Photo by HowardFritzPhotography.com By Fern Sidman Over 500 people gathered on Sunday evening at the West Side Institutional Synagogue in Manhattan for a lively panel discussion addressing the core beliefs of both American and Jewish values. Entitled "Are American Values in Decline and How Can They Be Fixed?”, the forum was moderated by renowned author and media commentator Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, and sponsored by "This World: The Values Network." The panel consisted of two stellar personalities in the Jewish world, each distinguished in his field of expertise.

ichael Steinhardt, former hedge fund manager turned major Jewish philanthropist, is best known as the chairman of the TaglitBirthright organization that is responsible for bringing over 300,000 American Jewish youngsters to Israel for a free 10day trip. He is also the founding chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council that was instrumental in the elevation of Bill Clinton to national prominence. Rep. Eric Cantor (R) of Virginia is currently the House Majority leader and highest ranking Jewish elected official in American history. Considered a rising star in the Republican Party, Cantor is a tireless and unyielding advocate for the State

With the Occupy Wall St. Protests entering their fifth straight week and spawning a plethora of other “occupy” movements across the country, there is one question on the minds of our community that most media outlets will not address. Namely: Is it good for the Jews? hat makes the Occupied Wall Street movement so difficult for reporters to assess is what seems to be a lack of organization, leadership, specific objectives, or even a coherent message. Some demonstrators claim to draw their inspiration from the Arab Spring, a series of rebellions that has led to the overthrow of several Arab governments. Yet, to many onlookers, the Wall St. protest and its imitators seem little more than mobs of teen and collegeaged malcontents protesting for protest’s sake, seeking activist “street cred” by picking fights with local police. The aforementioned lack of organization among the demonstrators led Ginia Bellafante to write in The New York
