he City of Everett’s Village Fest, the ultimate street fair, featuring music, food, craft beer and spirits will take place in the Village Business District this Saturday, September 15 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. This year’s festival will feature the legendary rock band Sugar Ray as well some of the area’s top food trucks, beer from Craft Brewers Guild, Village Bar & Grill, Bone Up Brewing Company, Down the Road, and Night Shift Brewing, spirits from Short Path Distillery and kids activities for the afternoon. Entry to the festival is free, and it will go on

In addition to the music, food, beer and spirits, there will be lawn games dispersed throughout the festival, as well as vendor booths showcasing local businesses and organizations. It is a true citywide celebration and not to be missed!

OSTON – In July, Senator Sal DiDomenico and his colleagues in the Massachusetts Legislature passed bipartisan legislation providing an additional set of tools to address the opioid crisis and establishing the Commonwealth as a national leader in the fight against this epidemic. Among the provisions included in the bill are increasing access to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), exploring tools to reduce harm and save lives, expanding prevention efforts and addressing the high rates of co-occurring conditions of substance use disorder (SUD) and mental illness.

The bill was signed by the Governor on August 9.

The bill, An Act for prevention and access to appropriate care and treatment of addiction, is the result of extensive work researching evidence-based best

practices and collaborating with healthcare researchers and clinicians, hospitals, behavioral health providers, law enforcement officials, patient advocates and individuals with lived experience, to develop policies to address the opioid epidemic. “This comprehensive bill is a critical next step in our Commonwealth’s commitment to fighting the opioid epidemic,� said Senator DiDomenico. “By focusing on prevention and ensuring that people have greater access to the medicine and treatment they need, we can continue to be a leader in this growing national crisis and help people get the support they need.�

ment for SUD before they leave the ED. The bill requires that all EDs and all satellite emergency facilities have the capacity to initiate voluntary SUD treatment, including opioid agonist treatment, after treatment for overdose.

Under the legislation, the Department of Public Health (DPH) is directed to issue a statewide standing order authorizing every pharmacy in the state to dispense naloxone, eliminating the current requirement that each pharmacy obtain an individual authorization. The bill also brings Massachusetts in line with other states by providing liability protections, including protection from criminal or civil liability, for practitioners who prescribe and pharmacists who dispense naloxone in good faith.

In Massachusetts, nearly one out of every 11 individuals dying from opioid-related overdoses has a history of incarceration in state jails and prisons, and in 2015 alone, nearly 50% of all deaths among those released from incarceration were opioid-related. In response, this bill makes significant strides toward extending access to medication-assisted treatment in correctional facilities, making medication-assisted treatment available in the state correctional system and establishing a medication-assisted treatment pilot program at five county correctional facilities.

The bill also includes several provisions to address dual diagnosis and the high rates of co-occurring SUD and mental illness in the Commonwealth.

According to the National Association on Mental Illness-Massachusetts, over 50% of individuals seeking treatment for SUD also suffer from a mental health condition. To ensure that the right kind of treatment facilities

DeMaria asks Congress for additional resources to combat opioid epidemic M ayor Carlo DeMaria joined The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) and a bipartisan group of mayors from across America to ask that Congress provide additional resources directly to their communities to combat the opioid epidemic. During USCM’s 86th Annual Meeting held in June, the nation’s mayors adopted a resolution – “Support Direct Federal Funding to Cities to Provide Substance Use Disorder Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Services” – calling on Congress to work with local governments to create new direct funding opportunities through existing or new programs that will allow the nation as a whole to more effectively address the current substance abuse crisis, help more people find recovery, and save more lives.

Mayor DeMaria stated, “There is not one person who is un-

touched by opioid abuse; we all have a family member, friend or acquaintance who has been affected by it. I understand how grave this issue is, and I am committed to providing the most possible resources and developing the best strategies to help those struggling with addiction.”

Every day more than 115 people in our cities and communities die after overdosing on opioids. The misuse of and addiction to opioids – including prescription pain relievers, heroin and synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl – is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as the social and economic welfare of our communities.

It is imperative that Congress work with the nation’s mayors to help curtail this public health emergency. As mayors representing millions of citizens, they are united in urging Congress to consider this request. As may-

ors, they share a responsibility for the health and well-being of their citizens, and that is why our local governments have developed and implemented policies and programs to address substance use disorder and support long-term recovery, but these programs are in need of additional federal support.

