histoire n’a pas vraiment fait les gros titres. Elle est pourtant fondamentale. Début avril, la Commission européenne a publié des lignes de conduite pour le développement de l’intelligence artificielle. Une sorte d’armée mexicaine composée d’une cinquantaine d’experts de l’éthique, tous quasiment inconnus du grand public, l’a invitée à suivre sept recommandations : s’assurer que l’intelligence artificielle renforce les droits fondamentaux et n’aboutisse pas à une limitation de l’autonomie des Hommes, que les algorithmes soient assez robustes et fiables pour corriger les erreurs et les biais, que les citoyens puissent conserver le contrôle total de leurs données, que ces intelligences artificielles soient transparentes, qu’elles soient diverses, non discriminantes et accessibles, et utilisées par des changements positifs des sociétés, notamment en matière environnementale et responsable.

L’éthique est l’unique voie qui pourrait remettre les Européens dans un jeu qui attire toutes les convoitises. « Pourrait ». Le conditionnel est important, parce que les « concurrents » des Européens sont déjà loin devant.

D’un côté, Baidu, Alibaba et Tencent disposent de plus de données que les États-Unis et l’Europe réunis, 48 % des investissements mondiaux sur le sujet ont été réalisés en Chine en 2017, des milliers de « Silicon Valley de l’IA » ont vu le jour dans l’empire du Milieu, et des études montrent comment les Chinois sont en train de gagner la guerre des brevets et des publications scientifiques sur le sujet. De l’autre, aux États-Unis, le président américain, Donald Trump, vient de lancer son « American AI Initiative », sorte de fourre-tout pour réorienter les fonds fédéraux, mettre les données à disposition des chercheurs, établir des normes, recycler les travailleurs et s’engager à l’international. Le plan n’est pas « auto-exécutable » en l’état, a aussitôt critiqué Jason Furman, ce professeur de

Harvard qui avait conseillé l’administration Obama en 2016. Devenus prudents, les Américains n’hésitent plus à se féliciter des standards européens, devant la peur de perdre le contrôle de potentiels monstres d’intelligence artificielle. Le MIT invite les leaders politiques à aménager des garde-fous – qui n’auront jamais aussi bien porté leur nom – afin de s’assurer que l’intelligence artificielle reste centrée sur le bien-être humain. Au fur et à mesure que cette technologie s’immisce dans notre vie privée, la frontière est difficile à apprécier. Les assureurs ont commencé à sacrifier les prix de nos assurances automobiles, à condition qu’ils puissent avoir accès à une série de données qui les renseignent sur nos habitudes de conduite.

Cela devrait être interdit. Mais les coûts des accidents de la route, des morts et des blessés sont 10 fois plus élevés que ce que rapporte la fiscalité de l’essence ou des radars, par exemple. Et le phénomène sera exactement le même dans le domaine de la santé : se féliciter aujourd’hui d’avoir parcouru 10.000 pas, selon sa montre connectée, se terminera par des rabais sur les mutuelles de santé, contre les données qui concernent l’alimentation, la consommation d’alcool et de tabac, ou encore les habitudes de sommeil. Au rapport coût-bénéfice en euros, l’Europe doit opposer un raisonnement en valeur. Et espérer devenir une référence mondiale, comme cela devient le cas avec la protection des données. 

La première édition de l’ICT Spring a été organisée en 2010, et l’événement fêtera donc cette année ses 10 ans. Il doit son nom tout simplement à la saison durant laquelle il a lieu, là où la nature se réveille et les idées germent. De nombreuses conférences et tables rondes seront organisées et porteront sur trois thèmes : space, AI/digital et fintech. Un concours de start-up et de nombreux événements seront également organisés en parallèle.

The 10th annual ICT Spring Europe event takes place on 21 and 22 May 2019 at the European Conference Center. Attended by high-profile speakers, it includes expert workshops and an exhibition area with stations dedicated to AI, fintech, space and digital, and start-ups.

Paperjam spoke to the event’s organiser, Kamel Amroune, about what the 5,000 attendees from 72 countries can expect this year.

Described as the biggest gathering of the European e-world, who comes to the ICT Spring?

Kamel Amroune ICT Spring brings together international

participants from many different sectors. It hosts a ­Fintech Summit, an AI/Digital Summit, a Space Forum and events dedicated to fund industry experts, cybersecurity professionals, and European students. It also gives startups the opportunity to share insights, exhibit, and meet with key decision-makers. Attendees are a mix of professionals coming from the finance, IT, HR, marketing, web, and space sectors, but also VCs, investors, governmental bodies, and start-ups. We organise the international European championship for students in parallel with this event on the second day.

There are several headline speakers, but who are you excited to hear from?

For the first time this year, we have created a twoday conference dedicated to AI because it’s so topical.

Professionals are hungry for user case studies and concrete applications which rely on AI, deep learning or machine learning. We wanted our audience to better understand the proven strategies and recommendations experts can share.

The strength of ICT Spring is that it has a very diverse and rich programme. So whether you come from the finance, IT, HR or other sectors, you can always broaden your knowledge. For that reason, we did not focus on having one big guest speaker. We have many of them and each one has been carefully selected for the experience they can share on a specific topic. To mention a few: Luc Julia, Chris Skinner, Duena Blomstrom, James Chou, Brett King, Lord David Willetts, Jean-Jacques Dordain, Benoît Legrand and Douglas Feagin.

The exhibition space will include demonstrations.

Which are the ones to watch out for?

If you are a regular “Springer” then you should definitely explore the start-up village. They have really innovative products and different experiences to share as they come from many different countries, including Japan, Korea, Israel, Ukraine, France, Germany, and Singapore.

We will also have an AI village with robots powered by DeepBlue, and you can use the B2B programme to organise one-to-one meetings.

If you’re new to ICT Spring, then we recommend you select the conferences you wish to attend in advance, because you will not be able to cover everything.

This year start-ups have the opportunity to win €100,000 in prize money – who has entered?

We received a lot more requests from start-ups to take part in the event and exhibition than in previous years, with AI, fintech, IoT (Internet of Things) and cybersecurity dominating the 300 applications for the prize. With the “Pitch Your Startup” (PYSU) competition, the fintech accelerator NadiFin launching this year for the first time, and the different initiatives led by key Luxembourg-based organisations such as Lhoft, Host and the Ministry of the Economy, we are able to offer start-ups a wide range of opportunities and make their experience unforgettable.

