Aqueduct ‘Inside Man’ Posed as a Victim during $280K+ Heist: Feds

Cusenza Two criminal complaints have been unsealed in Brooklyn federal court charging two men—including an Aqueduct Racetrack security guard—for their roles in connection with the March armed robbery of more than $280,000 in cash from the South Ozone Park pony park, federal prosecutors announced Monday.

Lamel Miller, 37, and Lafayette Morrison, 37, both borough residents, have been charged with Hobbs Act robbery (actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce).

“The defendants allegedly gambled that they could pull off a highstakes robbery with the benefit of inside information, but thanks to the outstanding efforts of ATF special agents and NYPD detectives, they ended up on the losing end of that bet,” quipped Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue.

Morrison was actually an “inside man,” providing information in advance about where and when the money would be transported to the vault. Aqueduct surveillance video shows Miller and the co-conspirator, still wearing surgical masks, carrying a garbage bag and a duffel bag when they exited the racetrack office and walked toward a parking lot at approximately 10:05 p.m.

If convicted, Miller and Morrison face up to 20 years’ imprisonment.

Borough President, ASPCA to Deliver Bags of Pet Food to Community Groups

By Forum Staff The Borough President’s Office and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are teaming up to donate pet food to 14 local non-profits and communitybased organizations for distribution amongst Queens families in need of assistance feeding their four-legged loved ones., Acting Borough President Sharon Lee announced Monday.

According to Lee, the ASPCA’s donation of 2,520 combined bags of cat and dog food aims to address the tide of food insecurity for families with pets—already one of the most commonly requested items at food pantries— due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Considering the vital role pets play in our lives—especially in times of uncertainty and stress—it’s extremely important to safeguard their health and welfare as much as we possibly can,” said ASPCA Senior Director of NYC Legislation Michelle Villagomez. “We are grateful to be partnering with Borough President Lee to help make sure Queens’ pet owners can access the resources they need to continue caring for their pets.”

Thanks to the South Queens councilman, de Blasio’s immediate future remains uncertain.

“I just woke up & NYC is still smoldering from civil unrest. @NYCMayorhas lost control of the situation. Even some of his closest allies have abandoned ship. It’s time for @NYGovCuomoto step in & remove him from office. I will be calling for a vote of no confidence @NYCCouncil,” Ulrich tweeted on June 4.

By Forum Staff A suspected firebug recently arrested for allegedly setting seven rubbish fires this year in Queens is also being charged for igniting a fatal fire in the Bronx nearly 14 years ago, City Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro announced Thursday.

Luis Ventura, 46, has been charged with murder, arson, criminal mischief, and reckless endangerment. Bail for Ventura, a na-

tive of the Dominican Republic, has been set at $100,000 cash/$100,000 bond.

According to FDNY officials, in May and June of this year, fire marshals responded to a series of rubbish fires in Jamaica along Highland Avenue, Parsons Boulevard, Hillside Avenue, and the Van Wyck Expressway that prompted an immediate investigation. After conducting interviews, as well as canvassing the area for surveillance video, authorities identified Ventura as a person of interest.

A review of past records connected Ventura to the cold case Bronx blaze. On Dec. 17, 2006, firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the lobby of 2185 Grand Concourse.

It took 12 units and 60 Bravest to bring the blaze control. Ten people were hurt, including an individual who succumbed to their injuries a month after the inferno.

“This arrest is an example of outstanding coordination between our fire marshals and the NYPD,” Nigro said. “I commend all involved for their efforts to arrest a dangerous individual whose actions led to a death of an innocent New Yorker 14 years ago.”

FDNY officials noted that the case will be prosecuted by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

EDITORIAL The Puppet Show If you’re tired of being bound, gagged and tied down for the daily force-feeding of BS by the mainstream media, then I hope you will read on. If, however, you are sitting home on the couch watching CNN and subscribing to the lies you’re being told, please put this newspaper down and never pick it up again.

I’ve said in this space before that I think black lives matter, as do all others. But witnessing the behaviors and listening to the words of representatives and supporters of the Black Lives Matter Movement, I say to you today that these people whose foundations are supposedly etched in a revolt against systemic racism are the very essence of that which they are claiming to change, and that which they will “no longer tolerate.” The movement is racist in every sense of the word, it is anarchistic, and if it is not put in check, I believe it will lead to more destruction than we could ever imagine.

