Bridge Between Two Nations

The General Zaragoza Society invites you to join them in their annual celebration.

The General Zaragoza Society hosts its annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration on the weekend nearest May 5th at the Goliad Co. Fairground. Colorful and cultural entertainment include Grammy-winning musical talent, ballet folklorico and Mariachi.

Numerous food and craft vendors provide one-of-a-kind and custom items. An IBCA BBQ cook-off starts on Friday night and a “Ride for Education” bike fun run takes place on Saturday morning. The closing ceremonies, with local and visiting dignitaries are held at the Gen. Zaragoza Amphitheatre on Sunday morning. All proceeds benefit local scholarships.

ZECA 2019 Zaragoza Education & Community Service Awards Program An awards program, recognizing those, who have made outstanding contributions to their communities, and have been nominated by their peers. The awards ceremony includes a catered dinner, social hour and auctions, it takes place in November. Proceeds benefit our scholarship fund.

Branch River park is a 4.2 acre park that links Goliad’s historic courthouse square to the San Antonio River, as well as the Angel of Goliad Hike & Bike Trail and the Ferry St River Access Site.

Coleto Creek Park & Reservoir 365 Coleto Park Rd • Victoria, TX

The Coleto Creek Park and Reservoir, located midway between Victoria and Goliad, is a joint project between Coleto Creek Power and the GBRA. At normal pool elevation it covers 3,100 surface acres with 61 miles of shoreline. The reservoir is fed through four major creeks from a 507 square mile drainage basin.

This is a nice tree covered park one block North of Goliad Town Square. A children’s playground is located on the East side. The park features two historic cannons recovered from the Battle of Goliad. A memorial monument, in tribute to Fannin and his men, was added in 1882.

Goliad Golf course is a 9 hole course. Price for 9 or 18 holes is $15 green fee and $10 per person for cart rentals.

Goliad State Park and Historic Site (Texas Parks and Wildlife) 108 Park Rd 6 • Goliad, TX

Goliad State Park and Historic Site is a 188.3 acres state park located along the San Antonio River on the southern edge of Goliad, Texas. In addition to recreational facilities the park property includes three historic sites - the reconstructed Mission Nuestra Señora del Espíritu Santo de Zúñiga, the ruins of Mission Nuestra Señora del Rosario and the reconstructed birthplace of Ignacio Zaragoza.

City of Goliad Take a walking tour of the Court­house Square and nearby historic district in downtown Goliad.

Start at the Market House Museum (205 S Market St) or the Goliad Chamber of Commerce (231 S Market St) to pick up a map. The 1894 courthouse, then stroll through vintage neighborhoods in the shade of centuries-old oak trees.

El Camino Real de los Tejas Visitors Center Hwy 183 S and S Burke St • Goliad, TX

Learn about the influence of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail in South Texas. The TPWD operates this facility.

Fannin Memorial Monument Lopez Rd • Goliad, TX

The Fannin Memorial Monument marks the common burial site of Col. Fannin and his men.

The monument is just east of the Presidio La Bahía.

Fannin Battleground 734 FM 2506 • Victoria, TX

Visit the Fannin Battle­ground, nine miles east of Goliad off Highway 59.

Mission Espíritu Santo State Historic Site 108 Park Rd 6 • Goliad, TX

Texas Parks & Wildlife operates the mis­ sion, which is on the grounds of Goliad State Park and Historic Site. The restored Fran­cis­can mission Nuestra Señora del Espíritu Santo de Zuñiga was home to one of the largest ranching operations in Texas in the 18th century.

Mission Rosario State Historic Site 1958-5802 Hwy 59 S • Goliad, TX

TPWD operated ruins of the 1750s Mission Rosario are about 4 miles from the park, just west of the town of Goliad. A historical marker and inter­pre­tive signs explain the history of this mission.

Presidio La Bahía 217 Loop 71 • Goliad, TX

Spaniards established the presidio on what is now known as Mata­gorda Bay in 1721. It and Mission Espíritu Santo relocated to the Goliad area in 1749. The presidio protected the mission and the frontier. The Catholic Diocese of Victoria operates the presidio. Stay the night by reserving a room for the night at The Quarters at Presidio La Bahia.

Zaragoza Birthplace State Historic Site 217 Loop 71 • Goliad, TX

Visit the TWPD operated reconstructed birthplace next to the Presidio la Bahía to learn about this Texas-Mexican hero. Don’t miss the nearby Zaragoza statue, donated by the citizens of Puebla, Mexico.
