Mind Is Power
It is no secret that the mind is an especially important part of Chinese medicine. My teacher would say, “The mind is power.” Because Chinese was his native language, I found his way of speaking English to be very memorable; I feel in my heart things he said 20 years ago and recall his words every day. “Yi dao, qi dao,” is a Chinese saying that means, “where your mind goes, energy goes,” or, “where thinking goes, energy arrives.” This special, powerful, and sacred idea is often overlooked in our busy world. We may forget about mind power unless we are trained to engage it. Life challenges are many and varied, but if we approach them with full awareness, using our minds and thoughts constructively, we may be pleasantly surprised by the results. Once we get into the habit, it becomes automatic, and we notice less suffering and stress in our lives. Qigong is one way that Chinese medicine works with the power of the mind. Qi means “energy” and gong means “work” or “practice.” To the spiritual practitioner, qi is many things, including spirit. Qigong practice uses body posture, correction (relaxation) of mind, and breathing to regulate the body’s energy. 2 | EpicTricountyCT.com
Translating the language of spiritual practice and classical Chinese medicine into the language of science, qi, pronounced “chee,” is biophysical energy; it is life force and anything that is living, has qi. Abundant qi that flows freely throughout the body results in good health, balanced emotions, happiness, and a peacefulness. When the flow of qi is blocked or lessened it creates imbalance, which can result in pain or other health challenges. So, the goal is to keep our energy strong and circulating. My study of Chinese Medicine began with qigong. My teacher guided us through meditations and taught us self-healing and how to help others through medical qigong. He had us “put our minds” in an acupuncture point to learn the point experientially. I remember being in awe from what I was able to feel, and this is how I learned acupuncture points and meridians years before I went to acupuncture school. By the time I held an acupuncture needle in my hand, I had already experienced the points and channels open up and circulate qi in my body. This is not a common way to learn acupuncture anymore; I mention it to illuminate the importance of direct experience. Direct experience has great value, but what do modern science and medicine say about the power of the mind in healing work and everyday life? You may be surprised to know there is a lot of scientific evidence regarding the power of the mind. This type of research has been going on for decades all over the world. Dr. Masaru Emoto successfully demonstrated the powerful effects of the mind, through thoughts and words, on the formation of water crystals. His laboratory research showed that words such as “love” and “gratitude” created beautiful, symmetrical-looking frozen water crystals, while words that carried the vibration of hate or anger made misshapen and disordered crystals. Dr. Masaru Emoto passed away a few years ago, but his work lives on. Details of interesting, ongoing research projects can be found at Masaru-Emoto.net. One of the most important ways the mind comes into play in maintaining good health is the effect meditation has on regulating stress hormones. For at least a few decades, there has been scientific evidence showing that daily meditation, even for short periods of time, creates changes in the body’s hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, our body’s emergency and stress response system. The HPA axis is a communication system in our bodies, where the brain (hypothalamus and pituitary) communicates with the adrenals to help us survive when we are under threat. The adrenals respond to the message of a threat by secreting stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline increases our heart rate and circulation, helping us run away from a threat. Cortisol releases more glucose into the blood, giving us more energy in a moment of stress. This is a simplified explanation, but you get the idea. The problem is, in our world that stress is nearly constant; especially these days. We do not need a constant state of fight or flight in the body, nor do we need a constant increase in stress hormones, which push the body harder. While temporary increases in stress hormones help us in an emergency, too much of them, all the time, can weaken our immunity. For example, many peo-
ple notice when they are under stress, they catch a cold or break out with a cold sore. This is why it is a good idea to learn meditation of some sort. There are many styles. Working with the mind is portable, requires no special equipment or location, and can be easily integrated into one’s life. No matter which of life’s challenge you may be facing, meditation is going to have a positive effect in some way: the ability to relax, better sleep, controlling racing thoughts, reducing worry, and even relieving pain. It is wonderful that we can use our minds for better health and happier lives. We can also use our minds to help others, to build better communities and a better world. The Global Coherence Initiative (GCI) and the HeartMath Institute have been working on this for some time. Their work is centered around creating a better world through realizing the collective power of intention and increasing human collective consciousness. When people gather or unite with an intention, such as peace, love, or healing, it has a larger scale effect, changing the energy of the world we live in. It is interesting work, and certainly not limited to what I mention here. When he was alive, my teacher said, “See Far.” It is my favorite quote of his, and he said it a lot. Each day we are given the opportunity to see far in our own lives, in our own bodies, to create wonderful fields of qi around us, to share with others simply by being present; this is who we are. Every moment holds new possibilities, to dream of and create better health, happier lives, and to consciously choose where we put our attention and energy. Grandmaster used to say that qigong is more than a health practice for ourselves, it can also make the world a better, healthier place. How can we serve each other in this way? Yi Dao, Qi Dao. Healing for Grieving Youth