Let’s look at where the rise in this movement currently sweeping across the country is rooted. At a time when our country and the world are crippled by COVID-19, four Minneapolis police officers further shook the earth when they murdered George Floyd— and yes, I say four because while one knee suffocated Floyd, three other police officers stood on their knees and did nothing to stop this indefensible act.

The media painted Floyd as a “gentle giant” and made him out to be a folk hero of sorts, a martyr. I would stake a lifetime of earnings that if this had happened to a white man, or the news media liked the current president, we would also have been told that this victim had an arrest record as long as his frame. They would have also shared the fact that an autopsy performed at the time of his death showed methamphetamine and fentanyl. They might not have obliterated all of the facts when they described Floyd as the man who was turning his life around. We do not dispute the fact

that no matter his criminal past, no matter his choice to do drugs, he should still be alive and should never have been subjected to the mistreatment he faced.

His death has led to protesting, rioting and looting, defunding of police departments and brought racial tension to new heights.

It has also led to a warped representation of Democrats who have assumed a position at the right hand of the movement. The same Democrats who developed and perpetuated slavery, the same Democrats who built the Ku Klux Klan and the same Democrats who masquerade as champions of black Americans and destructively continue with their falsified degradation of the Republican Party and the President of the United States.

I for one am totally sick of it and sick of tiptoeing around and not having brass to just come out and say we’d better recognize that what is going on is a calculated, well-funded movement to put the

country on track for decades more of people being buried by government dependence. We are on the road to witness generations more of the creation of lethal puppets, wreaking havoc and living off hard working Americans who earn their entitlement, instead of stealing it, killing for it or just plain demanding it.

If this manipulation isn’t obvious to you then maybe you could offer a reasonable explanation as to what truly spurred the revelation that produced this very editorial: Nancy Pelosi’s presentation of a military flag to George Floyd’s family.

The Veteran’s Administration of the United States of America outlines those eligible for this honor: 1. Veteran who served during wartime 2. Veteran who died on active duty after May 27, 1941 3. Veteran who served after January 31, 1955 4. Peacetime Veteran who was discharged or released before June 27, 1950 after serving at least one enlistment, or for a disability incurred or aggravated in line of duty 5. Certain persons who served in the organized military forces of the Commonwealth of the Philippines while in service of the U.S. Armed Forces and who died on or after April 25, 1951 6. Certain former members of the Selected Reserves We triple-checked the list for any provisions for the families of civilians who are addicted to drugs, who have a criminal past, and who were documented resisting arrest who, incidentally, have apparently not served in the military forces of the United States of America. There were none.

We only wish there were some provisions to have Nancy Pelosi clean the spit from the faces of every family member of veterans who served and gave their lives for the country she and those members of her party disrespect every minute of every day.

Good News for NY on Virus Front

Once the global epicenter of COVID-19, with the most daily new infections and the highest number of virus-related deaths, the Empire State can now boast the nation’s lowest rate of transmission, 0.77, according to the website rt.live, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday.

“New York State: the lowest rate of transmission, meaning the virus is spreading at the lowest rate in the State of New York, of every state in America; that is incredible,” the governor said.“We were the number one state in terms of infection, number one in the nation, number one on the globe per capita, and now we’re the last state in terms of rate of transmission. That is because New Yorkers stepped up, they were smart, they were disciplined, they did what they had to do, and we have to stay there. We have to stay there. Now is no time to forget what got us here. We have to stay smart.”

Cuomo also noted that nearly twodozen states reported an increase in COVID-19 cases.

“Where we are today is a pivotal point in this entire situation with the coronavirus.

You see states all across the nation where the infection rate is going up dramatically.

You have states now that reopened that are scaling back their reopening. That’s how bad the spikes are,” Cuomo added. “States that have reopened too quickly or uncontrolled are now starting to close down. So we are the exact opposite. Since we’ve re-

opened, the number has continued to go down, believe it or not. We reopened. It continues to go down because we've been disciplined in our reopening, and that’s what we have to continue to do.”

New York’s executive also cautioned that now is not the time for complacency.

