Since beginning the cattle business in 1958, Angus cattle has been the bread and butter of our livelihood. We are a family operation that includes my two sons, Brian and Greg, and their families. Just as I grew up in 4-H and FFA, so did Brian and Greg and raised their own cattle and showed them on the local, state and national level. And now my grandkids, the sixth generation, are doing the same thing. As I take a step back and the next generation moves us forward, my hope is to have laid a foundation for future generations in agriculture. Our cattle represent years of breeding top genetics to produce sound, functional cattle that are fescue-tolerant and are acclimated to Missouri’s climate. We are constantly striving to blend technology with a common sense approach to supply our customers with the best cattle we can produce. This year’s bull offering is genetically strong. If you compare EPDs, they are equal or superior to the average of Angus EPDs. There is a bull to fit every scenario. Many of the bulls are Show-Me Select qualified. To provide our customers with the highest accuracy EPD, every bull has Genomic Enhanced EPSs for added predictability in your investment. Any updates will be available sale day. The females are by far one of the strongest set of females we have offered in any of our sales. Decades of maternal excellence has been bred into these females. They are from the heart of the herd and in the prime of their life. These young cows are backed by impressive production data. Most of the cows will have calves at side or be right up to calving. Thanks for taking time to evaluate our offering and hope you can be with us on November 30. We are thankful to the many customers that have purchased cattle in our previous sales and are responsible for our ongoing success. If you have questions about the cattle, please feel free to contact us.

INFO FOR USING YEARLING BULLS: Depending on environmental conditions, pasture size, etc. the recommended maximum for stocking ratios for the first breeding season is 10-16 cows per bull for no more than 60 days. If you have more cows than that, you will need more than one bull and they should be rotated every two weeks or so. Take them out in the heat of the Missouri summer, the heat stress and fescue endophyte can pull them down and it will take a while for them to be ready to go again. After the first breeding season, young bulls will require a higher plane of nutrition than mature bulls. If managed they should be for full properly, prepared service in subsequent breeding seasons.

WHY SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON BULLS? Your herd bull selection will be the single most influential decision you make regarding your breeding program. On average, a bull will sire between 20-40 calves in a given breeding season, a single cow will produce less than half of this in her lifetime. It has been related estimated that nearly 80% of herd improvement is directly to bull selection. Studies have shown bulls used as yearlings sire lifetime more calves in their that bulls held until they are two. If managed well, buyers can oftenre-sell them as three or four-year olds and recover their purchase price.
