How a unique finish gets its start.

True to our pioneering spirit and obsession with taste, the Maker’s Mark® Wood Finishing Series offers unique and flavorful variations of our original bourbon. The process begins with 10 wood staves of varying types and combinations being affixed inside a barrel of fully matured Maker’s Mark® at cask strength. This allows us to highlight certain flavor characteristics from original Maker’s Mark® and create unique expressions – each with its own taste profile.

While the limited releases in our Wood Finishing Series will be available nationally, there’s one surefire way to add them to your collection every time. (It just so happens it arrived at your door.)

Whisky drop BOTTLE NO. 1

2019 limited release

Maybe better known as RC6, this was our first-ever national Wood Finishing Series limited release. And if you’ve been looking for it recently, chances are you may have come up empty. With more pronounced fruit notes balanced with baking spice and sweetness from classic Maker’s Mark®, it didn’t last long on most shelves. Lucky for you, you can now add a bottle to yours.

A ROM A Fruit and sweetness

TA ST E Fruit up front, a wave of baking spice hitting mid-palate and the classic Maker’s Mark® sweetness coming in at the end

F I N ISH Vibrant and bright with spice and sweetness perfectly balanced for a lingering, light finish

Whisky drop BOTTLE NO. 2

2020 limited release

With the reception of last year’s limited release, we immediately began work on a worthy successor. It took a combination of two stave profiles (SE4xPR5) to achieve something truly unique. With this release, you’ll notice a taste of butter pecan, creamy vanilla and dry spice followed by a long, round and dry finish. Savor this one. You may find it hard to grab a second bottle.

A ROM A Rich vanilla with spiced caramel

TA ST E Butter pecan ice cream, vanilla with creamy butter notes, dry spice and caramelized sweetness

F I N ISH Vibrant and bright with spice and sweetness perfectly balanced for a lingering, light finish

From the moment Bill Samuels, Sr., chose Star Hill Farm for his distillery because of the limestone-filtered lake he found there, Maker’s Mark has recognized that its future and that of the environment are indelibly linked. Situated on approximately 1,000 pristine acres in the rolling hills of central Kentucky, the Maker’s Mark Distillery on Star Hill Farm is home to our protected watershed; innovative research into wood science, forestry and grains; and the industry’s only LEED-certified whisky cellar.

Several other exciting new initiatives have been in the works on the farm, including a new solar array at our warehouse complex that offsets the energy needs of that entire operation, a significantly expanded herb and vegetable garden to allow Star Hill Provisions® chefs to create farm-to-table dishes with the freshest ingredients possible and new nature trails for better access to the lake. And on top of it all, we’re supporting the work of leading scientists using our property to study the health of white oak trees, the species used by the entire industry to make bourbon barrels, allowing them to better understand how to sustain this species as a whole and help it thrive long into the future.

Distillery sustainability

Ensuring our bourbon — and our planet — will be enjoyed for generations to come.