“Well, we’re reopening, we’re out the woods, everything is fine. No. Reopening is actually much harder than closing. Closing was abrupt and disruptive, but it was simple. Everything is closed. Reopening is more delicate and more nuanced,” Cuomo noted.“If you look at the states and the countries that have been reopening, more of them have gotten into trouble than not.

As we sit here today, states are getting into trouble. Newspapers will tell you more than a dozen states are now seeing increases.

Texas, 36 percent increase since Memorial Day. Reopen, reopen, reopen. Be careful, be careful, be careful. California, the cases are still going up. Florida, the cases are going up. Look at those curves around the nation. Why? Because if you just reopen, if you just increase activity, the virus spread is going to up compared to the virus spread when you were closed.

“That’s common sense,” the governor continued. “You have to reopen smartly, and safely, and intelligently. Otherwise, you will see the increase, especially in a place like New York City with that density. People on sidewalks, people on buses, people on subway cars. It has to be done right and we have to stay disciplined and the evidence is all around us, what happens if we’re not.”

New Laws to Apply More Scrutiny to Police Officers

Cusenza Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday signed policing reform legislation requiring state and local law enforcement officers to report within six hours when they discharge their weapon; requiring courts to compile and publish racial and other demographic data of all low-level offenses; and requiring police officers to provide medical and mental health attention to individuals in custody.

According to the administration, the Police Statistics and Transparency Act—or STAT Act—requires courts to compile and publish racial and other demographic data of all low-level offenses, including misdemeanors and violations. The data collected must be made available online and updated monthly. The new law also requires police departments to report any arrest-related death to the Department of Criminal Justice Services and to submit annual reports on arrest-related deaths to the governor and the State Legislature.

The new package of laws includes a measure that requires that any law enforcement officer or peace officer who discharges their weapon, while on or off duty, where a person could be struck by a bullet from the weapon is required to verbally report the incident to his or her supervisor within six hours and prepare and file a written report within 48 hours of the incident.

The third piece of legislation in Monday’s policing reform package requires police officers, peace officers and other law enforcement representatives and entities to provide medical and mental health attention to any individual in custody. Police can be liable for damages for anyone who does not receive medical attention and suffers a serious physical injury or has their injury exacerbated by the lack of care.

“Police reform is long overdue in this state and this nation, and New York is once again leading the way and enacting real change to end the systemic discrimination that exists in our criminal justice and policing systems,” Cuomo said. “These critical reforms will help improve the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve and take us one step closer to righting the many injustices minority communities have faced because of a broken and unfair system.”

Additionally this week, the City Council is set to vote on a number of police reform bills. Thursday’s stated meeting features the Public Oversight of Surveillance Technology (POST) Act; a bill that makes it a crime for police to use chokeholds; another one that requires the NYPD

to use a disciplinary matrix; and a fourth measure that makes it illegal for officers to hide their badge numbers.

According to the council, the POST Act requires the NYPD to publicly disclose information on its surveillance technology tools and to develop policies on how it uses those tools. The bill would also require annual oversight of the NYPD’s use of surveillance technology to ensure compliance with those policies.

According to the council, the Post Act was crafted with feedback from civil rights and civil liberties groups concerned over the lack of oversight of the NYPD’s use of surveillance tools on the public. The NYPD has access to cell site simulators to capture cell phone information, facial recognition technol-

ogy, license plate readers and X-ray vans, but there has been little public information on the capabilities of these tools and how the NYPD’s uses the private information they collect. In addition, the public has no way of knowing what other surveillance tools the NYPD uses.

“In 2020, technology is developing faster than ever before and we need to be able to adapt just as quickly to ensure that there are regulations and safeguards to protect our civil liberties. I am proud to pass the POST Act knowing that while Big Brother is watching us, we are watching Big Brother,” said Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Laurelton), chairman of the Committee on Public Safety.

And on Wednesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced new reforms to the NYPD’s disciplinary system.

According to the administration, these reforms will expedite the investigation and discipline for incidents involving substantial bodily injury to a member of the public, and provide greater transparency on disciplinary records and decisions.

The mayor also announced that the City will apply its new bodyworn camera release policy retroactively, and release all audio and video footage from older cases that fit expanded criteria.

