State Sen. Jose Peralta Dies at 47

By Michael V. Cusenza State Sen. Jose Peralta, the first Latino from Queens elected to the State Legislature, died last Wednesday night at Elmhurst Hospital. He was 47.

Though the official cause of death is sudden septic shock, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is still running tests to determine what led to the blood infection that ultimately took the lawmaker’s life.

“The senator’s family asks for privacy as they grieve. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love we’ve received amid this heartbreaking loss,” Peralta spokesman Chris Sosa wrote in a statement issued on Thanksgiving.

Jose Rafael Peralta was a first-generation Dominican-American who was born in Washington Heights. The Peralta family moved to The World’s Borough when Jose was 8 years old. He would go on to graduate from Flushing High School and earn a degree in psychology from Queens College, where he was the first Latino Student Body President.

After graduating, Peralta worked as a community liaison in the Assembly and as a staffer on the election campaigns of State Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky (D-Flushing), Hillary Clinton, Alan Hevesi, and Brian

McLaughlin. Bitten by the proverbial political bug, Peralta ran for the Assembly District 39 (Corona, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights) seat in 2002 and won in a landslide.

“We are saddened by the sudden passing of Senator Jose Peralta,” said Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. “Jose, who began his legislative career in the People’s House,

was a strong voice for working families. He was determined to strengthen New York’s public schools and gun safety measures, and fight for rights for immigrants. He was a friend and a true public servant. On behalf of his New York State Assembly family, I offer our deepest condolences to his family, friends and constituents.”

He served in the Assembly until March 2010, when he won a special election to fill the State Senate District 13 seat left vacant after Hiram Monserrate was expelled. Peralta represented the interests of the residents and business owners of Corona, East Elmhurst, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, and Woodside in the State Senate for the last 10 years, serving on the committees on Cities, Finance, Banks, Education, Higher Education, Transportation, Energy and Telecommunications, and Codes. He was also a member of the Latino Caucus.

Earlier this year, Peralta lost the District 13 Democratic primary to the eventual State Senator-elect Jessica Ramos. The defeat was largely attributed to Peralta’s decision to join the now-defunct Independent Democratic Caucus in 2017.

“Even after losing his primary election last September, his constituents remained his top priority,” Heastie noted. “Just days ago, Jose was coordinating a flu shot clinic in his district and distributing turkeys for those in need this Thanksgiving.”

Feds to Fund World’s Fair Pavilion Repair

By Forum Staff More than $16 million in federal funding will be used for repairs at the World’s Fair Pavilion in Flushing, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (both DN.Y.) announced on Monday.

The funding, which was allocated through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, will be provided to the City Office of Management and Budget and has been earmarked for the repair and replacement of several electrical units at the World’s Fair Park, which were severely damaged during Superstorm Sandy.

The money will also be used to implement mitigation measures to prevent future flooding damage, the senators noted. According to FEMA, hazard mitigation measures are any sustainable action taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from future disasters. The HMGP supports costeffective post-disaster projects and is the longest running mitigation program among FEMA’s three grant programs. Studies have shown that every $1 spent equals $4 of future damages mitigated.

reoccurring damages. This will include dry flood proofing the vaults to protect the electrical equipment, installing a roof hatch above flood elevation level, and installing pumps in each vault to remove any water that leaks in.

“These fixes are an important step in recovering from the damage that [Superstorm] Sandy caused and will help revitalize the World’s Fair Pavilion for future generations to enjoy.”

Schumer echoed Gillibrand’s sentiment.

“Now the pavilion is being restored and these federal funds will be used to repair damages caused by Superstorm Sandy and help yet another community asset recover after the storm,” New York’s senior senator added.

South Ozone Park School Selected for NYC Junior Ambassadors Program

By Forum Staff A South Ozone Park school has been selected to participate in the 2018-2019 NYC Junior Ambassadors program, Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced.

Junior High School 226 on Rockaway Boulevard is one of just 20 schools across the five boroughs to earn a spot in the program that immerses seventh-grade students and educators in the work of the United Nations in order to build young global leaders prepared to address urgent world issues starting with action in their own local communities.