Worldwide there is a shortage of ICT professionals, what will students learn at ICT Spring?

At the beginning, we created the Morpheus Cup to find the best talents across Europe for companies active in finance, IT, health, engineering, etc. The first edition took place in 2015 with the support of the European Commission and it Mai 2019 — ICT Spring —

has evolved from year to year. Now, we have an emphasis on the shortage of ICT talents so we offer students a very enriching day composed of conferences (how to build a start-up, what VCs are looking for, how to develop an app), and the chance to pitch an innovative idea in front of an international jury. Students will also have to take up some challenges on the stands. This will help them to develop their professional network, understand what is at stake in the working world, and meet with potential employers. We also invite European students to design the future on 22 May. Fintech will again be on the agenda, together with space technology. What will be covered?

We used to say that ICT Spring is the place where fintech, digital and science converge, and this year will be no exception. In the Fintech Summit, several main topics will be addressed, including the new banking generation, game-changer in payments, the exploration of the best fintech hubs across Europe, sustainable finance, blockchain for non-tech and crypto funds. The Space Forum will focus on leveraging data from space and offers a programme on GovSatCom for defence and security applications, open access to space with a view from Europe and China, innovation & entrepreneurship in space, including services to benefit agriculture, transportation & IoT, and big data and the business of space data.

AI and robotic technology transformation of finance are constantly in the media. What new ideas will ICT Spring discuss?

As I said previously, AI is one of the main themes of the event this year as Luxembourg is rightly known as a financial centre of excellence. AI for financial services will be at the heart of several discussions. Different speakers were solicited for their expertise and, for instance, a top-notch speaker from Microsoft is coming from China to explain how robotic technologies can benefit digital transformation in the financial industry. We have a session the second day entitled “AI for financial services” which will be led by Deloitte and, later, Jean Rognetta from Forbes and Clara Durodié from Cognitive Finance Group will talk in-depth on this topic. There will be a special session for 12 —

fund professionals as part of the Funds Event. AI is becoming a central issue for many organisations and, while Luc Julia (Samsung Electronics) will demystify the word “AI” on the first day, other speakers will share concrete user cases as well as their recommendations for applying the principles of machine learning, deep learning or robotic process automation in their work. There are bound to be fresh ideas, but you will have to attend the conferences to find out what they are.

What networks have developed from previous ICT Spring events, and which connections do you predict will be happening this year?

In 2019, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this global tech conference, and so many good things have happened since its launch. As usual, the event will welcome new exhibitors and new start-ups which illustrate ­Luxembourg’s outreach and influence in many key sectors. It will spread the word about the advantages of establishing your business here and the major connections that can be made. We have already seen several companies set up their headquarters in Luxembourg following their great experience at this event.

As an example, one of the directors of Nvidia came to a previous ICT Spring. Now, Nvidia works with the government to develop strategic partnerships. Another significant example was when Lhoft’s CEO first connected with ­Luxembourg four years ago at this event.

Our goal remains the same: to reinforce and strengthen the position of Luxembourg in different sectors, including ICT, finance and space, and develop its presence worldwide.

We are proud to see how the event has evolved over the past years and we would not have been able to develop it without the support of an entire community. We do not consider this event as solely a Farvest one, but a combination of outstanding local initiatives, and involvement and enthusiasm of our advisory board’s members, as well as the general will to put Luxembourg firmly on the ICT map.  S. L’internationalisation et la digitalisation constituent deux vecteurs de développement fondamentaux dans la stratégie de gestion d’une entreprise. L’ICT représente en effet 10 % du PIB national, 7 % de la valeur ajoutée créée, et 4 % de l’emploi total.

Et les bénéfices de l’ICT sont nombreux, notamment en termes de productivité des entreprises et d’accélération des processus.

L’ICT Spring, qui constitue une plate-forme de convergence importante à ce niveau, a réussi à se positionner comme rendez-vous incontournable au Luxembourg et en Europe.

nel, non seulement avec les locaux, mais aussi avec les entreprises internationales qui cherchent à s’établir en Europe : cela permet d’établir le contact, notamment avec des dirigeants. » Pour l’entreprise de conseil qu’est EY, la digitalisation des entreprises est un phénomène très porteur. « Ce processus nécessite un accompagnement en externe par des entreprises compétentes dans le domaine », ajoute Gaël Denis. Et l’ICT au Luxembourg se porte bien, selon lui : « L’e-commerce augmente, un groupe comme Alipay s’installe dans le pays, 200 start-up sont désormais présentes au Luxembourg.

Même le Brexit apporte sa contribution, notamment avec l’arrivée de sociétés de paiement non électronique. Et la dynamique non seulement se poursuit, mais s’amplifie. »

Ces dernières années, certaines entreprises bénéficient d’une croissance à deux chiffres. Bien sûr, on se sert aussi de cet événement pour son intérêt propre, admet Gérard Hoffmann.

C’est l’occasion de rencontrer des clients potentiels. » Quant à l’évolution de l’ICT Spring, Gérard Hoffmann est impressionné : « Petit événement à l’origine, il est maintenant devenu une vraie plate-forme d’échange internationale. Malheureusement, regrette-t-il, un manque au niveau des infrastructures et des chambres d’hôtel au Luxembourg limite encore son développement. »

« EXPLORER LES TENDANCES DIGITALES » « Au fil des années, l’ICT Spring s’est imposé comme l’un des événements tech majeurs au Luxembourg, estime Jean Hilger, CIO à la BCEE et head of digital banking and fintech innovation à l’ABBL. La conférence aborde des thématiques qui redéfinissent nos industries et nos métiers. Elle jette un regard sur le futur de la finance, du secteur spatial, du divertissement. Or, on remarque aujourd’hui que les acteurs traditionnels, les start-up fintech, et même les nouveaux entrants, œuvrent ensemble dans cet écosystème poussé par les initiatives de notre gouvernement. Ces collaborations redéfinissent les expériences clients en misant sur la flexibilité et l’instantanéité, et permettent la création de nouveaux services innovants. « L’IT EST AU CŒUR DE L’ÉCONOMIE AU LUXEMBOURG » Soutien de la première heure lors du lancement de la conférence ICT Spring en 2010, Jean-Louis Schiltz, senior partner chez Schiltz & Schiltz, se reconnaît même « une petite part de paternité spirituelle ». « Avant, il n’y avait pas de forum de niveau international pour la communauté de l’IT, témoigne-t-il. Pourtant, l’IT est au cœur de l’économie au Luxembourg. » Si Jean-Louis Schiltz se rend à la conférence, c’est en premier lieu parce qu’elle est multisectorielle. « Elle ne se limite pas au cloud ou au gaming, explique-t-il.