“These historic reforms will make the disciplinary process faster, fairer and more transparent. We will never stop working to strengthen the bonds of trust between officers and the New Yorkers they serve,” de Blasio said.

According to Hizzoner, for incidents involving substantial bodily

injury, the Police Commissioner will make an initial determination on whether to place the officer on modified duty or suspension within 48 hours of the incident. NYPD will conclude the investigation into such incidents within two weeks, unless there are evidentiary delays caused by circumstances beyond the control of the NYPD or where there is significant risk of interference with a criminal investigation. Currently, the Internal Affairs Bureau must file charges within 18 months for administrative violations and there is no time limit to file disciplinary charges for criminal conduct.

Additionally, the NYPD will publish all trial decisions or settlements reached going forward, effective immediately. NYPD will also post information for the approximately 1100 pending cases for which charges have been served. This information will include names, charges, hearing dates and resolutions when available. This information will be posted by mid-July. The NYPD will also make comprehensive disciplinary records fully transparent online.

The records of the pending cases will be prioritized for release.

This week, de Blasio announced new body camera footage release policy to promote transparency and accountability. All video and audio footage must be released within 30 days when: an officer discharges a firearm that hits or could hit someone; an officer discharges a Taser in a way that results in death or substantial bodily harm; or an officer’s use of force results in death or great bodily harm. This new policy will apply retroactively to all audio and video footage from older cases that fit criteria.

All footage will be publicly available online, the mayor pledged.

Andrew Cuomo on Friday signed the “Say Their Name” Agenda package, featuring four reforms: allowing for transparency of prior disciplinary records of law enforcement officers by repealing 50-a of the civil rights law; banning chokeholds by law enforcement officers; prohibiting false race-based 911 reports; and designating the State attorney general as an independent prosecutor for matters relating to the civilian deaths.

“The murder of George Floyd was just the tipping point of the systemic injustice and discrimination that has been going on in our nation for decades, if not centuries,” Cuomo said. “These are issues that the country has been talking about for a long time, and these nation-leading reforms will make long overdue changes to our policing and criminal justice systems while helping to restore community confidence in law enforcement. I want to applaud Senate Leader [Andrea] StewartCousins and [Assembly] Speaker [Carl] Heastie and the bill sponsors for working through these tough issues and for their fast action. New York State is the progressive capital.

chokeholds has resulted in too many deaths. The new law creates criminal penalties when a police officer or peace officer uses a chokehold or similar restraint and causes serious physical injury or death.

Cuomo pointed out that recent years have shown a number of frivolous and false calls to 911 based on the callers’ personal discomfort with other people and not for any particular threat. The new law makes it a civil rights violation to call 911 to report a non-emergency incident involving a member of a protected class without reason to suspect a crime or an imminent threat.

“Say Their Name” also establishes an Office of Special Investigation within the Office of the Attorney General to investigate and, where appropriate, prosecute cases where the death of a person follows an encounter with a law enforcement officer.

The law also requires the new Office of Special Investigation to produce a report explaining the reasons for its decision regardless of whether it chooses to pursue charges. According to Cuomo, this will help improve public confidence in the criminal justice system by removing a potential conflict of interest in these types of investigations.

According to the administration, Section 50-a of the State Civil Rights Law creates a special right of privacy for the personnel records of police officers, correction officers, and firefighters and paramedics employed by the State or political subdivisions.

The current law prevents access to both records of the disciplinary proceedings themselves and the recommendations or outcomes of those proceedings, leading to records of complaints or findings of law enforcement misconduct that did not

By Forum Staff The brand-new Terminal B Arrivals and Departures Hall at LaGuardia Airport is now open for business, the biggest milestone to date in the airport’s ongoing $8 billion transformation into a unified 21st century facility.

The project—one of the largest public private partnerships in aviation history— includes the demolition and replacement of every terminal and concourse except for the historically landmarked Marine Air Terminal, Gov. Andrew Cuomo noted.

The new Arrivals and Departures Hall also showcases permanent public art installations curated by the Public Art Fund, enhancing the passenger experience and underscoring New York's global position as a beacon for arts and culture.

