HELLO!

THIS IS MAHMOUD MAHMOUD ELSAYED ...

I would like to begin by introducing myself.

I am an architectural engineer, computational designer by education and an explorer by nature!, I am passionate, determined, and ambitious individual.

Architecture, in its broad spectrum, has always implored me to seek new avenues, concepts and stories. As Architecture taught me to dream and being visionary, Engineering regulated my scope with limitations of logic and reason, which -I believe- both are needed to access new horizons on the ground.

As a child, I spent my formative years on the Asian continent. I then returned to Africa having undergone a series of significant experiences which have been cardinal in my personal and vocational developments. Furthermore, as I followed my higher education in Europe, I got to live other impactful years.

My diverse inter-continental upbringing and exposure to various cultures have refined my personality and prompted for more comprehension, and had been complementary to the parameters that shape who I am and essential to new perspectives, I seek to capitalize one as well-driven architect in his pursuit for continuous inspiration!

Architecture

According to the UN estimations, by 2022 the world population hit 8 billion. These legions of new generation basically attracted to the cities and city centers and main metropolitans seeking for development and better opportunities causing the rural urban migration.

Otherwise, rapid urban development beside many other factors causes climate change which adding a new challenge for the proposed solution.

TRIO Followed by the three previous mentioned superposition challenges. commercial, residential, administrative, farming …. etc.) activities or whatever a human activity it is which we need to respond and occupy; vertical solutions in heart of urban zones will represent a dominant solution in the coming era.

ADAPTIVE TRIO is a typical commercialoffice tower to represent a realistic solution that tries to integrate creative ideas with the determinants of reality, as it follows the municipality rules and adapts to its surrounding towers.

Surrounding factors remain in dynamic change, Climate Change and its consequences may be chaotic or systematic, or perhaps chaos contains a system, as in the case of the Rössler equations!, TRIO based on a morphological concept beside an environmental solution, mainly as follows:

Rössler three equations

Milan, as a large metropolitan city, attracted a large population, particularly in the city center, where a complex of Citylife is located, including a hub of skyscrapers, in the northern-west remaining part we have shaped (Adaptive TRIO).

These differential equations formed the base of the tower shape. Rossler attractor is a system of three nonlinear ordinary differential equations originally studied by Otto Ressler in the 1970s which define a continuous – time dynamical system associated with the fractal properties of the attractor, it is a respond for a chaotic-systematic dynamic change whichand its graphic representation was the base of the concept to define the tower form and its main structural frames, the inspiration leads to the form which continues to influence the environmental solution in order to have a direct response to this dynamic change, both based on ternary aspects.

The adaptive envelope unit with built-in sensors adapting to context factors (Sun radiation, wind context shading ...etc) is shown in all of its corresponding shapes in a plan views, down there is two perspective views for the unit in its maximum and minimum opening values.

CONTAIN-US is a cyclone-responsive architecture that investigates the concepts of design with scarcity in order to provide adequate housing for more than 4000 homeless people using (container) Architecture.

GRAND HOTEL

Grand-Hotel Beira was a luxury hotel in Beira, Mozambique. It was opened in 1954 and operated until 1974, when it was closed After decades, currently home to over 3500 squatters and displaced people because of the cyclone.

The hotel itself is domeninet of its scale and higher than the surrounding buildings and people live inside in deplorable conditions. This new living space and the surrounding area are actually very beautiful, but they have been pushed to the sidelines due to their current state and decades of neglect, but they still have the potential to become a centre of attraction! Population growth is one of Egypt’s major challenges, over 100 million settle in 7 percent of the available landmass till the Nile delta and its basin reached its maximum capacity! In response the country is establishing 14 new cities, which subsequently drove a boom in the AEC industry. Contrary to the historical base and away from the “Green area”, the urbanization of these new cities including the new administrative capital with its vast area and the Mediterranean coast city of El Alamein are located away in the depths of the desert!

