He also called attention to how the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School reacted after gunďŹ re erupted in the halls of their Florida school nearly two years ago. In the days that followed, they held several protests against gun violence and formed Never Again MSD. “The whole nation heard from those young people,â€? said Watson. He said that movement was similar to the crusade that King launched during the 1960s. “He wasn’t looking for the spotlight,â€? said Watson. “Dr. King was very much a latter day visionary; he was heeding a call that was beyond him.â€? Therefore, Watson encouraged those in attendance to be optimistic about the future. “We are constantly peering into the edge of tomorrow,â€? he said. Despite growing up in Cambridge, State Senator Sal DiDomenico said he chose to raise his family in Everett as it is a community that values inclusion and diversity. “We have risen to new heights; our diversity makes us stronger,â€? he said. DiDomenico also spoke about how King convinced then-President Lyndon Johnson to sign the Voting Rights Act of 1965. “One man did this; Dr. King was an American hero,â€? he said. “He was a powerful man because he