and
By Mairead
“Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.” ~ Vicki Harrison We have all been there. Each of us has, in our own way, experienced the trials and tribulations of grief. Death is an incredibly complex facet of life; it is a commonality we all share, yet often neglect to speak of. Adults may have a more thorough understanding of death and the process of grieving, but even so, we do not have all the answers. For children and teens, grief is an entirely different experience. They have had less time on Earth to acquire knowledge about the world around them. When someone close to them dies, it can be an incredibly difficult and confusing time. As children and teens are already grappling with their own development, an event as debilitating as facing death only exacerbates the challenges they endure. In the United States it is estimated that two million children, ages twenty-five and younger, have had a parent die. And an additional eight million have endured the death of a sibling.1 In the state of Connecticut, one in fifteen children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age of eighteen2. As we are living through a global pandemic, mortality is increasing.3 With death playing such a prominent role in our lives, we are forced to examine how it affects 4 | EpicTricountyCT.com
us, especially our youth, and explore how we can support them amid their grief. Anyone who has experienced the death of someone significant knows that it triggers a range of emotions and can gravely impact life as we once knew it. The hardship of death for teens can be even more profound. It is important to recognize that the developmental stages of children and teens significantly influences the way they understand and cope with death. However, even in infancy, children can recognize and react to death. Infants often can identify a sense of “gone-ness” based on the behavior of those around them.4 As literal thinkers, children between ages two and six struggle to comprehend three main components of death: they have trouble understanding that death translates to the loss of physical function, that death is final, and that it is universal.5 From ages six to nine, children typically can recognize that death is irreversible, but usually attribute death to an event that occurs in old age. When children in this age range experience the death of someone, they may be especially inquisitive about the implications of death. With such curious minds, they constantly seek conclusive answers to the many questions they have about the world around them. It is important to acknowledge their desire for detail and be as honest as possible.
Adolescents, ages ten to thirteen, possess abstract thinking capabilities and will likely understand the concept of death, so they will begin to ponder some of life’s more difficult questions, such as why death occurs. They also will contemplate how it affects relationships and may impact their lives. At this age, children begin adhering to cultural norms and identifying with adults of the same gender. In other words, they may assume a certain reaction is expected of them: i.e., boys don’t cry, or girls should comfort one another. At this stage it is crucial to pay attention to the behaviors exhibited by children, as their actions usually convey the underlying emotions they are dealing with. As for teens, grief can be especially challenging. Youth at this age are beginning to construct an identity for themselves and are preparing for the transition to adulthood. Many teens speak and act in ways that demonstrate maturity and convince others of their status as an “adult.” Despite their eagerness to assume their role as a contributing member of society, having to grapple with the death of someone can complicate this transition. With so many other changes occurring in the life of a teen, the death of someone significant creates yet another adversity to overcome at this stage of life.6 Depending on the age of the child and their developmental stage, the approach to helping them grieve will differ. Many of us are familiar with the Kübler-Ross model of grief, which consists of five stages: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance.7 But grief is not linear. I noticed the presence of all these stages in my own grief journey, yet they did not occur in the presented order and often repeated, i.e., anger followed by denial, followed by depression, and back to anger. If you immediately experience depression and sadness after the loss of someone, I would not conclude that you are grieving “improperly;” I do not think there is a proper way to grieve. Grief is a puzzling experience and shouldn’t be constricted to rigid guidelines, especially for children and teens whose emotional responses are still developing. One of the most crucial yet challenging aspects of helping a child through grief is understanding how you can help. Everyone grieves