Elle rassemble désormais, au-delà, notamment des acteurs de l’espace, de la fintech, de l’intelligence artificielle. L’autre raison de son intérêt est son orientation internationale, continue-t-il. Le monde entier est présent, que ce soit les USA, l’Asie, ou bien sûr l’Europe. La dimension internationale de cet événement est d’ailleurs un facteur-clé de son succès, la preuve de sa réussite étant qu’il grandit d’année en année et qu’il est devenu un passage obligé pour tous les acteurs de l’IT. » De fait, « la digitalisation est désormais partout, estime Jean-Louis Schiltz. Ce secteur est devenu un grand pan de l’économie luxembourgeoise. Il bouillonne, mais doit continuer d’innover et de s’ouvrir vers le monde. »

« DÉCOUVRIR LES NICHES DANS LESQUELLES INVESTIR » Le Luxembourg Business Angel Network (LBAN) participe à la conférence ICT Spring depuis des années. « C’est un événement sympathique et de très haute qualité :

Nous profitons de l’événement pour nous renseigner sur les innovations dans le secteur du digital. Il y a un vrai besoin, et ce dans tous les secteurs de l’entreprise.

« UN ÉVÉNEMENT DE PREMIER ORDRE » Si Luc Decker, directeur exécutif du LTIO (Luxembourg Trade and Invest) et consul général à Shanghai, se rend pour la première fois en personne à la conférence ICT Spring, ce sera accompagné de trois speakers et de trois start-up chinoises, Block Continent, Perspicace et Ultrain. « Quelques années auparavant, les start-up chinoises ne regardaient pas à l’international, explique-t-il. Le développement économique exponentiel de la Chine, l’impact important du digital dans ce pays, tout cela a contribué à faire évoluer la stratégie de développement économique du gouvernement luxembourgeois, et donc du LTIO, envers la Chine, notamment en l’orientant davantage vers la technologie et les start-up. « METTRE EN VALEUR L’ÉCOSYSTÈME DE LA FINTECH » Depuis sa création en avril 2017, la Lhoft (Luxembourg House of Financial Technology) se rend chaque année à la conférence ICT Spring. En tant que co-organisateur du programme fintech aux côtés de Farvest, la Lhoft sera cette année acteur de cette édition. « La technologie financière, c’est notre raison d’exister, explique Manon Loison, head of marketing. Or, l’ICT Spring est une conférence majeure sur la technologie et l’ICT, et il existe une forte demande concernant la fintech. C’est l’opportunité de créer des connexions, de collaborer et de s’assurer une visibilité sur la scène de la fintech luxembourgeoise et internationale. Il s’agit notamment, pour la Lhoft, d’établir un écosystème où les acteurs de la fintech, comme les start-up et les entreprises de consulting, se parlent. » Si la Lhoft a accru sa participation, c’est parce que « chaque année, la conférence prend de l’ampleur et gagne en résonnance internationale, estime Manon Loison. Et la qualité des speakers est toujours meilleure.

En outre, elle met en valeur l’écosystème de la fintech, notre cœur de métier, ainsi que le Luxembourg, qui a pris le virage de la digitalisation, notamment en soutenant la transformation des secteurs financiers afin de garantir leur pérennité. »

« FAIRE NAÎTRE DES IDÉES ET DE NOUVEAUX PROJETS » « L’ICT Spring grandit chaque année un peu plus, témoigne Mélanie Delannoy, responsable marketing et communication chez GovSat. C’est impressionnant de voir l’évolution d’un événement au fil du temps.

La conférence suit de près les tendances du marché et les attentes des experts, et la qualité des speakers et des thèmes abordés est un atout majeur. L’ICT Spring est devenu incontournable tant pour le networking que pour faire naître des idées et de nouveaux projets. Mon secteur est l’espace et, même là, les enjeux de la digitalisation sont indéniables : il faut voir les efforts des opérateurs de satellites au niveau de l’utilisation du cloud et de la transition digitale. « CONFRONTER NOS IDÉES AVEC TOUS LES ACTEURS » « En tant qu’acteur important de l’État, Post Luxembourg est très impliqué à tous les niveaux de la conférence ICT Spring, affirme Pierre Zimmer, directeur général adjoint. C’est l’occasion de montrer ses solutions, et que Post n’est pas seulement axé sur la télécommunication, mais aussi sur l’informatique. La présence de visiteurs internationaux et de start-up nous permet aussi de confronter nos idées avec tous les acteurs, de découvrir ce qu’ils font, de discuter et de comprendre comment eux voient l’évolution technologique.

L’événement s’est ouvert à plus de monde, à une autre clientèle, moins technique.

Et l’ICT Spring a le difficile challenge de couvrir tous les aspects de la digitalisation : les thématiques abordées sont désormais proches des technologies nouvelles, comme la fintech ou l’intelligence artificielle. Le Luxembourg n’a jamais été aussi bon qu’aujourd’hui dans le domaine de l’ICT. Le pays possède la créativité et

l’innovation. Le problème reste la mise en œuvre concrète des idées : il faut trouver la personne pour qu’une idée devienne un produit. Or, en intelligence artificielle, par exemple, on ne trouve que 20 % des besoins en main-d’œuvre sur le marché. Il y a beaucoup plus d’idées que de résultats concrets, à cause d’un manque de main-d’œuvre. »

« DEVENIR PLUS AGILE ET RAPIDE » Si EBRC (European Business Reliance Centre) est présent à la conférence ICT Spring depuis ses débuts, ce n’est pas en tant que simple spectateur, mais en tant que sponsor et contributeur actif. « Nous sommes une porte d’entrée sur le Luxembourg pour de nombreuses entreprises, estime Yves Reding, son CEO. La bonne gestion des risques opérationnels, la confidentialité, le centre financier, la rapidité et l’agilité au niveau décisionnel constituent les points forts du Luxembourg. Or, de par sa taille restreinte, le pays doit se spécialiser sur ces niches afin d’être meilleur que les autres sur le plan international. »

Growing the local space industry A

s the chief executive officer of the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), Marc Serres is in the perfect position to see how the fledgling local space industry might evolve – and he believes that the future looks bright for the Grand Duchy. Thanks to ambitious plans by the national government and comprehensive programmes covering everything from start-up support to primary school education, the space industry is creating a firm foothold in the local economy.

