These two Private Selection expressions both started with the very same Maker’s Mark® liquid we use in every bottle we make. But because Jane’s and Denny’s palates are uniquely theirs, the expressions are quite opposite in what they have to offer. Naturally, that means they’re a perfect fit for our drop. One Liquid AND A Dream How does a distillery that uses the same liquid to make all their bourbon make hundreds of truly unique expressions? Well, in looking to solidify his legacy, Bill Samuels, Jr., tasked the team with just that. The answer was inserting custom staves. What came from it was Maker’s Mark 46® – the very first bottle in our Wood Finishing Series. Since then, we’ve used the same process to let friends and partners carefully choose a unique combination of 10 staves, which are added to a barrel to finish aging in our limestone cellar. In the end, they get their own unique Private Selection expression out of 1,001 possibilities. Not bad for a single liquid, huh? PG

Jane Bowie Selection For her ideal whisky, Jane prefers pours that are darker, dryer and have a longer finish. So, when she created this expression in the winter, she decided to lean into these characteristics. Overall, you’ll get lovely notes of chocolate-covered figs. In her words, “It’s the kind of whisky I’d want to drink outside.”
AROMA: Fruit-forward with floral and tobacco notes
TASTE: Round, dark fruit with hints of chocolate and spice
FINISH: Long, dry and dark

Denny Potter Selection Denny tends to favor the sweeter side of things – looking for whisky heavy in vanilla – as well as putting a little more focus on texture. It makes sense that his expression delivers vanilla bean, cream soda and slight orange notes. You might also get a little spiciness as a nod to the whisky-making process. Typical Master Distiller.
AROMA: Vanilla, sweet oak, cinnamon and bright fruit
TASTE: Creamy texture with caramelized sugars and wood spice
FINISH: Round, long and clean with subtle spice