differently and, as previously described, depending on the age of the child, your role as a parent will vary. While children will endure their own journey through the grieving process, parents must provide them with a safe space to do so while guiding them through their understanding of the death. There are a few key ideas to keep in mind as you navigate your own grief, and your role in your child’s grief. First, you must allow yourself to grieve. By demonstrating a willingness to express your own feelings and emotions, your child will likely follow suit. Allowing yourself the space to grieve provides your child with a sense of safety in sharing his or her own experience with you.8 This leads to another critical component of helping your child grieve— communication. Being honest with your child and encouraging communication will allow him or her permission to openly speak about what transpired. As a parent, it is important to know what your child is feeling so that you can better support him or her and seek external help should s/he need it. Communicating with other adults who are around your child, such as teachers or coaches, is also essential so that you can further identify your child’s behaviors and adjust your approach to supporting him or her as needed. While grappling individually with the death of a loved one can feel isolating, death is an experience we can collectively confront. The
more we open ourselves to one another and share our experiences, the more equipped we are to cope with death. There are countless resources available to help us understand grief and navigate life after the death of someone close to us. The best way to help yourself and your children is to utilize these resources and take advantage of the support around you. Finally, don’t forget to support grieving children by wearing blue on November 19th for Children’s Grief Awareness Day.9 Weaver, David, Parental Mortality and Outcomes among Minor and Adult Children (September 5, 2019). Do You Want to Live to
100? By Dr. Kevin Reese
Longevity has always been a fascinating subject to me. How can one person, who eats poorly and doesn’t exercise, live to be 100 years old, while another person, who eats clean and exercises, dies at 50? It does go both ways: sometimes it is the people who do everything seemingly correct that live a long time and the unhealthy people that die way before their time. What gives? Let’s explore some examples using celebrities. Clint Eastwood is still making movies at a high level (as a director) and he is nearly 90 years old. He follows a somewhat vegan diet and has been exercising his whole adult life. Warren Buffet is also nearly 90 years old and runs his company at a high level. He eats McDonalds almost every day with no workout routine. The great vegan doctor, Dr. Ellsworth Wareham just recently died at 104 years old. He was vegan for 50 years and was so vital that he didn’t stop performing surgery until his 90s! The great Jack Lalanne died at 96 and was hitting the gym until the week before he died. Perhaps the greatest example of vitality in the modern era, Jack ate eggs and oatmeal daily while incorporating lots of fruits and veggies. There’s more here than meets the eye. No matter how much we scour the earth for centenarians, we will find some following a vegan diet and some smoking cigars and eating ice cream! So, is there a secret recipe to living to 100? Well, I can’t speak from personal experience because I’m only 41 years old. But as far as my research goes, here are three observations: 6 | EpicTricountyCT.com
1. Cultivate Mental Poise: People that are stressed and worried create enervation, or fatigue, in their bodies. That loss of vitality leads to toxemia, or toxins in the blood, which is the root cause of almost all physical illness. For those that don’t know, toxemia is when the circulation of the lymphatic fluid slows down in the body. Your lymphatic system is the sanitation department that transports waste outside your body through urine and sweat. When the circulation slows down and becomes more like a pond instead of a river, the accumulation of waste (toxins) makes your tissues more susceptible to damage. Of course, some of those tissues are glands and organs that have important jobs to do. When glands and organs can’t do their jobs well, a slew of symptoms occur, which eventually get diagnosed as conditions that have long fancy names. When one masters the art of inner peace, something amazing happens. Dare I say, a miracle happens: you start to live with awareness, compassion and gratitude. Feelings of unshakable peace and joy emanate from your spirit; this is underscored in many eastern traditions such as Buddhism and Hinduism. In the field of Natural Hygiene, this inner peace is referred to as Mental Poise. Many natural hygienic teachers have stressed the importance of it throughout the last 200 years, and I shined light on it in my book, Diet, De-Stress, Detox. The general principle is that one “D” doesn’t work well without the others. Hence, the greatest diet in the world doesn’t work if you're stressed and relaxation doesn’t work if you eat garbage. This inner peace keeps your lymph circulating, which means the body is eliminating toxins (waste) properly.
It may interest you to find out that historically, some war veterans lived a very long time. Why is this, when they saw things that you and I can’t even imagine? Their longevity has been linked to a strong belief in God and thankfulness for being alive. It seems the suffering, fear and drama that they went through in wartime, resolved into a peace in them, a sense of gratitude.
