FBI Recalls Borough’s Role in Historic ‘Pizza Connection’ Heroin Ring

Cusenza In early April 1984, a massive multi-agency and multi-national investigation culminated with the arrests of nearly threedozen Mafia members and associates, and search warrants that netted drug paraphernalia, immense amounts of cash and weapons, and a trove of incriminating documents.

The Pizza Connection was no more.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of the historic takedown.

The case, granted that ignominious moniker—The Pizza Connection—by journalists chronicling it due to the frequent use of pizza parlors as fronts for drug sales, “was enormously complex and laborious,” the FBI noted.

According to federal prosecutors, which included Manhattan U.S. Attorney Rudy Giuliani, the 22 defendants that eventually went to trial were part of a vast, long-running drug conspiracy that touched four continents. The scheme involved purchasing morphine base from suppliers in Turkey, processing it into heroin in Sicily, smuggling it into the U.S., and then selling it through pizza shops and other Mafia-run businesses stretching from New York to Illinois and Wisconsin. Cocaine was also being imported from South America as part of the operation.

And it was quite the lucrative business, according to authorities. From January 1975 until April 1984, an estimated $1.6 billion worth of heroin was shipped to the U.S. in the plot.

The cash profits were then illegally laundered through a web of banks and brokerages here and overseas.

Federal officials noted that among the 22 men charged in the extensive case were Gaetano Badalamenti, the former top

politan Avenue in Middle Village and San Giuseppe Pizza in Forest Hills—and a major figure in the Bonanno organized crime family.

Iconic undercover FBI Agent Joe Pistone, who famously infiltrated the Bonannos in 1976 as “Donnie Brasco,” delivered “crucial intelligence” that helped set the mammoth case in motion, according to the FBI. Over time, the investigation garnered contributions from the NYPD, the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Customs, and international authorities (including FBI international legal attaché offices) in Italy, Sicily, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, and Mexico.

Over more than four years, authorities gathered a mountain of records and evidence and utilized an array of investigative capabilities. They conducted surveillance on multiple players on multiple continents, sometimes around the clock.

They traced and analyzed thousands of telephone calls, often from remote pay phones. (The phone outside Catalano’s bakery yielded conspiratorial conversations that implicated dozens of gangsters.) Since those involved mostly spoke Sicilian and used coded phrases to conceal their true activities, turning their many covert conversations into plain English was especially challenging, the feds noted, requiring a team of expert translators from the FBI and elsewhere.

The trial began on Oct. 24, 1985, with 22 defendants, all Sicilian-born men. By Michael V. Cusenza At 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, City Police Officer Dennis Guerra, a married father of four from Far Rockaway, was pronounced dead at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.

Guerra, who was posthumously promoted to detective at his funeral by thenPolice Commissioner Bill Bratton, was remembered on Tuesday by the department he loved for giving his life for his city five years ago.

“We will never forget your heroism and the sacrifice you made that day,” the NYPD penned in a heartfelt Twitter post that was accompanied by a photograph of a beaming Guerra.

According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Officers Guerra and Rosa Rodriguez, both assigned to Public Service Area 1, responded to a 911 call of a fire at a Surf Avenue apartment building in Coney Island. When the cops arrived on the 13th floor, the location of the fire, they were overcome by toxic smoke. Responding firefighters found both officers unconscious and rescued them from the building.

set it on fire. He admitted to igniting the deadly blaze and told investigators, according to evidence submitted at trial, “I decided to take a lighter and light the top of the mattress because I was bored.” He was convicted of causing a death while committing a felony, namely, arson.

vere smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning. Guerra, a second-generation police officer, fell into coma and succumbed to his injuries three days later.

Rodriguez, who lives in Lindenwood, was released from Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan more than a month after the incident.

On June 14, 2016, Dockery was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for murder.

“We will always remember Dennis with great sadness, but also pride,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said at Guerra’s funeral at St. Rose of Lima Church in Far Rockaway. “He was truly one of New York’s Finest.”

Brooklyn Man Indicted for Ferocious Attack of Ozone Park Mom in front of her Toddler

Cusenza A Queens grand jury has indicted a Brooklyn man for the violent October 2018 assault of a woman walking with her 4-year-old son in the vicinity of 84th Street in Ozone Park, Chief Assistant District Attorney John Ryan, on behalf of Queens DA Richard Brown, announced on Thursday.

