that have fever blisters aren’t alone.

The Herpes Simplex Virus lives deep within nerve tissue. While “dormant,” the virus does not replicate, but when the virus becomes active it

starts producing symptoms like a tingling or burning sensation around the affected area that lets one know a cold sore is on the way. Unfortunately, fever blisters can be painful, itchy and unattractive. While there is no cure for them there are ways to manage symptoms.

2017: A Time of Awakening

ccording to the Chinese zodiac, 2017 will be a Fire Rooster Year; the last Fire Rooster year was 1957.

Awakening is a characteristic of a Fire element year. The growth of the Civil Rights Movement was escalated in 1957.It was a time of collective awakening. Astrology and Numerology are important tools used by too few for the understanding of how to interface with the mysteries of the universe. I consult with Astrologist Gale Armstead and Numerologist Lloyd Strayhorn at the beginning of each year to get

advice on what to expect in the coming New Year. They both agreed that 2017 will be a time of awakening.

Gale Armstead suggested that 2017 might also be a time of re-awakening. It is a number 1 year (2+0+1+7=10=1), a time for new ideas. It is the beginning of the first universal cycle. 2016 was the end of the 9th universal cycle.

2017 will be a time for personal revelations. Individuals will develop a greater awareness of who they are.

Gale also suggested that a collective awakening will occur due to the influence of the planet Uranus being

ime, there is so much of it if you use it properly and so little of it if it’s wasted. You can’t seem to catch up if you somehow manage to get behind and yet it keeps on marching on . . . . There is a time for everything, waking, sleeping, working, playing, eating, the list goes on. How you spend your time is up

to you. As a commodity, time can’t be sold or bartered for more time; that would require you be (mean that you would be) on someone else’s time. . . or worse yet. . . borrowed time! It is also important to give time, even if you don’t have any, to other people or efforts. Giving time requires relinquishing even more valuable . . . you guessed it . . . time!

How do you make more time for yourself if you don’t have time?

Truthfully, you don’t and can’t because your time isn’t yours!

Right? Is it really possible to give something that doesn’t belong to you? When it comes to time, the answer is yes

because if you fail to find time then you end up missing the time to do it later because you will see that you are running out of time . . . again!

Then there are those we count on to always be on time, especially if we need them to help us monitor our time, they normally provide services and operate on time schedules, trains, busses, subways and the like. We are sometimes amused (or not) if they run late, but their errors seem to really mess up our time! They make us realize that we should have given ourselves more time in the first place!

There are those who

appear, at times, to care less about our time, even though you are paying for their time, (some) doctors, (some) hairdressers, (some) manicurists etc. They tend to ignore your request (pleadings) to be on time; but we tolerate it because to rush the service would mean that you won’t get your money’s worth and walk out undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, looking bad with jagged cuticles to boot! You see, they have to appear to give more time to each person, but in reality they are taking up our time. Somehow we manage to forgive and forget even though they have taken up more of

our time than we intended. Go figure.

How about time and time again . . . . when we intend to do something and continuously forget? Or over planning to the extent that there is no opportunity for spontaneity? Is there ever a time to just be in the moment as life coaches are encouraging us to do?

How many moments equal too much time?

What ever happened to taking your time? It is said that time waits for no man or woman for that matter. Be thankful for the time you have and make the most of it before today becomes yesterday’s tomorrow.

ven if you wanted to, you couldn’t escape your father.

For most of your life, you were known as Little Him. Junior. Insert-yourfather’s-name-here’s kid.

You’re a chip off the ol’ block, maybe named after your Pops, forever known as your Dad’s offspring.

But, as John Edgar Wideman indicates in “Writing to Save a Life: The Louis Till File,” that doesn’t mean that the supposed sins of a father should be laid at the feet of his child.

On a hot Chicago summer day in 1955, fourteenyear-old Emmett Till took a train south to visit family in Mississippi .He left with a sense of excitement and

came home in a specially-ordered, glass-lidded coffin, because his mother wanted “the world” to know what had happened to him.

There was, of course, a trial for his murder, and fourteen-year-old John Edgar Wideman watched it unfold. He’d always wanted to write “Emmett Till fiction” but real-life turned out to be more compelling: two weeks before the Grand Jury convened, someone leaked Emmett’s father’s confidential military records, revealing that Private Louis Till had been hanged in Italy a decade earlier for the crimes of rape and murder.