When one masters the art of inner peace … Feelings of unshakable peace and joy emanate from your spirit
2. Eating Less is Key: One of my favorite examples of the incredible benefits of intermittent fasting is Dr. Amen Rah, who has set powerlifting records by eating only one nutrientdense vegan meal per day! How does one maintain a physique like his by consuming one meal a day? That’s a topic for another day, but the point here is how the body regenerates and cleans itself when you don’t eat. Richard Overton, a veteran who died at 112, ate ice cream daily; but he may have been only taking in around 1000-1300 calories per day. So, even though ice cream is a “junk food,” he would have stayed trim and his body would have detoxified during the fasting periods. In my longevity studies, I have noticed that most older adults not only don’t eat a lot, but they never did – their entire lives. Not eating a lot keeps that lymphatic system working well so you can eliminate waste properly. 3. Stay Active and Do Things You're Passionate About: Watching tons of television or reading the newspaper is not the way to thrive. I see too many older adults whose lives revolve around a remote control. Being a couch potato in your 70s is not a good idea; it is better to get out and do
things that create joy! Also, expand your mind: you can benefit from learning a new language, learning a new skill or learning to play a new game. Do whatever you can do to keep that brain electricity flowing. So, do you want to live to be 100? Well, if you do, find inner peace, eat less and do things that you’re passionate about: Three things that ultimately add up to an attitude of gratitude! Depolarizing
Difficult Conversations By Vanessa S. Lewis
What defines a difficult conversation? A difficult conversation is anything that delivers unpleasant news, discusses a sensitive subject, or talks about a change or correction.
neighbor, but staying silent might cause our physical, mental and or emotional health to suffer.
When Bill Correll, facilitator of Light the Candle podcast asked, “What is the single most difficult conversation you’ve ever had with someone?” the conversation topics included conspiracy theories, forgiveness, and politics, among others. It’s not hard to find a “difficult” conversation: all we have to do is turn on the news, log in to social media, or wait in the grocery store line, and chances are that one will come up.
One suggestion is to depolarize. To depolarize is to “reduce or remove the polarization of.” In modern parlance polarization and depolarization are used to describe the relationship between two sharply contrasting groups or sets of opinions, as in conservatives and liberals, rich and poor, Republicans and Democrats.
Politics, religion, and sex are three topics that society defines as taboo and warns us to stay away from whenever we talk to another human being. We seemingly have more division and more people taking offense, while others resolve to “bite their tongues,” lest they offend another and cause hard feelings. With the advent of the “fake news” meme, controversy gets tossed around like confetti. Yet, does that mean that are we supposed to suppress what we profess as the truth? Doing this may placate our 8 | EpicTricountyCT.com
So, how can we handle difficult conversations?
The national organization Braver Angels exists to “bring reds and blues together to talk, listen, and understand,” in an attempt to depolarize America. Through ongoing workshops, they help participants try to understand others’ points of view, even if they don’t agree with them. They make people aware of stereotypes and point out the dangers of remaining within our own “echo chambers,” where limited exposure to differing beliefs only enforces our own opinions and contributes to further polarization. Braver
Angels’ programs teach participants how to engage those they disagree with, look for common ground, and support principles that bring people together. Similarly, in the weekly podcast Lighting the Candle: A World that Works, a small group of men and women with varied faiths and backgrounds gathers around a “virtual roundtable” to discuss difficult topics. One question is posed to the group each session; the topic is discussed without anyone interrupting, and each person listens with the intent to understand. With every subject, we “enter the ring” not to fight but to hear, listen, and learn. Lighting the Candle share one motive: to talk about a world that works.
When we listen with the intent to understand, rather than to be understood, we are more easily able to see the other person’s point of view.
So often we listen just enough to what the other person is saying in order to formulate a response in our head. What if we took the time to actively listen (nod our heads, raise our eyebrows, smile, or laugh to show attention), and then ask questions to make sure we are clear on what we’ve just heard? In order to turn potentially divisive conversations into productive ones, below are a few strategies: • In order to understand, listen before you respond. • Be willing to back up, ask questions to show you understand and acknowledge that you do. • Be willing and open to shift your own perspective, or at least understand others’ views and where they are coming from. Understand how their perspective shapes their view. • Establish next steps and accountability. It’s not enough to be clear; for a truly productive conversation, you also need to be humble. C.S. Lewis once said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.” Ever notice how the more right you think you are, the more wrong the other person seems to you? We don’t always realize it, but we get so invested in our opinions that we unconsciously tune out the other person. Sometimes all we need is to feel heard. Recognizing that the other person also just needs to feel heard, whether or not we agree with what s/he is saying, takes humility. No one has all the right answers. No one is perfect. Sometimes we need to remember the reason why we are having these difficult conversations in the first place: to solve complex problems. And that may mean surrendering to the fact that a complex conversation may not come to a resolution: an answer may not be found. In fact, if you authentically engage in the strategies above, you may just end up with more questions than before began the conversation! When we listen with the intent to understand, rather than to be understood, we are more easily able to see the other person’s point of view. Still, it is always good to know when to end the conversation. When you engage in a difficult conversation, understand that you may not reach a consensus or find an agreeable answer to a problem; in that case, keeping it short might be a better option. Try to end on a positive note, so that the person looks forward to having the conversation next time around, or at least s/he doesn’t feel threatened. Here are a few ways that you can respectfully end a conversation: “For personal reasons, I’d rather not discuss this. Do you mind if we ditch it?”
