Company philosophy

FILP produces in Italy since 1957, and sells worldwide thermosetting laminated composite materials, tubes, sheets and CNC machined parts, which, thanking to their technical features, are applied in many market fields.

FILP is an Italian reality but progressively internationally oriented, with a complete control of the supply chain, from raw material to finished product; this allows our Company to represent the synthesis between the advantages of the small company and the efficiency of the modern industry, with benefits in terms of waste reduction, as well as products quality and attention to customers. Applying this business strategy we aim to deal with the markets and meet new challenges.

Mission Be considered in Europe as a reference for the production of tubes and sheets in composite materials and be recognized by customers for innovation, great attention to service, customization and flexibility.

The plant in Tribiano (MI) is located on a 17.000 square meters area and is organized with equipment and facilities for the production and processing of pre-pregs, sheets and tubes.

1957 - The foundation: FILP (Insulations and Plastic Laminates Factory) was founded in October 1957 by Eugenio Marcassoli. The company set out with the production of continuous plastic laminates, phenolic or melamine paper, used mainly for industrial purposes as electrical insulation but also for decorative purposes as a coating of the wooden panels. Then, with the spread out in Italy of bakelite, cotton cloth and fiberglass, the product range was extended. 1960 - 1970 - The success on the national market: - FILP is a supplier of the most important Manufacturers of electrical equipment in the domestic market; - Beginning of the production of components for cassettes, which is a particularly tough market due to the competition of the far east countries.

2020 The challenge

1970 - 1990 - The years of growing: - Construction of the plant in Tribiano (MI), very advanced in terms of environment respect due to the installation of an advanced exhausts treatment plant with post-combustion process for the purification of the exhausts and energy recovery. - The Isoltubi is founded in Zanè (VI): the company was specialized in the manufacture of tubes and cylinders made of composite materials, later on it shall be acquired by FILP. - The Texas Instruments Italy gives FILP, together with the Japanese TDK, the worldwide recognition for the quality, the “Supplier quality award”. - The export on foreign markets successfully begins.

2000 - 2010 - The success on the international markets: - FILP is a supplier of the most important machinery manufacturers for the production and transformation of electricity in the world. - More than 50% of production is exported.

1990 - 2000 - Development: Technology - Quality Environment - The production of components for the cassettes is stopped while the plants for the production of sheets and tubes are completed with automation, thus achieving a remarkable increase of production capacity and improvement of efficiency and quality. - A modern system is installed for exhausts control, combining respect for the environment and compliance with regulations, with significant energy savings. - The quality of the process is accompanied by the quality of the product further to the achievement of ISO9001 certification.

2020 - The challenge: We are pursuing the development of new products by providing our customers also with consulting and services; we propose ourselves not only as a valuable supplier but also as a fully reliable and efficient partner. We are investing in technology, people and communication to make our products and our way of doing business well known to the market.

2014 - The new impulse: the Human Factor After the years of the dramatic international economic crisis, in which FILP managed to maintain its positions, it was necessary to respond to external hints with a new, slimmer and more efficient organizational structure able to seize new business opportunities.

Services Strategy and constant evolution: the competitive strength of FILP The strategic choice of FILP today, in an increasingly dynamic and constantly evolving market, is aimed to individuate solutions which satisfy customers’ requirements fulfilling their specific needs. This constitutes, together with the acquired know-how, the competitive force of the company: the ability of “problem solving” necessary to always find the right solution.

What makes us special

Expertise, experience and creativity The R & D activities play a role of excellence within FILP company’s mission. The R & D team of FILP is able to develop, working in synergy with the client, the technical solutions required for the production of composite materials. The working group has a well-equipped chemical-mechanical-electrical laboratory. The wide range of manufactured products and diversification across market fields, are a clear confirmation of the high commitment and creativity that characterize the R& D team of FILP. A team dedicated to the study of technological innovations aimed to improve products, create new manufacturing processes or improve the already existing ones.

The quality controls for development The control of the chemical composition of the products is made with the aid of instruments such as FTIR spectrophotometer, calorimeter, viscometer and other devices suitable to check the constancy of the quality of the purchased materials. Then there are control instruments on production lines and tools for the mechanical and dielectric verifications on the final composite products. From the entry of raw material to the finished product, there are more than 20 control steps. The monitoring procedures are supported by six-sigma statistical techniques ensuring greater confidence in the achievement of the required quality standards.

Product and process quality Our laboratory applies a strict and continuous control system, constantly performing tests to ensure that international standards of quality are complied. FILP is certified ISO 9001, and their staff has got two green belts specialized in lean production and Six Sigma.

Environmentally friendly business The care for the environment is one of the company values: it belongs to every single phase of production (photovoltaic plant, thermal energy recovery, process water recovery).

Research And Development

Customization and flexibility We have matched our facilities and our process to market needs to be ready to meet the requirements of our customers. Part of our production is sold as tubes and sheets, suitable for further processing; but the added value of FILP is the development, design and production of custom made composite materials.

FILP R&D and customer: a team The “problem solving” capability is one of the strong point of the company. The development phase is carried out in close contact with the customer. FILP offers itself to customers as a partner for the development of solutions to customer needs. 10% of human resources in the company are involved in R & D. For FILP this department has a strategic importance which is also underlined, every year, by the allocation of a significant share of its turnover.

Advanced CNC machining We use the latest technology for the manufacturing of finished parts according to customer drawings. Our highly qualified staff is able to process our tubes and sheets and transform them into any component ready to be assembled. FILP is able to produce round or square section tubes and cylinders with internal diameter from 5 to 2100 mm, made from the “pre-impregnated” (B-stage). They can be supplied with standard measures ready in stock or products based on customer specifications.

High pressure sheets These sheets, with dimensions up to [mm] 3540x1070x120, are made with high-pressure pressing techniques from the “pre-impregnated” (B-stage). They are characterized by high mechanical strength and exceptional dielectric and thermal properties. They are used in a wide range of industrial, electrical and thermal applications.

Low pressure sheets These sheets, with dimensions up to [mm] 2200x 1050x56, are made with low-pressure pressing techniques using glass MAT or chopped glass as support associated to polyester or vinylester resins loaded with mineral fillers and other chemical additives to create the combination of desired mechanical-dielectric properties.

Custom Products

High pressure sheets

Prepregs FILP produces “pre-impregnated” (B-stage) ready to be laminated and cured by pressure and temperature. They are made with various types of supports (glass or cotton fabric, glass mat or woven rowing, pure cellulose paper) impregnated with resins (epoxy, phenolic, silicone, melamine).

These sheets, with dimensions up to [mm] 3540 x 1070 x 120, are made with high-pressure pressing techniques from the “pre-impregnated” (B-stage).

Rods, threaded rods and nuts The rods, threaded rods, nuts and washers are CNC machined. They offer excellent resistance to moisture, corrosion and chemicals. They are adapted for use in dielectric oil and can withstand temperatures up to 180°C.

19 U & L profiles These profiles are made with pressing techniques using MAT glass or glass fabric as a support material impregnated with polyester or epoxy resin.

Machined parts on drawing With our CNC machining processing we are able to create three dimensional parts according to customer design through milling, turning, drilling.

Insulating cross-bar Metal bars of various sections for switches, breakers, diverters are coated with wrapped and pressed insulating material (epoxy glass or phenolic paper).
