DANNY BLOOR

Bloor was appointed First Team manager of the Sports back in November 2019, taking over from Lee Bradbury. He needs no introduction, having recently been assistant to Jamie Howell and then helping Mark McGhee and Charlie Oatway during their stint before Lee Bradbury took over in the summer of 2019. Having also had managerial experience with Worthing and neighbours Eastbourne Town, he will be looking to attract the best local talent and lead the Sports up the National League South table.

SPORTS SQUAD

JAMES BERESFORD (Defender)

James joins us from local rivals Lewes, where he progressed from their successful Under 18 side. Capable at full-back on either side, James was a regular in the Sussex U18 side who finished runners-up in the FA County Youth Cup in 2018/19.

JACK CURRIE (Defender)

Full-back Jack joins the Sports on a season-long loan from League One side AFC Wimbledon. Teenager Currie came through the Dons academy set up from the age of 10 and was even named on the first team bench last season.

MITCHELL DICKENSON (Defender)

Dickenson, 24, signed on for his second season at the Lane after a year at Hemel Hempstead where he played more than 20 times in the 2019/20 campaign as the Tudors finished mid-table. He started his career at Gillingham and made his debut in 2016 against Luton Town. Mitch had enjoyed a short loan spell at fellow Sussex side Hastings United in 2016/17, before spending two years at Hythe Town after his release from the Gills.

JAKE ELLIOTT (Defender)

One of the new faces for the 2021/22 season, Jake joins the Sports from Hastings United – where he played his part in a side pushing towards the title in the Isthmian League South East.

JAMES FERRY (Midfielder)

Central midfielder Ferry progressed through the youth system at Brentford before being rewarded with a professional contract in 2015. An ever-present in the U21 side, he found first team opportunities limited and joined Stevenage in the summer of 2017. After a handful of appearances, he spent time on loan with Nuneaton and Halifax Town before he joined Woking towards the end of 2018/19. After helping the Cards secure promotion to the National League, he joined the Sports in June 2019.

LEONE GRAVATA (Defender/Midfielder)

Capable on either side of the pitch as either a winger or full-back, youngster Leone has come through to challenge for a first team spot after coming through the club’s youth system.

JAMES HAMMOND (Midfielder)

Local lad Hammond first came onto the scene when making his

senior debut aged just 16 for Peacehaven & Telscombe. After a few seasons at Piddinghoe Avenue, the central midfielder was snapped up by Lewes. He played almost 200 games at the Dripping Pan, scoring 32 goals in his five-year spell.

DOMINIC HUTCHINSON (Forward)

Watford under-23 forward Dominic joined the Sports on loan until the end of the 2021/22 season. The 19-year-old, who signed a new professional deal with the Hornets in July, scored 16 goals for Watford U18s as captain during the 2019/20 season, before making the step up to Under-23 football last term.

STEVEN JAMES (Defender)

Central defender Steven James came into the club following a period of playing abroad. Having played for Burgess Hill Town U18, he played in America for West Virginia University before a spell in Sweden prior to returning back to England.

CHARLIE LAMBERT (Forward)

Powerful and mobile forward Lambert joined the Sports having impressed against Danny Bloor’s side for Peacehaven & Telscombe in the Senior Cup semi-finals in 2019/20.

GREG LUER (Forward)

Luer joined the Sports after departing promoted Woking, where he scored nine goals as the Cards secured promotion to the National League in 2018/19. Greg may be a familiar name with some Borough fans, having played for the club’s Under 18 side six years ago before he made the switch to Burgess Hill Town. It was from there that his career took off, as at the age of 20 he was snapped up by EFL Championship side Hull City in January 2015. He made his debut for the Tigers on the opening day of the 2015/16 season, before scoring his first goals in the League Cup that season against Accrington Stanley and Rochdale. However, with opportunities limited he went on loan to Scunthorpe United, Stevenage and then Maidstone United before he left Hull at the end of the 2017/18 season.

JOSHUA OYINSAN (Forward)

The powerful forward joins the Sports this season after playing for the likes of Bromley, Welling United, St. Albans City and Cambridge City – where he scored 17 goals in 33 games in the 2018/19 season on his was to winning several end of season awards. Winger Rollinson joins the Sports for a second spell after a loan stint back in 2018/19. The 21-year old began his career at Reading, from where the Sports signed him for the second half of the 18/19 season.

CHARLIE TOWNING (Midfielder)

The midfielder has experience at Isthmian League side Three Bridges, and made his debut for the Sports from the bench during last season’s curtailed campaign.

CHARLIE WALKER (Forward)

Charlie signed for the Sports in the summer of 2018 from St. Albans City. Having progressed in the County League, it was his 43-goal season for Peacehaven & Telscombe that attracted the attention of Luton Town, who signed him in 2014. With opportunities limited with the EFL side, he joined Aldershot Town in 2015, where he finished the club’s top scorer in his first season. However, he left in December 2016 in a bid for regular football. After scoring 16 goals in 18 months with fellow National League South side St. Albans, Charlie made the move to the South Coast where he has made himself a first team regular. Appointed club captain in the summer of 2020.

CHRIS WHELPDALE (Midfielder)

Experienced and powerful playmaker Whelpdale will be playing at Priory Lane this season after relocating to the south coast having played the last two seasons at Chelmsford City. Prior to his arrival at the Melbourne Stadium, Whelpdale notched up over 300 Football League appearances for Peterborough, Gillingham, Stevenage and AFC Wimbledon, scoring over 50 goals in the process.

LEE WORGAN (Goalkeeper)

Experienced goalkeeper Worgan signed for the Sports at the start of September 2021 after he left Dorking Wanderers. Despite having grown up in the local area, Lee had only previously enjoyed a brief loan spell at Priory Lane back in 2006 having come through the youth ranks at Wimbledon. At 37, Worgan has built a reputation for being one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the National League and chalked up almost 600 appearances across his spells at Hastings United, Tonbridge Angels, Maidstone United and Dover Athletic.
