Wellsford Show returns in style Organisers of the Wellsford Country Show are celebrating the success of the November 19 event, promising that it will be back again next year. The A&P Show was a regular event on the Wellsford calendar for nearly 100 years but lapsed after organisers found it difficult to secure sponsorship and support. However, the gamble paid off for this year’s volunteer organisers, Lynette Gubb and Jo Wood, who decided to give the show “one more go”. For coverage see pages 24 & 25.
Mitchell and Martin off to Wellington Rodney will send not one, but two, representatives to Parliament after Saturday’s General Election. The safe National Party seat has passed seamlessly from incumbent Lockwood Smith to first-time candidate Mark Mitchell, who polled 18,580 votes, or 53 percent of the candidate vote. This was slightly down on Dr Smith’s 2008 result of 22,698 or 60 percent. However, in the party vote, support for National increased from 59 percent to 62 percent in Rodney, compared to the national average of 48 percent. Hard working Rodney Local Board member Tracey Martin, of Warkworth, is also off to Wellington as a list-MP after NZ First crossed the continued page 2
