Waved on by mascot Luke the Lion, 973 grab-andgo breakfasts and 973 lunches, which included three days’ worth of food, were given out on Tuesday morning in the parking lot at Everett High School.

“As part of the Everett Public Schools Community Eligibility Provision, which is paid for through state and federal money, every child gets free lunch,” Whitsons Culinary Group General Manager Alyssa Charles said on-site. “Lunch today included chicken, pasta and added vegetables while breakfast was cereal, graham crackers and raisins – modifiable to special diets.”

For the roughly 7,000 students in the district, distribution days are Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which is normally when school lunch is served. As part of the Seamless Summer Option, it is slated to cease in late June when the academic year ends. Whitsons also serves Saugus and Malden, according to Charles.