According to the administration, each class selected for the NYC Junior Ambassadors program will incorporate the United Nations and its work on the Sustainable Development Goals to address poverty, inequality, and climate change into their curriculum, with educators teaching subject areas ranging from science to arts to language. All participants will receive a curated tour of the UN headquarters in Manhattan tailored to their class’s curricular interest, and a classroom visit from a senior diplomat.

Junior Ambassadors will also attend a special year-end celebration and receive a certificate acknowledging their participation in the program.

Christ the King to Kick off Holiday Season

The Christ the King High School community is set to kick off the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 30.

Bring your kids and cameras for pictures with Santa and the indoor Winter Wonderland filled with games and activities.

According to the Middle Village school, the event will begin at 6 p.m. with the lighting of the tree, followed by the CK Musical Theater Group’s preview of its upcoming

Opioid Programs Need Better Coordination: DiNapoli

By Forum Staff Some individuals on Medicaid receiving treatment for opioid use disorder might have been prescribed unnecessary or dangerous opioid medications outside of their treatment programs, according to an audit issued on Monday by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.

The report noted that the State maintains a database to monitor prescription drug use, known as the Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing, which contains records of all controlled substances that were dispensed in the state and reported by a pharmacy or dispenser. I-STOP is a tool to help prescribers determine the most appropriate prescriptions for an individual. Opioid treatment programs are not required to disclose the medications they provide to patients, but should check for a patient’s other opioid use on I-STOP, and in certain instances they are required to do so.

If a treatment program becomes aware of outside prescriptions, the program can ask for patient consent to consult with other health care providers on the patient's medical condition and situation. Treatment programs are required to obtain consent from the patient prior to sharing treatment information with other practitioners.

DiNapoli's auditors examined State Department of Health records from Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2017 and identified 18,786 Medicaid recipients who received 208,198 prescriptions for opioids through the Medicaid program while also receiving opioids, usually methadone, as part of a treatment program for opioid use disorder.

Auditors found 33 percent of Medicaid recipients in treatment programs received prescription opioids outside of their program.

medical care for an overdose within 30 days of obtaining a prescription. Specifically, 493 needed medical care as a result of 691 opioid or narcotic overdoses that occurred within a month of receiving a prescription opioid. Twelve of those individuals died during the time of their medical care involving the overdose.

Comptroller’s Office officials reviewed the medical records for a sample of 25 Medicaid recipients from three treatment programs.

Auditors also analyzed Medicaid data and determined these individuals received 1,065 Medicaid opioid prescriptions while they were in treatment for opioid abuse. According to the audit, on average, these recipients were in their treatment programs for nearly 3.5 years. However, auditors found treatment programs did not check I-STOP for every recipient. For the 25 individuals, I-STOP was checked only 18 times. Auditors also found that I-STOP was not checked every time a medication-assisted opioid was dispensed for take-home use, as required by State law.

Auditors found that 13 of the 25 recipients were asked at least once during treatment to sign a consent form to coordinate care with the recipient's opioid prescriber. However, three of the 13 recipients declined to sign the form. Treatment programs were aware of 566 of the 1,065 opioid prescriptions (53 percent) provided to the 25 patients. Auditors found that consent to coordinate care was obtained regarding just 85 of the 1,065 prescriptions (8 percent) and care coordination occurred for only 59 of the 1,065 prescriptions (6 percent).

“The State Department of Health should take steps to help treatment programs and health care providers work together to prevent overdoses that could lead to hospitalizations or death,” DiNapoli said.

EDITORIAL DON'T WAIT Why do we wait for a catastrophe, death, or some other negative event to strike before we say or do the right thing?

We know it’s an incredibly difficult question to answer, one that we’ve mulled over for many years; perhaps we’ll saddle the philosophers and psychologists with that duty.

