he first time they played this game, way back in 1889, if a high school football fan did not walk to the Mal-

den-Medford game, they took a horse and buggy. Automobiles were not invented yet. Neither was the forward pass! Nearly 130 years later, Mal-

den High School and Medford High School are still battling it out on Thanksgiving morning and this year is no different.

he holidays always unleash a wave of celebrations with family, friends and coworkers, but this Saturday is a day for Malden to celebrate the season as a community. The city has planned a major party with a parade, celebrity guests from the North Pole and not one but two Christmas tree lightings. Early weather forecasts are predicting a brisk but dry day for all the events. The 15th annual Parade of Holiday Traditions steps off from the Salemwood School on the Waite Street extension at 2 p.m. The parade will head

onto Maplewood Street, then travel west on Salem Street and then end at the reviewing stand on the corner of Ferry, Salem and Main Streets. Children can bring their letters and wish lists for Santa to hand off to helpers from the Post Office, who will be sure they arrive at the North Pole. Each of the city’s schools will have a float or demonstration in the parade featuring the theme “Thank you Veterans – we are grateful for your service.” A cash prize of $350 will go to the art department of the school that is awarded
