REVERE ELKS LODGE REMEMBERS THOSE IN NEED OVER THE HOLIDAY SEASON
The Revere Elks have been delivering holiday baskets of food for those in need for close to 40 years, according to Past Exalted Ruler Bernie Evans. This is a time-honored act of love to those in need of a little extra help over the holiday season, and a Revere family only has to contact the Lodge and ask for help. This past Sunday morning, 25 local families got a visit from a member of the Revere Lodge of Elks #1171 on Shirley Avenue. The Lodge purchased turkeys for the baskets, but the produce was donated thanks to the dealers of the Chelsea Produce Center. Evans stated this is a huge help in making the event a success every year. By Sara Brown or the second year in a row, the Revere Public School system’s request to build a new high school was rejected by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). Supt. of Revere Public Schools Dr. Dianne Kelly revealed the disappointing news at the School Committee meeting on Dec. 19. She said they first decided they needed a new high school after the MSBA rejected Revere’s request to build new science labs in the high school. “Never mind the science labs, the whole building needs to be done, they told us, Kelly said. Revere waited until the Hill School project was completed before applying for a new high school for the first time last year. Last year, they found

out the result a few days before Christmas. Kelly said the MSBA was impressed by their application again this year. “Our application was excellent and demonstrates the need for a new high school, they said, she said. Revere High School currently is dealing with an overcrowded student population problem. This year they were just a few students shy of a 2,000 enrollment. Kelly said MSBA funding is limited and they received over 85 applications from communities around the Commonwealth seeking to build schools or major building improvements. She said Revere made it to the last cut before being eliminated. Fifteen communities were