As Congress deliberates legislation related to combatting the opioid crisis, the mayors have asked for Congress to consider providing direct local funding to political subdivisions of states as part of a package of solutions.

Providing direct funding to local governments will help get resources quickly to where they are needed and help save lives.

Setting aside this funding would help provide communities with the additional funding resources to enhance prevention, education, treatment and recovery services options.

Mayor reacts to National Grid’s MassDEP appeal Special to The Advocate ational Grid filed an appeal last week regarding a Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) decision ordering the company to construct and maintain a public walkway along its property on the Malden River.

Mayor DeMaria reacted strongly to the appeal, saying, “I am shocked and disappointed by National Grid’s decision to appeal DEP’s requirement for them to build and maintain a public pathway along their property. Every other property owner along the Malden River has either built or committed to build a pathway. For over 50 years National Grid has blocked access to the Malden River and has built a prison-like structure on their property complete with barbed wire fencing and spotlights.

“Instead of a seamless Greenway that would serve tens of thousands of residents in Everett, Malden and Medford, National Grid wants to block ac-

cess and continue the inequity our residents have faced for decades. This is an outrage and I will work with our neighboring communities and advocates to force National Grid to fulfill their legal and moral obligation to build this path.”

In a November 2016 hearing at Everett City Hall, Mayor DeMaria, along with over two dozen elected officials and citizens, spoke and submitted written comments calling for National Grid to build a waterfront path

along the entirety of its property and connect to the planned Malden River Greenway. At that time, National Grid proposed a short 100-foot path with the remaining 2,000-plus feet of riverfront blocked off from the public.

Three weeks ago MassDEP issued a decision coming down on the side of the community, implementing an important step towards creating a unified pathway along the river in the communities of Everett, Malden and Medford. The hope was that the public would finally have direct access to the river, which they have not had for 100 years.

With this appeal, a key link in the Malden River Greenway plan that was finalized last summer is still up in the air. That plan calls for a series of uninterrupted walking paths along the Malden River on both sides of the waterway – incorporating public and private property in Everett, Medford and Malden.

The appeal will now go through the adjudicatory process at MassDEP.

CHA physician shares communication advice for Healthy Aging Month Submitted by Jonathan Burns, MD, Medical Director, Elder Service Plan, Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) ow well you and your doctor or nurse practitioner communicate with each other is one of the most important parts of receiving good health care. But talking to your health care provider isn’t always easy.

It takes time and effort on your part as well as theirs. In celebration of September as Healthy Aging month, team members of CHA’s Elder Service Plan are sharing advice for older adults.

As a patient, you are not powerless when it comes to effective communication in the exam room. This means asking questions if the doctor’s explanations or instructions are unclear, bringing up problems even if the doctor doesn’t ask and letting the doctor know if

you have concerns about a particular treatment or change in your daily life. Taking an active role in your health care puts the responsibility for good communication on both you and the provider.

When you’re older, it becomes even more important to talk often with your doctor.

That’s partly because you may have more health conditions and treatments to discuss. It’s also because your health has a big impact on other parts of your life and that needs to be discussed. Clear and honest communication between you and your physician or nurse practitioner can help you both make smart choices about your health.

Here are a few tips that can help you talk to your doctor or nurse practitioner and make the most of your appointment: Write down a list of questions and concerns before your appointment. Make a list of what you want to discuss. For example, do you have a new symptom you want to ask the doctor about? Do you want to get a flu shot? Are you concerned about how a treatment is affecting your daily life? If you have more than a few items to discuss, put them in order and ask about the most important items first.

Don’t put off the things that are really on your mind until the end of your appointment – bring them up right away!

Consider bringing a close

friend or family member. Sometimes it is helpful to bring a family member or close friend along to your next visit. Let your family member or friend know in advance what you want from your visit. The companion can remind you what you planned to discuss with the doctor. Also, they can take notes and can help you remember what the doctor said.

Request an interpreter if you know you’ll need one. If the health care provider you selected or were referred to doesn’t speak your language, ask his or her office to provide an interpreter. Even though some English-speaking doctors and nurse practitioners know basic medical terms in other languag-

es, you may feel more comfortable speaking in your own language.