Serres’s keynote in the Space Forum at ICT Spring will look at the LSA’s new approach to the data-driven economy, especially with the recent launch of one of its flagship projects, the LSA Data Center, which aims to facilitate access to space data. Tied to the European Union’s Earth observation programme Copernicus, the data centre will provide free and open access to satellite Earth observation data.

“The idea is to offer better access to this data to companies and broader community such as research centres and administrations, so that they can build new services and applications based on data,” says Serres.

Serres oversaw the recent transformation of the Ministry of the Economy’s S­ pace­resources. lu initiative into the Luxembourg Space Agency in September 2018. “The creation of the agency is really helping to attract international partners, and continuing to increase the size of our sector means welcoming people from outside of Luxembourg,” he says.

Attracting new players from abroad is an important part of the LSA’s strategy, which aims to contribute to the growth and diversification of Luxembourg’s economy. The agency is now starting to introduce a wide range of services to support companies looking to set up in Luxembourg. “Traditionally, we had instruments to support R&D and innovation, but now we need to look at the develop-

ment of the sector in a broader sense,” says Serres. “We’re creating ecosystems to facilitate the development of companies with topics that go beyond space to talent development, education, financing and capital investment, recruitment and the regulatory framework.” He notes that in addition to the existing national law on space resources, a new legal framework that will encompass all types of activities in the space sector is currently under development.

With a wide variety of financing possibilities available to companies through national and EU programmes, the growth of the local industry is beginning to pick up speed. Several companies are already starting to show good results, with Serres pointing to the early success of Spire, Kleos Space, and ispace. “Over the last two years, there have been approximately 70 new jobs created in the space industry, a number which is evolving every day,” he says. “This could represent 400 new positions within the next three to five years.”

This growth should be further strengthened by the LSA’s holistic, long-term approach to space education through two initiatives.

The first aims at creating awareness among younger people through the school system.

“We want to inspire young students and motivate more of them to go into STEM careers, by helping teachers use space topics to illustrate other subjects,” explains Serres. The second initiative aims to have a more direct impact on the industry with the launch of an interdisciplinary space master. Delivered in partnership with the University of Luxembourg, the programme blends technology and business topics to give students the skills and entrepreneurial mindset to enter the space industry. BIO Marc Serres is the director of Space Affairs at the Ministry of the Economy of Luxembourg since January 2014. He heads the Luxembourg delegation at the European Space Agency (ESA) and represents Luxembourg in the council of ESA. He is also the vice-chairman of the ESA council until June 2019. Before joining the Ministry of the Economy, Marc Serres managed Luxembourg’s relations with ESA at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research as an industrial policy officer for eight years. Prior to becoming a civil servant, he spent five years in the satellite communications antenna manufacturing industry within the company Hitec Luxembourg, first as a project engineer and finally as a chief engineer for satcom products development.

Marc Serres holds a PhD in optoelectronics and a master’s in electrical engineering with a speciality in microwave frequencies, both from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium.

To the far side of the moon and beyond E

arly this year, China’s Chang’e 4 achieved a soft landing on the far side of the Moon, marking the first time a man-made vehicle has landed on the outside of the lunar surface.

The endeavour demonstrates how new technologies are allowing humans to extend their frontiers beyond the Moon and into deep space.

Meanwhile, the US recently announced it will return astronauts to the Moon to build Earth Gate for deep space exploration. Both initiatives mark a new era of human efforts to exploit the Moon as the base for deep space research.

In recent years, government efforts to explore the Moon have been joined by a proliferation of private initiatives. In the US, alongside NASA are entities like Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin and Elon Musk’s SpaceX. In China, one of the biggest changes facilitating the development of space start-ups like OneSpace, LandSpace, ispace and LinkSpace has been the relaxation of government. In 2015, China began opening its doors to welcome private enterprises and private investment to its defence and space community. This change initiated the start of the country’s commercial space sector.

country, China’s military and civilian integration policy, and the state’s One Belt One Road strategy. “I believe this change is just in its starting phase and will continue for a long while in China,” says Dr Wu. China’s annual budget for its space programme is USD 8 billion, second only to the US, and according to a recent report from Space Angels, an investing firm specialising in private space ventures, China’s private space sector drew USD 2 billion last year.

The firm reported that 2019 is going to be another massive year for the space economy in terms of financial and technical milestones.

In the first quarter alone, USD 1.7 billion of equity capital was invested into space companies, nearly double the amount deployed in Q4 2018. China now represents 3 to 5% of that, depending on who you ask. This might not seem like a big number, but keeping in mind that China’s entrée into the sector started about four years ago, it’s impressive.

China’s space start-ups have stiff competition if they are to succeed over the long haul. “I believe these start-ups have very good opportunities to become winners in space technology, depending on their business strategies and technical capabilities, as well as the overall development of commercial space in China,” says Professor Wu. “The winners will be those companies that have solid or core technologies in one or more space-related area, who have good technical teams that are well organised to proceed along a selected direction, and who can coordinate effectively with the development pace of China’s new space communities.”

Professor Wu’s ICT address will give a general overview of the micro/nano satellite community in China, presenting typical example projects and their related technologies and applications. He will introduce the major players in China’s micro/nano satellite sector in China, and then gives a perspective overview on the new-arising commercial space sector in China, introducing main developments and players emerging in China, with a prospective insight to the near future.  T. Space: a place for everyone I

t has been more than six decades since the first satellite was launched into the Earth’s orbit in 1957. As a result of expanding our earthly frontiers, major transformations have taken place in virtually every field of space activities impacting the way we communicate, conduct business and trade, provide services, travel and monitor our planet. Simonetta Di Pippo, director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), works to enhance international cooperation in space activities in order to promote their use for humanity. “Despite the fact that the space community is expanding, we are still seeing nations and their people with little or no access at all to the benefits stemming from the ability to utilise space for our advantage,” she says. Her ICT keynote address will consider the developments we have seen in the space sector recently and underline the inequality in technological capabilities between nations, and within nations. It will also touch upon the benefits of space for the lives of people worldwide, and the way they

have shaped society since the beginning of the space age.