“This conversation is making me uncomfortable right now. Can we move on?” “Can I interrupt? We need to talk about ____.” “I have a different opinion, but that is an interesting point you make.” If the conversation starts to get tense or heated, you can physically remove yourself. You can excuse yourself and take a walk, get coffee, head to the water cooler, or go to bathroom and take a few moments to decompress. Remember, one person’s “passionate conversation” may be someone else’s quarrel. Always show respect; honor your and others’ boundaries. This includes the amount of time you choose to talk. It is best to avoid difficult conversations altogether first thing in the morning and before stressful events. Another strategy is simply to agree to disagree. When you don’t see eye-to-eye and the conversation can only go so far, sometimes it is best to respectfully “agree to disagree.” But don’t fall back on this as an excuse not to engage. Political conversations often stem from concerns for our safety, our livelihoods, our family’s wellbeing the health and the overall wellbeing of our communities. It helps to remember that deep down we all want similar things; and that is where we find our common ground. Once you’ve stated your opinion, and taken time to listen to another’s opinion, you can trust that a “little bridge” was built to continue the conversation another time. When it doubt in any conversation, fall back on the acronym “T.H.I.N.K.” Before speaking or posting anything, ask yourself: is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind? Relax” Everyone
“
(Magnetic Resonance Therapy) We often hear about the importance of relaxation and bombarded just as often with information about techniques to experience it. Achieving relaxation should not cause more stress and should be done easily. Maybe you have considered yoga, reiki, walking or meditation. These tend to be a few of the more common recommendations. But have you ever heard of or experienced the Magnesphere? Doesn’t it sound like something out of this world? The Magnesphere is a state-of-the-art piece of equipment designed to help restore balance to your body. The Magnesphere delivers Whole-body Magnetic Resonance Therapy through two rings made of 1 1/4lb. copper coiling which when electrified produce the effects of a magnet and allows the entire body to be immersed in a uniformed, natural magnetic field. This device dials into specific frequencies on the molecular level and gently “nudges” any disorder or imbalance back to the proper position or vibration. This then balances the Autonomic Nervous System in the body hence reducing symptoms associated with chronic stress. With the recent turn of events throughout our world, the Vagus nerve which governs the “flight or fight” response has been in overdrive. In times of high stress our bodies activate the Sympathetic response. This alert state is necessary at times. However, for the body to stay in this heightened state is detrimental to our overall well-being and can lead to a host of negative physical effects on our body. Fibromyalgia, depression, headaches and musculoskeletal pain are a few effects that can be directly linked to to high levels of stress stress on the systems in the body. Through MRT (Magnetic Resonance Therapy) the symptoms of these conditions can be greatly reduced. There is no learning curve with the Magnesphere as there may be with other relaxation techniques. This makes MRT (Magnetic 12 | EpicTricountyCT.com
Resonance Therapy) available to everyone regardless of their physical abilities. The body has powerful healing traits and when the effects of stress can be eliminated, the body tends to recover more quickly. It is well documented in medical literature that chronic stress plays a key role in 75-80% of the diseases and chronic conditions from which people suffer today. One user has said “an hour with the Magnesphere is like three hours of sleeping.” In addition to incorporating the Magnesphere into your wellness routine, there are other natural methods that are recommended to enhance the MRT’s affect. Methods such as deep breathing exercises, physical movement, meditation, Yoga and massage are some activities that reduce stress therefore lessening the “flight or fight” response, strengthening the Vagus nerve. A session in the Magnesphere has many benefits and these benefits have been shown not to stop working immediately. The magnetic field continues to work on your inner structures for the next several hours and possibly into the next day. During the session you may feel tingles, tickling or warm sensations. Either way, the body is bathed in a wholebody magnetic field for up to 60 minutes without the use of sedatives and is completely non-evasive. Contact a practitioner, healing center or physician who has a Magnesphere and talk with them about incorporating sessions into your self-care program. Elizabeth Kaflik and her family own the Optimal Living Center, 50 Old Farms Rd., Somers CT. Currently they are offering services such as Reiki, Body Detox using two different kind of Foot Baths, Quantum Resonance Magnetic Analyzer as well as Magnesphere therapy sessions. RECIPES ROSEMARY-ALLSPICE SHORTBREAD From the Kitchen of April Guilbault Rosemary for remembrance, as the holidays are amongst the best times to recall memories of loved ones and happy times shared together. These shortbreads are not only vegan but are free from refined sugar! Perfect as a savory treat to enjoy with cheese or cocktails or to give as a special gift.
