SPARK IN THE DARK

SPARK IN THE DARK By Allan Shawa

I saw souls seeking ways to ignite flames to catch In the cold, seeking embraces to clutch With similar spirited individuals willing to combat in wrath Against the atrocities but there existed no match. As the night with its might invaded our day; The moon stood in the sun’s way. Let there be light, were the words from our lips, Hoping that God’s sparkle would imbue the eclipse; I watched as those bred for crumbs crumbled And crushed into powdered particles when trampled By the bombardments; the heavy pounds That glued their anatomies to the ground. When entrapped in the midst of adversity, I heard the laughter of the beasts increase in intensity. I saw the evil ones steering fear into our sphere, Like a needle, they pierced their stare deeper Into the eyes of the weak, While the skies turned bleak. The withered souls sought to exhale when in hell, But with no air of hope to inhale, There existed an infinite absence of inspiration Thus, erasing all respite or expiration. But from a distance, I marveled as the beautiful rose.

Amongst the thorny bush with a glow Emerging from the ground below, Purging the sorrow implanted in our core. The beauty indubitably uprooted the seeds of sorrow; Then nourished the faith of the premature And weary; those dreaded by the images captured By the lenses of the primitive minds; Undeveloped were the negatives inside The dilapidated hearts, Ripped apart by the hands that tear love apart.
