Israel is planning to build nearly 700 new apartments in eastern Jerusalem, government spokesman Mark Regev announced . e make a distinction between the West Bank and Jerusalem. Jerusalem is our capital and remains such," said government spokesman Mark Regev. The Housing Ministry said it had approved a total of 692 new apartments in three existing Jewish neighborhoods Har Homa, Pisgat Zeev and Neve Yaakov, already inhabited by tens of thousands of Israelis. Eastern Jerusalem was not included in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's commitment to a 10-month construction freeze that is being enforced throughout Judea and Samaria. Abdulmutallab had been able to get explosive materials onto the plane despite higher security worldwide since the devestation of Sept. 11, 2001. Abdulmutallab is said to have been trained by Al-Qaeda in Yemen and was on the US International Terror Watch List. British newspapers reported that there are about two dozen British Muslims training at terrorist camps in Yemen and hope to carry out terrorist attacks. The report claimed that Umar Abdulmutallab,23, trained at one such camp. "The great fear is Abdulmutallab is only one of many western radical Muslims ready to attack planes and kill tens of thousands," one Scotland Yard source said. The source promised constant surveillance over the suspects training in Yemen if they should return to the UK. Those familiar with airport security procedures questioned how Abdulmutallab was able to get a visa and board an airplane destined for a US city.
