EXPO 2020 Dubai is finally here! OFFICIAL PARTICIPANT - KENYA


Expo 2020 Dubai opened on Thursday 30th September 2021 with a lavish ceremony of fireworks, music and messaging about the power of global collaboration for a more sustainable future. Kenya has confirmed its participation at the Expo 2020 Dubai scheduled to take place between 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2022 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Pavilion is strategically located at the Opportunity District, next to the UAE Pavilion, and Al Wasl Plaza which is expected to attract heavy traffic during the Expo period. Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency is Kenya’s Responsible National Authority for the Expo Dubai 2020 which is the flagship project under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Enterprise Development.

Kenya Pavilion is themed “Feel the Energy” a representation of the Kenyan people’s warmth, hospitality, and heritage. The Pavilion aims to pass on that energy to its visitors, inspiring them to create their own opportunities and push for what seems impossible. Additionally, the Pavilion seeks to inspire renewed optimism that everyone can make a difference and show how collaboration can lead to lasting, positive change. Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman William Russell is expected to visit the Kenyan Pavilion on Monday 4th October 2021.

The Kenya Pavilion hosted the Rt Hon William Russel the 692nd Lord Mayor of the City of London. The visit at the side-lines of the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai aims at strengthening Kenya’s relations with the UK. The Lord Mayor was accompanied by the Mayoress Hilary Chaplin, the incoming Lord Mayor, Vincent Keaveny who will step into the role on November 12th, 2021, among other dignitaries from the City of London and the UK Pavilion.

The Mayor commended Kenya on its achievements in the Education, Technology, infrastructure, manufacturing and Tourism sectors, noting the progress made so far in ensuring the growth of the country’s Economy. He acknowledged the long historical ties between UK and Kenya, which have strengthened and deepened the social economic and cultural relations between the two countries. The Lord Mayor also commended the country’s strides in wildlife conservation and the unique tourism offerings visitors to Kenya can enjoy. The Lord Mayor received an authentic Kenyan name, “Kipkorir” which means “born at dawn”, from a unique feature of the Kenya Pavilion that allows visitors to receive a digital Kenyan passport and a local name based on various parameters including time, season, character among others.

Kenya’s delegation was led by the Consul General to Dubai, His Excellency, Ambassador Peter Mwendwa HSC, Commissioner General Kenya Pavilion and CEO Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) Dr. Wilfred Marube, KEPROBA Board Directors Ms. Leah Aywah and Veronicah Okoth among other Kenya Pavilion staff.

The Lord Mayor RT Hon. William Russel is an international ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector, he also heads the City of London Corporation, the governing body of the Square Mile dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, supporting a diverse and sustainable London within a globally successful UK.
