MISSION The Centre for Creativity (Center za kreativnost, or CzK) is an interdisciplinary networking, presentation, and development platform for the cultural and creative sector (CCS) in Slovenia. Its programmes help enhance the sector's social and economic value while forging stronger ties with the business and other sector's. Together with grants from the Ministry of Culture, it forms a supportive framework for the sector's development. The Centre for Creativity supports and presents activities that take shape at the intersection of different creative disciplines, art, experimentation, market, entrepreneurship, and business, and have not yet received a system-wide public funding. We promote interdisciplinary and cross-sector co-operation and the development of projects that are commercially viable, increase added value and aim to resolve social problems or contribute to social progress and welfare. by encouraging cooperation among the creative sector, businesses, the economy, and private and public sector.

for the development of entrepreneurial and specialised creative know-how and other skills aimed at the creative sector's growth and the transfer of creativity into the economy and other sectors.

aimed at the establishment of a network of partner organisations, at bringing together stakeholders from the creative and other sectors in Slovenia and at promoting the penetration and visibility of Slovenia's creative sector abroad.

Our trainings, conferences, lectures, workshops, mentorships, and consultations on how to apply to CzK grants have helped more than one thousand participants: creatives, creative companies, producers, cultural managers, creative mediators, entrepreneurs, and professionals working in private and public organisations.

Together with our partners from Slovenia and abroad we have organised a series of international presentations of Slovenia's creative professionals from the fields of architecture, design, music, visual art and heritage and participated in key internationals fairs and events, among them Milano Design Week, Vienna Contemporary, and Maison & Objet in Paris. We have established several partnerships within European projects and platforms aimed at creatives from various sectors.

“Promotion of Creative Cultural Industries – Centre for Creativity ” calls for applications conducted by the Ministry of Culture has up until 2020 provided 115 projects and businesses with funding in the total amount of 2,9+ million Euros. By 2022, creatives will have received subsidies in the total amount of 5.3+ million Euros, of which 65 % will have been allocated for the Eastern Cohesion Region. Additional stimulus is provided by the CzK Platform through the productions and co-productions for the development of innovative products, services, projects, and programmes.

The online platform contains presentations of 270+ creatives and mentors and has 1,300+ registered online users. In total, CzK website has been accessed by more than 190,000 visitors.

We have reached 1.500+ posts featuring CzK events and creatives in local and foreign media and have presented young Slovenian creative professionals through our media partners, pop-up stores and various other events and exhibitions.

We have conducted the most comprehensive statistical analysis of Slovenia's cultural and creative sectors in the 2008–2017 period, which forms the basis for the insight into the state and for further research of the sector.

CULTURAL AND CREATIV »The cultural and creative sector include all sectors whose activities are based on cultural values and/or artistic and other creative expressions, whether those activities are market- or non-market-oriented, whatever the type of structure that carries them out, and irrespective of how that structure is financed. Those activities include the development, the creation, the production, the dissemination and the preservation of goods and services which embody cultural, artistic or other creative expressions, as well as related functions such as education or management«1. The Centre for Creativity's focal areas in these sectors are: architecture, advertising, design and visual arts, cultural heritage, archives and libraries, books and publishing, cultural and art education, music, performing and intermedia arts, media, software and games, film and audio visual activities, cultural tourism and other artistic creations.

1 The basis used in defining the activities of CCS is the definition laid down in the Regulation (EU) No 1295/2013, the Creative Europe Programme. 2 Gross value added (GVA) is the basic economic indicator and the fundamental measure of economic activity and success. Essentially, it represents the newly created value generated by a company within a year. Unlike gross domestic product (GDP), which is calculated for the overall economy, GVA is suitable for evaluating the performance or contribution of individual sectors.

Biennial of Design Production Platform

The Centre for Creativity's numerous programmes build on the experience gained by the Museum of Architecture and Design in managing international production projects, among which the

Biennial of Design (BIO) is of key importance. Currently designed as a collaboration process between designers and creators from other disciplines who develop alternatives to the existing systems,

BIO has shown that an experimental interdisciplinary process is conducive to creative research and innovation, making social or entrepreneurial possible in the first place.

Internationalisation

23

Together with our network of partner organisations from various fields we ensure the creative sector's visibility in the international arena, attaching particular importance to architecture and design, and to creatives active in both. We regularly feature a national selection of contemporary design production in Slovenia, invest in new productions, and build a visibility profile of Slovenia's creative landscape for the international arena.

In 2019, our exhibition »We're Open!« made an appearance at Milano Design Week, the Maison & Objet furniture fair in Paris, and in the Kunsthall Oslo gallery on the occasion of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Slovenia with the King and Queen of Norway.