Think back to the hours and days following a public tragedy and you’ll undoubtedly recall the kindest words about victims emanating from the mouths of sworn enemies who waited too long to do the right thing and put down their swords. Where was the hyper-partisanship, the inherent divisiveness, the tedious bickering and finger pointing from political rivals in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks? After evacuating the Capitol earlier in the day, roughly 150 members of Congress came together in the evening on the building’s East Front steps. According to Office of the History, Art & Archives of the U.S. House of Representatives, “Senators stood by Representatives, Democrats next to Republicans, and the leadership of both houses gathered as a symbol of strength for a country shocked and saddened by the day’s barbaric acts of terrorism.” After they observed a moment of silence, the elected officials performed an impromptu rendition of “God Bless America.”

Many of us are at very little risk of serious injury while at our jobs, but there are those who work in physically demanding and hazardous lines of work who are at increased risk, especially this time of year.

Federal guidelines have been in place to protect those at work, but despite these rules, accidents still occur regularly due to safety violations. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) was created by Congress in 1971 to ensure safe and healthy working conditions by enforcing workplace laws and standards, and also by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance. OSHA requirements dictate that employers should train their employees on hazards and how to prevent accidents, and directs employers to keep proper records of injures. OSHA is also responsible for enforcing these rules.

So it took roughly 3,000 people to perish for something like this to happen? And it was so out of practice, so novel that the leader of the free world cited it in one of the most important speeches in the history of our republic.

Remember the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings? Everyone was Boston Strong that week. The images of the arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev four days after the attacks on Boylston Street are indelible—not just for the drama and significance of the moment, but because we also witnessed hundreds if not thousands of people cheering on police officers and chanting their names. Why did it take four deaths and nearly 300 wounded for a community to positively erupt like that?

The sudden death of State Sen. Jose Peralta brought our original existential inquiry to the fore again. Peralta passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Elmhurst Hospital from a blood infection. The married father of two boys was just 47 years old.

The outpouring of positive, gleaming comments from some of his political rivals has been heartwarming. The push to name the DREAM Act in honor of the legislator has been comforting. But why did it take this man’s sudden death to inspire such a reaction?

It seems that demise is the fuel for doing the right thing. We shouldn’t have to wait for tragedy to talk about one another’s triumphs.

According to OSHA, falls from heights account for roughly 39 percent of all construction deaths. OSHA can issue fines and refer for criminal prosecution if employers fail to follow the law. However, the reality is that there are just not enough inspectors to visit every work site in New York State. As a result, some unscrupulous employers may be lax and fail to provide the proper safety instructions and equipment to their employees. If OSHA doesn’t have the personnel to inspect, then how can we protect these workers from engaging in activities that might put them in unwarranted danger?

In New York, Labor Law 240 – otherwise known as the Scaffold Safety Law – was enacted to protect workers from unsafe conditions. Take a look around you as you drive into Manhattan and you will see a building boom taking place.

The Scaffold Safety Law directs contractors and owners to follow the law and provide safety devices to prevent falls. Workers have very little control over equipment that is provided at the workplace and may rely, to their detriment, on those who hire them or those who are responsible for the site where they are assigned.

Therefore, if a worker is injured as a result of a failure by the contractor/owner, the contractor/owner can be held accountable for resulting injuries. The Scaffold Safety law is just another incentive for the contractor/owner to follow these important safety rules.

Statistics prove that the Scaffold Safety law has made construction work safer.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, from 2000-2010, New York

had the firth lowest construction injury rate. It not only directs the employer to provide proper safety equipment, but mandates that workers follow directions on the worksite or they cannot hold the contractor/owner responsible. At least if OSHA cannot be at every work place, it is comforting to know that there is a law on the books that contributes to the safety of the men and women who help this City grow.

Corona Man, 17, Charged with Series of Knife-Point Robberies

By Forum Staff Alfonso Martinez, 17, of Van Cleef Street, approached his victims - mostly women - from behind, threatening them with a sharp object then running off with their belongings.

“The defendant in this case is accused of going on a knife-point robbery spree in October. The young defendant’s violence escalated with each robbery - - from stabbing and slashing to pummeling a woman in the face to the point that her front tooth was broken," explained DA Brown.

