ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS

MAHEC’s Department of Continuing Professional Development conducts regional, statewide, and national programs that are designed to meet the education and training needs of health and human service professionals in the fields of allied health, medicine, mental health, nursing, oral health, and pharmacotherapy. Collaboration and the diversity of the healthcare workforce are emphasized in providing programs and services.

RN Refresher Program

This program consists of two components: 1) a self-paced online theory course of 24 modules, and 2) a regionally based clinical practicum. Upon successful completion of both the didactic and clinical portions of this course, students with an inactive/expired license may apply for renewal/reinstatement of their nursing license through the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

American Heart Association® Certification Courses

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

The goal of this course is to improve the quality of care provided to the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergency. Students will practice skills application in simulated cases, and will also practice both team leader and team member roles.

Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course covers basic life support skills such as the AHA Chain of Survival; one and two man CPR for the adult, child, and infant; response to choking (both conscious and unconscious) in the adult, child, and infant; airway management techniques; and AED use.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

This course uses simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systemic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support (BLS), PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics.
