Welcome to the Riverlights Multicultural Festival 2016. This year marks the 5th year of this dynamic community celebration of cultural diversity and a gathering of the extended multicultural community based in the Hunter.

Riverlights has grown, with around 30 different cultures represented this year. Sample food, enjoy the performances, learn a new language, meet new people and get involved in the range of activities on offer at this wonderful event.

Your Cultural Passport

This Cultural Passport is your guide to Riverlights 2016. Use it to explore the performances, workshops, demonstrations and Cultural Villages throughout the Festival. Be sure to visit as many of the 23 Cultural Villages at the festival as you can. There you can sample food, play games, dance, learn about each of the cultures and have your Cultural Passport stamped as a souvenir of your visit.

Language Treasure Hunt Grab your treasure hunt entry form from the Language Lounge and uncover the meaning of words and their language origins as you explore the Riverlights Multicultural Festival.

Meet new people at each of the corresponding Cultural Villages as you uncover the words. Write your answers in the space provided and then head to the Language Lounge to submit your entry.

The Lantern Sculptures Head over to the river bank to view the Yuulangga and Guwiynjarr large feature lanterns floating on the Hunter River. Each of the lanterns have been crafted with the assistance and guidance of members of the Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council.

Both lanterns are representations of stories from The Dreaming. These are the feature of the Lantern Flotilla which you won’t want to miss.

The flotilla starts with the Riverlights parade leaving from the World Stage at 8.15pm.
