A FRESH SELECTION OF CONTEMPORARY SLOVENIAN DESIGN PRODUCTION, LOCAL INGREDIENTS AND SUSTAINABLE PRINCIPLES!

czk.si/the-future-of-living

The exhibition, titled “The Future of Living”, began its journey in Vienna in March 2021 and has since been presented at 32 locations and design events around the world. The entire project, created under the auspices of the Centre for Creativity/MAO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of culture of the Republic of Slovenia, is one of the major promotional events of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2021. New crises call for new, fast strategies for their containment. The exhibition The Future of Living / Prihodnost bivanja demonstrates the innovative ways in which Slovenian design responds to future societal challenges with products that cleverly combine local materials with traditional craftsmanship. The projects showcased by the exhibition forecast the future of living in which raw materials are no longer available in abundance, production methods and human resources need to be rationalized, and products are adapted to a new generation of users who expect customized solutions. These come with innovative, technologically advanced production that producers and designers combine with their overarching love of life and nature. The products and services presented here combine creativity with a business vision. They spotlight the stories of fresh brands that express functionality, passion, innovative applications of materials, and new production techniques that build on regional craftsmanship and advanced techniques of sustainable production.

EXHIBITION AT DESIGNFORUM WIEN 5 MARCH → 25 APRIL

For the Center for Creativity, a national platform that supports and promotes Slovenian artists and the creative sector, this project was an amazing opportunity to introduce our designers at some of the most prominent venues and events around the world. However, this ambitious and challenging cross-sectoral cooperation not only showcased some of the best Slovenian design, creativity, innovation, and talent, but also showed us how the shared endeavors of so many different partners from all around the world can lead to long-lasting results. The results well beyond expectations, and well beyond the duration of just one project or exhibition. Anja Zorko Head of Center of Creativity

The journey of the exhibition was just amazing – it showcased excellent designs, knowledge, excellence, and professionalism. It was a celebration of cooperation, creativity, innovation; it generated meetings, events, new connections, business opportunities. For me, it was a rewarding and meaningful experience that made me travel (virtually) and discover new horizons and wonderful people. To be continued. Veronika Stabej, Ambassador Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia

The exhibition "The Future of Living in Vienna in the Museum Quarter Spring 2021", organised by the Slovenian Cultural Information Centre SKICA together with the Centre for Creativity, was an excellent promotion and a basis for further cooperation in the cultural and creative sector. The collaborations with reference institutions such as the Design Forum are particularly valuable. The products presented followed a sustainable component, an innovative use of local materials, and above all told us a broader story. A story that builds the future of living and further cooperations. Barbara Koželj Podlogar Former Head of the Slovenian Cultural Information Centre SKICA Vienna

With a new approach, which in addition to guided tours also offered concerts of classical music and dance, the "The Future of Living" exhibition in Budapest Kiscelli Museum reached many visitors who were enthusiastic about the pieces made by Slovenian designers. We hope to continue working together with Hungarian partners to show the best of sustainable Slovenian design to the Hungarian audience in the future. The Made in Slovenia Future of Living selection, which reflects the most important results and processes of Slovenian design, was a great success at the Design without borders exhibition. The section showcasing pieces made in collaboration with designers and artisans was especially popular. This was an excellent reflection of the commitment of Slovenian designers to sustainability. One of the most exciting aspects of the project was how each opening in a new location seemed to be an entirely brand new exhibition with its own character. The work of the designers was met with great interest from the public and members of the diplomatic corps alike, affirming the high global standard of Slovenian design. It was a privilege to curate and coordinate a project like this, and I am thankful to everybody who was a part of it. Zala Košnik Center for Creativity

The Future of Living series of exhibitions has helped to raise the profile of good Slovenian design internationally. It helped manufacturers and designers to expand into other markets and showed that we have more than 90 sustainable, well-designed products that have been awarded the Made in Slovenia mark of excellence in the last three years, demonstrating the innovation, functionality and sustainability of Slovenian design. It was a unique project and quite a challenge but also a very beneficial experience. It was a success from different points of view because of excellent cooperation with our local partners, especially the group of young Slovenian and Macedonian architects and designers with their very creative and multidisciplinary attitude. We will continue our cooperation with new ideas and new projects. Tatjana Kovačič, Minister Plenipotentiary Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Skopje

Thanks to this project, the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid got the opportunity to get to know designers who incorporate the concept of sustainability and collaboration into creativity as part of the process, an approach that adjusts to the values that we consider fundamental in the current contemporary world. Being part of such important design events for young designers means a lot of international recognition but also a great opportunity to see what other designers and design brands are working on. The experience surpasses straightforward exposure and involves meeting people, exchanging ideas, communicating design philosophies as well as just being in the center of creativity. This project, especially the exhibition in Berlin, has been quite important for the OM NOM brand, since I was able to track feedback almost instantly. A day after the opening I started receiving several web shop orders from a market I hadn’t entered before and it was a great opportunity to start a conversation with the customers, because I knew exactly where they came from and that they were genuinely interested in well-designed objects.