Derrick Chirse, 58, who lives in East Flatbush, was arraigned Thursday on an indictment charging him with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fifth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Justice Barry Kron continued to hold Chirse in lieu of $100,000 bail and set the return date for June 13.

According to the charges, Chirse approached the victim, Taslima Mazumder, 35, who was walking on 84th Street near Atlantic Avenue with her 4-year-old son at approximately 2 p.m. on Oct. 1, 2018. Shortly after approaching the victim, Chirse is alleged to have ordered her to hand over her purse; she refused to comply with his demand. Chirse allegedly responded by repeatedly punching the mother multiple times in her head and chest. He then allegedly reached over the unconscious victim, snatched her purse and fled the scene on foot.

Brown called Chirse’s alleged actions “extremely troubling…Not only did he apparently feel it necessary to rob a young woman of her personal property, but he also allegedly assaulted her in front of her young son.”

Chirse, who was arrested the following day at Kingsboro Star Men’s Shelter on Clarkson Avenue in East Flatbush after being identified on video surveillance, allegedly admitted to committing the crime, telling detectives “I wish I never did it. If she would’ve given me the 10 bucks I wouldn’t have punched her.”

If convicted, Chirse faces up to life in prison due to his lengthy arrest record and status as a persistent predicate felon, a spokesperson for the Queens District Attorney’s Office told The Forum this week.

The Chirse incident was one of two attacks by homeless men in South Queens in a seven-day period last year. On Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, around 11:30 p.m., another woman was punched on 101st Avenue in Ozone Park before her husband stepped in to ward off the undomiciled assailant.

The assaults irritated an already frayed nerve in the area. The Ozone Park Residents Block Association pointed to the violence during several protests in front of 85-15 101st Ave., the site of a City shelter that originally was set to house 113 single men with mental illness.

Brazen Burglars Break into St. Helen’s Church, Steal Hundreds in Cash from Donation Boxes

By Michael V. Cusenza Two cruel crooks broke into a beloved Catholic church in Howard Beach early Thursday morning and stole hundreds of dollars in cash from donation boxes, authorities announced on Friday.

According to police reports, a black man and woman, both 30 to 40 years old, forced their way in the front door to St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church on 83rd Street around 3 a.m. The female perpetrator pilfered approximately $400 from four containers positioned in the nave of the church near the doors. She was clearly captured on security footage casually rifling through one of the coffers. The thieves fled the scene in a red four-door sedan, cops noted.

The lifted loot was donated by parishioners and goes to various charities that provide aid to the indigent and other Church initiatives.

“It is appalling to think that there are people who would rob from anyone or any place, especially a church,” Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic President Joann Ariola Shanks said on Tuesday. The civic holds its monthly meetings inside St. Helen Catholic Academy, which is directly across-the-street from the church.

“I guess the thieves weren’t mindful of God’s eighth commandment: ‘Thou shalt not steal,’” Ariola Shanks added.

As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made.

“We posted it online and the hopefully someone will call,” the 106th Precinct executive officer, Capt. Mike Edmonds, told The Forum.

Ulrich Asks: Where’s our Access to Bike Share?

By Michael V. Cusenza City Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) this week called on the de Blasio administration to allow Citi Bike’s competitors to serve so-called transportation

deserts—NYC communities that have limited access to transit resources—including many of the South Queens neighborhoods in his 32nd Council District.

“Citi Bike’s recent string of expansion announcements has left me wondering when my constituents will get fair access to bike share,” Ulrich wrote Tuesday in a letter addressed to Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg and DOT Deputy Commissioner for Policy Michael Replogle.

The councilman also notes in his missive that there “is an easy enough solution for this problem,” and that the agency has the power to enact it.

“Since Citi Bike won’t come to Howard Beach or New Dorp or Mott Haven or dozens of other neighborhoods, you should allow Citi Bike’s competitors to expand in these areas,” Ulrich posited. “Healthy competition and choice are two important values that drive New York City’s economy, and it makes no sense that millions of New Yorkers should have to live with a monopoly that doesn’t even serve them.”