Geographic, climatic nature of these extensions besides the consequences of climate change introduce new challenges into the design process. Commonly, the predominant local practice occupies only design trade-offs moving to the building technologies without involving a real consideration for the up mentioned challenges!

By creating a lighting path connecting its history, the Galliano barrack came back to life again by conserving its original shape but working around it in the Atelier “Compatibility and sustainability of architectural restoration” which introduced interdisciplinary topics between conservation and surveying.

Galliano Barrack is located in Mondovi on a hill founded in 1198 by survivors of the destroyed village of Berdolo, we need to follow all the building history and all the modifications over the last 800 years in a detailed chronological timeline detecting the elements, connections and masonry analysis than the current decay situation by following the NORMAL 1/88 of the material science for architectural conservation. For the outer part we had used UAVs for the aerial photogrammetry and DSLR for the terrestrial images, Also the interior parts we have used Point cloud technique ( pointCab) as a set of data points had used and producted by 3D scanners, Finally, we have introduced a new design project respect the historical elements to rehabilitate the building again, one of the design features to create the old church nave by lighting fixtures to introduce the building history to the new users!

Biella is a name of a city and a capital of the province of the same name, it forms a complex territory which has been considered as the cradle of the industrial revolution in Italy, inherited urban and social values which promoted the city now to defined as a creative city mainly with the luxury wool fabrics in northern Italy, Piedmont region. Climate change CC creates new societal challenges which affect the transformation of the society fabric ending with environmental displacement, because of, the whole socio-cultural-economic world has already affected the way that our cities perform not just the environment, we have to go forward from sustainable urbanism to climate urbanism to achieve real livable places and resistant societies. This shift is characterized by new policies, programs aimed to, considering climate alterations as a present condition instead of a future hazard and seeking to the actual implications on the case study of Biella’s Society, with the influence of built environment, Natural environment, Economy, and mobility, started by mapping the climate change potential effects through this approaches then tackling it through a systemic approach developing comprehensive spatial and infrastructure response with the aim of evolving new models of living together, finally to promoting the horizontal metropolis as a proper site of climate action instead of running local policies based on centers – peripheries narratives!

INTERACTION IN TORINO

The project for the Atelier is titled ( Interaction in Torino) suggests an initiative to increase the interaction and collaboration on and around the site through its function, to make it more lively safe and approachable .

The site plan is derived such that three zones created; Roots, Opportunity Hub, Student housing and Open Recreational space. The plan unfolds trapezoidal blocks to enhance the focus and direction are spaced such that the site imbibes free flow transition of pedestrian movement. The sunken centeral plaza is a distinctive feature as well. At the site level, sustainability has been introduced in the form of green roofs, micro-climate control through evaporative cooling, adding levels and using sunken plazas for public use that are cooler that the surrounding environmen.

The student housing is designed as a doubly loaded corridor with rooms on both sides. This monotony is broken by subtracting some rooms from the equations for punctures that bring in views, vistas, light and acquire the ventelation calculations. The sides of the housing that overlook the central plaza house functions of shared living and dining ares for increased interaction.

At the west building of the student housing we chose the first floor to calculate the daylighting factor and the and the fifth fourth floor for the loads and energy calculations , , the calculations sheets included the UW, thermal transmittance, Daylight factor and shadowing device and manual schema for UTCI

Rashid, the port city where the Rosetta Stone was discovered, is rich in Cultural Heritage and history. The workshop makes recommendations to revitalize the city as part of an initiative with the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.

Rashid is one of the heritage sites that are still on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list, the workshop had about 30 participants from Architecture, Urban Design & Planning, Heritage Conservation, and Sociology & Anthropology backgrounds from all of Egypt came up to set applicable recommendations to solve problems and develop creative ideas to upgrade the social and emotional rapport between the local community and cultural heritage in Rashid helping city to move from the tentative list.

Circulation was very important to achieve pedestrianvehicle separation and to manage all aspects of the project through creative environmental strategies and expressive structure solutions in such a comprehensive layout program and the diverse urban context.