Always let the doctor, your interpreter or the staff know if you do not understand your diagnosis or the instructions they give you. Don’t let language barriers stop you from asking questions or voicing your concerns.

Despite not much cooperation from the weather, as it rained almost every day, the Scouts enjoyed the great fellowship of their own members, the awesome staff members and Scouts from other troops.

The Scouts learned many things, including fire building, cooking, marksmanship, swimming and boating. Aditi Dalal of Everett enrolls at Colby College ATERVILLE, Maine – Aditi Dalal of Everett, enrolled at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, this fall. Before classes began on Sept. 5, she took part in a weeklong orientation that included an introduction to academic and intellectual life at Colby, participation in an outdoor education trip (COOT) and an address by the Crawford Family Professor of Religion, Nikky-Guninder Singh, at Colby’s 201st Convocation. Dalal is the daughter of Jag Mohan and Sunita Devi of Everett.

The Class of 2022 was selected from the largest and most academically qualified pool of applications in Colby’s 206year history. MS-13 member sentenced to 23 years in prison for RICO Conspiracy OSTON – On September 10 a member of MS-13 was sentenced in federal court in Boston. German Hernandez Escobar, a/k/a “Terible,� 30, a Salvadoran national, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV to 23 years in prison and three years of supervised release, and he will be subject to deportation on completion of his sentence.

In March 2018, Hernandez Escobar pleaded guilty to RICO conspiracy and conspiracy to distribute marijuana.

According to court documents, Hernandez Escobar was a leader of MS-13’s Ev-

erett Loco Salvatrucha (ELS) clique and was previously arrested on a state gun possession charge. After his arrest, Hernandez Escobar was recorded suggesting to other ELS members that a 15-yearold member of the clique had cooperated with the police and that he was arrested as a result. Thereafter, the 15-yearold boy was murdered by MS13 members in a park in Lawrence. Hernandez Escobar also conspired with other MS-13 members to sell marijuana as a means of raising funds to pro-

Customers take note of McKinnon’s enhancements

The 1,400-square foot meat market installed old-fashioned ’60s LED lights that bend over, a digital display that is more visible from the street, window shutters and a roof sign.

Inside, staff installed a $4,000 food warmer and a $4,000 18foot deli display that holds 600 pounds of meat. Store Manager Joe Cucuzza said that they plan to install even more meat cases in the coming years.

The store, which opened in 1946, was a combination gas station/drug store/meat market.

The front parking lot was originally a gas station. McKinnon’s became strictly a meat market in the ’80s, according to Cucuzza.

New this fall, the 45-employee store is selling four kinds of lettuce from Urban Harvest on Revere Beach Parkway. “This area isn’t known for local vegetables, so that’s unique,” he said.

He said they incorporate foods based on their customer base, whom he identifies as extended family. For instance, they sell Goya products, plantains,

Balloons break power lines, cause outage on Elm Street

By The Advocate sually balloons are a sign of a happy occasion taking place, but on Saturday morning, two Mylar balloons found their way to a transformer on Elm Street and Harding Avenue, causing an explosion and a live power line to burst, knocking out power for customers along Elm Street. Firefighters answered the call as police blocked a section of Elm Street from Jefferson Avenue to Harvey Street, causing traffic to back-up into Revere.

According to a fire official on the scene, the balloons, which contain metal, hit the transformer and power lines causing an explosion.

Sheriff Koutoujian announces Great beginnings as Tide completion of the 19th annual rolls past Xaverian, 34-21

Over 1,050 cadets participated in popular summer program HELMSFORD – Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian thanked the cadets, families and community partners involved in the Middlesex Sheriff ’s Office 19th Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA) this summer. Over 1,300 youngsters applied for this year’s summer camp, with over 1,050 participating.

“YPSA is a true community program – it’s about our kids, our officers and firefighters, and our hometowns,” said Sheriff Koutoujian. “I am so happy we could welcome over 1,000 children to the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office this year to learn safety skills, challenge themselves and make new friends with classmates and officers alike.”

YPSA cadets experience a week full of activities structured around team building, safety education and engagement with law enforcement officials.

This year, a $23,500 grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) allowed the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office to accept an additional 146 cadets from its waitlist as well as hire additional staff.