The councilman later notes in his letter that healthy competition and choice would bolster access to bike share for his underserved constituents, and that it “wouldn’t even take very long” to get going.

“It’s time to give other bike share companies a shot at growing their fleets and expanding their footprints across the city,” Ulrich added.

A DOT spokesperson told The Forum on Wednesday, “We look forward to reviewing the Council Member’s letter when we receive it.”

South Ozone Park Woman Missing Police this week reached out to the public via social media for help in locating a woman who was last seen in South Ozone Park last week.

According to 106th Precinct detectives, Bonita Lugo was last seen on April 3 in the vicinity of 149th Avenue and 128th Street.

Lugo has no identification and suffers from depression, attentiondeficit/hyperactivity disorder, and is bi-polar.

Schumer Pushes JFK Opioid Detection Plan

By Michael v. Cusenza Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer this week promoted his plan to beef-up what he calls “New York’s fentanyl firewall”: John F. Kennedy International Airport— and the local post offices it supplies.

Specifically, the Empire State’s senior senator wants New York to receive at least 30 percent of a $16 million dollar fund justproposed by the administration to enhance opioid detection equipment and safeguards across the country.

In February, Schumer unveiled a firstever fentanyl sanctions bill to hold the Chinese government accountable for “frustrating inaction” on the trafficking of the illicit synthetic opioid pain reliever to the United States.

According to Schumer, the Fentanyl Sanctions Act would give law enforcement and the intelligence community more tools to combat the opioid epidemic, empower the President to call-out foreign traffickers and use economic sanctions, similar to the kinds used to respond to Vladimir Putin and Russian oligarchs, to cripple foreign labs and apply economic pressure to countries turning a blind eye to fentanyl drug production and trafficking.

On Sunday, while noting that the Fentanyl Sanctions Act now has “strong bipartisan support,” Schumer announced he will add a New York-specific request to his national plan: critical detection and infrastructure upgrades at JFK’s international mail processing facility, the largest in the nation.

Schumer disclosed his intention to push for new and needed funds at JFK’s mail processing facility of “at least $5 million dollars.” Schumer explained the President’s just-proposed budget sets aside $16 million nationally for these kinds of upgrades and that New York needs at least 30 percent

of those funds to combat China’s fentanyl shipping system.

“As the biggest International mail processing facility in the Nation, JFK should be New York’s fentanyl firewall and filter out illicit fentanyl and other opioids at our local post offices. We need to both beef it up and make sure it has the real-time tools to meet everyday demands,” the senator said. “We know China’s opioid assembly line to New York and Long Island starts at JFK, but it can end there, too, and that is what tough sanctions accompanied by new fed funds can help us deliver: a wrench to China’s opioid supply chain.

“JFK’s facility needs continuous upgrades to keep pace with fast-changing methods by traffickers,” Schumer added.

“We need more canines, staff, new infrastructure to the processing facility, and state-of-the-art detection equipment.”

Schumer’s fentanyl sanctions legislation would: • Require imposition of sanctions on drug manufacturers in China who knowingly provide synthetic opioids to traffickers, transnational criminal organizations like those in Mexico who mix fentanyl with other drugs and traffic them into the U.S., and financial institutions that assist such entities.

• Authorize new funding to law enforcement and intelligence agencies, including the Departments of Treasury, Defense, and State, to combat the foreign trafficking of opioids.

• Urge the President to commence diplomatic efforts with U.S. partners to establish multilateral sanctions against foreign opioid traffickers.

• Establish a Commission on Synthetic Opioid Trafficking to monitor U.S. efforts and report on how to more effectively combat the flow of synthetic opioids from China, Mexico and elsewhere.

EDITORIAL Alternative Facts On June 1, District Attorney Richard Brown will retire due to health reasons after 28 years as district attorney. The process of determining his successor is underway. Whoever the people choose to replace him will inherit an office that, with all due respect to our colleagues, is the best in the state. While I will not endorse or oppose any candidate, I will not remain silent if the record of our office is misstated or distorted during this campaign either out of ignorance or malice or both. On behalf of the men and women of this office, I will submit reports to the people of Queens informing them, and perhaps educating some of the candidates along the way, about what their district attorney has done to protect all the people of Queens. The first report will focus on alternative sentencing.