“The opening of the new Arrivals and Departures Hall at Terminal B is the biggest milestone to date in the transformation of LaGuardia Airport into a world-class transportation hub that is worthy of New York State,” Cuomo added. “As we continue to upgrade and modernize this airport for

the 21st century, this new state-of-the-art hall will offer passengers a unique travel experience with new concessions, traveler amenities and art installations by four of the world’s leading artists, while increasing space for passengers to move more safely and efficiently during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The new Terminal B opened to the public on Saturday, June 13. It serves American Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Air Canada. According to the administration, by virtue of its size, the terminal presents greater opportunities to move passengers more safely and efficiently with improved distancing during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, including more space for check-in, security and baggage claim, along with new innovations in contactless technology and an increased focus on cleanliness and disinfection.

“Domestic violence has been a pervasive problem in our society, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the situation and exposed the limitations of our traditional systems and methods,” said Melissa DeRosa, secretary to the governor and chairwoman of the State Council on Women and Girls.

By Forum Staff The needs of survivors vary greatly and there are different tools needed to allow each survivor maximum control over their situation, including: mobile advocacy, flexible funding, and housing choice, according to a report outlining recommendations identified by theCOVID-19 Domestic Violence Task Force, which was presented to Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday.

In the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, data reported by law enforcement and domestic violence service providers pointed to an increase in domestic violence, with the State Domestic & Sexual Violence Hotline recording a 33-percent increase in calls for April 2020 compared to April 2019, and shelter occupancy rates upstate rising to 78 percent in April 2020, compared to 59 percent in April 2019.

“Domestic violence has been a pervasive problem in our society, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the situation and exposed the limitations of our traditional systems and methods,” said Melissa DeRosa, secretary to the governor and chairwoman of the State Council on Women and Girls. “Since the uptick in domestic violence incidents during the pandemic, New York has taken aggressive actions to find new and innovative solutions to safely reach domestic violence survivors and provide critical, life-saving services. These recommendations build on our efforts and will help to transform and reimagine the way we provide services by giving survivors of domestic violence choice in their future and control of their decisions.”

According to DeRosa, the recommendations offered by the 27-member task force are ready to be quickly implemented, cutting red tape and prioritizing cultural competency to better meet survivors where they are, give them what they need, and set a foundation for continued innovation.

The task force report outlines 10 recommendations, which Cuomo has accepted in full and is directing the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, along with other sister agencies of the Office of Children and Family Services, the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, the Office of Victim Services, the Division of Criminal Justice Services and the Department of Health, to use these recommendations to update and improve domestic violence services in the state.

The recommendations are: Using New Technologies to Reach More Survivors; Providing

Flexible Funding to Meet the Diverse Needs of Survivors; Providing More Housing Navigation Services; Removing the Requirement that Domestic Violence Victims File a Police Report in Order to Access Victims of Crime Act Funding; Addressing the Needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Survivors of Gender-Based Violence; Normalizing Domestic Violence Screening During Tele-Health Visits; Coordinating a Program to Promote the Need for Representation of Immigrant Victims; Launching a Public Awareness Campaign to Highlight Financial Abuse; Launching a New Prevention Initiative Specifically Directed at Educating Men About Domestic Violence; and Setting the Stage for Future Progress.

“New York has been working to modernize our systems and the way we deliver services to survivors, and the recommendations made by the task force will help address this alarming spike in domestic violence incidents while building our systems and processes back better than they were before,” Cuomo said.

The Fourth of July is only a few short weeks away and as you may have heard this week in the news, there is a large uptick in the usage of fireworks. There have been several reported injuries, some very serious, while using fireworks. Although you may think you are dealing with a reputable source, remember purchasing fireworks to use in our area is first, illegal and secondly, you may be buying offshoot goods, which have a high tendency to misfire causing burns and eye injuries.

Fireworks cause more than 50,000 fires every year. So please, by all means enjoy your upcoming Fourth of July, watch professional displays but above all else, BE CAREFUL! Never disassemble or try to make your own fireworks. Don’t point sparklers, or fireworks at yourself or others, especially while they’re being lit.

Only light fireworks on the ground and in areas that are dry and fire resistant. Don’t attempt to light multiple devices at the same time.

Never allow young children to handle fireworks or sparklers. Always keep

a portable fire extinguisher close by.