“We are incredibly grateful for

And in Everett football’s case, it’s a great thing as the Crimson Tide began their season with a new head coach, 800 wins – the most in the state’s history – and a season-opening win on Division 1 rival Xaverian’s home turf Friday night in Westwood.

The Tide had a lot to prove as they started their season under first-year coach Theluxon Pierre, a Tide alum and longtime assistant coach under John DiBiaso, who is now coaching Central Catholic.

The Tide were led by sophomore quarterback Dillon “Duke” Doherty, who completed 13 of 17 passes for 118 yards and two scores before halftime, with the help of senior wide receiver Mike Sainristil, who garnered 8 catches for 104 yards along with the two touchdowns. Sainristil also grabbed 15 yards on fourth down on two occasions to leave no doubt in Pierre’s mind that the Tide were doing their best.

But Xaverian fought back with two touchdowns thanks to Trevor Carroll’s strip sack of Doherty and a kick return by Cooper DeVeau – trailing 20-14 at halftime. But the Hawks had no answer for Everett’s new offensive weapon, senior running back Isaac Seide, who earned 13 carries for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Seide transferred over from Melrose after leading his former team to a Division 4 Super Bowl last season. Seide made quite a debut for the Crimson Tide team and their fans.

With an amazing record 800 wins and a new coach, the Tide still have the same swagger on the gridiron as Division 1 Super Bowl champs.

The Tide heads to Mansfield next Friday night – kickoff is 7 p.m.

He said they sponsor charities, such as sports- or holiday-related, and donate or sample hot dogs and steak tips for those events.

The bread and butter is their meat from Sharon Foods and Jimmy Carter Lamb and Veal based out of South Boston, which is cut daily, and their original tips are their best seller, according to Cucuzza. They accommodate catering orders and deli platters, by appointment only.

to make her own wraps and lean meat. “It still has great flavor but you have half the fat,” Pitre said.

Everett resident Cecelia Murphy, who has been visiting for six years, said her picks are ground beef to use in spaghetti sauces and teriyaki tips. She noticed that the waiting line is smoother, and she likes the exterior changes that the store made.

Everett resident Gary Caputo, who visits three times a week, was buying an olive/cheese platter from Deli Manager John Monaco, and the feature of the week, porterhouse steak – that was on the outdoor sign. “I walk here since it’s more convenient than going to a big-box store,” Caputo said. “They have good customer service, great quality

meats and friendly faces. I am called nicknames, such as Mr. Caputo, when I come in. They put their customers ‘Number One.’” He shared his opinion on the exterior enhancements. “I could see the new sign from about a quarter of a mile away,” Caputo said. “I love the colors.”

Everett resident James Howard, who visits weekly, was in the store buying rib eye steak and fish. “The meats, vegetables, fruit and fish are fresher here,” Howard said. He also noticed the sign, adding that he prefers the renovations over the original.

Live racing returns to Suffolk Downs Saturday and Sunday ast Boston, Mass. – Suffolk Downs will host the fourth and final live racing and food truck festival weekend of the year this Saturday and Sunday, September 15-16.

In addition to live racing, the track will be hosting a food truck festival featuring food trucks from numerous local vendors, craft beer, live music and family fun activities.

On Saturday, the average field size is 12 horses per race, and 133 total horses have been entered for the day, which features 11 races, seven of which have been carded on the turf. The featured race is a $25,000 allowance optional claiming race that carries a purse of $50,000 and will be run at about a mile and 70 yards on the turf.

That race has drawn a field of 10 with three contenders listed as also-eligible.

Tammi Piermarini, one of the most decorated riders in Suffolk Downs history, has been named to ride the three-year-old son of First Samurai.

Piermarini is closing in on 2,500 career victories – she is currently at 2,495 with three mounts scheduled at Finger Lakes on Thursday, and she is named on nine horses on Saturday’s overnight at Suffolk Downs.

The track will continue the $5,000 Jockey Challenge for the fourth weekend. The jockeys will be awarded points based on their finish position in a race with six points for finishing 1st, five points for 2nd, four points for 3rd, three points for 4th and two points for 5th. For any finish between 6th and last place, one point will be awarded. At the end of the weekend, the three jockeys that accumulate the most points will be awarded a cash bonus of $2,000 for 1st, $1,500 for 2nd, $1,000 for 3rd

and $500 for 4th. Dylan Davis took home the top prize in June, Pedro Monterrey, Jr. got top honors in July and Erik Barbaran led the standings in August.