After stating which crimes they won’t prosecute and which defendants they won’t jail, the candidates clamor for alternatives to incarceration, as if none exist in Queens. They are either terribly misinformed, or deliberately misrepresenting the facts.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office, under Judge Brown, has been an innovator in treatment programs, alternative sentencing and specialized courts for more than a quarter century. One could say that he has been a “progressive” in this area long before that term was popular.

We have had a dedicated director of Alternative Sentencing for almost 20 years, a non-attorney, clinical professional, who coordinates the office’s alternative sentencing initiatives and specialized courts.

Queens County has had a Drug Treatment Court for 20 years. We were the first county to establish a Veterans Treatment Court and a Human Trafficking Court. We have a Misdemeanor Treatment Court, a Misdemeanor Mental Health Court, and both a misdemeanor and felony Youth Part.

We operate a Queens DWI Treatment Court—the first of its kind in New York City.

We have placed more than 4,000 defendants on alcohol monitoring devices and have a successful completion rate of 91 percent.

We were the first office in the city to collaborate with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to establish Victim Impact Panels, where defendants charged with DWI hear from families and victims of drunk driving. The program is now in all five counties. We do all the monitoring for the entire City of New York for the Ignition Interlock Device Program to reduce drunk driving.

We have had a Domestic Violence Bureau since 2000. We were one of the first counties in the state to establish a Family Justice Center: a walk-in, integrated service center for victims of family violence. We co-operate the Child Advo-

cacy Center, where crimes against children are investigated and young victims and their families can receive counseling and services.

We have pre-arraignment diversion programs for defendants charged with marijuana, shoplifting and vehicular crimes, where defendants charged with those crimes perform community service or attend counseling and have their cases dismissed prior to arraignment.

We are also a partner on the Queens Reentry Task Force in an effort to reduce recidivism by coordinating services for individuals transitioning from incarceration back into the community.

Our Queens Treatment Intervention Program was established in 2018 in response to the ongoing opioid crisis. QTIP is a collaborative program with Samaritan Daytop Village that focuses on misdemeanor non-violent individuals who are addicted to opioids, with the goal of preventing fatal overdoses. The program has been highly successful since its inception— with more than 240 individuals evaluated and 88 percent qualifying for treatment services.

All in all, our office sponsors, or is part of, more than 30 alternative sentencing programs. We put thousands of people in these programs every year, and we have been expanding them since Judge Brown became district attorney. Our goal is to seek the best outcome for the defendant and the public. If

we can put an individual into a program that will resolve the issues that caused him or her to commit a crime, we are more than happy to do it. And we do it every day.

These programs have been developed over the years with the experience of both success and failure. Running a district attorney’s office is not about snappy slogans and the latest fad. It is hard work. It is risky work. It is not about releasing career criminals from jail solely for the purpose of further reducing the population in a city that has already slashed those in custody by more than 42 percent over just the last 10 years. It is about doing what is right, it is about doing justice for all. In some instances justice for a defendant and society is an alternative sentencing program, in other situations incarceration is what justice requires. The people of Queens have had, and deserve to continue to have, a district attorney that knows when to pick one over the other.

Victims are entitled to justice too, yet “victim” is a word that is missing from much of the current campaign rhetoric. The people deserve a DA that never forgets victims. We do what is right because that is what Judge Brown has taught us—all could learn from him—including those who seek to replace him.

Jamaica Man Sentenced to up to Life in Prison for Slaying Ex-Girlfriend

By Forum Staff A Jamaica man has been sentenced to up to life in prison for the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, whose bloodied body was discovered inside of her car days after she had been reported missing in October 2016, Chief Assistant District Attorney John Ryan, on behalf of Queens DA Richard Brown, recently announced.

Qwantrell Gilliam, 43, was convicted last month of second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Last Wednesday, Gilliam was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on the murder charge; one and one-third to four years on the tampering with physical evidence charge; and one year on the criminal possession of a weapon charge, all to run concurrent, Ryan noted.