Also keep a water hose or buckets of water nearby to put out fires. Firework celebrations go hand in hand with food and grilling and July is a month when more grilling fires occur than any other months. Enjoy grilling your favorite meals but always keep your family safe.

Check gas grill hoses for cracks, holes and leaks. Keep kids away from grills. Gas leaks, blocked tubes, and propane tanks can be a cause of grill fires and explosions. Never grill indoors, in the garage, or in any enclosed area. Keep the grill at least two feet away from decks, siding, branches and any outdoor equipment that can catch fire quickly. And if you’re lucky enough to participate in water activities keep these tips in mind: Review safe boating practices.

Never consume alcohol while driving a boat. Before boating, check that you have enough life preservers for every passenger. Pools should be restricted and fenced in.

Pools should be enclosed with a fence to restrict access to the pool area. Keep a first aid kit near the pool.

Up to 15 Years in Prison for Murder

By Forum Staff A Ridgewood man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison after being found guilty earlier this year of stabbing his roommate to death in September 2016, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Thursday.

Render Stetson-Shanahan, 30, was convicted in February of second-degree manslaughter. Stetson-Shanahan was sentenced via Skype to five to 15 years in prison.

According to trial testimony, shortly before midnight on Sept. 28, 2016, police responded to a report of a man wearing only underwear and wandering his Ridgewood neighborhood with a knife. Copseventually found Stetson-Shanahanat his apartment on Stanhope Street. He was in his bed and was bleeding from a self-inflicted wound to his right thigh. Police also discovered Carolyn Bush, 26, in the next room, bleeding profusely from numerous stab wounds. Bush had been stabbed multiple times in her neck and torso. The

puncture wounds caused massive injuries to her heart and lungs, and severed an artery. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

“The defendant in this case showed no mercy when he repeatedly plunged a knife

into this young woman’s body,” Katz said.

“The victim’s heart was punctured along with her lung and a major artery. The defendant chose to have a non-jury trial, and after weighing all the evidence the Court found him guilty of manslaughter.”

City, Airbnb Reach Settlement Agreement

By Forum Staff The City and online lodging marketplace company Airbnb have reached a settlement agreement, establishing a new framework for the City’s local law that requires short-term rental platforms to share information about their listings, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Friday.

Under the agreement, Airbnb will dismiss its federal lawsuit against the City, and the City Council will introduce an updated local law.

“Illegal hotel operators who flout the law at the expense of working New Yorkers

have no place in our neighborhoods,” de Blasio said. “Finally, we’ll have the critical information we need to preserve affordable housing and keep our communities protected.”

Under the updated law, short-term rental platforms would share information with the City on a quarterly basis. The report would include all listings that generate five or more nights of bookings per quarter, so long as the listing offers an entire home or allows three or more guests to stay at one time. Information will not be provided for private or shared room listings with two or

fewer guest capacity; for listings that are rented for less than five nights per quarter; or for listings that are in qualifying traditional hospitality locations, based on a list the City will publish.

“We have long wanted to work with New York City on an effective regulatory framework, including information sharing—this agreement achieves that,” said Christopher Lehane, senior vice president for Global Public Policy and Communications for Airbnb. “As we look toward the recovery of New York’s tourism economy, we hope this settlement will represent a con-

tinuing relationship and the first step on a path forward for our community citywide.”

For all eligible listings, reports provided to the City would be required to include: • Physical address of the listing; • Host information (name, physical address, phone number, and e-mail address); • The name, number and URL of the listing; • Whether the short-term rental is for an entire unit or part of a unit; • The total number of days booked; • The amount received by the host for each transaction, as well as the account name and anonymized account identifier relating to those payments The settlement is premised on the amendment of the current local law governing short-term rental reporting to reflect the above reporting framework.

“With this agreement, the City will have a powerful tool to detect those who hide behind fake accounts and address those who take housing away from New Yorkers,” added Christian Klossner, executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Enforcement.

“The revised law would not change in any way the current laws governing whether short-term rentals and their advertisements are legal. We will be able to better protect our communities and visitors, and more fully understand the impacts of the illegal short-term rental market. Now more than ever, transparency is vital to the City’s ability to keep residents and travelers safe.”