Post time for the 11-race card is at 12:35 p.m. and gates open at 11:00 a.m. Live racing will continue on Sunday with 11 races. Over the course of the weekend, there will be three races restricted to horses foaled in Massachusetts.

This week, Beacon Hill Roll Call reports local representatives’ roll call attendance records for the 2018 session through September 7.

The House has held 216 roll calls in 2018. We tabulate the number of roll calls on which each representative was present and voting and then calculate that number as a percentage of the total roll call votes held. That percentage is the number referred to as the roll call attendance record.

Several quorum roll calls, used to gather a majority of members onto the House floor to conduct business, are also included in the 216 roll calls. On quorum roll calls, members simply vote “present” in order to indicate their presence in the chamber. When a representative does not indicate his or her presence on a quorum roll call, we count that as a roll call absence just like any other roll call absence.

Only 67 (43 percent) of the House’s 153 members have 100 percent roll call attendance records.

The representative who missed the most roll calls is Rep. John Velis (D-Westfield) who missed 156, (27.7 percent attendance). Rep. Velis is in the military in Afghanistan and his spokeswoman Emily Swanson told Beacon Hill Roll Call. “Since June, Rep. Velis has been and is still serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan and has been unable to cast any votes since his pre-departure preparation and departure.

Prior to being called up for active duty, he did not miss any rolls and had a 100 percent roll call attendance record.”

Also included in the top five members who missed the most roll calls are Reps. Luis Kafka (D-Sharon) who missed 102, (31.7 percent attendance); Evandro Carvalho (D-Boston) who missed 52, (75.9 percent attendance); Cory Atkins (D-Concord) who missed 32, (85.1 percent attendance); and Bill Straus (D-Mattapoisett) who missed 31, (85.6 percent attendance).

Beacon Hill Roll Call requested a statement from those four representatives. Only one responded.

National Survey Shows Majority of Americans Would Take Action to Prevent Suicide Americans overwhelmingly believe suicide can be prevented – and the public plays a role in saving lives.

ASHINGTON [September 12, 2018]—A national survey conducted online by The Harris Poll on behalf of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance), the public-private partnership working to advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (NSSP), and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the nation’s largest suicide prevention organization, shows that Americans overwhelmingly (94 percent) believe that suicide can be prevented, and most (94 percent) would take action to help someone close to them who was thinking about suicide.

While the majority of Americans would encourage a friend or loved one in crisis to seek help from a mental health professional (64 percent) or doctor or other primary care health professional (53 percent), many also recognize that reducing the number of people who die by suicide also involves educating the public (59 percent), improving training for healthcare professionals (57 percent), and educating community leaders such as teachers and clergy (51 percent).

“It is promising to know that more than ever before, the American public wants to play a role in suicide prevention and recognizes that mental health is equally important as physical health,” said Bob Gebbia, Chief Executive Officer,

AFSP. “In addition to improving suicide related care in our health systems, we must also do more to support people where they live, work, and learn.”

The survey findings also reinforce data released in June by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that show there is no single cause of suicide. According to the Action Alliance/AFSP national survey, the majority of Americans recognize that suicide has many contributing factors, such as: feelings of hopelessness (74 percent), being bullied (71 percent), financial issues (69 percent), relationships problems (64 percent), and losing a job (58 percent).

“Family members, friends, coworkers and others understand they can play a role in being there for someone who might be feeling alone, helpless, and isolated from various factors – whether that be a job loss, a breakup, or the grief of losing a loved one to suicide” said Bob Turner, Executive Committee Private Sector Co-Chair, Action Alliance, and Senior Vice President (Ret.), Union Pacific Corporation.

“For far too long, many people did not feel comfortable openly discussing this complex topic, but today we are at a tipping point in this country. The data show there is a readiness among Americans like never before to take part in tackling this issue to save lives in this country.”

Americans overwhelmingly agree they have an important role to play in preventing suicide – and most (78 percent) are interested in learning how they might be able to play a role in helping someone who may be suicidal – but they indicated they need more information and guidance on how to help.

For instance, the majority of Americans (70 percent) recognize that most people who die by suicide usually show some signs beforehand, but only 31 percent say they can tell when someone is suicidal. Additionally, only 38 percent of Americans say they would provide someone who was suicidal with a phone number for a crisis hotline or other resource.

