More than 800 ardent supporters of Israel gathered Sunday night for the Zionist Organization of America›s 114th Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award Dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan. The star-studded, gala event paid special tributes to TV talk show host Glenn Beck, Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann and U.S. Congresswoman Ileana RosLehtinen (R) of Florida. In an evening replete with all the flair and sophistication of most luxurious Hollywood soirée, Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl Organization (CCOC) commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and celebrated the great achievements of the CCOC on Monday evening, November 21. del Schneerson, ZT”L, Rabbi Yossie, known By Tzvi Allen Fishman he star-studded gala event, dubbed “Children of the World,” included a large celebrity fantasy auction and cocktail reception followed by dinner. The event, which took place at Pier 60 in Manhattan’s Chelsea Pier Complex, was punctuated by a red carpeted entrance for the numerous Hollywood personalities who attended and supported the event. Dozens of photographers and journalists crowded the red carpet, trying to get a snapshot or a sound bite from the many celebrities. The CCOC was founded in 1990 by a Rabbi Yossie Raichik, ZT”L. for his loving and giving nature, was determined to rescue the thousands of children who suffered from the terrible nuclear tragedy in Chernobyl in 1986. The “Children of Chernobyl” were exposed to the lethal radiation and the aftereffects of this radiation upon the environment near Chernobyl. Many of the children were Jewish, as the area was an historic center for Jewish living and culture. Yossie, who was Director of CCOC for 18 years and tragically passed away three years ago, was responsible for saving 2,547 children in 81 rescue flights to Israel from Chernobyl. Today, CCOC is the only organization that permanently evacuates and treats