Di Pippo sees evidence of space’s impact on life on Earth all around her. “Space technologies like the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Earth Observation (EO) and TLC play a vital role in our everyday lives,” she says. “From enabling communication to enhancing agricultural output, quality and availability of water, more responsible consumption and management of resources, improved disaster risk management, better weather prediction and understanding climate change, space provides countless opportunities for humanity.”

Naturally, space exploration also has an immense potential for economic growth. New national space agencies are being established every year, space start-ups are entering the market all the time and the private sector is becoming an active participant in the efforts to expand the frontiers of humanity. It is a sector at the forefront of innovation and human ingenuity delivering new solutions and tech-

nologies that proliferate in other industries and sectors. The space economy itself has grown significantly in the past few years, and the projections for the next 20-30 years see the global space sector expand at least threefold, making it another trillion-dollar industry.

“The emergence of new commercial possibilities and democratisation of space paves the way for new markets and actors, and economic opportunities not only for spacefaring nations, but ultimately, for everyone who participates in the sector,” says Di Pippo.

“The benefits stemming for our ability to utilise space are of key importance for a better life and better future for all. It is in the best interest of UNOOSA to ensure that no country is left behind.”

A FRUITFUL UPCOMING DECADE

When asked what the next big space-­ related invention will be, Di Pippo struggles to contain her response to one idea: commercialisation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) could prove as an important step towards opening space even more to the private sector, the confirmation of liquid water on the surface of Mars has inspired a search for the signs or remnants of past life there, India plans to launch its first crewed flight to join the company of the US, Russia and China in space exploration, the list continues. “On the ISS alone, over 1,800 experiments have been conducted and many are to follow in the next decade,” she says. “The next ten years will surely be yet another fruitful decade for space exploration. Several impressive endeavours are in store, many of them being projects with an international background and great potential for expanding our understanding of the near-Earth space environment, deep space, as well as our planet itself. In the past few years, we have seen a renewed interest in exploration of our closest cosmic companion – the Moon – which has again become a target of many space agencies, but also of the private sector. The United States has exhibited great interest in returning to the Moon and landing astronauts in a new site,

the lunar South Pole, potentially as early as in 2024. SpaceX, a private company based in the United States, already announced its first Moon tourist and also made public their plans for exploration of the Moon. Additionally, the US is looking into development of a lunar-orbit space station called the Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway (LOP-G), while China, ESA and Russia are developing concepts for Moon bases, also in the South Pole of the Moon due to the occurrence of water ice in permanently shadowed areas around it. The list of new missions and prospects is almost never ending.”

Amid all of the exciting new space initiatives, one thing is clear for Di Pippo: to make the most of these myriad opportunities, people and countries will have to work together. “International cooperation in space is almost as old as the space age itself. Space as a frontier of human knowledge and capabilities provides us with an unparalleled opportunity to come together to break the boundaries of science, technology and exploration for the benefit of all humanity,” she says. “In the initial stages of space exploration, we saw an ideological, political and economic competition of the two global superpowers. But in terms of diplomacy, countries have been exchanging views on outer space affairs ever since late 1950s, taking advantage of the convening power of the United Nations, as a platform for discussion among its member states on the international and multilateral level.”

Scientific collaboration has been going for just as long. In the early 1960s, there were attempts to establish collaboration between Russia and the US. Cooperation expanded beyond the exchange of meteorological and other data to more substantive efforts, including the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project of 1975 as the most significant milestone in cooperation between the US and the USSR at that time. “While relations on the ground have not always been ideal between nations, in space, it seems that the earthly conflicts can be transcended for the good of all people

and for the sake of expanding our horizons,” observes Di Pippo. “The best example of international cooperation in space, and one of the greatest projects ever constructed, is the International Space Station – an outpost of humanity circling the Earth for over 20 years. The collaboration of then 15 countries resulted in the most ambitious scientific mission of all time, which will continue to operate in the coming years and bring benefits of space exploration to all of humanity.”

Global space exploration serves as a new and viable scene for cooperation among nations. It is in the best interest of all to protect space for current and future generations and ensure that it is utilised for peaceful purposes and protected as a “global commons”, open and free for exploration and use by all countries. Space activities will also require deepening of international collaboration in the coming years because a vast scale of future projects, including ambitious plans on the Moon and beyond, will require enduring partnerships.  T. BIO Simonetta Di Pippo is the director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).

Prior to joining UNOOSA in 2014, she was head of the European Space Policy Observatory at Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI) in Brussels. Ms Di Pippo also served as director of Human Spaceflight of the European Space Agency from 2008 to 2011, and director of the Observation of the Universe at ASI from 2002 to 2008, where she started her career in 1986. She has been an academician of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) since 2013, and a member of the IAA Board of Trustees since 2016. Ms Di Pippo is also a member of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on space technology since 2016. She co-founded Women in Aerospace Europe in 2009. In 2017, she became a UN International Gender Champion.

“AI doesn’t exist” W

hen the co-creator of Apple’s virtual assistant Siri and longtime vice president of Innovation and CTO at Samsung Electronics states that “AI doesn’t exist”, you might be a bit taken aback. However, it turns out that Luc Julia is simply fed up with the myths and misconceptions that surround the field of artificial intelligence, in which he has worked for the last 30 years.

Hollywood films delight in depictions of dystopian futures filled with autonomous computer systems or killer robots, stoking general public distrust and misunderstanding around AI. However, according to Julia, these futures will never come to be. “The artificial general intelligence that we hear about in the media doesn’t exist,” he explains. “AI can do well in specific things, like chess or driving a car, but we are in control, we decide that.”

His upcoming keynote in the AI/Digital Summit at ICT Spring will expand on this, covering the history of the technology and the exciting innovations that can realistically be developed around it.

Julia, who held the roles of chief technologist at Hewlett-Packard followed by director of Siri at Apple before joining Samsung in 2012, has recently released a book in French under the title L’Intelligence artificielle n’existe pas. It delves deeper into the possibilities and constraints of artificial intelligence - a technology whose very name he considers misleading. “An intelligence that is above our human intelligence will not exist,” he says.

“The human brain isn’t a machine that could be built by us – there’s no way we can even get close to what it can do.”

He explains that what we call AI is based on algorithms developed over 60 years ago, which haven’t changed much since then.

bility of big data. “AI was able to use machine learning and statistical algorithms to look at massive amounts of data and make realtime decisions,” he explains. This led to the most well-known examples of machine “intelligence”, when a computer first achieved the feat of beating the top player in the world at chess in 1996, followed by the even more impressive win by a computer against the reigning Go champion in 2017.

