Attorney Messer following arrest.
BY YAAKOV LAPPIN The Israel Police arrested five people this week - including attorney Uri Messer, former associate of ex-prime minister Ehud Olmert, as part of an investigation into what law enforcement sources have described as an unprecedented real estate bribery scam, in which land developers allegedly paid large bribes to public officials in order to gain approval for housing developments built by the Holyland real estate company in Jerusalem and associated development projects in the North of Israel. ccording to police suspicions, between 1999 and 2008, the Holyland Company and associated land development projects, then owned by businessman Hillel Charni, paid tens of millions of shekels in bribes to senior public decision makers. In one major alleged bribery scam, key members of the Jerusalem municipality, including members of its planning and construction committee, received large sums in exchange for their approval for the Holyland housing project in the capital, situated in the city's Malha neighborhood. Bribes allegedly bought approval for additional housing units to be constructed on the site, and eliminated bureaucratic obstacles which stood in the way of an enlarged Holyland development, which received final approval in 1999.

Mubarak, will give speeches during the summit condemning Israel's nuclear arsenal and urging Israel to open its facilities to nuclear inspectors and join the Nuclear NonProliferation Treaty. Obama is expected to meet several elders during the summit, including Mubarak, and Chinese president Hu Jintao. Sources at the Prime Minister's Bureau said that the White House notified leaders who have met with Obama recently that due to time constraints the U.S. leader won't be able to meet with all attendees. Netanyahu is also not currently scheduled to meet other senior officials, including U.S. special envoy to the Mideast George Mitchell, who is still expecting a response from Netanyahu regarding the renewal of peace talks with the Palestinians and the fourmonth moratorium on construction in East Jerusalem. Mitchell, who was scheduled to return to the region this week, has postponed his trip to Israel. The Prime Minister's Bureau said Israel will issue its reply to Washington in the near
he young boy, Raymond Levy, went missing from his home in the area of Ave P and east 12th at around 5 pm. He had been playing with the other children when he wandered off on his scooter. Within minutes, family members went out to search for him, but to no avail. At that point Valerie Levy, the mother of the boy, quickly contacted the Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol, a local civilian crime-fighting group. Upon arrival the Shomrim contacted the police and set up camp, sending out over a hundred vehicles of their own throughout Flatbush, Bensonhurst, Kensington, Borough Park and elsewhere.
