REAL FRIENDSHIP Once upon a time, a rat, a rabbit, a crow, a gazelle and a turtle were friends. They lived happily in their cave. They liked and always helped one another. One day at noon, the weather was very nice and all the animals were very happy.

The gazelle was very beautiful and dancing. The rabbit was very energetic. The rat was very fantastic and romantic. The crow was very peaceful and careful and the turtle was very hardworking but slow… At noon, they were preparing the lunch. All of them were very hungry and they were helping each other.

But there wasn’t any salad in the meal. The gazelle said: “My dear friends, let me bring some plants just from those mountains across the jungle. I promise, I will be very fast and be back in a few minutes.”

The friends said: “Okey, dear Gazelle. You are really very kind.”

17

The Gazelle went out to bring some plants for the salad. She was running through the jungle singing and smelling the flowers.

The friends waited for her, but the Gazelle didn’t come back. They worried about the Gazelle, because they waited for an hour, but there was no noise from the Gazelle.

The crow said: “My dear friends, the Gazelle has never been so late. There is something wrong. I would like to go out and look for her.”

Other friends wanted to do the same thing. “Okey” said the crow “ we can go together, but one of us should stay at home. The Gazelle may come home. Mrs turtle, you should stay at home because you are slower than all of us.”

The animals went out to look for the gazelle. The turtle thought they were late. It wanted to help its friends. It made a mistake and left the house to look for its friends. On the other hand the crow was fliying in the sky to see the gazelle well. It saw a hunter walking around with his dog. 18

When Turtle arrived to the wood, she saw that Gazelle was in danger. She was in a hole and couldn’t come out. Rabbit, Rat and Crow didn’t know what to do. Rat had an idea. Two would go to the cave to take a rope and two would stay with Gazelle.

Rabbit and Rat went back to the cave (Turtle was too slow and Crow couldn’t take the long rope). Rat took the rope. Rabbit stayed at home making the pizza Turtle put in the oven for lunch before leaving home and that nearly burnt.

Back in the forest they tried to save gazelle but the rope broke. At that moment the Hunter arrived. The Hunter took Rat, Gazelle and Turtle but Crow could escape.

Crow went back home very quickly and told Rabbit what had happened.

Then Crow and Rabbit thought how to rescue their friends. After a while they had a plan. Rabbit, who was very energetic, ran out of the cave and picked up some magic herbs. He dried and mixed them with other components making” magic sleeping powder” and put it in a very small plastic bag.

19

Then Crow took this bag in his beak and flew away. Suddenly, from the high, Crow saw his friends: Gazelle, Rat and Turtle. Hunter kept them still in a hole. Then Crow saw the Hunter cleaning his gun and a big pot with a soup near him.

Crow poured the powder into the soup and left.

When Hunter ate the meal, he fell asleep. Then Crow and Rabbit went to the hole, tied the broken rope again and help gazelle get out of the hole. They were all in a hurry.

Rabbit, Turtle and Rat jumped on Gazelle’s back and they went to the cave. Crow was the first in a cave and waited for them with a pizza. They were safe in cave. They were very happy together.

This national day (23 April National Sovereignty and Children's Day) in Turkey is a unique event. The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, dedicated April 23 to the children of the country to emphasize that they are the future of the new nation. It was on April 23, 1920, during the War of Independence, that the Grand National Assembly met in Ankara and laid down the foundations of a new, independent, secular, and modern republic from the 23

ashes of the Ottoman Empire. Following the defeat of the Allied invasion forces on September 9, 1922 and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne on July 24, 1923, Ataturk started his task of establishing the institutions of the new state. Over the next eight years, Ataturk and his followers adopted sweeping reforms to create a modern Turkey, divorced from her Ottoman past. In unprecedented moves, he dedicated the sovereignty day to the children and entrusted in the hands of the youth the protection of this sovereignty and independence.