According to trial testimony, at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2016, detectives from the 113th Precinct—acting on a missing person’s report—discovered the body of Dayo Corley, 43, inside of her parked car in the vicinity of 122nd Avenue and Lakeview Lane. Corley’s last minutes of life included being stabbed multiple times and having her neck compressed and punctured. Blood was splattered on

According to trial records, Corley was last seen shortly before 1:45 a.m. on Oct. 29. She had just left a hair salon on Merrick Boulevard. Phone records showed her traveling to the vicinity of Lakeview Lane and 122nd Avenue after speaking to Gilliam. Surveillance cameras captured Gilliam walking near 122nd Avenue, where the victim’s car was recovered. Gilliam is seen walking towards Lakeview Lane, shortly after 1:50 a.m. At approximately 2:30 a.m., Gilliam is seen again on surveillance video in possession of a knife, opening a bottle and then pouring liquid over his hands and finally walking towards a nearby metal trash can, where he disposed of the murder weapon.

Furthermore, said Chief ADA Ryan, according to several witnesses who testified in court, Gilliam had been harassing Corley after their June 2016 break up with calls to her cell phone, and he’d even been accused of destroying property that belonged to her just weeks before he killed her.

Flushing Man Indicted in Stabbing Death of Daughter-in-Law

By Forum Staff A borough grand jury has indicted a Flushing man for the savage fatal stabbing of his daughter-in-law in broad daylight on the streets of Ridgewood last month, Chief Assistant District Attorney John Ryan on behalf of Queens DA Richard Brown, announced on Friday.

Dahe Lin, 76, has been arraigned on an indictment charging him with seconddegree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. According to court records, a psychiatric exam has been ordered as Lin remains remanded in the custody of the City Department of Correction. His next court date is scheduled for May 7.

He sustained several lacerations to her neck. By Forum Staff A Forest Hills woman employed as a Licensed Filing Representative has been arrested on charges of forging the credentials of a Professional Engineer on documents filed with the City Department of Buildings, the Department of Investigation announced on Thursday.

According to DOI, the forgeries made it appear that the Professional Engineer prepared the submitted documents, when in fact the Professional Engineer did not authorize the use of his stamp for those documents.

Evelyn Dellutri, 55, was arraigned on Thursday on charges of multiple counts of second-degree forgery; second-degree perjury; first-degree offering a false instrument for filing; falsifying business records in the first degree; fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property; and conspiracy in the fifth-degree.

DOI’s probe began on a tip that the defendant was submitting forged documentation to the City.

According to the criminal complaint and DOI’s investigation, between November 2014 and August 2015, Dellutri submitted a variety of documents to DOB, which were necessary for construction in Queens, including a PW-1 or Plan/Work Application, which is an application for a DOB construction permit, construction plans submitted as part of that PW-1, and a TR-1, or Technical Report Statement of Responsibility, which are the results of the engineer’s inspection of the completed construction. Approximately 70 of these forged documents were submitted to DOB in connection with commercial construction; and which fraudulently bore the stamp of a Professional Engineer who had not authorized his stamp to be used on those documents. On some of

the filings, “Evelsons Consultant, Inc.” is listed as the Professional Engineer’s business name; however, the Professional Engineer stated that he has never done business under that name.

DOB records connect Evelsons Consultant, Inc. with Dellutri. The investigation resulted in the recovery of the Professional Engineer’s stamp in Dellutri’s residence.

DOI requested that DOB conduct an audit of these jobs and as a result of that audit six Notice of Objections were uncovered raising the following issues: missing items from the drawings; the need for cost estimates for proposed work to be verified; the need for a new Certificate of Occupancy and approved plans; and a sprinkler head did not match the drawings. These projects were put on hold and remain pending.

“In allegedly forging the credentials of a professional engineer, this defendant potentially compromised the integrity of commercial construction projects and attempted to circumvent a process meant to keep City construction safe, according to the charges,” said DOI Commissioner Margaret Garnett.

“These actions led to plans being submitted with missing drawings and other problems that could have posed risks to the reliability of the construction work.”

The office of Queens District Attorney Richard Brown is prosecuting the case.

On behalf of DA Brown, Chief Assistant DA John Ryan said that Dellutri “is accused of using a professional stamp in a fraudulent manner, sidestepping procedures and a key safety feature. These professional stamps are a key component in verifying that a competent, licensed professional has certified that construction plans are in compliance with applicable City code and rules. This kind of malfeasance will not be tolerated.”