Julia explains that the most significant developments in AI in recent years have been in image recognition, especially applications in the medical field, and in speech recognition, exemplified by virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa. He sees the potential for widespread progress coming to the medical field, combining the power of AI with big data to better detect diseases using imaging. A proliferation of assistants will also appear to help us with everyday tasks, controlled not only by voice but also the power of the body. He also predicts huge improvements in the transportation industry, not due to what he considers the fictional idea of fully autonomous cars, but by using AI to make cars much more secure to prevent countless accidents.

Julia sees no inherent danger in AI technology, despite the widespread myths in popular culture. Rather, he is more worried about the stagnation of progress that could be a result of them, warning that the life-changing developments he predicts will only be possible if we can better educate people on what AI can and cannot do on its own. His mission to dispel these myths is fuelled by his positive vision of the future and the fear that it could be held back by unfounded beliefs. “I want the technology to develop new things as there are a lot of good things to be done. But when people are too afraid, they just want to stop the advances.

BIO As vice president of Innovation & CTO for Samsung Electronics, Dr Luc Julia led the company’s vision and strategy for the internet of things and is now focusing on making these machines smarter.

Previously, Luc directed Siri at Apple, was chief technologist at HewlettPackard and cofounded a number of start-ups in the Silicon Valley.

He began his career at SRI International, where he founded the Computer Human Interaction Center and was involved in the creation of Nuance Communications, now the world leader in speech recognition.

Luc holds degrees in mathematics and computer science from the University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris and earned a Ph.D. in computer science at the École nationale supérieure des télécommunications de Paris.

He is also recognised as one of the top 100 most influential French developers in the digital world.

The superpowers of artificial intelligence A

rtificial intelligence is changing the nature of work. For many people, this is a scary thing. But Garry Bolles isn’t worried. “Robots and software don’t take jobs away,” he says.

“Humans give them away. AI is a label that we use for several different kinds of software. Because of the label, we think of it as a replacement for human intelligence. But machine learning software is neither artificial nor intelligent.”

AI leverages algorithms to sift information and make stats, which it analyses more effectively than humans can. A failure to imagine new work that humans can do by leveraging this technology can lead to fear. Bolles points to the latest automations as evidence: “The innovation is on the negative side of the ledger,” he says. “Managers in positions of power and decision-making feel pressure from shareholders to reduce cost, so we take human tasks that are messy and expensive, and we automate those. The business model has inevitable results. Those who don’t adapt

and change the way they incentivise their companies may have good reason to worry.

But there’s more opportunity on the possibility side of the ledger to help humans do better work.”

If power brokers agree that there needs to be a greater purpose to use technology to enhance human capabilities and to allow humans to learn, then the calculus will change.

Companies that continue to operate under the old rules of work won’t benefit from the positive side of this disruption and will be continuously caught off guard.

“Many organisations are struggling with not enough workers, yet the managers don’t feel workers are going to have new skills they need to do the work,” says Bolles. “We must challenge this failure of imagination. Most workers are working far below their skill level.

We should think about the workforce as a tremendous set of untapped skills.

Employers should be looking for a core set of soft skills and use technology to augment them: problem solvers, creators who can stay ahead of technology, adapters who can keep pace with accelerating change, and empathisers who can fall in love with the problems.”

Many industries are going through rapid change. Those that are safe are changing very rapidly. They are looking beyond the boardroom at all of their stakeholders: constituents, communities, employees, the planet – these are stakeholders as well. “If we recalibrate the way we think about how economies and societies work in terms of what our possible future might be, we will be better off,” says Bolles. “What is true is that we have all of the conditions today that we should be looking for in the future: open jobs, people who need work, people working below their capabilities. The real problem isn’t robots and software, it’s a failure of imagination.”  T. S.

Is it fintech or techfin?

A

ccording to Chris Skinner, finance and technology are merging into “this thing called fintech” and yet fintech is not necessarily where we should be placing our focus. In his ICT address, he will discuss how digitalisation is changing Planet Earth, not just finance (although he’ll discuss finance and banking). “Fintech is doing traditional finance cheaper, faster and better with technology,” he says. “But there are many parts of the world that don’t have traditional finance, so they talk about ‘techfin’. ‘Techfin’ starts with technology and wonders how it can be used to do new things everywhere, including finance. It’s very different.” Unsurprisingly, most fintech tends to focus on the low-hanging fruit of making an online payment or a cross-border payment. These are areas that have traditionally had high fees, high costs and poor service – that’s why there’s a strong focus on upgrading them. Also, many fintech firms have moved into other areas like lending, financing and savings. “You may be surprised to know that the majority of fintech firms are looking at small businesses, corporate banking, wealth management and investing,” says Skinner. “It’s not all about retail banking and payments. This is because most fintech focus on doing one thing well – like making an investment online – rather than trying to do what traditional banks do – which is making investments everywhere, using everything at anytime.” According to Skinner, the primary beneficiaries of this disruption are the customers and banks – if they embrace the change. The losers are those who resist the change, in particular banks that try and do their own thing or maintain the status quo.

On the other hand, “techfin” starts with the technology first, so they’re creating products that are radically different. “A great example 34 —

of this is an insurance start-up called Trov that lets you insure things as you use them,” says Skinner. “I’m going out today with my iPhone and Mac laptop worth $3,000. OK, I can insure this for the next 12 hours for $0.30.

That’s what Trov does, as do many other techfin, because they work in real time with products that cost virtually nothing to administer because the technology does the administration. I love that.”

Amid all of this disruption is a great fear that the technology is making a lot of people in the financial services industry redundant.

Many are concerned about their long-term relevancy, while others question whether banks will even be around in ten years’ time.

But Skinner isn’t worried. “I find it amusing to hear about technologists claiming that banks will shut down, be destroyed and disrupted by technology. It is not going to happen,” he says. “As long as banks adapt and change, which they tend to do. Let’s start with the basics. We all use technology a lot these days. Most of us have smartphones and Facebook accounts, and most of us don’t get that angry if our call drops or our update gets few likes. But if our money transfer fails or our salary payment does not arrive on its due date, then we get really angry. The difference is obvious: money is a key control factor in our lives, but technology is not.”