The children are the gifts of God to the human beings. They’ve always been the smiling faces of homes. They are also important to have a future. But the independence isn’t less important than having children for a future. Independence is like a child for a country. You can’t survive your country without independence. Years ago, our citizens had a great war. They fought against the entire world, and managed to survive our country. It wasn’t easy to do, but they could. There’s no need to explain how difficult it was. But if we’re interested in history, we can realize why the 23rd April is a festival. It’s because people make festivals to forget difficulties in the past and to celebrate their achievements. Our great leader Mustafa Kemal ATATURK made that date such a good festival that we can celebrate the one beauty with another; The Independence with The Children.

24

April 23 is celebrated the first children's festival in the world. Ataturk's Turkish children in recent years, foreign nations, which was a gift to the child to participate in festivals, this festival started. Gives a value of Ataturk's children, suffers from trips to schools, the course of religions, would ask me questions. «Today's youngest tomorrow's budget.» Said Ataturk, the government launched the tradition of leaving the students during holidays. On April 23 the newly elected boards of management units is left to the children for a while. This beautiful tradition is repeated every year. Area of residence is a public holiday on April 23. Children perform ceremonies speeches, read poems. Night lantern procession organized.

Gizem Koç

International Children’s Day or Children's rights Day is a holiday honoring children from all around the World. Children's Day is a family holiday and it is celebrated on different dates in many countries. Depending on national and religious traditions it can be celebrated in many ways. United Nations celebrates Children's Day on November 20 in the anniversary of signing Declaration of Children's Rights in 1956 and Convention of Children's Rights in 1989. UN suggested that every country will celebrate that day on a date which is most suitable for a country.

I’M THINKING MUSTAFA KEMAL

I am thinking of Mustafa Kemal: On a bay horse with a mane of flame He passes the high mountains, the deep seas. His gold hair waves in the wind, His blue eyes burning bright. I am thinking of Mustafa Kemal: In the burnt, ravaged fields of war He creates epics such as the world has never seen, Great armies follow him, Each soldier like Mustafa Kemal. I am thinking of Mustafa Kemal: Worth all the heroes of history He rules the boundless skies, A naked sword on a bay horse He goes from victory to victory. I am thinking of Mustafa Kemal. He did not die one November morning! He is still with us everywhere. He lives in all parts of the land In the veins of our hearts. I am thinking of Mustafa Kemal: His gold hair waves in the wind, I see his blue eyes shining bright. He enters my dreams at night. I kiss his hands.

Mother’s day Mother's Day is celebrated to honor all mothers and express gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. Most countries including US, Australia, Canada and India celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May. Mothers Day came into being due to the efforts made by Ms Julia Ward Howe and Ms Anna Jarvis. The Resolution for having a dedicated Mother's Day was signed by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914. Since then people across the world have been celebrating Mothers Day with joy and devotion.

36

FATHER’S DAY We celebrate fathers day at the second weekend of June on Sunday. We give presents to our fathers. Some people who work away from their fathers come to see their fathers and celebrate the day. It is easier to find gift to our mothers than fathers. I will give a wallet to my father this year. Last year I gave a belt. He liked it. I drew a Picture for my father. I hope you like it.

How do you celebrate fathers day in Spain and Poland?

SUMMER HOLIDAY We like summer because it is holiday in summer. It is very hot. Sometimes we miss winter. Many people have got summer houses close to the sea. They like swimming in the sea and forget winter. Our town is Tarsus. It is very close to Mersin. Mersin has got a long beach. In summer, many people go to the mountains. They have got houses there. They stay there for weeks. We have got a mountain house too. It is very cool there. It is very cold at night and in the morning. There are a lot of trees. The weather is very nice and the air is very clean. Some people don’t have enough money to have a summer house or a mountain house. They go swimming for a day or a few days during the summer holiday. They go out in the evening to eat ice-cream. The children play in the park. Some people fill the washtub with water for their children to get cool. The children like it.

Healthy living… How to live healthy? First: 5 meals We should eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, wholemeal bread and drink a lot of water. We shouldn’t eat many sausages, pizzas, sweets and hamburgers.

Sport We should play football, volleyball, basketball, go cycling, running etc.

Multiplicity of our classes Who said that everything what we are doing must be the same? Nobody! Multiplicity is very important, because when we are doing something new, in our brain develops new neuron connections. Read about it. It’s very important for our life.