By Forum Staff A former Forest Hills criminal defense attorney has been convicted of conspiring to make a false statement and making a false statement, federal prosecutors announced on Friday.

Specifically, Scott Brettschneider, 62, an attorney admitted to practice in the state of New York since 1987, wrote a false letter to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons to assist an inmate in gaining entry to a substance abuse program in order to fraudulently obtain an early release from prison.

According to officials, the charges stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Queens District Attorney’s Office. The evidence at trial proved that between October 2014 and January 2015, Brettschneider, Charles Gallman, and Reginald ShabazzMuhammad conspired to make false statements in a letter to a BOP employee regarding inmate Richard Marshall’s treatment for substance and alcohol abuse in an effort to help Marshall fraudulently gain entry to the Residential Drug Abuse Program at U.S. Penitentiary Lewisburg in Pennsylvania. In an Oct. 24, 2014, call on Gallman’s phone that was intercepted by law enforcement, Marshall explained to Brettschneider that he needed a letter from a “drug program” to which Brettschneider responded, “alright, alright, we’ll work on that Monday. Ok, I know who to talk to.” Brettschneider, Marshall, and ShabazzMuhammad, who claimed to be the director of program services at Muhammad Mosque No. 7, falsely stated that Marshall had previously been enrolled in the Mosque’s treatment program between 2003 and 2010 to reduce his purported “active drug dependence.”

An inmate who is accepted into the RDAP and successfully completes the treatment program is eligible to receive up to a year off his sentence.

Marshall pleaded guilty to conspiracy to make false statements, and was sentenced on Oct. 6, 2018, to three years’ probation and a fine of $1,500. Shabazz-Muhammad pleaded guilty to making false statements, and was sentenced on Jan. 30, 2019, to two years’ probation and a fine of $1,000. Gallman pleaded guilty to conspiracy to make false statements and to violating the Travel Act for bribing a witness, and was sentenced on March 20, 2019, to three years’ imprisonment.

“Brettschneider, a longtime attorney, has been found guilty by a jury of brazenly violating the law he was sworn to uphold by scheming to write a phony letter to help his client get into a drug treatment program and become eligible for early release from prison,” said Brooklyn United States Attorney Richard Donoghue. “This office is committed to protecting the integrity of federal programs for drug abuse treatment, to ensure that help is available for those truly in need and not those merely looking for a get-out-of-jail card.”

When sentenced, Brettschneider, who now resides in North Carolina, faces up to five years in prison.

“Integrity is the foundation of our criminal justice system,” Queens DA Richard Brown said back in March 2018, when Brettschneider & Co. were indicted. “These allegations go to the core of that foundation and are prejudicial to the administration of justice.

The charges today send a strong message to those who would undermine that integrity that they will be held accountable. No one can be allowed to ‘fix’ any part of a case.”

– When your symptoms become progressively worse however, it is more likely that you have a cold.

– Itchy eyes, throat and nose – along with sneezing – usually indicate allergies.

If you have asthma, you are more likely to have allergies – nearly three quarters of people with asthma have an allergy to accompany an already bad situation.

Borough Pimps Sentenced to Prison after Pleading Guilty to Sex Trafficking

By Forum Staff A Springfield Gardens man has been sentenced to up to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sex trafficking, and his female partner from St. Albans has been ordered to be incarcerated for up to four years following her admission to promoting prostitution, Chief Assistant District Attorney John Ryan, on behalf of Queens DA Richard Brown, announced on Tuesday.

Terrance (a.k.a. “Staxx”) Jackman, 37, and Zulay (a.k.a. “Mocca”) Guerrero, 36, were both indicted twice for pimping out young women as far back as February 2013, Ryan noted. Their victims were threatened, physically abused, and coerced into trading sex for cash.

Last month, Jackman pleaded guilty to two counts of sex trafficking in satisfaction of both indictments. Guerrero also pleaded guilty last month to fourth-degree conspiracy and third-degree promoting prostitution. On Tuesday, Jackman was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison and Guerrero was sentenced to one and one-third to four years’ incarceration.

On June 30, 2017, the victim was driven to a location to have sexual relations with a stranger for money and while there she told the man that she had been kidnapped and he let her escape. The victim immediately called 911 and told police she had been kidnapped by a pimp.