The revelation changed

the expected outcome of the trial.

In that same summer of 1955, Wideman fell in love, became broken-hearted, and saw pictures of dead Emmett in Jet magazine. That summer, he was sad, confused, angry and so, he says, was his father. There were other parallels, too; so many lines drawn from fathers to sons that made Wideman and his dad “afraid of each other.”

With that in mind, Wideman requested Louis Till’s file and discovered “helter-skelter” papers and a “hodgepodge of this and that…” Till had been just “a kid” when hanged, the probable victim of an “ugly

story.” Had he been around to “school his son… about the south,” would Emmett have come home alive?

Can a man change the outcome of his child’s existence?

Though “Writing to Save a Life” is an intriguing, even provocative book, it may be a struggle to read. For sure, it’s going to take some getting used to.

That’s a great method of storytelling, and it lends urgency and relevancy but it’s not

very well delineated here – meaning that it sometimes takes a minute to understand when this book takes a fictional turn and when it turns back again. That can be a distraction, even as those switch-and-switchbacks add to the emotional feel of the story. Purists may also find an occasion-

And yet – keep reading. This is a hard-hitting, raw-spirited tale that ultimately gets under your skin, and it’ll make you think about fathers, sons, and what they might leave one another. Keep reading – because “Writing to Save a Life” may become a book you can’t forget, even if you wanted to.

s 2017 the year you’ll be living on your own for the first time? Having your own apartment is exciting, but it can also be quite stressful. To combat that, we here at RentHop put together the 11 not so obvious things that your new apartment needs and we think you will be very glad to have.

1. An Extension Cord Electronics play a huge role in our lives.

Remembering to have one (or multiple) extension cords will save you from ever facing this annoying problem.

2. Oven Mitts One of the most common things to make sure you have when you move out for the first time is cooking equipment. Save your hands from blisters and invest in a pair of oven mitts before you move out.

3. Fire Extinguisher One of the worst things that could happen to a rental unit is a fire.

5. Toilet Plunger You knew this had to get a spot on this list. If you don’t have one, you will quickly be rushing to get one when your toilet begins to overflow.

It is far better to have something and not need it, then it is to need it and not have it.

6. Shower Curtains Continuing with items you absolutely need in the bathroom, next up is shower curtains. It can also help decorate a bathroom, as you can choose whatever design you like. Just make sure you keep them clean!

7. Trash Cans Like the plunger, this is another item that you will likely forget about as we often take them for granted. If you don’t buy a garbage can for your new apartment, you will quickly realize your mistake when you have some trash to throw away.

8. Set of Tools While big jobs when it comes to maintenance will be taken care of, it might be easier for you to tackle some smaller fixes yourself. A tool kit that contains your screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers and such will come in very handy at times.

9. First-aid Kit Injuries happen to the best of us. Instead of being reactive, why not be proactive and keep a fully stocked first aid kit. It could save you in a pinch and offer you a lot of peace of mind.

10. Bottle Opener/ Can Opener When you move out for the first time, there is a good chance you’ll want to have a little housewarming celebration. Imagine the embarrassment when you have everyone present and ready to party, only to find out you don’t have a bottle opener. These are two small purchases that will go a long way, trust us.

he truth is time does fly and it waits on no one. It is a proven fact that we have to keep on keeping on, in order to keep up.

However, not everyone wants to be in a `move it along’ mode all of the time. Some of us want to take it just a bit slower before we jump into a new year.

It’s okay to slow your roll. There are lights still blinking on tree limbs and colorful twinkling on terrace railings throughout the city, look up. Many people are still in the throes of the reason for the season just celebrated as the greatest “Earth Day” ever in the history of the world.

Face it…2016 is gone and 2017 is upon us.

When the ball dropped on Times Square in New York City, new year’s resolutions were on our minds again, whether we call them resolutions by name, it’s what we do.

We made plans to make major changes in our fi-

nances, weight, partnerships, etc. Then oops, in a few short days, we have already discovered we may have taken on more than we can chew. The best of our plans are too great a challenge, so we think heartfelt hopes got shredded or deleted and very little changes were in our consciousness.

Perhaps you started out all enthusiastic, full of determination and already have given up.