Apple Inc. is the choice brand to design a new tiny electronic store.

The main inspiration is the byte and binary system as the foundation of the processor's function, while parametric design was the key to developing the design of the Apple's famous bite, to be converted to parameters.

Understanding how the processor performs, indicating the movement of electronics within semiconductors and converting data to the binary system with its unit of BIT, which can only have one of two values, 0 or 1.

The byte unit is formed of 8 bits, and the number of possibilities for one byte is 256. Using the ASCII table, we can see that the simplest information that can be produced from a byte is an A letter ( Binary 1000001).

Therefore, with differentiating the entering parameters, the information can be generated (parametric design concept) as a paradigm where the relationship between elements is used to inform new design possibilities of complex geometries and structures .

As an example, in the store, parametric equations and parameters were used to transform the shape of circles and curved lines into the company's logo by moving them using rotational equations with fixed displacement for the units to create a special architectural space that can be controlled by changing the input of the equations to create infinite number of possibilities just as in the byte case.

The main goal of this project was to try to study the sunken monuments in this coast location and shown it to the public through an attached museum with the research center. The Challenge was to functionally connect to separate project plots by main road and the design must to address law requirements.

Alexandria contemporary library and Grand Theatre of Rabat was an inspiration of the Infinity shape concept, in referring to the history of the city of Alexandria, dating back to the year 332 BC, passing through many civilizations until its readiness to receive a new museum about past and a scientific research center in streamlined forms, environmental treatments and advanced structure solutions. The project is divided into a marine area containing the museum, warehouses and another plot for academic area, researchers, library and multi-purpose hall connected in several ways.

DT can be applied to the problems encountered in the construction, operation, and maintenance of a product or building.

I have contributed to updating and enhancing the in-house libraries and office BIM standards through BIG NOTIONs which is an offline domain to assist the Architects, Designers, and constructing architects in BIG's different studios.

Architecturally, the aim has been to combine a highly efficient, contemporary form with elements of traditional Arabic design and hospitality to create a museum that is sustainable, welcoming and culturally of its place. Celebrating Sheikh Zayed’s legacy and love of nature, the museum is set within a landscaped garden, based on a timeline of his life.

Balancing the lightweight steel structures with a more monumental interior experience, pod-shaped galleries are suspended over a dramatic top-lit central lobby, which is dug into the earth to exploit its thermal properties and brings together shops, cafes and informal venues for performances of poetry and dance. Throughout, the treatment of light and shade draws on a tradition of discreet, carefully positioned openings, which capture and direct the region’s intense sunlight to illuminate and animate these sculptural interior spaces.

Northern Border Museum One of the museums of the northern border region of Arar, was established to preserve and document the effects and heritage of the northern border region of Saudi Arabia, followed by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, opened in 2007, and contains the halls of museum exhibitions and the Hall of the Kingdom and natural history and geology, On the geological images of the northern border area and its surroundings and the most important components as well as the most important archaeological sites discovered with a selection of artifacts.

6D BIM part was educational part in the UTW BIM program and it refers to the part of Sustainability. 6D BIM, an acronym for 6D Building Information Modeling and a term widely used in the Construction industry, refers to the intelligent linking of individual 3D CAD components or assemblies with all aspects of project life-cycle management information.

In the practice of architecture, daylighting refers to the use of natural light, be it brilliant sunlight or muted overcast light. In this context I was responsible to develop the daylighting inside the museum as a part of 6D part in BIM process, to maximize the advantage of sun light inside the museum halls by using (BAS ) building automation system principles to create a light tracking system by using firefly package with dynamo that integrated with BIM process.

Overland traveling was the main way of moving for long centuries. However today, flights became the main way to travel and cheaper sometime. The greenhouse gases produced from burning huge amount of fuel, which contribute to global warming. Otherwise, Traveling by trains comes better, safer and greener, I have used travel over 20000 km with trains in more than five countries, I am encouraging to monitor and neutralize our traveling carbon footprint.