Martinez is in custody and was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge David Kirschner on a complaint charging him with first- and second-degree assault, first- and second degree robbery, first-degree attempted robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

On October 24, 2018, the teen began a series of holdups at approximately 10 p.m. The first victim, a woman walking on 94th Street was approached from behind. Martinez placed a knife to her throat. Martinez spoke Spanish, and demanded her mobile phone and purse and threatened to cut her if she did not comply. The victim gave up her iPhone and purse with about $600 in cash, and Marti-

nez ran off. At approximately 11:30 p.m., another woman walking on 104th Street was grabbed from behind and had a hand placed over her mouth. This time Martinez reached into the victim's pocket took her cell phone and stabbed her in the upper arm and lower wrist as he fled the scene.

On that same night at around 11:40 p.m., another woman was approached from behind and had a knife held to her throat. In Spanish, Martinez ordered her to give him her bag. He then pulled the bag from her shoulder and slashed her forearm with the blade. Then on October 28, the defendant targeted a man, moments after he exited an Uber and was walking on 103rd Street. He placed a knife to his neck and again in Spanish, ordered the man to give up his money and phone. Before running off, Martinez stabbed him twice in the neck.

On October 30, 2018, the violent teen pounced on another woman walking on Alstyne Avenue shortly after midnight. She was hit on the back of the head with an unknown object and knocked to the ground. Man Sentenced to 2.5 Years in Prison for Hit-and-Run Crash that Injured Elderly Pedestrian on Thanksgiving 2017

By Forum Staff A 53-year-old Queens man driving with a suspended license has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to assault and other charges.

The defendant sped through a stop sign while driving under the influence of alcohol and critically injured a 71- yearold man on Thanksgiving Day last year.

“In pleading guilty, the defendant has now admitted to driving while intoxicated and seriously injuring a 71-year-old man on Thanksgiving Day last year,” said DA Brown.

The defendant is identified as Carmine Minichino, 53, of 46th Avenue in Corona.

Pro Fundraisers Keep Nearly 1/3 of Donations: Report

State Attorney General Barbara Underwood recently released the annual “Pennies for Charity” report.

By Forum Staff Nearly one-third of charitable donations ended up in the pockets of professional fundraisers, according to a report released on Monday by the State Attorney General’s Office.

The annual analysis, “Pennies for Charity: Where Your Money Goes; Fundraising

by Professional Fundraisers,” showed that of the more than $1.18 billion raised in 2017 through 964 campaigns conducted by professional fundraisers, New York charities netted more than $812 million, or 69 percent of the proceeds, while professional fundraisers’ fees and expenses totaled $372 million, or 31 percent.

Other significant findings from analyzing the 964 fundraising campaigns covered by this report include: In 313 campaigns, or approximately 32 percent of the campaigns covered in the analysis, fundraisers retained more than 50 percent of the funds raised, with 49 percent or less going to the charity; and in 156 campaigns (16 percent), fundraising expenses exceeded charitable revenue. In 2017, this loss to charities totaled more than $10 million.

This year’s report also looked at recent fundraising trends, such as the increase in use of crowdfunding platforms. Telemarketing, while continuing to decline as a fundraising method, remained among the costliest mechanisms, with 271 telemarketing campaigns by fundraisers retaining more than 50 percent of funds raised for charities.

This year’s “Pennies for Charity” also featuresadvice for donors, including specific guidance for responding to phone, direct mail, or online solicitations. Key tips include: Take Time to Research the Organization: Make sure you are familiar with the organization, its mission, and its effective-

ness before giving. Always ask for information in writing – and be wary if an organization will not provide information about its charitable programs and finances upon request. Consult sites such as charitiesnys. com and charitynavigator.org.

Know where Your Money Will Go: Ask specifically how the charity plans to use your donation, including the services and organizations your donation will support.

Don’t Be Pressured by Telemarketers: Telemarketers are required to identify themselves and their employer and tell you they are being paid to call you. They also must respond truthfully to your questions. Don’t fall for pressure tactics, such as repeated phone calls or threats. These are signs that the organization may not be legitimate. Always remember you have the right to say no to any charitable request.

Ask to Be Put On a “Do Not Call” List: You have the right to request to be placed on the telemarketer’s “Do Not Call” list.