Those anxious about fintech’s impact should focus on education, learning, and skills that machines cannot learn. “Artificial intelligence and machine learning will get rid of a lot of human jobs,” says Skinner.

“Thing is that those jobs are the drudge jobs that humans shouldn’t be doing in the first place. Let machines do those jobs and let humans focus on fun, art, creativity and entertainment.”  T. S.

orld-renowned futurist, speaker, bestselling author and fintech start-up founder Brett King believes that the banking industry is undergoing a complete transformation, one that every bank needs to jump into feet-first or risks being left in the dust. His upcoming keynote in the Fintech Summit at ICT Spring, “Banking everywhere, never at a bank”, hints at how he sees the near future: “It’s no longer about going to the bank, but about the utility of the bank embedded in your world,” King explains. “As new technologies like Alexa, Siri and smart glasses emerge, they’ll make banking more immediate and contextual.” His interactive and immersive talk promises to cover the potential impact of AI and crypto technologies, as well as look at why the era of bank 4.0 isn’t just about adding on digital, but will involve changes to the very fundamentals of banking.

A celebrated figure in the world of fintech and financial services, King hosts the #1 rated fintech radio show, Breaking Banks, with 6.5 million listeners worldwide, and is the founder and executive chairman of Moven, a successful start-up that has raised over USD 47 million and offers the world’s first mobile downloadable bank account. His latest book in his bestselling Bank series on the future of the banking industry, Bank 4.0: Banking everywhere, never at a bank, looks at how banks must adapt to changing customer habits driven by fintech if they want to survive.

The key change currently underway is the global mass digitalisation of banking services.

“People don’t need to visit a bank branch, they can do the majority of their banking on their phone,” King explains. “That paradigm is extending with new customers, such as the unbanked in India and Africa, coming through mobile phone propositions. By 2025, there will be more people who got their first

account through their phone than a bank branch.” King points out that it’s fintech, not banks, that are currently leading the way with on-demand mobile banking services. He gives the example of Ant Financial, a fintech start-up based in China that owns Alipay and now has 3 billion customers across nearly 100 countries and a valuation of USD 150 billion. “You can see the trajectory – this is the kind of organisation you have to compete with,” he says.

King launched his own fintech start-up, Moven, in 2011, soon after the publication of his second book, Bank 2.0: How customer behaviour and technology will change the future of financial services. Realising that banks were not yet ready for the disruptive innovation he was advocating, he decided to make his vision of the consumer-focused mobile bank a reality. “I was really focused on the intersection of three emerging issues in banking: financial behaviour, social media, and customer experience,” King recounts.

Now an established name in the sector, Moven’s app focuses on financial health, using artificial intelligence, behavioural psychology and gamification to understand users’ spending habits and prompt them at the right moments to save money and make better decisions. Though not King’s initial goal, Moven has also played a significant role in helping traditional banks evolve towards offering mobile solutions to their customers. “We had banks coming to us, saying ‘We’d love to licence your tech’,” says King about the decision to offer enterprise software.

As a result, the software is now being rolled out to over 80 million users across eight geographies. “While many of the fintech started out saying that they’re going to disrupt banking, one of the ways is working with the banks,” explains King. “I’ve been vocal about the need for change and have been able to help.

The globalisation of payment strategy “

T

he financial services industry generally has been greatly affected by the shift to digital services,” says Douglas Feagin, president of international business at Ant Financial Services Group. “We launched the Ant Financial Technology brand in November 2018 to assist financial institutions with their digital transformation.” The company pioneered a blockchain-based product that facilitates mobile wallet to mobile wallet money transfer. The solution relies on a consortium blockchain made up of four parties: AliPay Hong Kong; Standard Chartered, which helps with clearing and settlement; GCash, in the Philippines, which receives the cash; and Ant Financial, which provides the technology solution.

Ant Financial has helped the digital transformation of over 200 financial institutions, including over 100 banks, approximately 60 insurers, and 40 wealth management companies and security brokerages. Its technology enables partners to provide financial services in a safer, less expensive and more efficient way.

ral years ago,” says Feagin. “For example, in markets like India and Southeast Asia, we see the key ingredients to a burgeoning digital economy: fast-growing mobile penetration, a rapidly developing internet economy and a growing base of middle-class consumers. In these markets, there is great opportunity to forge partnerships with local leaders to collaborate and learn more about the local markets.”

When mobile penetration skyrocketed in China, so did the opportunity of mobile payments. This mobile penetration made the adoption of mobile apps – such as Alipay – not only convenient, but an essential part of everyday life. Many are affected positively by the world’s increasingly connected financial system. This includes unbanked and underserved populations, who have more opportunities to access financial services than ever before. For example, medium and small businesses are being connected to new customers. Alipay helps merchants across the world connect with the ever-increasing number of Chinese travellers and consumers.

“Our mission as a company is financial inclusion,” says Feagin. “When we looked at the markets where we could roll out our product, we saw a real need amongst the Filipino community in Hong Kong, transferring money back to their family and relatives in the Philippines. This fits very much with our mission as a company.

We strongly believe that financial inclusion is a theme that is getting more and more traction around the world. And we don’t think that any particular trade tension or political dynamics is going to stop that trend.”

Trois minutes et trente-trois secondes dans la vie d’un entrepreneur numérique, et deux minutes de questions du jury, ça peut être très important. Les start-upper le savent : leur projet ne pourra véritablement démarrer que lorsqu’ils auront appris à le vendre au premier venu.

Dans un ascenseur. Dans un couloir. Au bar d’un événement, un verre à la main. Maîtriser son pitch dans toutes les circonstances et dans tous les formats peut changer un destin.

Dire qui l’on est, ce que l’on veut faire et comment on espère gagner de l’argent avec cette solution technologique. Montrer le produit est souvent un avantage. L’investisseur, comme le client ou le juge d’un concours, aime à voir dans quoi il pourrait miser.

Le CEO d’Aiva Technologies, Pierre ­Barreau, vainqueur en 2017 du concours Pitch Your Startup, s’en souvient bien. « Nous étions en pleine discussion pour une levée de fonds, avec le fonds de Xavier Niel et des business angels. Gagner ce concours nous a permis de patienter jusqu’à ce que la levée soit bouclée ! » À l’origine organisé conjointement par Docler Holding et Luxinnovation, Pitch Your Startup, jusque-là doté de 50.000 euros pour le vainqueur d’un concours de 15 à 17 projets, sera décliné en quatre versions : l’intelligence artificielle, le big data et le machine learning ; la cybersécurité ; les fintech, regtech, legaltech et autres insurtech ; et le smart living (avec l’énergie, l’internet des objets, la santé, les transports, etc.). Les quatre thématiques sont en prise avec à peu près toutes les start-up qui voient le jour.

