Bethwel Yegon wins Expo 2020 Dubai 10KM Fun Run, Mayio comes in 3rd Hundreds of runners in Dubai, United Arab Emirates run alongside top Kenyan Olympic athletes at Expo 2020 Dubai at the first-ever Expo Run. The Expo Run was held on Friday, November 19, 2021, around the Expo grounds. Participants were able to choose from 3 distances; 3 km, 5km and 10km. Fittingly, the race began at the Kenyan Pavilion at 7 a.m. The race took runners past Country Pavilions, the Expo Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity Districts, and the Al-Wasl Dome at the centre of the Expo site. Bethwel Yegon, who finished second in the 2021 Berlin Marathon, won the 10km race with Jonathan Kiplimo Maiyo, who set his personal best time of 2:04:56 at the 2012 Dubai Marathon, coming third.

Other Kenyan athletes who participated in the Expo Run include Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala, Double 3,000m steeplechase Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi, Former 800m world champion Janeth Jepkosgei, 2013 London Marathon winner Priscah Jeptoo, 2021 and 2010 Nagpur half-marathon winner Hellen Nzembi.

The Kenyan Pavilion has attracted over 80,000 visitors since the start of Expo Dubai on October 1, 2021. This week, the Kenya Pavilion welcomed 11,464 visitors. 16th November 2021 The Kenya Pavilion welcomed a delegation of Ugandan MPs who were touring the Expo. The MPs commended Kenya for being a model to emulate in Africa for showcasing an array of opportunities that range from Agriculture, Innovations, Manufacturing, Infrastructure to Tourism.

Meanwhile in Nairobi, the flag-off ceremony for the Kenyan athletes travelling to participate in the Expo2020 Dubai Run kicked off. The flag-off ceremony was led by Commission General, Kenya Section at Expo 2020 Dubai, Dr. Wilfred Marube “Our athletes are our greatest ambassadors. Their presence at the Kenya Pavilion will boost our effort to market Kenya as a destination for investment, sports, and tourism,” Dr. Wilfred Marube said Africa’s fastest man Ferdinard Omanyala led the Kenyan delegation of seven athletes.

21st November 2021 The Kenyan athletes visited GEMS Our Own English High School in Dubai. The students who are aspiring young athletes were thrilled to meet the Kenyan Champions. The athletes engaged with over 200 children through a motivational Q &A session.