It is not illegal for telemarketers for charities to call telephone numbers on the Federal Trade Commission’s Do Not Call Registry, but consumers can stop such calls by telling telemarketers not to call them on behalf of specific charities. Telemarketers are required to honor such requests. You may also ask a charity to take you off its solicitation list.

Don’t Disclose Personal Information: Never give your social security number or other personal information in response to a charitable solicitation. Never give out credit card information over the phone or to an organization you are not familiar with.

Never Give Cash. Give your contribution by check made payable to the charity.

BRONCHIOLITIS: What you should know Local pediatric offices have seen a rise recently in the number of cases of bronchiolitis (no, we didn't spell that incorrectly) and many parents, may be unfamiliar with the condition, and might confuse the illness with the like sounding bronchitis.

Although this condition that affects mainly young children and infants, sounds like the bronchitis, they are very different illnesses.

Bronchiolitis can have different origins; most of them stem from a virus. It's actually a common lung infection that causes swelling in the bronchioles, the smallest of the lungs airways. When they swell, the amount of air able to enter the lungs is restricted, making it difficult for the baby to breathe.

Bronchitis, on the other hand, affects both adults and children. It affects the larger airways in the lungs and causes excessive mucous production. Your body tries to get used to the mucous by coughing.

Bronchiolitis is most common in infants between 3 and 6 months of age but can occur in children as old 2 years.

Treatments vary and while antibiotics are not the usual method nebulizer treatments or steroids can be. These meds help kids breathe easily during recovery.

For most babies, it's no more serious than a cold but some may need hospital care, and it is a common reason for babies to be admitted to the hospital.

Some babies are at greater risk to develop the condition, including premature babies or those with certain heart and lung conditions.

Bronchiolitis occurs most often in the months between October and March, and it is possible for a baby to develop it more than once in the same winter.

Most cases, around 75%, are caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Other causal viruses are Adenovirus and Rhinovirus. These spread through tiny droplets of liquid sent into the air when someone who is infected coughs or sneezes. A child can become infected if they touch a toy or a surface where a droplet has landed.

There are simple steps to reduce the risk of your child contracting bronchiolitis. Make sure everyone who touches your child washes their hands and covers their mouth when they cough or sneeze.

Keep them away from other sick kids, wash toys down regularly and most important keep your baby away from any form of smoke and call your local pharmacist with anyquestions.

Gift Card Scams Have Rapidly Increased: NY AG

By Forum Staff Prompted by a sharp increase in reports of scam artists demanding payment from consumers in the form of gift cards, the State Attorney General’s Office has been working with three major retailers—Best Buy, Walmart, and Target—on reforms to their nationwide policies and practices to help protect consumers from being victimized by gift card fraud.

Gift card scams have rapidly increased in recent years, State Attorney General Barbara Underwood noted. The Federal Trade Commission recently found that 26 percent of scam victims paid with a gift card between January and September 2018, compared to only 7 percent in 2015—a 270-percent increase.

According to Underwood, the most common gift card scams are: • Grandparent Scam: The scammer impersonates a grandchild of the victim who claims to be in some sort of trouble, typically related to a car accident or arrest, and in need of money to pay for bail or a lawyer.

Victims report that the scheme was believable because the scammers knew the names and other information about their grandchild and sounded like their grandchild.

• IRS Scam: The scammer impersonates someone from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service attempting to collect taxes allegedly owed. The scammer usually threatens arrest that day if the debt is not paid immediately via gift cards. Again, the victims report that the scheme is believable because the scammers may give the name and badge number of a real IRS agent whose identity can be verified online, they may know detailed

information about the victim’s tax history, or they may send the victim an email that appears to be from an IRS domain.

• Tech Support Scam: The scammer impersonates a tech support employee claiming to work for the manufacturer of the victim’s computer. The scammer claims there is a virus and requests remote access to the victim’s computer. After the scammer “fixes” a non-existent problem, he or she demands payment for the services and refuses to unlock the computer until the victim pays.

Crooks use the gift cards almost immediately, often to purchase third-party gift cards such as iTunes, Steam, or Google Play cards. This makes it very unlikely that a victim will be able to get any money back, Underwood noted. Once a consumer falls victim to the scheme, the scammer often continues to call the victim demanding more money in gift cards, resulting in large losses to consumers. For example, one New York resident reported losing $36,000 as the result of a grandparent scam.

