unding will help Revere improve safety, infrastructure and renovation of Gibson Park. This week, Mayor Brian M. Arrigo was informed that the City of Revere will receive $225,556 in grant money focusing on improvements to Gibson Park. The grant, which is administered through the state’s Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA), will facilitate the installation of an accessible play structure with safety surfacing, the addition of adult exercise equipment, the replacement of damaged and rusted fencing, seating and walkways, and the addition of irrigation to the baseball field. “I am proud to announce our partnership with the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communi-
for a Contact usation No Oblig
ties program,” said Mayor Arrigo. “We are committed to the continuous improvement of our community to ensure residents can enjoy the outdoors close to home.” With the Lincoln School and Oak Island parks recently renovated and upcoming plans of North Revere improvements, Gibson Park marks the fourth improvement of local parks in the past two years. “The updates to Gibson Park will help make Revere a healthier, more vibrant and more inclusive community. I am particularly enthused that the park will now have a playground that’s accessible to those with disabilities,” said House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo. State Representative RoseLee Vincent said, “With this
funding, planned improvements to the park will become a reality, and the newly rejuvenated park in the Point of Pines neighborhood will provide a vibrant space to foster an active lifestyle for the families in the area.” “This is great news for the community ; recreational space is vital to community spirit and we are proud to be a part of this,” said State Senator Joseph Boncore. Mayor Arrigo and Revere’s Legislative Delegation all expressed their gratitude to the Baker Administration. The grant is funded through the Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities (PARC) program, which was established in the 2014 environmental bond bill.

he Revere City Council voted in favor of keeping City Clerk Ashley Melnik for five more years and is interested in keeping her on for more. The council unanimously voted to extend Melnik’s contract as city clerk for five years. “I am proud to say I was one of the biggest advocates of Ashley’s to become our city clerk,” said Councillor-at-Large Anthony Zambuto. “She was one of my best picks.” Melnik was named city clerk in 2010 after longtime City Clerk John Henry retired. Before that she worked as the assistant city clerk. O ther councillors commended Melnik’s work ethic. “She has made everyone’s job here a lot of easier,” said Ward 4 Councillor Patrick Keefe, adding, “She’s a diamond in the rough, we being the rough.” Powers said her job is not an easy one, especially since she has to deal with the public. He sometimes worries about her safety in dealing with people and wants a protective glass to be put in the City Clerk’s kiosk. Ward 1 Councillor Joanne McKenna was Melnik’s teacher in high school and recalled what a great student she was. “Now she’s teaching me,” she said. “I cherish her as a colleague and [her] friendship.” Ward 2 Councillor Ira Novoselsky agreed. “One of the proudest moments I’ve had is when I voted for her as city clerk,” he said. “She’s a great source for everyone to go to.” Councillor-at-Large George Rotondo wondered if they

could lock in Melnik for another 10 years. According to Melnik, the council would have to file special legislation to have a contract of more than five years, and the council seemed interested in it. “Let’s look into it,” Rotondo said. Melnik got emotional during all the high praise and thanked the council for their kind words.