Some helpful and hopeful ways the public can be there for someone who might be struggling or in crisis: • Learn the warning signs.

• Take action steps and help to connect a person to professional care.

• Share the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number: 800-273TALK – which provides 24/7, free, and confidential support. Military veterans may press ‘1’ for specialized care, or contact the Crisis Text Line by texting TALK to 741741.

“We are changing the conversation by confronting fear and misunderstanding with information and actions that help prevent suicide,” said Mark Weber, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs/Human Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Changing the Conversation Priority CoLead, Action Alliance.“We are work-

ing across organizations to provide consistent and sustained messages that encourage people to offer and seek help with the same urgency as any other emergency situation.”

Highlighting stories of hope, help, resiliency, and survival is a key priority for the Action Alliance and its many national partners in the public and private sector, including AFSP. For every one person who dies by suicide, 278 seriously consider suicide but do not die. These untold stories demonstrate recovering from thoughts of suicide is possible—and happening every day.

During National Suicide Prevention Month (September) and National Suicide Prevention Week (second week of September), it is important for members of the news media to consider positively elevating awareness of this public health issue by highlighting stories that underscore: prevention works, resilience and recovery are possible, effective programs and services exist, help is available, and hope is a reality.

“In addition to further educating and engaging the public, and spreading messages of hope and connectedness, reducing the rate of suicide in the U.S. will also require larger, more sustainable investments be made like we’ve seen in other leading causes of death, like heart disease, HIV/AIDS, and prostate cancer,” said Dr. Christine Moutier, Chief Medical Officer, AFSP. “We’ve seen a significant decrease in death rates in these other health issues—and it’s time we do the same to address this ‘preventable’ health outcome.”

OTHER KEY FINDINGS: The online survey – conducted

by The Harris Poll in August 2018 among more than 2,000 U.S. adults – assessed public perceptions about suicide and mental health.

The survey also found: • More than 9 in 10 adults (94 percent) say they would do something if someone close to them was contemplating suicide.

• Nearly 4 in 5 adults (78 percent) are interested in learning more about how they might be able to play a role in helping someone who may be suicidal.

• More than 9 in 10 adults (94 percent) think suicide can be prevented sometimes/often/all the time.

• Nearly 3 in 4 adults (73 percent) would tell someone if they were having thoughts of suicide – which shows the importance of having non-judgmental conversations.

• When it comes to their own health, 4 in 5 US adults (80 percent) say mental health and physical health are equally important.

In our current health care system, however, most adults (55 percent) say physical health is prioritized over mental health.

• Almost half (48 percent) of those who have spoken with others about suicide say it makes them feel better – showing that talking about suicide does help.

Dear Ron the Plumber, I just had my bathroom remodeled and thought I could save a few dollars and just have the tub re-glazed. I was not happy with the outcome do to the fact that in less than a week Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve noticed the tub peeling in certain places and there appears to be a leak. At first the sub-contractor that did the job said he would come back and do it over but itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s been over a week and I have yet to hear back from him. He hasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t returned my calls and Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m not certain that heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll be back. What do you think I should do at this point? ~Bathtub Dear Bathtub, Although this is not really a plumbing issue, let me give some advice.

In the first place, after thirty years in the business this is not the first time Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve seen a fly by night contractor pull a â&#x20AC;&#x153;Houdiniâ&#x20AC;?, sorry to say. It is always important to research any contractor or service you intend to use. Make phone calls and ask question about: * Years of experience and experience on similar projects. * Ask for proof of Insurances and copies * Licenses and sub-contractors (if any) to be used * Ask for a list of previous clients with similar projects It is not difficult to show a license or get an insurance certificate, if there seems to be a struggle getting this info, there may not be a license or any insurance to show.

My initial thought is that the tubâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s surface was poorly prepped, and the same contractor reconnected the drains. I donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t recommend re-glazing or resurfacing tubs and showers because they donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t always turn out the way you would like. There are many viable options in todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s market that will get you a better return on your investment.

I would install a new tub and investigate the condition of the existing tub waste and overflow pipe and if need be change it out at the same time. You may not have planned on getting a new tub but by doing so you will be happy with the remodel and you will sleep better.