Some of the changes that Walmart, Best Buy, and Target have recently implemented in partnership with the Attorney General’s initiative include: reducing the total amount that a consumer can purchase in one transaction in store-branded gift cards; reducing the dollar limit that can be loaded on a store-branded gift card; placing restrictions on the redemption of store-branded gift cards, including prohibiting the redemption of store-branded gift cards for other gift cards; and enhancing employee training to help employees identify the warning signs of gift card scams

Cuomo Calls on NY House Dems to Fight for NY Priorities

By Forum Staff As members of Congress prepared this week for the upcoming legislative session, Gov. Andrew Cuomo reached out to the New York House Democratic Delegation to remind them to stand up for the people that got them to the Hill and helped the party to ultimately regain the majority of the House of Representatives.

Cuomo issued a letter on Monday to the 22 Democrats that represent New York in the House. After congratulating them on their victory earlier this month in the midterm elections—“You will play a pivotal role in history by reining in the extreme conservative agenda threatening our citizens’ rights, values, and liberties”—Cuomo called on the pols to fight for Empire State priorities, highlighting “our most urgent needs”: to fully restore the state and local tax deduction and secure full federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel project.

and was a gross act of political retaliation,” the governor wrote. “The consequence to New York and this nation cannot be understated. Eighty percent of the benefits from the Trump tax cuts go to the top 1 percent of Americans. Corporations receive a 40-percent tax break. The current cost of the SALT

bill to New York is $14.3 billion growing to $15.9 billion annually. It would make this state, and other Democratic states, considerably less economically competitive. The financial penalties commence this year. The pain will be real. Home values could drop.

Equity will be lost. I would urge you to stand

together and rally the other members in state delegations and demand that the SALT deduction is fully restored.”

Later in the missive, Cuomo called attention to “another immediate concern,” the Gateway Tunnel. The governor noted that the existing Hudson River train tunnels are seriously deteriorated and the damage was exacerbated by Superstorm Sandy. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Transportation and New York and New Jersey reached a framework agreement in which the federal government would fund 50 percent of the Gateway Tunnel project and New York and New Jersey would be responsible for financing the other half. However, the Trump administration has chosen to halt the pact.

“This should not be viewed as a project for New York and New Jersey—the economic and commercial vitality of the entire nation is at stake,” Cuomo reasoned in the letter. “It is governmental malpractice for everyone to agree that a transportation and economic crisis is looming but still no action is taken. This transcends any political or parochial interest.”

Financial Report Boasts Positive Info on City Economy

By Forum Staff New York City saw its eighth-consecutive year of job gains and the lowest unemployment rate on record in Fiscal Year 2018, according to an analysis recently released by City Comptroller Scott Stringer.

The City added 76,600 private-sector jobs in FY 2018, a gain of 2 percent, according to this year’s Popular Annual Financial Report. The unemployment rate fell to 4.3 percent in FY 2018, the lowest rate on record; the labor-force participation rate rose to a record high of 60.9 percent; and the employment-to-population ratio rose to 58.3 percent, the highest on record.

Additionally, unemployment rates improved in all five boroughs, falling to 3.5 percent in Queens; 5.4 percent in the Bronx; 4.1 percent in Brooklyn; 3.6 percent in Manhattan; and 4 percent in Staten Island. These are record lows for each of Gotham’s boroughs in more than a decade, Stringer noted.

The single greatest source for the increase was real estate taxes, which totaled over $26 billion, the comptroller reported. Program revenue accounted for nearly $29 billion, an increase of $108 million from the previous year, primarily from grants received for education programs in the form of state and federal aid.

“The budget impacts everyone in New York City, which is why we work to make these critical numbers as accessible as possible. We started this PAFR report just four years ago, and it’s become an indispensable part of our budget reporting,” the comptroller added. “With New Yorkers more engaged in local government than ever before, I encourage all New Yorkers to take a look—because our city is complex, large, and these numbers affect all of our day-to-day lives.”

LIRR gets Grant for Union Tpke. Bridge