L’IA, UN TIERS DES CANDIDATURES

Les organisateurs ont reçu 318 dossiers de candidature (120 pour l’IA, 19 pour la cybersécurité, 81 pour les « X-tech » et 98 pour le smart living). 72 dossiers émanent de start-up luxembourgeoises, qui représentent près d’un tiers des projets retenus, histoire que le concours conserve son ancrage local.

Il en restera quatre groupes de 15, qui pitcheront pendant trois minutes et trente-trois secondes (c’est précis !). Les vainqueurs seront annoncés pendant le dîner de gala au soir du premier jour.

Le vainqueur du concours « X-tech » ne recevra pas 20.000 euros comme les trois autres vainqueurs, mais la possibilité d’intégrer NadiFin, le nouvel accélérateur mis sur pied par Farvest avec MiddleGame Ventures et la Luxembourg House of Financial Technology

QUE SONT DEVENUES LES START-UP GAGNANTES ?

2015 WONDERMAGS N’EST PAS AU PAYS DES MERVEILLES 2014. Docler Holding décide de lancer un concours de start-up pour participer à l’émulation en train de naître, et s’associe à Luxinnovation et au cluster ICT. « Écouter ces entrepreneurs doués nous a fait nous rappeler comment notre société a commencé il y a 10 ans, dans un garage », se souvient le fondateur de Docler, György Gattyán.

Dans une salle de cinéma de l’Utopolis s’impose l’équipe allemande de Wondermags. Avec ses 50.000 euros et son package de services offerts pendant six mois chez Nyuko, l’équipe réunie autour de Sascha Brandhorst va pouvoir développer sa solution d’édition de magazines numériques. Épuré, intuitif, le produit pourrait séduire des producteurs de contenus indépendants. Las... Cinq ans plus tard, la start-up de Wasserbillig semble être en difficulté. Le téléphone sonne dans le vide et les derniers résultats financiers publiés au registre du commerce font apparaître deux choses : fin 2017, les pertes cumulées se montaient à près d’un million d’euros. M. Brandhorst et les holdings allemandes ne sont plus seuls autour de la table. Ils ont été rejoints par les Suisses de la Compagnie d’investissement du Haut Plateau, à Fribourg, et le Suisse Michele Trevisan. Une arrivée à suivre.

2016 SESAMM À LA CONQUÊTE DE L’AMÉRIQUE Petit à petit, SESAMm s’ouvre les portes de nouveaux marchés. En 2016, la start-up née à Metz de l’idée de Sylvain Forté, Florian Aubry et Pierre Rinaldi s’impose sur la scène de l’ICT Spring au milieu de 17 projets, devant Nomoko et LuxAI. Trois ans plus tard, la société spécialisée dans le big data et l’intelligence artificielle appliquée à la gestion d’actifs annonce, début avril, avoir levé 4,4 nouveaux millions d’euros, soit 8,8 millions d’euros au total en cinq ans... et a ouvert un bureau à New York, après Metz, Luxembourg, Paris et, avant la fin de l’année, au Japon, puis à Londres. L’ambition est d’atteindre 20 millions d’euros de chiffre d’affaires en 2021, contre un million en 2017. SESAMm a fourni ses services à Nikko Global Wrap, Candriam, La Française Investment Solutions, ainsi qu’à de nombreux fonds d’investissement internationaux. L’entreprise a également signé de nouveaux contrats avec des acteurs majeurs, tels que Groupama Asset Management, Raiffeisen Bank International, ou encore Nomura, première banque d’investissement au Japon. Des références qui dopent l’activité au même titre que l’analyse en temps réel de 250.000 sources d’information.

AIVA CONNAÎT LA MUSIQUE « Cela a été vraiment bienvenu ! » Ingénieur informaticien et compositeur, Pierre Barreau se souvient que le prix du Pitch Your Startup 2017 est arrivé alors qu’une levée de fonds – 650.000 euros, dont une partie auprès de Kima Ventures, le fonds de Xavier Niel – était en cours de négociation. « Cela nous a permis de patienter et de continuer à travailler. » Artificial Intelligence Virtual Artist (Aiva) ingurgite des dizaines de milliers de partitions pour en dégager « l’essence mathématique », ce qui lui permet de composer des musiques originales en moins de 48 heures. Le secteur du divertissement adore. De quoi s’offrir des bandes-annonces de films ou des musiques pour des jeux vidéo à moindre coût. Et en ce début d’avril, la pépite luxembourgeoise invitée à créer une œuvre pour la Fête nationale s’apprête à dépasser le stade des « bêtatesteurs » pour ouvrir petit à petit sa solution technologique aux professionnels et aux particuliers. L’heure de vérité, qui dira combien de ces clients potentiels sont prêts à s’abonner pour se lancer dans la musique personnalisée avec cette intelligence reconnue.

Et bien plus évoluée que ces projets de playlists censées aider à s’endormir, qui font la une des médias…

2018 EMPATH DANS L’AIR DU TEMPS Le concours passe pour la première fois sur la scène principale. En plein dîner de gala s’impose la japonaise Empath, capable de détecter les émotions dans la voix en temps réel et quel que soit le langage parlé. Hazumu Yamazaki donne de la sienne, de voix, pour faire comprendre que sa société, qui compte déjà un millier de clients dans 50 pays, entend pénétrer le marché européen. « Luxembourg est la bonne Place pour le faire », explique-t-il, avant de se faire conquérant, rêvant à voix haute d’aller chatouiller la solution de Google, Google Empath, sur ses terres. Empath est née des tremblements de terre au Japon, en mars 2011. Certains travailleurs sociaux qui assistent les victimes présentent des signes de dépression.

Le logiciel d’Empath va permettre de détecter les signes d’humeur négative pour diriger ces travailleurs vers un médecin. En janvier, la start-up a réussi un joli coup, au Japon, en s’associant à TMJ, cotée au Nikkei, pour ajouter un outil de détection à cette plate-forme de marketing, et donc « augmenter le taux d’achat », dit le communiqué publié le 8 janvier, avant un gros bug, dont Empath s’est excusée dans un grand souci de transparence.
