Kenya among countries that pitched for business at 6th Global Business Forum Africa 2021

Kenya was part of the 6th Global Business Forum dubbed GBF Africa 2021 that was organized by Dubai Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Expo 2020 Dubai at Dubai Exhibition Centre. The 2-day event whose theme was “Transformation Through Trade” was attended by more than 1000 delegates from over 55 countries. It took place on 13th and 14th October 2021. The Kenya delegation at the forum was led by Hon. David Osiany, Cabinet Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development as well as key representatives from Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, MOITED, Kenya Private Sector Alliance, Kenya Association of Manufacturers, Fresh Produce Consortium, among others. The delegation took part in various B2B and match making sessions, B2G and G2G engagements.

The week that was

Tuesday 12th October 2021: Uganda Ambassador visits Kenya Pavilion

The Kenya Pavilion hosted Uganda delegation led by Ambassador Zaake Kibedi, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Vincent Waiswa. The Ambassador commended Kenya for the innovative digital showcase in the pavilion, giving the world a glimpse of Kenya’s opportunities in tourism, investments, trade, culture, sports among others. He also took keen attention at the infrastructural section of the pavilion saying Kenya’s growth in infrastructure means increased trade and investments in Uganda since Kenya is the gateway to Uganda. “Kenya is literally the gateway to East Africa. I commend Kenya for the recent infrastructural improvements that continue to open the East Africa markets,” he said. He was accompanied by Alfred Nnam, Head of Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Uganda, and other dignitaries. Uganda remains number 1 export destination for Kenya’s products globally. In the period between January to June 2021, Kenya’s exports to Uganda amounted to Ksh. 45.5 billion representing a 45% increment from Ksh.31.4 billion in the same period in 2020. During the period January to June, Kenya registered a positive balance of trade with Uganda worth Ksh. 30 billion in 2021and Kshs 20 billion in 2020. “Our bilateral cooperation with Uganda has been long-standing over the years. Uganda has been the leading export market for Kenya export products and services globally for years. We can only get better,” said Kenya’s Pavilion Director in Dubai Mr. Austin Macheso who walked the delegation through the pavilion. Key products to Uganda in 2020 were; vegetable oils, cement, salt, iron and steel products, articles of plastics, petroleum oil products, vegetables, pharmaceuticals, motor vehicles, electrical machinery, sugar confectionery, edible preparations, chemicals, cereals, and soaps & detergents.

Wednesday 13th October 2021 Uasin Gishu Governor at the Kenya Pavilion The Pavilion also hosted the Governor of Uasin Gishu County H.E Jackson Mandago together with his team from the County who were exploring investment opportunities for the County at the Expo. He said the County is ready to collaborate with the national government in seeking for opportunities for Kenya.

Wednesday 13th October 2021 Pavilion visit by National Chamber of Commerce Kenya pavilion also hosted a delegation from The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) who were also attending the Global Business Forum for Africa 2021. The delegation comprised of Exporters of various horticultural products including avocados, flowers, mangos, vegetables amongst others

Friday 15th October 2021 Kenya hosts Fomer Uganda Prime Minister Former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda paid a courtesy call to the Kenya Pavilion on Friday accompanied by key delegates from Uganda.