CZK PARTNER NETWORK PROGRAMMES CzK partner network programmes focus on education, integration, and interaction with creatives across various fields of the creative and cultural sectors. Programmes carried out by partner organisations constituting the partner network address the challenges, deficits, and current problems of Slovenia's creative sector. In many cases, CzK partner network programmes provide support to creatives for their own development programmes, they serve as a useful stepping-stone, and to many creatives they represent the first contact with foreign business environments and opportunities in the international arena.

MENTORS PARTNERS CREATIVES

Creatives, creative companies, selfemployed persons, artists, cultural producers, managers, and other profiles from various creative organisations. The heart of the action, without which the entire CCS support system – the educations, the networking, the knowledge exchange, its promotion and the investment in its development – would be meaningless.

Creative hubs – nongovernmental, private or public organisations active in the field of the creative sector; ministries, chambers, agencies, educational and development organisations; and representatives of the economy and the supportive environment for entrepreneurship and innovations in the Republic of Slovenia (RS). Their crosssectoral cooperation and activities contribute to the successful development of the creative sector, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the RS. They participate in the formulation of local and national policies, support programmes and other activities.

Individuals and companies with creative, business, financial, marketing, and other specialized knowledge and expertise. Mentorships encourage the transfer of knowledge and competences while enabling a firsthand insight into the developments on local and global markets through individual meetings.

FEEDBACK

There is a deep abyss between ‘nothing’ and ‘something’, making us creatives balance on its edge, too. Sometimes this ‘something’ seems to be particularly far away, completely outside of our comfort zone, somewhere between businessmen and other men wearing ties. At that particular moment it is important that you are surrounded by people who understand your vision. The Centre for Creativity gave Kobi the opportunity to present itself at PODIM 2019 and nominated it for the Slovenian Start-Up of the Year award; we were later chosen as one of the finalists. Their trust and support have a profound meaning for us.

F E E DB AC K

Tjaša Piška Designer, founder of the Pirate Piška brand The cooperation with the Centre for Creativity has allowed me to improve my profile, find new opportunities and gain new skills. At the events organised by the centre I have the opportunity to meet experts from my field who are willing to share their advice and expertise, while lectures, presentations and networking events enable me to gather information on open calls and other opportunities to help me on my creative path.

51

Aleš Pustovrh, PhD, Assistant Professor Mentor, University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business As a mentor I provide advice to help bring an innovative idea to a stage where it becomes a marketing service (or product) that consumers need and are willing to pay for. From this point forward, building on the experience of other companies, I help them develop a business plan that will be viable in the long term and enable them to build a company with high growth potential. I also help them find investors who will facilitate and thereby accelerate the global growth of the company. In my view, a successful mentor should provide information that helps steer the development from an idea to a fast-growing company. A mentor should also assist the company in obtaining all the help it needs, including access to potential customers and investors. I hope that my mentoring has helped the Pontoon project achieve its full potential.

Jasna Klemenc Puntar Mentor, Marketing and Sales Consultant I mentor a very talented group of swing dancers from Studio Dansa, who decided to develop an app for the digitalization of dance choreographies called ‘Plesh’. My primary focus is the placing of products on the market and the related soft skills: how to manage projects, how to talk in customer interviews and ultimately how to proceed with the overall brand and product positioning. A significant amount of my time as a mentor of this project was spent for these topics.

Plesh is a mobile app for creating and sharing dance choreographies that enables dancers to synchronize their positions on the floor with the music. The project received funding from the ‘Promotion of Creative Cultural Industries’ grant in 2019. www.plesh.eu

Activated in cooperation with the Centre for Creativity and involving continuous lectures and workshops for the acquisition of new and contemporary knowledge in the field of music industry, the ‘Music Business’ programme represents an extremely important mechanism for the development of musical professionalism in Slovenia. This mechanism will be of crucial importance if and when Slovenia wants to join the European Music Moves Europe initiative which gives music prospects for a much greater role and importance within the framework of European cultural policies.

SOTO is always on the lookout for ways to join as many activities of various creative industries into one project as possible. How to organise a tradeshow for fashion designers and at the same time include local contemporary art, music, gastronomy, traditional arts and crafts, architecture, and product and graphic design? With the CzK partner network providing the opportunity to connect with the creative industry's many different sectors we are finally able to bring such ambitious international projects to fruition.

The WORTH Partnership Project is proud of its successful cooperation with the Centre for Creativity, the project's ambassador in Slovenia. CzK have shown great initiative with their proactive approach and commitment to the creative community in Slovenia and beyond, and helped raise its awareness of the advantages offered by WORTH open calls. The purpose of the support is to reach out to Slovenia's creative community and help it gain international recognition with the help of the WORTH incubator. These efforts have proved successful and we are happy to have the Centre for Creativity as part of our network that involves more than twenty country ambassadors from across Europe.