That happens when patience go down the drain and the realization that everything takes time is cast aside. Talk show host and motivational speaker Iyanla Vanzant is

adamant when she advises her audiences to “do the work.” Step back and revisit those resolutions from prior years.

Anything worth doing necessitates time, fortitude and serious study.

Not even God gives us what we want when we want it and He is in the miracle business.

Resolutions do not have to be focused on changes. It is just as important to give consideration to what you have already attempted in a new light. If you have an entrepreneurial interest, don’t jump into it haphazardly. Do the research, take a class, volunteer for someone already in the business,

and don’t give up until you have checked all avenues.

If weight reduction is your aim, understand that it takes more than the latest diet. You have to move it so you can lose it. Go to a gym or commit to exercise time at home.

You say you want to travel to some exotic place; start putting the funds aside right now. You’re worried about your health? Go to a doctor and stop trying to work it out with home remedies.

It is wise to set a timeline. However, if your resolution is predicated on 365 days for completion that may not be a reasonable or plausible

time allotment for that particular ambition.

A good rule of order for 2017 could be one step at a time in an attitude of gratitude. Slow your roll, stay steady and focused on your goals, hopes and dreams. Do the work and see what the end shall be when 2018 rolls in. Enjoy the little things while you move toward the bigger things.

Is It Past Time To Reprogram the Software In Your Brain?

She likens it to running a new program on a computer. First, you need to install the program – or at least upgrade the existing software.

Here’s why: Research indicates that the unconscious mind is running you on its auto pilot 95 percent of the time, Talbot says.

“That means the conscious mind provides 5 percent or less of our cognitive activity during the day,” she says. “So even when you think you’re consciously making a decision, you’re not. You are operating from pre-existing programs running at the unconscious level.”

The good news, Talbot says, is you really can reprogram the “software” in your brain. But she cautions that unlearning a lifetime worth of habits is no simple feat.

“A lot of the thoughts and attitudes rumbling around in your brain were probably programmed during childhood, which means they’re out of date,” she says. “It’s also likely that many beliefs that guide your life aren’t even your own. They were adopted from your family, culture or heritage.”

There’s a lot involved in unbinding those ties to the past, but Talbot offers a few tips to point you in the right direction.

• Understand that be-

People often think that experience is what leads to beliefs, but it’s actually the other way around.

Your beliefs shape your destiny. If deep down you believe you’re not good enough to accomplish something that will create the reality. “It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy,” Talbot says. “So when was the last time you examined your beliefs? Are they outdated and only supporting a limited view of what’s really possible for you? Maybe it’s time to choose your own beliefs rather than operate from those passed down by your ancestors.”

• Be the cause for all the effects in your life.

Life is a chain reaction

of causes and effects. Everything that happens was caused by what happened before and is the effect for what will happen next.

“Some people seem stuck on the ‘effect’ side of life, bemoaning their bad luck,” Talbot says. “Others habitually think of themselves on the ‘cause’ side of life, always doing and achieving things.”

• Your words say more than you realize. The way we share and express our thoughts and beliefs is through language. And the language we use makes a huge difference, Talbot says. “You can change the language you use every day to label people, events, situations and circumstances in your life,” she says. “As soon

as the label you put on them changes, your experience and perception of the person, the event, the situation or the circumstance also change.”

“Once you realize you’re creating your life as you go along, it gives you the power to change,” Talbot says. “You can choose to pay attention to different things, interpret experiences differently, feel differently and act differently.”

Then a question popped into my mind that I thought at first was strange: Why do you deserve it? I actually thought about it for a few moments, then I answered to self without hesitation: It is my birthright.

I teach a fitness class for youth and one of the main messages I try to drive home to them is to treat their health as they would their most prized possession. Whether their favorite electronic device, or item of clothing like the KD8 sneakers my nephew just had to have this Christmas

(and of course I had to get them for him), I encourage the students to view their body as their most prized possession; giving to it what it needs to function at optimal level for many years to come. In other words, take care of your most prized possession, and it will take care of you.

We grow up socialized to view “success” in terms of wealth, status, education level, and other similar indicators. We go to school to gather the tools to help us get a good education and earn an honest living. Yet how often are we given the tools that help us to develop a mind that is set on wellness – perhaps one of the