INGREDIENTS: 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour 1 cup unbleached white flour ½ teaspoon kosher salt ½ teaspoon ground allspice 1 ½ tablespoons fresh finely chopped rosemary 1 cup refined coconut oil 4 tablespoons non-hydrogenated all-vegetable organic shortening (such as Spectrum brand) 1⁄4 cup honey
DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Create a “sling” for an 8x8 glass baking pan (position a piece of parchment paper running one direction in the pan, coming up the sides, then do the same other direction. This allows the batter to sit within the parchment and then easily be lifted out for easy cutting). Bring coconut oil and non-hydrogenated shortening to room temperature. In a medium bowl, mix the flours, salt, allspice and rosemary. In standup mixer (or using hand mixer), whip coconut oil and non-hydrogenated shortening together until smooth and no lumps remain. Slowly add flour mixture and mix until dough comes together to form a cohesive ball. You don’t want to over mix (resulting in tough cookie) but you don’t want to under mix (and have dough be crumbly). Press dough by hand into baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes or until shortbread is evenly golden. Cool for approximately 10 minutes and then gently lift the entire “sling” from the baking dish. Continue to cool on a cutting board or cookie rack. Remove parchment. Serve when completely cool or the following day to let flavors fully mingle. Bon appetit and happy remembrances! Makes 18 pieces April Guilbault is a food and wellness writer/editor, and a certified health coach in Norwalk, CT. A graduate of Syracuse University and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, she has served on various wellness committees at the state and local level. April finds deep satisfaction working with private clients to help them achieve their wellness goals. SAGE WISDOM
Many have sensed a rising of awareness within themselves as we navigate this new level of consciousness. How can we best use that energy? Archangel Michael Of particular importance is maintaining yourself as a clear channel for your divine essence. When you become inflamed by what is happening around you, you must rebalance before you can be of help to others. Rebalancing requires letting go of expectations of what should and should not be. Instead, focus on the eternal essence within. This exercise will help you experience the profound inner peace that resides there. As you become steeped in this powerful presence, allow it to clear and heal your energy field. Then place within your aura an ‘intelligent field’ that filters out disruptive emotions while still allowing needed information to enter your awareness. Part of your work as a spiritual being in physical form is to learn to transform and elevate the emotions that arise within you into unconditional love and the inherent joyfulness of inner peace. What you suggest seems very difficult to do when there is such disruption in the world. How can we maintain this peace when challenged? Once you are fully immersed within your own Spiritual identity, your perception of events will change. When you recognize the truth beyond appearances, you cannot but radiate and ignite that awareness in others. Do not misunderstand. You do not control another’s perceptions or actions, but as you reflect their own divine nature back to them, you may perhaps stir the embers of their own awakening.
Each of you is an eternal, divine being. Even when the expression of Spirit in some seems to defy this logic, at the heart of the matter, they are still Spirit. So, what distorts true expression? Simply put, fear and pain. Those who suffer often make choices that do not serve themselves or others well. Their actions are often misguided attempts to find relief from the anguish that arises from what needs to be healed within. If you understand this, you will be better able to tap into the compassion that is central to living a spiritually guided life. How can we use the awareness of which you speak to help create positive outcomes for the world? Again, know that even seemingly negative actions have, at their core, a positive intention. That positive intention may not be towards others, but instead an effort to replace what is missing in their own psyche. Then release judgment so that your own intentions remain pure and the energy that emanates from you serves the highest good. Any action you do for the good of the world must go through this rigorous test. Do not judge even yourself. Center yourself in the awareness of your divine essence. Heal your own fears and judgments. Experience the profound inner peace of the eternal present. Do this frequently and it will increase your capacity to love all. And love is a powerful force for healing a troubled world. Patrice motivates people to discover how amazing they are. Inspiring empowerment through spiritual mindfulness, she has channeled Ascended Masters and Archangels for over 30 years. She is a frequent guest speaker at events, offers private sessions, and conducts channeled spiritual realization classes. Learn more about Patrice at www.readingsbypatrice.com E.P.I.C. | 19
